Cleeai really didn't get out much, and that was an on purpose choice that he made regularly. He didn't want to be here, he didn't want to be magical, he just wanted to exist. He liked being Camille, liked flying under the radar, liked not getting into trouble because he decided to poke around something that put him in the Negaverse's sights.
But every once in a while, he decided that it would be more fun to just....power up and run around for a while. To be Cleeia again and enjoy the flow of magic under his skin. So he was bouncing around the city, enjoying getting to run from place to place, and when something sparkly caught his eye, he paused, turned to it, and scooped it up.
A die! Neat.
What was not so neat was the gust of wind and the way everything suddenly went dark around him.

Quote: Space 6: You hear a shrill, humming noise; it sounds almost like something is firing past you–and sometimes, you even feel a sharp burst of air, like something has just missed you. Maybe, even, it does get a slice out of you. Sharp, bladelike threads seem to string up around you; you’d best be careful not to get cut on any of them between now and your next dice roll. Really, Cleeia felt like he very much got the idea. Roll the dice, move that many squares, try to get off this ******** ride as quickly as possible. So straightforward! So easy! He could totally do that!
Except that he was already on edge in this bizarre place and he didn't want to be here and--
He hucked the die and was delighted it came up high, because it meant he could get very far forward very quickly. Surely this couldn't be that long, surely he could--
There was a whistling sound, right by his ear, and Cleeia froze.
No. No no no, he did not want to die. Especially not when he saw the thin, shining threads all around him.
Oh, this sucked. This sucked so, so much.

Quote: Space 9: The smell of saltwater fills the air, and you can hear the water lapping against the shore. You hear boards creaking, and bells in the distance. And then, a song. Haunting. Ghostly, and calling you. For a second, you fall in love. And then, water fills your lungs. You’re choking, you can’t breathe. The song is loud and seems to caress you, even as a wet chill gathers in your square. Scaly hands reach for you, you gently caressing, and try to lure you into an endless sleep. Cleeia was pretty sure he liked the ocean. At least, when he arrived on this square after carefully moving through the razor wire and then booking it to the next, he found that he liked it a lot better than the threat of imminent death.
But of course it couldn't just be a nice beach. No.
There was an eerie song, and then--
And then water. So much water. Water, and hands, trying to pull him under--
Cleeia struggled, throwing the die and desperately hoping that he managed to escape in time.

Quote: Space 12: The smell of smoke is in the air. You can’t see what’s burning, but you can hear distant screams, and–carnival music? It feels like people are running past you, and the air fills with panic and alarm–but there’s nowhere for you to go, and the smoke is so thick. You’d better roll quickly so you can get out of here. Cleeia managed to haul himself out of the water--for all that it mattered, in the end. He collapsed onto his hands and knees on the next square, hacking and coughing, and was shocked when nothing came out of his lungs.
But then again, it was all magic, and before he could really recover, he found himself forced forward--the rest of the way to his destination.
Out of the ocean, into the...burning...carnival?
There was smoke, and he could barely breathe again, and--and--
And Cleeia hated this game, this game that was clearly trying to kill him.

Quote: Space 16: As you step into your square, something cracks. At first, you can’t tell what it is, but as your full weight moves onto the square, the ground shifts beneath you. It’s cold, and it’s ice, and a hole falls underneath you, plunging you into frigid waters. There’s enough floating ice that you should still be able to roll the dice to get out of here, but you have to go quickly–you’re soaked, in chilly water, and something just swam by your feet. Cleeia did not get to escape the water.
That was the message he was getting out of this, out of getting out of the burning carnival and stepping onto cracking, fragile ice. This gameboard wanted to kill him, and it specifically wanted him to drown.
As he plunged into the icy water, he felt a burst of hot, angry spite. The Negaverse hadn't managed to get him--no stupid magic game was going to do it! So he swam, upwards, until he broke the surface of the icy water and hurled his die, letting it roll as he swam for the edge.

Quote: Space 19: You’re so close! Almost at the end! But the space you’re standing on shifts and shakes and seems to crumble beneath you. You have to hold on; there’s nowhere to fall but down into the deep abyss. If you manage to hang on for long enough, you find some invisible purchase and can pull yourself back up, but it’s quite the ordeal. Make sure you don’t get cut on falling spaces! The ground restores itself once you roll again. When he hauled himself out of the water, shivering and sputtering, and made his way to his next square, Cleeia felt a moment of triumph.
He'd done it. He could see the end, so close. One more roll and he'd be out.
And then the ground began to shake and crumble. <********!" Cleeia swore, and he booked it forward as fast as he could, but the ground came out form under him faster. He flailed as he started to fall, and just managed--somehow--to catch himself on....something. He wasn't sure what, couldn't see, but his die was still firmly in his hand--
So he rolled it, and the ground lifted him back up, and opened the way to freedom.

Quote: Space 20: The end; once you have arrived here you are free to leave. You will see be basked in the glow of a beautiful, opalescent aura that will take you back home. If you arrived with a guest, you can leave without them or choose to stay until they make it to the end as well. When you arrive back in Destiny City, you may choose to keep the six sided die–if nothing else, it’s pretty! Though, it doesn’t seem to have any magical qualities, that might be for the best. Cleeia stumbled forward onto the final square, heart racing from the panic of the last several minutes.
But he was here. He'd made it. he'd escaped.
There was a soft glow all around him, and he found himself back on the rooftop where he'd initially picked up the die.
"You're a little b*****d, you know that," he told it,a s if this was all its fault.
Then again--sure, ti had gotten him into trouble, but it had also gotten him out. Maybe it was worth hanging onto.
