The Monster Under the Bed (5) : There’s a faint scratching under your bed. Maybe you’ve heard it in the nights leading up to now, or maybe it’s just started, but the scurrying noise is starting to drive you mad. What is it? A bug? A creature? Your imagination? If you try to ignore the noise, it grows louder and louder and louder, until it’s practically all you can hear. You can try to ignore it but sleep is impossible. If you’re hoping to get any rest, you’re going to have to investigate–but you’re not going to like what you find. A flashlight under the bed yields nothingness–a darkness so deep that it seems to swallow up all light. The noise is worse but you can’t see anything. But you’re already in its trap. If you try to reach into the darkness, something grabs your wrist; if you try to walk away, your ankle. Its grip is icy and sharp, like being grabbed by knives, and it pulls. No matter how hard you fight against it, it’s stronger–and it drags you into the darkness. You fall, for what feels like an eternity–and then you jerk awake, violently. Maybe it was just a bad dream. But it doesn’t explain the fading red marks from where it grabbed you. When you look again, it’s just your bed–but you have the distinct feeling that something is missing.

There's a faint scratching sound coming from under his bed. Deme had been hearing them for nights. At first he thought it was just his imagination, and since he had been up late studying, he knew the tiredness he felt was not helping him at all. Then all of a sudden he heard some scurrying noises. "Hello," he said sitting up from his bed. No answer. So he attempted to go back to bed. Since he had a huge exam in the morning that he needed rest for. However, the persistent noises made it impossible for him to fully relax. Every time he closed his eyes, his mind would wander back to the mysterious sounds, keeping him on edge. As a result, Deme spent the night tossing and turning, worried that his lack of sleep would negatively impact his performance on the exam.

The scurrying noise was starting to drive him mad. What was it? He tried to ignore the noise, but it only grew louder and louder, until it practically filled the room. Sleeping is impossible. But deep down, he knew he was going to have to investigate. But part of him wasn't sure he wanted to. Since nothing this annoying and loud could be good. He knew that from all his senshi outtings.

With a loud moan he rolled over in bed and grabbed his flashlight from his nightstand. He quickly shined a flashlight under the bed. The darkness swallowed it up instantly. "That's not normal," he said under his breath as he looked further. It's darkness so deep that it seems to consume all the light he shines on it. He tries to reach out his hand, but his hand encounters nothing but emptiness. As he starts to withdraw his hand he feels a shiver run down your spine, as if he's being watched. From where he had no idea? Since he lived alone in his dorm, and no one else had a key, his heart began to race, and then it hit him. He realized that he'd already been in its trap. "How could I be so stupid?" he said to himself. He should have known better. He was always the cautious one. Except tonight when he did nothing but the option that in horror films gets people to disappear first.

He decided at this point maybe he just needed to take a step back. So he tried to walk away. Something grabbed his wrist. It feels like being grabbed by knives, and its grip is icy and sharp. He frantically pulled and twisted his arm, trying to free himself from the unseen grasp, but the grip only tightened. Panic surged through him as he used his other hand to try and pry off whatever was holding him. Despite his efforts, the invisible force seemed relentless, refusing to let go, and he realized he would need to muster all his strength and focus if he had any hope of escaping its clutches.

Panic rises within Deme. It's strong, and it pulls you into darkness. He stumbles, losing his footing, and is dragged along, struggling to resist. He had no say in him, and knew his tiredness was contributing to him being so weak.

It felt like an eternity before he finally was let go of whatever it was and he started to fall. In that moment, as gravity took hold, time seemed to stretch and slow. Thoughts raced through his mind, a chaotic mix of fear and disbelief. He wondered if this was the end and if anyone would ever know what happened to him. Would he be missed, or would he simply vanish without a trace, another unsolved mystery in the world?

He tumbles down, his body hitting the hard floor, and he felt a surge of adrenaline course through his veins. When he opened his eyes, he expected to find himself in a dream world. But to his surprise, he was just in his bed. He sat up, disoriented, and realized that something was missing. The room was eerily silent, with only the faint hum of the refrigerator in the corner breaking the stillness. Moonlight filtered through the curtains, casting shadows that danced across the walls. His desk chair was overturned, and papers were strewn across the floor as if a struggle had taken place.

He had a distinct feeling that something was missing, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it. The fading red marks on his skin are even more unsettling. He inspected them, but they're just scratches. Still he can't shake the feeling that there's something more sinister lurking beneath his bed. They seemed to pulse with an unsettling energy, as if whispering secrets only his subconscious could understand. Deme couldn't help but wonder if they were a remnant of his nightmare or a warning of something real and dangerous. As he traced their jagged patterns with his fingertips, a sense of foreboding settled over him, making him question whether the boundaries between his dreams and reality were beginning to blur. "I need to sleep," he said out loud. One part of him knew this was a bad idea, but he was not going to fail tomorrow. But before that, he decided to lay back down. He took out his phone and ordered some motion sensor cameras from his phone from Amazon. They said they could rush it and have it here before he sleeps again. Just to be safe, he figured he should make sure next time he caught it all on the phone.

As he lay back down, his mind replayed the horrifying events that he had just experienced. The darkness, the grip, the falling, and the unknown that followed. Was it just a dream? It doesn't explain the fading marks on his skin. He tried to shake it off, but the feeling lingered. In the end, he realized that whatever it was, it was still there, lurking in the shadows. Next time though he would catch it in action and stop it for good.
