Quote: The Creature in the Well (9) : While Destiny City has a modern water system, it’s not uncommon to see decorative wells around the city. Often in parks or around gardens, they grant a peaceful, countryside flair to the otherwise busy metropolis. Most days, they blend into the background. Not today. Maybe you heard a powerful, fierce splash, like something smacking violently against the water, or maybe it was the unnerving croak that echoed from deep below, but something has clearly gotten trapped in the well. Sometimes, there’s the distinct sound of something clawing, scratching, climbing–desperate to get out. The noise it's making is deep enough to vibrate through the ground. If you go to investigate, you’ll see nothing but a pair of golden, snakelike eyes staring back up at you. Whatever it is, its body is completely submerged under the water, but just looking into its eyes is enough to petrify someone. There’s something hypnotic about it, something that seems like it’s drawing you into the well. And why shouldn’t you climb in? What’s stopping you? Danger is forgotten; the creature in the well has made a target of you. Hopefully you have someone to pull you out of the trance–or, maybe if you’re strong enough, you can do it yourself. If you lose the battle with the creature, you will fall unconscious just as you hit the water in the well; you will feel the sensation of something coiling around you, crushing you, and then–blackness. You will wake up in a hospital with a day lost and no memory of what happened in the well, or how you were pulled out. You only have bumps and bruises, and when you close your eyes you’re haunted by the chilling golden eyes in the well. If you return to it, you’ll find nothing but a strange, croaking echo.
In spite of the (sometimes extreme) weirdness of the City, Tololo loved it. There were so many quaint and picturesque places and things scattered around. Like this well, she thought. It looked like something out of a storybook. But no storybook she’d ever read had mentioned wells that rattled and make the ground shake.
She’d been out patrolling and had heard pretty angry animal-like noises coming from the area. If an animal had fallen into the well, she very much wanted to help it get out. Even as she watched, she could hear scrabbling and the loudest croak she’d ever heard. She wasn’t even sure what animals croaked like that. It sounded like a frog or toad, but all the other noises were… big. Hesitating for only a second, she hurried over to the well and was about to peek in when she felt an aura approaching. Oh! That was good! IT meant a set up helping hands so she could rescue whatever had fallen in.
She waited until she saw what could only be a knight, though very different from Ekstrom, and waved.
“Hey!” she called. “I think something’s fallen in here. Mind lending a hand?”
Turning back to the well, she rested her hands against the edge and looked in. She wanted to know what sort of rescue effort would be needed. It took a moment for her eyes to adjust to the gloom and she couldn’t see an animal. But she did see the most fascinating golden eyes peeking out of the water.
Oh my…

It was always sort of exciting, to run into someone new. So when Lanting felt a Senshi's aura, he made his way towards it--it'd be nice to have a chat for a little bit, and maybe get to look out for someone or something. Not that he was great at that kind of thing, but he could try.
But as soon as he saw her, peeking over the edge of that well, he felt a rise of panic. Oh no. There were more of them, more of whatever had tried to lure him down.
He darted forward, as fast as he could, and put a hand on her arm, tugging her back.
"No no no, whatever is down there does not need your help, I ran into something like it and it is not some innocent thing that needs to be pulled out of the water." Sure, Lanting didn't know what would happen if you tipped in, but he wasn't exactly about to let this poor Senshi find out. "You try and reach in there, and you're gonna drown." Probably. Maybe.

Tololo was captivated and already trying to hook her leg over the edge of the well when she felt a hand on her arm, pulling. Annoyed, she pulled back, determined to climb in. Drowning? Pffft! Who cared about drowning? They were just eyes and she wanted to go in and look at them! What, exactly, was the problem?
But that hand was insistent and given her slightly precarious position, she didn’t have the balance or leverage to really fight back and she finally felt herself being pulled backwards until she landed a** first on the grass.
“Owwwww! What the hell, dude?”
Shaking her head in annoyance, she felt almost as if a weird sort of fog was releasing her brain. After another moment, she turned to look at the knight, eyebrows furrowed.
“Okay, hold up. Run all that by me once more? Bit slower this time, though? You encountered this whatever-it-is?”
Part of her desperately wanted to scramble up and swan dive into the well, but she was able to keep it locked down now that she was looking at another person and not those crazy golden eyes.

Lanting was, fortunately, a very stubborn person. He was absolutely not inclined to let go, not when it could mean someone getting hurt. Or worse. Who even really knew what was down there?
"I'm sorry if you're hurt, I can fix that, but a little sore from falling is better than whatever would have happened down there." He was one hundred percent sure of that, at least.
So, he took a breath in and let one out.
"A couple days ago," he said, "I found one of those wells, with weird scratching and rattling noises coming from it. I thought there was someone in it that needed help, but there were just these....glowing eyes, and I was totally ready to dive in--sound familiar?" He smiled, a little tiredly. "Someone else pulled me out before I took the plunge, but it seems pretty obvious to me that whatever's in there, it's bad news."

Squinting and forcing herself to focus on the knight helped. It was odd just how much it helped, in fact. And that, more than anything was what helped to convince her to stay where she was until the desire to go into the well lessened.
This ********' town...
"Yeah, I only saw these glowing, golden eyes and all I wanted was to go in after them," she said slowly. "Heard a couple weird croaks too."
Sighing, Tololo made a grimacing face. Just how long would they have to sit here until she no longer wanted to climb in? The knight seemed over his own bout with crazy.
"Just once," she muttered, "I would like to not have to deal with extreme weirdness. Okay, so whatever is in there is bad news. Fine. Is there a way to make it go away?"
She wasnt entirely happy with the idea of leaving anything down there, especially when she had the distinct feeling that it didn't enjoy the well either, but she couldn't see a solution either short of buddying up. And that simply wasn't practical.

"Yeah, that's about what I heard," Lanting said. "It seemed...like all I wanted to do, at the time." He exhaled, and shook his head, sitting down on the grass. "I don't know for sure what's in there, but I'm pretty sure it wants to hurt people."
At least, that seemed the only conclusion one could draw from a creature that attempted to lure people into diving into wells.
"I don't know if there's a way to get rid of it," he admitted. "Or even what it might be. But just...sit. For a little while. And wait until you stop thinking about it. I guess."

”I mean, in fairness, I’d want to hurt people too if I was trapped in a well and couldn’t get out,” Tololo pointed out reasonably. “Especially if I was an animal that might not be able to reason things out.”
Sighing, she crossed her legs in lotus fashion and bent over at the waist until her forehead was touching grass. After a moment of inexplicable yoga posing, she sat back up before throwing herself backwards to flop in the grass. Idly picking at the stuff, she turned to look at the knight.
“Okay, I’m sitting. Or laying if we want to be pedantic. Since I still kind of want to go take a swan dive, you’ll have to keep me here and focused. So, may as well introduce yourself and tell me a bit about you.”
With another little sigh, Tololo stared up at the sky and forced herself to remain still. She’d be fine as long as she didn’t think about those eyes or look towards the well. But, it was going to make for a long night.
