The Gargoyles (3) : Even when you thought you’d seen the last of them, it seems like you’re never really in the clear. A while back, there was an infestation of awful gargoyle creatures–and while every Star Festival had its fair share of oddities, this one seems to have introduced a permanent infestation upon the city. Maybe you see them perched on the roof, or hiding in the shadows, but not all of these grotesque creatures are satisfied with just escaping their interdimensional prison–some of them still have a bone to pick. They seem stony; some of them will watch with a penetrative gaze and never strike to attack, but some of them will dive down to target anyone who gets too close. The monsters come in an array of sizes and shapes, but they are no more than half the size of their target. Their goal is uncertain, but they will crumble into a pile of rocks and dust if struck hard enough.

This RP can be used as a battle requirement as long as there are at least two powered characters involved; you must be interacting with another player’s powered character and cannot solo this with two of your own characters. This does not count as the ‘one youma battle’ per stage for growth. This can only be used as a battle requirement once per character, but there is no limitation for how many times a player can use this prompt.

There had been fair warning from Alexandre, that this was the season when things would start to go wrong, the time he had missed by mere days when he had moved in last year. He couldn’t not be curious though, not when he had heard the rumors from patrons of his shop about Gargoyles being put up on the nearby churches. They weren’t as grand as the ones back home but he still wanted to see them.

So tonight when he ventured out, he brought Alexandre with him just in case. Choosing to walk with the blonde, he stretched his arms back behind his back as he walked. “I heard about something interesting, Mon ange, new church statues. I’m not sure exactly where they are but one of my customers gave me an address and I thought you might want to join me. They might bring inspiration for another small painting of mine for the fall?” He’d been too stressed with his lease and now his ex running around this city, he was hoping this might be a nice break from it to get an idea for something to paint with the other.

He’d warned Rene many times over the past few months, since meeting him actually, in regards to how dangerous this city was. Once Rene had powered up he’d explained further, letting the other know all about the chaotic magic which infested this city and seemed to culminate during the fall and winter months. While summer and spring were fairly peaceful, and people could enjoy the heat and sun, the winter months when it cooled down and people bundled up and wanted to get cozy…was when things got crazy and dangerous. Cozy and comfortable were not always things a person could be during this time of the year.

He was already stressing, and getting worked up, over the fact there would be something going on with spiders - he was damn sure of it. It was just a matter of what and when they started to turn up. He wasn’t sure if the big, nearly car sized spiders, were worse than the little ones you couldn’t even really see. Both had been a nightmare for him and left him terrified, paranoid, and sealing up his windows and doors. It hadn’t worked…and he was prepared to make an attempt again at sealing up his home…even if he knew it would inevitably fail. Tonight at least Rene had taken him out to see something, something special apparently.

Walking at the others side, his hands in his pockets, the petite general wasn’t so worried about order. He was looking out for signatures but he wasn’t too concerned, it was a casual night for them….a date of sorts even? “Seeing a painting from you would be nice…I might frame one even. Especially if it’s something inspired by tonight, by the gargoyles you’re talking about, I must admit that is one thing I wish this city had…the architecture of Europe. We lack so much there…the personality and the style.” Though the idea of gargoyles had him on alert…he’d fought one before…would this be the same? He did hope not, he didn’t want even this ruined for Rene. Eventually, he’d get tired of this city, or too scared of it, and run off to Europe again and he’d have to follow after him. That ex of his turning up wasn’t helping matters either…he’d need to handle her soon, one way or another, he didn’t care if she wound up furnishing a coffin or if she was lying under a flower bed in his backyard. Either way, she’d be dealt with.

“I can do that, maybe I’ll try painting something a bit bigger than I usually do if you want to put it up.” It might keep the other’s mind off of spiders, he knew the things liked to try getting inside as the weather got colder so they didn’t freeze. More than once he’d scooted one outside without the blonde seeing it, he didn’t really want to crush them if he didn’t have to since they did keep the other bugs at bay.

“I am surprised to see them here but I know that gargoyles have sort of scattered across the world even if the inspirations are different.” Looking over at Benitoite, he smiled mischeviously. “Yes the personality here in the buildings isn’t as nice as back home but I can say I prefer at least a few places here.” Hinting at their home as well as the larger family home he’d been to during Easter.

Noticing a shadow on the ground, cast from the moonlight of a bird maybe, Rene looked up at the church which matched the address on his phone as the arrival ping notified him. “Looks like we’re here, I think I can see them. They look a bit smaller than I was expecting, maybe because they don’t want to keep them up year round?” Maybe it was similar to an art installation, at least that’s what he thought as he squinted to try and look at the things. For a moment he could swear one had moved as that shadow seemed to pass over him and Benitoite again. It seemed bigger this time but he wasn’t sure exactly.

“That I’d appreciate, I’d like a piece I could hang in the living room perhaps?” He’d find room, because of course he would, it would be even better once they’d moved and he’d have a larger living room thus lots of options for hanging paintings and other things. “Yes, they might have originated in one place…but like people they have migrated, even if they no longer serve the purposes they once did.” He rather liked them though…something about them was pleasing in some way…the style and perhaps the old world feel to them.

“Of they didn’t think people would like big ones?” He too was surprised bythe size of them, but he was also somewhat glad. He had a sinking feeling about them, and he hoped he was proven wrong, if he was indeed correct than them being small would be a blessing.

Noticing what he swore was a moving shadow, which meant the gargoyle moved, he pressed tight to the others side. “If things go wrong…power up.” He whispered, already fearing he might be right. Because there should be no moving shadows…not like that.

“We could both paint something up in your studio, something together maybe?” He’d sat with them while they worked sometimes, watching their process and doing his best to not disturb them. It was peaceful watching them and he sometimes painted on his traveling canvases while they worked, capturing the moment one small canvas at a time.

“Maybe… if they’re new the buildings might not have the support for larger ones either…” Trailing off, he noticed the shadow moving and felt for his pen. “I… think they moved, that one wasn’t facing us before.” Oh that he most definitely didn’t like and powered up as something swooped down towards him. Ducking and pulling his arms over his head, he threw his magic out, hoping it might do something to the thing that tried to attack but he wasn’t sure since it was airborne.

“Why can’t this city be normal for a bit?” Groaning as he looked over at them, he knew he’d have left this city if it wasn’t for them. Especially now that more problems seemed to be popping up all around him.

He was right - he knew it! He knew it and he wasn’t pleased with it, this city and its magic and these gargoyles had ruined things tonight. Growling softly the blond threw himself out of the way of the incoming mass, rolling across the ground, he was powered up by the time he stopped rolling.

“This city doesn’t know how to do normal…at least not this time of year. Perhaps next year we can book an extended stay in Europe…or go on a long trip across Europe and take in all the sights.” It would mean no magical mishaps, like this, and no ex girlfriends to deal with. The idea was promising. While Kafka had powered up, and aimed to attack the damn gargoyle, the blond had decided it was a good idea to throw himself on top of the other…as a shield of sorts.

“I think we need to get out of here…” And sooner rather than later. Taking the next hit the blond was glad he’d moved to cover his partner, Rene would have gotten hurt, as it was his back a was nothing but pain. The gargoyle had impacted harshly and knocked the wind from him. But he dragged himself to his feet, summoning his weapon. “Time to make a retreat.” And attack as needed in order to do so.”France sounds lovely, the gargoyles there should be lovely…far better than here.”

Even with the other blocking things, he still felt it and winced a bit. It had to have hurt the other more than it hurt him and he looked them over just in case. “A vacation sounds nice, you could use one and it’ll be nice this time of year back home.” Stepping back as he watched the skies, he made sure to keep close to the other.

“I’m all for getting out of here and to be honest…. At least this makes sense.” He didn’t like it but gargoyles being alive wasn’t something new, at least when it came to stories and pop culture. It didn’t mean he like the idea of getting attacked by the stone things. The thing dove close and he already regretted what he was about to do but he was annoyed after each time he’d wanted to go for a nice walk with the other something spooky popped up.

He swung at the thing, as hard as he could, and it hurt like a b***h but the stone seemed to give and crumble slightly. Pulling his hand back and shaking it out, he cursed and moved with Beni to get out of the way as the thing impacted with the ground and shattered.

“Well… I can say I have some interesting inspiration now. Let’s go before the rest of them come down.”

“Yeah, I think a trip to France would be perfect, you can get inspiration for gargoyle paintings there.” He said over his shoulder, glancing to the other for a brief moment, he was keeping Rene behind him so the gargoyle would have to face him first. Only the plan to keep his partner safe didn’t work…Rene decided to punch the damn thing, causing Alexandre to shout in surprise, he watched the gargoyle hit the ground and burst into pieces.

That dead, if it was even alive really, he turned on the other and went for his hand to inspect it. “Does it feel like anything is broken? You just punched stone…” Concerned for the other, despite his own pain, his back hurt and had him hunched over because standing straight hurt too much. “Need a hot bath…and sleep.” He’d try and sleep on his side, because he didn’t like sleeping on his stomach as it was uncomfortable.

“Can you text Katya and let her know to cover us…we can teleport home tonight.” He was not feeling up to walking, his back hurt like hell and he was not looking forward to things.

Hissing slightly between his teeth as they touched his hand, he flexed his fingers slowly and figured nothing was broken. “Maybe not my best idea but it felt pretty good.” Pressing a kiss to the top of their head, he pulled his phone out with his other hand to message Katya. He knew she would be away this late and was glad to see the floating dots of her typing a response. No surprise, she was able to do that for them so he put his phone back away and wrapped an arm gently around the other so he didn’t press on their back.

“I think I can do it this time, at least if a topple over it’ll be onto carpet if its the living room.” Teleporting on his own had gotten easier but pulling someone along was a lot still but he didn’t want them to move too much. Thinking of their home, of that couch, he managed it well enough. “I’m looking forward to a bath, maybe some ice after too.” Hopefully they weren’t too bad off, he’d be able to see after they powered down. If it was bad, he’d get Lorcan over because he knew the younger cousin would be there quickly and figure things out. Maybe they’d get a lecture, but he’d rather that than dealing with a regular hospital.
