'I think I'll call it a night,' was the general thought going through Irenaea's mind as she tucked away her mirror shard. The wraith contained within had finally turned opaque enough which meant that it had signalled that it had gorged itself on the energy of the regular townsfolk that it had encountered, unseen. Her perfect idea would to have powered down then and start the trek home but there was just something so innocuous about being able to stroll around Destiny City as her powered self without garnering too much attention. Oh, there were the snide comments here and there that she just ignored. At least her powered outfit was less flashy than others that she had encountered before.

Turning onto a quiet side street Irenaea sighed before almost deciding to return to her civilian self before she noticed the small object on the ground that seemed out of place. Reaching down to idly poke at the die that was just there, Irenaea gave the smallest of shrugs before picking up the die between thumb and forefinger before the darkness seemed to swallow her whole.

When she finally roused herself to consciousness the senshi of widow spiders looked around confused. This as sure wasn't mirrorspace. But where was she then?

The illuminated tiles that stretched out before her had her pausing to examine the die more closely. It's coloration seemed to match and she sighed, "great. Just great. I go had have the most easiest of times gathering energy and now something like this happens..."

Throwing the die to the floor Irenaea waited to see what would transpire.

Space 1:
You feel eyes upon you, and hear a faint chuckling, like you’re the butt of someone’s joke. It sets a bad mood for the rest of this game; you’re already being judged–and, it looks like a long road ahead.

It was the sensation of being watched that irked Irenaea the most as she moved onto the square that was indicated by her roll. Reaching down to scoop the die back into her palm the senshi of widow spiders swore that from somewhere in the distance a low, chuckling sound of laughter was following her. The sound did nothing to instil confidence in her mind that whatever she was doing was perhaps the right thing. But after spending a moment or two simply realizing that without rolling her die that she could not progress forward Irenaea simply let the die fall to the ground.

"Whomever you are, grow up. Mocking another's predicament will simply come back and bite you, karma and all that."

Even as she spoke into the empty air did the sense of being watched once more flood over Irenaea and she hastily looked back before picking up her die and moving onwards. The less time that she spent on this illuminated pathway, the better.

Already though she was planning on at least trying to memorize what was going on. The more information that got out about this place, the better. What Irenaea needed to find out though was whether the mechanisms behind how the dice seemed to operate.

Space 4:
Something smells rotten. You can’t see very far into the darkness, but if you squint closely a dark form seems to be dragging itself along the ground. Sometimes you see a pale hand almost close enough to grab you–or, maybe something does grab you. It’s cold, and frightening, and it’s trying to drag you out of bounds.

The veil, Irenaea came to realize, did not protect one's sense of smell from being assailed by noxious odors. Her hand immediately shot up to her nose in an effort to stop herself from further damaging her ability to smell even as she felt and tasted bile rise in her throat. The urge to gag was strong and it took an extreme effort to keep from simply disgorging her most recent meal onto the square in which she now found herself. The young woman kept a tight grip over her nostrils. Sure it inhibited her ability to breath but why would a person want to?

Remembering a technique from sometime in her past Irenaea opened her mouth and began to take shallow breaths in an effort to at least tamp down on the scent that permeated the entire square. Her gaze went to the ground in an instant to locate her die before she stopped dead in her tracks. No, no, no. This was not happening. But even as she looked on did the hand continue to move into her line of sight. The rest of the limb was shrouded by the darkness that was ever present in the area but Irenaea's gaze remained locked on the movement in front of her. Even as yet another limb reached out and snagged her right ankle did the dark mirror senshi forget the all out assault on her olfactory organ and she inhaled sharply before once more feeling the urge to gag wash over her.

'Oh, great move you fool.'

The grip on her ankle was strong but even as the limb retreated, and tried to pull her off to somewhere out of bounds did Irenaea kick out sharply with her left foot. The grip disappeared even as the motion of her kick sent pieces of the hand that had been tugging on her flying every which way.

"Oh hell no. I'm outta here."

The die flew from her hand once more even as she reached snagged it back as she ran into the next square.

Space 5:
A dog barks, fierce and frightening. You can hear its growl and the hackles stand up on the back of your neck. You can practically feel spittle on you. It’s close. And it’s big. And it’s angry. If this beastly dog could reach you, no doubt it would try to tear you to shreds.

The walls that separated the space that she was in and those that lay beyond dropped suddenly and Irenaea darted as fast as she could along the pathway that looked more and more like some twisted version of well, any gameboard game, really. The momentum that she carried in moving forward suddenly stopped as she slammed into an invisible wall that had cropped up.

"I really, really, really hate this," she muttered even as she picked the die up and stared at it, "are you incapable of landing on anything but 1s?"

Even though it felt silly to be talking to something that would not answer her back Irenaea groaned as she spun around. This place was an absolute nightmare. The sound, low at first, began to register with the young woman. There was ... a dog in here? The snarling came next and Irenaea picked up the hem of her fuku before backing away towards the place she knew the walls were. The sight of something hulking in the shadows drew nearer and Irenaea's hand released the die and the walls dropped down, allowing her the chance to back up into the next square, leaving whatever creature she'd been trapped with, behind.

Space 6:
You hear a shrill, humming noise; it sounds almost like something is firing past you–and sometimes, you even feel a sharp burst of air, like something has just missed you. Maybe, even, it does get a slice out of you. Sharp, bladelike threads seem to string up around you; you’d best be careful not to get cut on any of them between now and your next dice roll.

There was no warning: the minute that Irenaea stepped into the newest square on the pathway that she was currently traversing did she pick up what sounded to be like a shrill hum. Her eyes rolled before she reached down to quest for the die that she had been rolling before clapping her right hand over her right ear. If there was one thing that got on her nerves, it was the simple fact that any type of humming annoyed her to the extreme. It was almost as bad as people who couldn't whistle worth a damn. The only good came from the fact that the humming was short lived.

The veil that covered her face fluttered wildly then, giving Irenaea pause before she felt the blast of air. Just what was this square meant to represent. The first three that she had landed in were fairly obvious, but this square was baffling. Humming, sharp blasts of air ... really, was this meant to cower her into some sort of quivering ball of hysterics? If so, it wasn't working.

The next step taken had the dark mirror senshi wincing as something she couldn't see managed to cut into the exposed skin of her wrist and Irenaea drew back her hand back into her fuku before squinting carefully at her environment. There didn't seem to be anything that she could see. Her hand stung as if she'd been nicked by a fairly sharp blade, but the cut itself felt shallow. That was the only relief she could find in this situation.

"And now for the moment of absolutely useless pop culture references ... am I dealing with a Yura of the Hair type scenario here? Well, I know how she was defeated before... I don't think that would work here unfortunately so I guess I'll just do this," and with a careful extension of her hand Irenaea dropped the die to the ground in order to move out of her current square.... leaving whatever it was that she had encountered behind.

Space 11:
You hear a frantic flapping above you, but that’s all the warning you get before a hoard of bats descend. They scratch and slap and screech, but you avoid getting bitten. For now. You’ve invaded their space and they seem keen to defend it. You can try to fight them, but the only way to escape them is to roll again.

This last roll had been a rather good one in terms of how many spaces she had been allowed to move forward. Irenaea found herself quickly traversing multiple tiles before she felt resistance in the form of walls springing back up. Well, it had been good while it lasted. There was no real indication at first just what horrors this square had in store for her until she picked up the sound of movement above her. The mass of darkness, courtesy of hundreds of leather wings, blocked out the ambient light that she'd been using to navigate ... and then they were on her.

Bats. Irenaea wasn't exactly concerned with the fact that the bats were slapping at her with their wings or even emitting the loud screeches that just proved they were trying to locate around their surroundings. No, what bothered the young woman the most were the tiny little scratches that these creatures were trying to inflict on her, mostly to no avail though. That was probably the one good aspect her her fuku ... it covered everything pretty well. Her voice was even as she tried to gently ease the creatures far enough away that she could locate the die once more but it wasn't as easy as it looked. But at least an attempt was made ... with a calm, measured, voice Irenaea kept a low constant stream of meaningless chatter up towards the bats before her fingers brushed against the object she was searching for. Pulling one bat free where it had become tangled did Irenaea allow the creature its freedom before she allowed the die to roll off of her palm and onto the ground. Her gaze was steady as she exited the square in order to leave the bats behind and steel herself for whatever might come next.

Space 20: (6x2=12)
The end; once you have arrived here you are free to leave. You will see be basked in the glow of a beautiful, opalescent aura that will take you back home. If you arrived with a guest, you can leave without them or choose to stay until they make it to the end as well. When you arrive back in Destiny City, you may choose to keep the six sided die–if nothing else, it’s pretty! Though, it doesn’t seem to have any magical qualities, that might be for the best.

The walls fell away. Irenaea took one last look at the bat that tried to follow before it was swallowed up by the square she had just left. The walls that prevented her from making any such thoughts of backtracking also made it impossible for the creatures of any previous square unable to follow her forward. It was with a sigh of relief that the last square was behind her. The die's side that was facing upwards spoke of the best roll that she could have made but even as she moved forward with a confidence that was merely an act was she dreading the need to be detained once more.

At the end of her sixth square though Irenaea was confused. The way forward had not been impeded at all and it didn't take her long to suddenly rush over the remaining squares. There was absolutely no way that she would turn away that old familiar saying of gift horses and all that.

Feeling solid ground below her feet Irenaea felt her legs tremble before she straightened up. No matter what she had just gone through there was no way that she would show any weakness. The die lay in the dirt before her and Irenaea had the distinct urge that she wanted to kick the small object away into the unknown. But was it needed to get her back to Destiny City? Growling more in frustration the young woman leaned over to picking up the die before she felt the world shift. Moments later the dark mirror senshi saw the all too familiar landscape of Destiny City appear before her. Breathing out a sigh of relief Irenaea looked at the die in her hand before drawing back her arm and launching the thing into the dark of the night.

"No more picking up strange dice."

Irenaea checked her pace for a moment before sighing. Was this experience something that others would have posted about in her forums? There had been talk before of the weird s**t that happened around Destiny City, and even last year had Irenaea experienced some of it with the spiders and the knight Belmont ... but this wayward dimensional shift - this had been a new, and not so pleasant, experience.

"Okay. Plan of attack is to simply go home."
