Quote: Destiny City is a large place, with a large population. It’s not uncommon to find a lost item here or there. Maybe a keychain, an earring, a book. But, a six sided die? That’s different. While traveling through Destiny City, you find a strange little object. It looks like old, stained wood, but something shiny in it catches your eye. How could you resist picking it up?
Nymphe really wasn’t sure what, exactly had happened. One moment she had been patrolling, the next she was standing on an enormous board that looked like Candyland if Candyland was fueled by meth and hatred. A pretty little die rested near her feet and she knelt to pick it up.
Certainly, she was alarmed by whatever was going on. But she had also grown up on the grimmest of fairy tales and instinctively, she knew what had to be done if she wanted to go back home. It was time to cast the dice.

Quote: Space 5: A dog barks, fierce and frightening. You can hear its growl and the hackles stand up on the back of your neck. You can practically feel spittle on you. It’s close. And it’s big. And it’s angry. If this beastly dog could reach you, no doubt it would try to tear you to shreds.
Her first roll had given her a five. Given that the die was a 6 sider, Nymphe chose to take the relatively high first roll as a good omen. She wasn’t sure how long the game was, but if she could keep rolling this well, surely she’d be back home soon?
Taking a moment to look around, she was startled by the furious barking on an angry dog. And it was a big angry dog, judging by how the barks echoed around her. Deciding that she really didn’t want to meet this dog, she shoo the die in her hand and let it drop to the ground. As it rolled and bounced, she thought, for a moment, that she could feel the dog’s breath on the back on her neck. Too close.
Seeing the die had settled, she simply grabbed it up and ran.

Quote: Space 6: You hear a shrill, humming noise; it sounds almost like something is firing past you–and sometimes, you even feel a sharp burst of air, like something has just missed you. Maybe, even, it does get a slice out of you. Sharp, bladelike threads seem to string up around you; you’d best be careful not to get cut on any of them between now and your next dice roll.
Well, she hadn’t gotten very far. Pity, that, but progress was progress. Or that was what she would keep telling herself until she could win. But, since the dog could not be heard, she had to assume that it was no longer in play for her.
“Really,” she muttered to herself, “I think the elves might be kinder.”
Before she could pursue that thought, a strange humming noise that seemed to cut the very air broke the silence and Nymphe felt something slice past her cheek. Rather than wait to see what it was, she tossed the die.
She’d take her chances with whatever waited further on.

Quote: Space 11: You hear a frantic flapping above you, but that’s all the warning you get before a hoard of bats descend. They scratch and slap and screech, but you avoid getting bitten. For now. You’ve invaded their space and they seem keen to defend it. You can try to fight them, but the only way to escape them is to roll again.
Oh! Her roll was good again! Excellent. The glimpses and impressions she’d gotten of the squares she’d passed through had made her more than happy to not have to deal with them. Of course, that didn’t mean that this square might not be worse, but she was trying to think positively.
The sudden, frenzied flapping around her head, caused her to accidentally toss the die as she fling her arms over her head. Bats? Bats! Very angry and territorial bats and not at all the cute sky puppies that could be found on the YouTubes.
“Yes, yes, I am moving! I don’t want me to be here either!”

Quote: Space 14: The ground is sticky. You land on this and immediately dip, as though you’ve stepped on a trampoline. Close inspection reveals that you are standing on an intricately woven web–and your shoes are stuck. And something is skittering just on the horizon.
Fleeing from the bats, Nymphe stumbled along, doing her best to keep her head covered. Small scratches laced up her arms from the creatures and for a moment, she wondered about rabies.
Then, her foot go stuck mid-stride and she glanced down and saw that she was stuck to something. Yanking her leg up freed her foot, but set the ground to swaying. And her other foot was stuck now.
This simply would not do.
Taking a moment, she studied the ground and felt her face go pale as realization struck. Oh. On no. No, she did not want to linger here! Frantically throwing the die, she trusted to the magic to get her to the next challenge.
She did not want to become a spider’s dinner!

Quote: Space 15: Bats. Maybe you missed them attacking earlier, but they’re back again, and angrier than ever. Instead of just screeching or scratching, they’re swooping down and biting now–and the effects are instantaneous. The little teeth are sharp and painful, but once bitten you might feel agitated and prone to violence, and you might feel perpetually cold and hungry with no relief in sight. The effects might last when you leave the square–or they might linger for a few hours or days after you get out of here.
The relief Nymphe felt at escaping the spider’s web was short lived as angry little bats swarmed her again and bit her this time. Screeching in fear and her own anger, Nymphe swatted at the little beasts, suddenly wanting to hurt them as much as they were hurting her. And she was so cold all of the sudden too!
And hungry!
Feelings abounded and left her confused which made her angrier. For a moment, she almost forgot about the game, so intent was she on knocking bats out of the sky. However, Fate seemed to intervene and she heard the soft clicking of the die hitting the ground as it fell from her clenched hand.

Quote: Space 19: You’re so close! Almost at the end! But the space you’re standing on shifts and shakes and seems to crumble beneath you. You have to hold on; there’s nowhere to fall but down into the deep abyss. If you manage to hang on for long enough, you find some invisible purchase and can pull yourself back up, but it’s quite the ordeal. Make sure you don’t get cut on falling spaces! The ground restores itself once you roll again.
Still screaming furiously at the bats, Nymphe almost felt as if she was being shoved through the next series of squares. As she moved, her anger began to lessen and she felt warm again. How odd…
When she stopped, she could see a soft glow just ahead that gave her hope. She was so close to the end of the board! This was very good news indeed!
Relief was short lived once again. The very ground seemed to take offense to her presence and Nymphe felt herself falling into darkness. Reaching out, she managed to seize onto an outcropping and hold on. All around her the ground crumbled and collapsed.
But she knew how this game worked now. She was not going to let it beat her.
Nymphe rolled the die once more.

Quote: Space 20: The end; once you have arrived here you are free to leave. You will see be basked in the glow of a beautiful, opalescent aura that will take you back home. If you arrived with a guest, you can leave without them or choose to stay until they make it to the end as well. When you arrive back in Destiny City, you may choose to keep the six sided die–if nothing else, it’s pretty! Though, it doesn’t seem to have any magical qualities, that might be for the best.
As she had hoped, rolling the die moved her to the next square in the game. And this one was, in a word, beautiful.
And not just because it meant she had won.
No, it was bathed in lovely, opalescent light and golden shimmer. It made her think of the stupid little die that had caused this mess. But, since she hadn;t been eaten by bats or spiders or big dogs, she was willing to forgive.
Nymphe closed her eyes and stepped into the light, reappearing on Main Street as if she’d never left.
