There was a marked hesitation in her steps this night. Remembering her last outing to gather energy and what had occurred afterwards had Irenaea on edge. Having posted on one of her message boards about this strange encounter Irenaea was surprised at the amount of chatter her topic had generated. The general consensus was that whatever she had gone through, it wasn't the only time. There was also an unspoken agreement of the first year that these mysterious dice started showing up.
What was new to the senshi though was the fact that some people didn't even have to touch the die like she had the first time. Just merely locking one's gaze upon the die itself was enough to trigger the disappearances to occur.
"Just great," she mumbled to herself, "I don't think anyone will win in this situation. If all you have to do is look at the damn thing and it can whisk you away...we're all doomed."
Even as she kept her gaze shrouded with her veil she had to wonder if those with no sight were safe. It could be an interesting expirement to try. Round up some innocent vision-impaired bystander to see what would happen...
The thought brought a small smile to her face before she groaned. The die wasn't sitting on the ground this time. Her gaze had swept past it sitting on the retainer wall surface before the glow brought her eyes back to it.
"s**t, here we go again..."
Upon rousing herself to consciousness Irenaea stared at the die that was now sitting innocently in her left hand. The desire to simply mangle it beyond recognition was strong but the widow spider senshi resisted. If the die were destroyed, how would she leave this place?

Quote: Space 3: A strange fog rolls in once you land here. You lose sight of nearly everything, including the game board. If you want to roll, you’re going to have to get close to the ground to even see where you’re supposed to go next. Hopefully nothing sneaks up behind you. Stepping off of the platform Irenaea began to wonder just what sort of adventure she was in for this time. Already as she walked through the first square without being stopped did it make her realize that this round would indeed be different. As soon as the walls slammed up into place did the senshi grimace. The moisture in the air and the sense of being hemmed in began to grow and it was with no surprise that all of a sudden the visibility dropped away.
Peeling back her veil Irenaea squinted in an attempt to pierce the layers of fog that had rolled in at such an alarming rate. But fog wasn't exactly harmful. The only damage that the fog could really inflict on her was to limit the ability of clear sight. The die was somewhere on the ground in front of her and with a resigned noise did she lower herself to a crouch in order to sweep her fingers gently across the surface in an effort to locate the object that would grant her passage out of this natural phenomena. Water droplets condensed onto her exposed face and Irenaea felt the weight of the atmosphere pressing down before her fingers found what it was she was searching for. Gripping the die, she let it fall back to the ground in a controlled drop before straightening.
Foggy square - not so bad ... but even as she moved out of the square and back onto the pathway was she alert to what obstacle she'd face next.

Quote: Space 7: Something is twitching and flapping above you, and while you might be minding your own business, something is a little too invested in what you’re doing. You can’t see them, but you suddenly hear shrill, high pierced noises that are disorienting and confusing. They can bring about dizziness and pain and can cause vertigo if you’re stuck in them for too long. The sound of something above her shuffling around above her head gave Irenaea pause as she entered into the next square. It almost sounded like thousands of bodies were pressed close together. There didn't seem to be any sense of malice to the movements but knowing what she knew of this place already the dark mirror senshi made and effort to tread lightly in order to get towards the next section of wall that would drop as soon as she rolled her die.
The auditory assault that came suddenly came out of nowhere had Irenaea clapping her hands over her ears. The noises almost sounded familiar but they were having the unfamiliar effect of causing her physical discomfort. The shrill noises were actually causing debilitating pain. Falling to one knee the senshi had to uncover her ears in order to prevent herself from face-planting into the ground. It seemed like rolling the die was the only possible solution and with an expression that spoke of just how badly this square was affecting her, Irenaea threw the die at the ground and began to crawl towards the wall that suddenly disappeared. Standing would prove to be a liability and so she continued to scoot forward on her hands and knees towards the next square and whatever horror awaited her.

Quote: Space 11: You hear a frantic flapping above you, but that’s all the warning you get before a hoard of bats descend. They scratch and slap and screech, but you avoid getting bitten. For now. You’ve invaded their space and they seem keen to defend it. You can try to fight them, but the only way to escape them is to roll again. It was the familiar sound of flapping wings that alerted Irenaea to the fact that she knew what this square contained. Without much preamble the senshi dropped to the ground to make herself less of a target to the bats that were going to appear at any second.
They did not disappoint.
Feeling the creatures all around her; trying to bite through her fuku once more, being assailed by leather wings slapping at her, Irenaea had to focus. She didn't want to hurt the critters but they were rather annoying. Pulling one away that was determined to get at her face she flung it away from her before finding her die and rolling it. She didn't have time to play with the bats.

Quote: Space 14: The ground is sticky. You land on this and immediately dip, as though you’ve stepped on a trampoline. Close inspection reveals that you are standing on an intricately woven web–and your shoes are stuck. And something is skittering just on the horizon. The dipping of the ground even as Irenaea rose to her feet was a rather new sensation. Her eyes began to take in the new terrain even as she fought the sudden urge to topple forward. 'What the heck,' was the questioned thought that flickered through her mind. It was soon followed by, 'why can't I move?'
Peering down at the ground that dipped so precipitously underneath her facts began to add up in her mind. Was it the affinity of her sphere that provided the final piece of insight as to what she'd walked so willingly into? Pulling up the hem of her dress did Irenaea wince at the sight of webbing that prevented her covered feet from lifting free of the ground. Her expression turned pensive for a moment before the feeling of something arriving just on the edge of the web gave the senshi of widow spiders something else to worry about. It seemed that the web's owner was coming to investigate what had been ensnared.
Two could play at this game though. Closing her eyes and simply feeling the vibrations as the spider began its approach onto the spun creation that kept her bound Irenaea breathed deeply before touching her brooch. 'Magic, don't let me down. It's time to pit my spider against this gameboard's spider.' Even as she opened her eyes once more to take in the sight of her 'enemy' did Irenaea wish she didn't have to fight off a giant spider.
In a rather firm voice Irenaea spoke the phrase that would activate her magic, "Irenaea's Lonely Widow."
The sight of the spider materializing from her brooch filled Irenaea with confidence that her own spider could deliver its debilitating dose of venom on the other creature. Even as it scurried forward did Irenaea struggle just a little to see if the webbing would lose its hold on her as her attack struck the spider. Nothing seemed to change in terms of the resistance keeping her in place but at least the spider seemed to have been affected by her magic. Her hand came up and she fought the urge to yank her foot free, less the webbing ensnare bare flesh next. Throwing the die seemed to be her only option and with a word of apology towards the afflicted arachnid did Irenaea feel the web's hold loosen as the die rolled onto it's side, promising her a way out of this mess.

Quote: Space 17: Something howls in the distance. It’s loud and echoes with such ferocity it seems to shake you. On the other side of you–another howl. Closer. This one is loud enough to hurt your ears. The ground trembles with the force of something charging at you. A growl, a snarl. Yellow eyes staring you down. There’s not just one monster out there–there’s several, and they’re all coming for you. Irenaea sighed as she landed in her new square. Her gaze tracked back to where she'd just come from. There had been no malice in her decision to attack the spider but it was fair to say that she might have been in a rougher spot if she had done nothing. She wasn't meant to be prey.
"Just finish this round and get back home, that's all that matters."
When she got home there was a strong suspicion that she'd not go back out unless it was for an absolute emergency, at least until the madness of the season passed on by.
Taking a moment to simply catch her breath, Irenaea sat on the ground before jumping back up as a lonely howl echoed all around her. What seemed like a minute later, a much closer howling began except for it did not originate in the same place as the first. More howls, interspersed with what she could only classify as menacing yips began to draw nearer to her position. Obviously her rest period was over. Even as she pushed herself back to her feet could she feel the earth tremble, like it would if one stood too close to a train track as the train was passing. This was not good. Snarls erupted around her as she made the executive decision to run towards what promised to be the way out of this square. A brief glimpse behind had Irenaea double her pace as the vision of several pairs of yellow eyes, belonging to a bipedal species became much much clearer. Nope. Not going there. Werewolves weren't real. But here, they seemed all too real.
Throwing the die at the glass wall, Irenaea dived on top of the object as it stopped rolling, and continued to roll even as the wall slammed up behind her keeping the canid creatures confined to their own little cell. Dusting off her fuku the young woman rose to her feet and grimaced at all the little aches and pains she was accumulating this round. Just a little bit further and she'd be home free.

Quote: Space 19: (1x2=2) You’re so close! Almost at the end! But the space you’re standing on shifts and shakes and seems to crumble beneath you. You have to hold on; there’s nowhere to fall but down into the deep abyss. If you manage to hang on for long enough, you find some invisible purchase and can pull yourself back up, but it’s quite the ordeal. Make sure you don’t get cut on falling spaces! The ground restores itself once you roll again. The barest perception of shifting earth was the only warning Irenaea had. The ground had seemed stable enough as the now familiar glass walls snapped up both in front of her and behind but only seconds later was the illusion of safety stripped away. The die was almost lost then as she yelped in a mixture of surprise and agony as her right arm snagged on what seemed to be a ledge. Gripping that ledge with all of her strength she finally managed to get situated so there was no more risk of falling down. Her left fist had closed around the die and she quickly made the decision to place it between her teeth for safe keeping. If she were to get out of this mess, she would need both hands free.
Eyeing the distance that she needed to ascend in order to make it to safety the young woman groaned. Her right arm felt as if were on fire and the prospect of having to use both arms to get out of her predicament was definitely going to make things worse. Finding a place to hold onto with her left hand did Irenaea begin the slowest ascent in her life. There was no set path to follow. Every now and then she had to give up ground that she had made in order to avoid potential disaster. It felt like hours had passed when she finally scrambled onto what she hoped was solid ground before she spit the die out. Her strength had been depleted and it was all she could do to pull herself across the final segment onto the end platform.

Quote: Space 20: The end; once you have arrived here you are free to leave. You will see be basked in the glow of a beautiful, opalescent aura that will take you back home. If you arrived with a guest, you can leave without them or choose to stay until they make it to the end as well. When you arrive back in Destiny City, you may choose to keep the six sided die–if nothing else, it’s pretty! Though, it doesn’t seem to have any magical qualities, that might be for the best. The ordeal was done. Irenaea winced even as the glow surrounded her in order to bring her back to Destiny City. Her whole body ached. Scurrying away from the cursed die Irenaea glared at it before simply powering down and walking away from the object. 'Never again, she thought fiercely.
