Destiny City is a large place, with a large population. It’s not uncommon to find a lost item here or there. Maybe a keychain, an earring, a book.

But, a six sided die? That’s different.

While traveling through Destiny City, you find a strange little object. It looks like old, stained wood, but something shiny in it catches your eye. How could you resist picking it up?

Tololo had barely been watching where she was walking. She’d just been out on patrol and had decided to go home. She felt her booted foot hit something small and had assumed it was a rock. At least until she looked down and saw that it wasn’t very rock shaped. Crouching, she peered down curiously. A die? Not something one normally found randomly in the street.

Reaching out to pick it up, she took a moment to admire the threads of color lacing through it.

Space 4:
Something smells rotten. You can’t see very far into the darkness, but if you squint closely a dark form seems to be dragging itself along the ground. Sometimes you see a pale hand almost close enough to grab you–or, maybe something does grab you. It’s cold, and frightening, and it’s trying to drag you out of bounds.

The jolt as she went from crouching in the middle of the street to crouching in the middle of an odd wooden square that was playing twinsies with the mystery die was… alarming. Freezing, the senshi dropped the die, not seeing that it was bouncing and rolling about until it settled on one side. She was so busy staring at her new and not creepy at all surroundings that she nearly jumped out of her skin when she felt a force shoving her.

Since she very much wanted to find a way out of whatever this was, she obliged. She would have walked the whole path, but another force stopped her from continuing beyond a certain square. What the hell was even?

And what was that smell?!? It reminded her strongly of when a rat had gotten into the walls at home and died. This was like that, only much, much worse. Gagging a little, Tololo tried to move from the square but was stopped by something that felt like a flexible wall. Growling a little under her breath, she noticed her die on the ground and scooped it up. A movement from off to the side caught her attention and she saw something big and dark moving towards her. And the smell seemed to accompany it.

But when she turned to really look, nothing was there.

She would have chalked it up to overactive imagination had it not been for the very pale and slimy looking hand suddenly reaching up out of the darkness for her. Shrieking, she jumped back, dropping the die.

This time, she saw how it bounced before landing on a number. No, it couldn’t be that easy, could it? She hesitated for a half second before deciding that her options were to move forward or stay to be grabbed by hands that simply could not be hygienic.

Space 6:
You hear a shrill, humming noise; it sounds almost like something is firing past you–and sometimes, you even feel a sharp burst of air, like something has just missed you. Maybe, even, it does get a slice out of you. Sharp, bladelike threads seem to string up around you; you’d best be careful not to get cut on any of them between now and your next dice roll.

Her leap of faith seemed to pay off and she was able to move away from the hand and the smell. Maybe not as far as she would have liked, but it was forward motion nonetheless. But before she could congratulate herself too much, something whizzed by her ear, making an odd whining noise and taking a bit of her ear with it.

Slapping her hand over it and hissing in pain, she felt little, odd burst of air all around her, thought nothing seemed to touch her. Nothing that weird threads were appearing, the senshid of friendship realized that she did not want to stick around here.

Moving carefully, she dropped the die, letting it roll and stop. Once it settled, she hurried ahead, kicking the die a little until it was safe to bend down and scoop it back up.

Space 12:
The smell of smoke is in the air. You can’t see what’s burning, but you can hear distant screams, and–carnival music? It feels like people are running past you, and the air fills with panic and alarm–but there’s nowhere for you to go, and the smoke is so thick. You’d better roll quickly so you can get out of here.

The smell of smoke assailed her nose as she hit the next square and was forced to stop. Coughing a little, she wondered what this bit of the board was meant to showcase.

She didn’t have to wonder long as soft, discordant strains of carnival music reached her ears at about the same time the screams did. Actually smoke began to surround her and she could feel panicky bodies beginning to shove their way past her. Rather than stick around to be trampled, burned or both, Tololo crouched to where the air was slightly more breathable and rolled the die.

Space 13:
At first, the square is quiet. Nothing seems amiss. It’s unnerving in how safe it seems. But then, it only takes a few seconds before you understand why. It’s just taken a moment for them to get to you. The patter of tiny feet is rapidly approaching. There’s no light to see them, but there’s a reflection in their beady eyes. Rats. Thousands of them. Chittering, frothing in the mouth. These are strangely grotesque, mutated abominations. They’re running at you like they haven’t got a fear in the world–only, hungry. And rage. If they get to you, they’ll eat you alive. The ground is trembling with their weight. You’d better roll quickly if you don’t wind up a meal.

Moving to the very next square, Tolo felt mild relief when she wasn’t nasally assaulted or subjected to creepy visuals or sounds. She would have liked to relax, but some inner sense wouldn’t let her.

She hadn’t won this game yet. What or whoever was running this thing wouldn’t be nice to her yet. How she knew this, she couldn’t say. As she allowed herself to breathe and puzzle over the quiet, she heard a soft pattering and frowned. She knew that sound. Why did she know that sound?

She was sorry she’d asked when she saw the gleaming eyes shining at her. Rats. So, so many rats. And twisted somehow into things that she knew she did not want reaching her. Normal rats were dangerous enough when they were hungry. These things looked like they could take down an army.

“Nope!” she yelped, quickly rolling the die and hoping she was quick enough.

Space 14:
The ground is sticky. You land on this and immediately dip, as though you’ve stepped on a trampoline. Close inspection reveals that you are standing on an intricately woven web–and your shoes are stuck. And something is skittering just on the horizon.

Once again, she hadn’t moved as far as she would have preferred. She could just barely see the end of the board and longed to reach it. Still, she didn’t seem to be in danger of being devoured by weirdo rats here and that was absolutely a plus in her book.

She took a step and felt the ground under her bouncing gently. Well, that was weird, but not terribly objectionable. But why were her feet sticking? Pausing to look, her eyes narrowed, then widened as she saw the thick, sticky roped reaching out and connecting in a way that she recognized.

Webbing. This was a spider’s web. A very, very large spider’s web.

She could hear the chittering and feel something big moving across the web. And… no. ******** no. While she liked spiders in general and had kept one as a pet, she did not want to encounter one that spun webs this size.

Throwing her die, Tololo began to move before it had even landed, trusting that whatever rules made up this place would allow her to move across the board.

Space 20:
The end; once you have arrived here you are free to leave. You will see be basked in the glow of a beautiful, opalescent aura that will take you back home. If you arrived with a guest, you can leave without them or choose to stay until they make it to the end as well. When you arrive back in Destiny City, you may choose to keep the six sided die–if nothing else, it’s pretty! Though, it doesn’t seem to have any magical qualities, that might be for the best.

Feeling like she could finally breathe as her feet touched down on the last square, Tololo felt mildly startled. This square wasn’t on fire or covered in horrifying vermin. No weird smells or threats.

Only a lovely, opalescent glow that seemed to wash over her. Had she successfully completed the game? It seemed so. Daring across the street, she plopped down on the curb and just sat there. She just wanted to soak in some normalcy for a moment.

In the distance, she could hear sounds of traffic on the more heavily populated streets. It was… nice. Normal. She never thought she’d appreciate traffic, but right now? Yeah. She was a big fan.
