Rolling first - Square 0

The moment Alcor noticed the cursed dice nestled against the curb she knew she should have walked away. Tried to even, but to no avail. Whatever magic pull that wood and open six-sided trinket had was something that couldn’t be resisted.

Like before, a harsh wind slammed into her, much like when she first arrived on her homeworld but perhaps not as cold. City street lights and neon storefront close signs faded into absolute darkness as the familiar sounds of nightlife quieted into a deafening silence.

When the gust calmed and the world or realm she was whisked away to left her in a state of sensory deprivation the game appeared before her in a line of squares. Alcor knew from her prior experience that leaving was not an option, that an invisible barrier kept her in the designated space until she rolled the dice and the only way to get out was to play, even though she was an unwilling participant.

Fortunately, Eleonora wasn’t here so she could rush through it without having to wait for her twin at the end.

“Might as well get this over with-” Alcor knelt on the ground and rolled the dice in front of her to begin.

Roll 1 - Square 1
You feel eyes upon you, and hear a faint chuckling, like you’re the butt of someone’s joke. It sets a bad mood for the rest of this game; you’re already being judged–and, it looks like a long road ahead.

A one.

“Of course I’d start out with such a low number.” After all, Alcor was the Senshi of Cold not the Senshi of Luck. Why would the dice see her worthy of rolling high so she could get out of here quickly?

The area around her remained dark as before but in the distance, she could hear a faint chuckle. The tone was deep, reminding her of Jaba the Hut’s sick amused chuckle when Luke fell into the pit when he came to save Leia. Much like him, she too had fallen into this trap and whomever was watching sounded delighted by her misfortune.

Inside she seethed at the sound, gritting her teeth in frustration and annoyance she lifted the dice and rolled again, hoping if not praying for something higher than another one.

Roll 2 - Square 3
A strange fog rolls in once you land here. You lose sight of nearly everything, including the game board. If you want to roll, you’re going to have to get close to the ground to even see where you’re supposed to go next. Hopefully nothing sneaks up behind you.

The laughter faded into the distance, muffled by a dense fog that rolled in quickly around her and obscured the path ahead. Alcor didn’t even have a chance to see what number she rolled before her vision was obscured to the point of being unable to see her own hand that was little more than a foot away from her face.

In the silence, she felt a shiver rush up her spine. Not from the coolness of the damp air, but rather from the feeling that someone was here with her or watching still. Even though she could no longer hear the laughter it felt like the game master, was still watching her with an amused grin.

“I’m not here for your entertainment.” Her tone was sharp but the volume sounded muted. Strange, but she didn’t care and rolled the dice once more.

Roll 3 - Square 8
Something slithers across your foot, so fast that you might have thought you imagined it. Except, a few seconds later, it happens again. And then, again. Snakes keep moving across your space. If you move, they see you–and they might bite. Some of them hiss, some are capable of spraying a poisonous liquid that can cause itchiness or burning.

As the dice stopped rolling the fog began to slowly fade but it had been so dense that it felt like it’d take hours for it to fully dissipate.

The feeling of being watched remained but for at least a few minutes Alcor remained still, hand held in front of her until she could at least see the silhouette. However, as she tried to focus on something other than the earlier laughter, a light pressure leaned into the side of her boot. An unexpected sensation that caused her to jump to the side.

She heard a sharp angry hiss, not like a feral cat but something more venomous.

The fog thinned more gradually and soon she received the terrifying confirmation that she was definitely not alone in this square. One… Two… Five… Eight… more snakes than she cared to count slithered across her space. Some ignored her, entangling themselves in a latticework of scales, while others watched her, tongues flicking in her direction.

Her dice was still on the ground, though now a solid two feet away because she had moved when startled and forgot to grab it. But when she moved to slowly reach for it, one of the snakes launched itself in her direction, which garnered the attention of the others who were otherwise content on ignoring her existence and pulled from her a panicked scream.

Terrified of being bit, Alcor lunged for the dice before one of the snakes could slither over it and rolled it before one of them had a chance to bite her or worse…

Roll 4 - Square 12
The smell of smoke is in the air. You can’t see what’s burning, but you can hear distant screams, and–carnival music? It feels like people are running past you, and the air fills with panic and alarm–but there’s nowhere for you to go, and the smoke is so thick. You’d better roll quickly so you can get out of here.

Roll 5 - Square 17
Something howls in the distance. It’s loud and echoes with such ferocity it seems to shake you. On the other side of you–another howl. Closer. This one is loud enough to hurt your ears. The ground trembles with the force of something charging at you. A growl, a snarl. Yellow eyes staring you down. There’s not just one monster out there–there’s several, and they’re all coming for you.

Roll 6 - Square 18
You smell something poison, something noxious. You pass through a haze of strange, green gas as you enter the square, but it fades after a few seconds. You feel cold. You feel empty. You start to decay. Maybe a part of you knows it’s an illusion, but in that split second when your body feels like it might go limp and when you look at your hand and see skin melting. You see bone. You’d best roll the dice so you don’t wind up a skeleton prop for the next player.

Roll 7 - Square 20
The end; once you have arrived here you are free to leave. You will see be basked in the glow of a beautiful, opalescent aura that will take you back home. If you arrived with a guest, you can leave without them or choose to stay until they make it to the end as well. When you arrive back in Destiny City, you may choose to keep the six sided die–if nothing else, it’s pretty! Though, it doesn’t seem to have any magical qualities, that might be for the best.
