Web of Secrets (7) : Spiders have settled in all across town, and while this isn’t normally any great cause for concern, inky black spiders are oddly common. The spiders themselves are not very threatening–small, nonpoisonous, and cowardly. The interesting thing about them is their black webbing–and the strange designs they make. Webs appear overnight, often seeming to come out of nowhere. They are curiously designed, almost as if made to deliberately spell out something. People all over town have mentioned finding webs that spell out a single word, or part of a sentence. Maybe it’s just imagination, but as the days go on, the words seem to be clearer–and the messages are often uncomfortable or distressing. There’s no evidence that the spiders can spell or are trying to send messages, but really–is it that hard to believe? Once a spider has left a message, it disappears. They are masterful escape artists and cannot be caught. There’s no telling what the spiders want you to know, but maybe if you’re lucky one will leave you a message you understand. The Captain shuddered at the sight of them–a collection of the strange, inky black spiders were spinning their webs between a few trees. He’d been about to perch in one of them to ride out the rest of his night, maybe harass any incoming senshi or knights, when he noticed them. Thankfully he hadn’t gotten close enough, so he didn’t get caught in anything and didn’t wind up with any spiders on his person.
Still.
He watched the black web being spun for a few minutes, and before he knew it the spiders themselves were gone and he was left with a few choice words.
LOSS. LACK. LAZY.
Staurolite quirked a brow, refusing to let the stupid bugs get to him despite the words seemingly being pointed directly at him. These were all things he struggled with or worried about, after all, and it was…strange. He was lost in thought, so he missed the incoming Chaos aura, and only when it was basically on him did he gesture for whoever it was to come over.
“What do you think?” he asked, not bothering to look at whoever it was. He wasn’t being rude, he was just very focused.
And worried, but he wasn’t about to admit that.

Euchorite had heard about the spiders. They were appearing around the town. It wasn’t really concerning. They seemed to be normal spiders. She was out and about looking for something to get into. She had sensed something and decided to follow it. She found another agent. A captain. She took in the sight of the black webs left behind by the strange spiders. She noted the tension in the captain's demeanor and the way he seemed lost in thought. Approaching the Captain with silent steps, Euchorite observed him for a moment before responding to his question. She turned her attention back to the web. “I think Destiny City is a beacon for weird and strange occurrences,” she finally replied, her voice soft but firm.” As for the words left behind by the spiders she read them off, “Loss. Lack. Lazy. Interesting choice of words. Maybe they were trying to tell us something.” ((152))

Staurolite glanced sideward at his new company, considering her words for a long moment before sighing and shrugging.
“Maybe,” he said, looking back at the words in the webbing and wondering about the possibilities. Spiders that spin black webs were odd enough, never mind having the ability to spell words correctly and for those words to be somehow targeted at the person who came upon them.
Or maybe they weren’t targeted and he was just overthinking something that was nothing more than a bit of bad luck.
Turning back to the lieutenant, he offered a friendly enough smile as he offered his hand. “Staurolite,” he introduced himself, “and you are?”

"Euchorite," she replied, accepting his hand with a firm shake. Euchorite returned the smile and gestured toward the black webs. "Shall we investigate further or leave these strange messages be?" she inquired, her eyes scanning the surrounding area for any other signs of unusual activities. ((45))

”I usually always lean toward investigating,” he said after barely a second of consideration. “Never know what’s on the other end, maybe you’ll find something interesting or helpful to the organization in some way, shape, or form.”
Besides, he still had plenty of time for the evening, and he had a bone to pick with these web-spinning bastards.
Staurolite nodded toward the trees, a determined (albeit rather wicked...) look on his face. “Interested in tagging along? Company’s always nice when you don’t really know what you’re potentially walking into and all that.”

Euchorite nodded in agreement, intrigued by the mysterious messages left behind by the spiders and curious about what they might uncover. She was always up for a challenge, especially when it involved unraveling a puzzle or exploring the unknown. "Count me in," she replied with a determined glint in her eyes, ready to face whatever lay ahead. Euchorite didn’t want to embarrass herself in front of him. He was a higher in rank than she was. Euchorite followed closely behind Staurolite as they ventured deeper into the forest, the black webs stretching like ominous shadows between the trees. -98-

”Nice!” the Captain grinned and turned to head into the forest.
It was bizarre, walking past the tree line and immediately being swallowed by a darker, more ominous feeling atmosphere. Looking behind him, he could see the moonlight just beyond, the difference so stark that it sent a chill through him.
“Yep, company was definitely a good idea,” he whispered, looking over at the lieutenant while wearing a shaky grin. While he was normally one to approach such situations with a lightness that he was certain annoyed many around him, this time around he was struggling to hide the nerves that were slowly taking over.
They hadn’t ventured too deep into the forest before he asked, “Well? See anything?”

Euchorite scanned their surroundings, her senses keen as she observed the eerie stillness of the forest. The black webs seemed to be more densely clustered deeper within the trees, creating an almost tangible barrier. Euchorite was grateful that the spiders that were making these webs disappeared as soon as they weave them. There was something unnatural about the way the spiders seemed to vanish into thin air, leaving behind their intricate webs as if they were never there. When her parents had dumped her off at her grandparents house and left her there. Euchorite would have never thought that Destiny City was a place full of mystery and intrigue. She had always considered it a dull town with nothing exciting ever happening. But now, as she stood in the midst of the dark forest with Captain Staurolite, she couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement coursing through her veins. As they continued further into the forest, the air grew thick with tension and a sense of foreboding. The black webs seemed to pulsate with an otherworldly energy, casting eerie shadows that danced around them. “I see…” Euchorite didn’t know what to say. It just seemed like the webs were leading them deeper into the heart of the forest. As they followed the trail of black webs deeper into the forest, Euchorite couldn’t shake the feeling of unease that settled in the pit of her stomach. The dense canopy above cast ominous shadows, making it difficult to discern what lurked beyond the twisted trees. ((275))

Considering her non-response, and the way their surroundings seemed to be closing in around them–between the denser trees and the amount of black webbing he was starting to see, never mind the mood of the space becoming eerier by the second–Staurolite brought them to a stop just short of what could very well be the very heart of the forest they were in.
It was bizarre to think that there was such a forest in the city, but there they were.
“Might be smarter if we backed out now,” he said, looking over at the lieutenant. He wasn’t a coward by any means, but he liked to think that he had a very good sense for survival. He had plenty to live for, after all–Hannah, of course, and then his parents and sisters–so he approached every situation with a way of escape in mind, just in case.
“I’m not interested in potentially becoming a snack to a clan of giant spiders or something,” he smirked at the reference he managed to pull from that incredibly popular series, “or whatever might be further in if we kept going. I’m gonna portal outta here. You wanna come?”

Euchorite nodded in agreement, feeling a sense of relief wash over her at the captain's suggestion to retreat. As much as she craved adventure and mystery, she also valued her safety above all else. "Sounds like a plan to me," she replied, her voice steady despite the lingering unease that clung to her like a shadow. "I'd rather not stick around to find out what awaits us deeper in this forest." ”Perfect.”
Without missing a beat, Staurolite reached over and rested a hand on the liuetenant’s shoulder, and just like that they disappeared to the safety of the clearing just beyond the forest. It drained the Captain of just about all of his strength, but it was worth it. At the very least, he’d sleep soundly once he got home.
And with any luck, he could forget about the weird spiders and the biting words they spun in their webs for him.
