((Set right after this rp)) Sig had grabbed at the die without thinking. He didn't wonder why it was in the grass, or why such an old wooden die was around. He didn't think it would be anything more than a minor nuisance. He didn't figure it would be an issue. That's where his problems started, he hadn’t thought. He should have. He should have stopped and wondered, especially after his encounter with the horse and its rider. His neck ached and his breathing was still ragged but honestly none of it compared to the s**t he had just been through. The squire had scooped up the normal looking die planning to use it as a projectile against the corrupt senshi he had just been fighting only as soon as he touched it a harsh, strong wind just slammed right into him. It whipped around and before he knew it he was in some dark blank space. No longer in the park he had been fighting the corrupt in. No longer surrounded by pea soup fog. Slowly a path appears in front of him, illuminating the way forward only. It remained a void everywhere else. There was nothing else to see other than the line of squares stretching out in front of him, each distinctly marked with golden symbols on them and in the far distance, a wooden platform. Sig stepped to the edge of his current ‘square’ and tried to look over the edge but his head thunked rather solidly into an invisible barrier. A quick check proved that the other three sides were as equally impenetrable, even the one that connected to the pathway. He was trapped. The squire absently fiddled with the die that was still in his hand, trying to contemplate his next move. He really couldn’t see anything but the pathway. Nor could he sense anything. He was well and truly in a void. With a sigh he examined the little game piece in his hand, hoping it would give him some clue. When Sig had grabbed it off of the ground he had just gotten a quick impression of wood and a glint of something shiny but here, in this void, he could see that the ‘simple’ die was anything but. Each side of the old wooden die had a gilded number, one through six, carved into it and the whole thing seems to be made of old, stained wood with fossilized opal. It was rather pretty really. Pretty and oddly familiar. It took Sig a moment to realize that the platform at the end of the path looked eerily like the die that was in his hand. A dark wood that seemed to have the same fossilized opal inlay as the die, and the pretty golden symbols from the path along the rim. That made it pretty clear that they were all connected. How, he didn’t know, but that didn’t really matter right now. He was more concerned about how to get out of there.

((Rolled: 5)) ((Space 5: A dog barks, fierce and frightening. You can hear its growl and the hackles stand up on the back of your neck. You can practically feel spittle on you. It’s close. And it’s big. And it’s angry. If this beastly dog could reach you, no doubt it would try to tear you to shreds.))
Sig was contemplating his next move when he absently tossed the die at the ‘wall’ that divided him from the rest of the pathway. The die clattered about, landing on a five, and when he went to pick it up he realized that what ever was keeping him from the path was no longer there. Contemplating the implications the squire moved on until he reached the next wall, five spaces from where he started. By walking right into the wall.
He didn’t really get a chance to think about how he stubbed his foot on the barrier because a large series of barks had him looking around for the dog that sounded like he was right on his back. Sig could practically feel the animal’s breath and drool filled barks. The squire dropped the die as he spun to try to spot the dog, stumbling backwards when the barrier to the next square was suddenly gone.

((Rolled: 1)) ((Space 6: You hear a shrill, humming noise; it sounds almost like something is firing past you–and sometimes, you even feel a sharp burst of air, like something has just missed you. Maybe, even, it does get a slice out of you. Sharp, bladelike threads seem to string up around you; you’d best be careful not to get cut on any of them between now and your next dice roll.))
Sig took that as a good sign and scrambled to the next square only to come up against the barrier again. This time he had a decent idea of what was going on since he had spotted the one pip on the die he had dropped. He was stuck in some kind of demented Jumanji type game. Except instead of the stuff happening in the ‘real world’, he was on the gameboard. Literally.
The young man bent down to pick up the game token when a shrill, humming noise had him freeze in place. It was like something flew past him. This sound was quickly repeated, one after another. Someone, or something, was firing something at him. It wasn’t until a sharp, stinging sensation against his arm made him move quickly. Especially since he was starting to see the small threads that were rapidly filling his current square. The same threads that had cut his arm. The knight tossed the die, silently praying it rolled high so he could get out of there faster.
Six.

((Rolled: 6)) ((Space 12: The smell of smoke is in the air. You can’t see what’s burning, but you can hear distant screams, and–carnival music? It feels like people are running past you, and the air fills with panic and alarm–but there’s nowhere for you to go, and the smoke is so thick. You’d better roll quickly so you can get out of here.))
He snagged the die and went running, skidding to a stop on the sixth square from his last one, more than happy not to run into the barrier that would prevent him from going any further. Sig barely had a chance to check the damage from his last square, dozens of little cuts all over that he could feel, before the smell of smoke had him rolling the die once more. He was not going to stick around to see what was on fire, especially since smoke was rapidly thickening.

((Rolled: 3)) ((Space 15: Bats. Maybe you missed them attacking earlier, but they’re back again, and angrier than ever. Instead of just screeching or scratching, they’re swooping down and biting now–and the effects are instantaneous. The little teeth are sharp and painful, but once bitten you might feel agitated and prone to violence, and you might feel perpetually cold and hungry with no relief in sight. The effects might last when you leave the square–or they might linger for a few hours or days after you get out of here.))
Sig was still coughing and practically hacking up a lung by the time he had staggered the three squares that the die had rolled. He silently wished it had gotten a higher roll but beggars couldn’t be choosers so he would take what he could get. The squire gratefully took a deep breath, at least this square wasn’t full of smoke. That gratitude quickly went down the drain when he started to get swarmed by bats. Screeching and swooping bats. Bats that seemed to have a vendetta against him.
He had already been trapped in a string twister, cut six ways to Sunday, add in the bats and he was soon bleeding. Bleeding and cold. Getting more and more agitated as the swarm continued, along with hunger. He wished he had eaten before he had left for the store. With a growl Sig swung at the bats even as he tossed the die to escape this particular square.

((Rolled: 2)) ((Space 17: Something howls in the distance. It’s loud and echoes with such ferocity it seems to shake you. On the other side of you–another howl. Closer. This one is loud enough to hurt your ears. The ground trembles with the force of something charging at you. A growl, a snarl. Yellow eyes staring you down. There’s not just one monster out there–there’s several, and they’re all coming for you.))
A two…. The damn thing only rolled a two.
At least the bats were left behind only to be replaced by more howls. But rather than dogs, this time it was definitely more monstrous. The temptation to fight was strong but so was the hunger. Rather than fight, as he wanted to, he cursed out the creatures, glaring right back at the yellow eyes staring at him, and rolled the die. He was so close to the end he could almost feel it… if only the irritation wasn’t still stuck in the forefront of his mind.

((Rolled: 2x2=4)) ((Space 20:The end; once you have arrived here you are free to leave. You will see be basked in the glow of a beautiful, opalescent aura that will take you back home. If you arrived with a guest, you can leave without them or choose to stay until they make it to the end as well. When you arrive back in Destiny City, you may choose to keep the six sided die–if nothing else, it’s pretty! Though, it doesn’t seem to have any magical qualities, that might be for the best.)) After one final roll he reached the platform he had been aiming for the entire time. Sig didn’t get very long to breath before he was covered in a glowing, almost opalescent, light. Once he could see clearly again, that light left spots in his vision for quite some time, the squire realized he was back in the city. A quick look around proved that the fog he had been in prior to his gameboard shenanigans was gone, as was the corrupt senshi he had been fighting. Sig took that opportunity to book it. He quickly got out of there, tossing the die he still had in his hand in the nearest trash can since he was unwilling to keep such a dangerous little object. He just hoped he wasn’t too late to make it to the store before it closed for the night. FIN
