The Face in the Moon (4) : The night seems darker than it should be, but it’s been a cloudy day so it’s not too surprising, unless you’re also factoring in the strange sensation that someone is watching you. You won’t see anyone if you look around, but the longer you’re outside, the more intense and unnerving things become. And then–if you look up–you see why. The moon that you know has been replaced with a devilish face, with wide, piercing eyes and a devilish grimace. No matter where you go, it’s watching you–and it even seems like it’s unusually large in the sky. Maybe others around you have noticed the same thing–or maybe it’s just you. Maybe it’s in your mind, but if you stare up at the face for too long, you begin to hear a low growling, or a shrill static. Its eyes are hypnotic and fearsome. Whether it disappears behind the clouds or the horizon, at some point it is gone. The strangeness fades with the moon, but there’s still no real explanation. It doesn’t photograph, and nothing about it can be recorded. You just have to hope it was a one time nightmare.

John hadn’t wanted to stay out long tonight, or well any night during the month of October. While he wasn’t quite as experienced as many other nights, he knew that the month of October was trouble. Whether it was strange creatures attacking, apparitions appearing, and just general creepiness, it could come in any shape or form, which is why he had wanted to get back to his house. At least he felt safer there, even if strange letters or calls or anything else sometimes happened.

He was walking hurriedly down the walking path that led away from the Natural History museum that he worked at, hoping that he wouldn’t run into anything or worse, Agents. But as he continued to walk down the path, the feeling that someone was watching him. As though someone was about to strike and it was causing him to get more and more agitated, until he couldn’t take it and turned around to whoever may have been watching or following him, but he saw no one.

He attempted to look around the area to see if there were any eyes he could spot amongst the foliage, but as he could not see in the mostly dark he found nothing. It was then that he looked up and found himself staring at the moon, which seemed to have a face now?! And it looked scary! Much like the moon in Majora’s Mask, including looking even closer than it normally did.

Was this one of those strange things that happened during October or was this something that the Moon Knights could control? He doubted it considering how new they all were still. Nonetheless, if that thing decided to crash into the planet, there was nothing he could do but accept his fate and hope that it was over with quickly.

And then he heard growling, like the moon was making noise. It didn’t sound like something from far away that was falling to the planet, but it was still creepy to hear. Eventually the moving clouds came to cover the creepy face of what he hoped was not the moon suddenly gaining sentience and deciding that crashing into Earth was a good idea.

But the feeling of being watched faded along with the moon behind the clouds and for a moment Voyager stayed still, just in case he heard anything else that could hint that they were all about to be attacked by the giant rock or if it appeared to be a trick of the eyes and ears.

There was nothing, just the scattered sounds of cars in the distance and whatever bugs were still alive at this time of year, but there was no growling, and nothing else that pointed to the fact that something had happened to the moon. John shook his head making sure that everything was fully back to normal like it should have been. If it happened again he might ask to take some time off for the first time in a while, just to make sure the rest of October passed in peace.
