Quote:
The Gargoyles (3) : Even when you thought you’d seen the last of them, it seems like you’re never really in the clear. A while back, there was an infestation of awful gargoyle creatures–and while every Star Festival had its fair share of oddities, this one seems to have introduced a permanent infestation upon the city. Maybe you see them perched on the roof, or hiding in the shadows, but not all of these grotesque creatures are satisfied with just escaping their interdimensional prison–some of them still have a bone to pick. They seem stony; some of them will watch with a penetrative gaze and never strike to attack, but some of them will dive down to target anyone who gets too close. The monsters come in an array of sizes and shapes, but they are no more than half the size of their target. Their goal is uncertain, but they will crumble into a pile of rocks and dust if struck hard enough.

This RP can be used as a battle requirement as long as there are at least two powered characters involved; you must be interacting with another player’s powered character and cannot solo this with two of your own characters. This does not count as the ‘one youma battle’ per stage for growth. This can only be used as a battle requirement once per character, but there is no limitation for how many times a player can use this prompt.

From her rooftop perch, Tololo was having a staring contest with a grim-faced gargoyle on the next building over. She wasn’t sure why, but these things made her neck prickle and her hackles rise. Shifting slightly, her eyes slid away from the gargoyle for the briefest of breaths as she crossed her arms over her knees. When she looked back, it felt like the damned thing had moved.

Huffing softly, the senshi of friendship decided to keep watching, determined to figure out if she was crazy or not.

She could feel an aura nearby too and ground her teeth together. Normally, she was all about meeting new folks, but this time it was a distraction from her self-appointed task of watching the creepy little monster statue. Still, she had to be fair. It wasn’t the unknown’s fault that they’d picked the wrong time to wander about. If she was lucky, they’d be friendly and maybe willing to act as another set of eyes. That’d be nice.

Being new to Earth, it’d been hard to tell if moving gargoyles were normal. He had hesitated to guess “no” before one promptly flew down from its perch with him in its sights. Normal or not, it probably wasn’t a good thing if it was trying to hurt him for simply staring because he could swear he saw it move.

And to his absolute misfortune, his magic had decided to short-circuit when he tried to use it, so he was left with just one option: run.

So Haik was currently sprinting down the street for his life. Thankfully he was more limber and agile than he looked, and being powered he was also able to run faster and jump higher than the average person. Still, even he got tired, and he was about at his limit when he sensed another aura nearby.

“Finally,” he panted, and adjusted his trajectory so he was headed straight for them. He also figured a higher vantage point was good, so he leapt up onto a nearby roof, and to his relief spotted them just a few roofs down. He waved frantically then, gargoyle right on his tail.

“Hi! Evening!” What was a proper greeting in this situation, anyway? "Would you…by any chance all…be able to help with this…thing?

The speed with which the aura was approaching made Tololo’s eyebrows raise. But, within moments, she could see why they were moving so fast and she let out a startled yelp.

“I knew these ******** things could move!”

Waving back, she had to admire how the other senshi maintained such manners even while running. And of course she would help! She didn’t think her magic would do much in this instance, but she had a bit of height and plenty of room to move, so a more physical attack would be more than appropriate.

“Bring it in a little closer if you can,” she called, already climbing to reach a spot just above that would make a perfect platform to launch herself. Once there, she stood up and watched the gargoyle carefully, mentally timing herself. Taking a deep breath, she let it out slowly and then leapt through the air. Just as she and the gargoyle were within touching distance, she reached out to grab the thing by it’s flapping wings.

Gotcha! The gargoyle was only about half her size, but strong. But however strong it was, it sure couldn’t keep its own bulky body aloft and hers as well. She’d force it to the ground where they might actually have a chance of winning.

Ah, another friendly and helpful senshi!

He gave a thumbs up–that was an acceptable gesture here, if he remembered right–and raced towards her, glancing back to check on the distance between him and the gargoyle. To his dismay, it was slowly gaining on him, so he focused and ran as hard and as fast as he could to try and put some more space between them.

It was only his fellow senshi leapt from her perch and managed to knock the gargoyle down to the ground that he was able to come to a stop, though he didn’t take any time to rest just yet. It was still trying to knock her off of itself, so he hurried over and did the first thing that came to mind.

He punched it on the head. If nothing else, maybe the blow would knock it out and they could get away.

The landing had been a little bumpier than she would have preferred, but since all it had done was rattle her bones, she’d consider herself lucky. Besides, the gargoyle was still trying to buck her away and take to the air again. Keeping hold of one wing, she tried to catch the damned thing in a headlock.

Fortunately for her, her new friend was quick to the rescue and apparently had quite the punch! The gargoyle froze for a moment after impact and then began to crumble and fall apart. Tololo was left sitting on the ground with a small pile of rocky rubble and a very confused look on her face.

“Well, do most enemies you punch do that?” she asked curiously before putting out hand both for assistance in getting up and to shake. “I’m Tololo, nice to make your acquaintance!”

Before they could get too cozy, an agry grinding screech came from the building above as the gargoyle that she’d been watching suddenly came alive and launched itself angrily at them.

”Not that I’ve noticed,” he said with a chuckle. Haik extended a hand to help the senshi up off the ground, grinning wide at her introduction. “Haik,” he said, “and the pleasure is all mine. I owe you a debt of gratitude for–”

Out the corner of his eye he saw the ornery and fast-approaching gargoyle, so with little warning he pushed Tololo away and took a step back as well, creating just large enough a gap between them that the gargoyle launched itself past them and into the ground just a few feet away.

“I wonder if we dusted a relative or something,” he said, making a dive for the gargoyle this time to try and keep it grounded.

Okay, he wasn't Mr Magic Punches then. That was good to know. Holding on to his hand as he pulled her up, Tololo was about to wave away any potential debts was gratitude when she was quickly shoved away.

Stumbling a little and only just managing to keep her balance, she had to admire how Haik seemed to have gotten a second wind. Or maybe it was just relief at not having to fight angry gargoyles alone.

"Or something," she agreed. They couldn't let this one get away. Or hurt them. The first had turned into rock and dust. She had no idea if her magic would work, but in the interests of continuing to be helpful, she had to try.

Doing her best to point at the creature's heart, she whispered, "Simple and Clean!"

Doubt it will work on stone, but we'll see, lolololol

Sailor Scout Attack: Simple and Clean
Effect: Tololo whispers her attack before pointing her finger at her opponent's heart and firing a pale greenish-white energy beam that resembles a star fall. When this beam hits, Tololo's magic forms a very brief connection between her heart and her opponent's heart. This connection makes her opponent feel as though they've been friends forever and may cause them to hesitate briefly in attacking her as such. Tololo can use this attack 3 times per battle for a total of 25 seconds each. As the magic fades, it leaves behind a faint scent associated with childhood friendships.

Haik watched as a beam hit the gargoyle smack in the chest, and while he wasn’t sure what to expect he was a little surprised when it seemed to calm down. He wasn’t sure what her magic did, but considering it stopped struggling against him…

“Nice work!” he laughed, the satisfaction of victory in the sound.

Letting go, he got up off the ground and was about to run over to high-five her, when the damned thing shot up from the ground and again launched at her, almost with a vengeance.

For a few seconds, Tololo thought that she might have succeeded. Only, it was becoming increasingly clear that she couldn’t feel her magic actually connecting. Hell, even youma could be affected by her magic, but not these things? It was ridiculous and a little alarming.

She saw Haik smiling and bounding over to her and for a moment wondered why. Then she heard him praising her and opened her mouth to correct his perceptions, but she only managed to get a squeak out as the gargoyle launched itself at her. Yelping, she managed, just barely, to jump backwards and out of its way.

“Yeah, I don’t think it worked,” she called, still leaping and jumping to keep out of reach. “What’ve you got?”

Haik’s eyes went wide and he skid to a stop, looking a bit more serious now as he watched the gargoyle attack his fellow senshi relentlessly. “Hopefully something,” he said, looking around to see what he could possibly do.

Noticing some kind of wall directly to the left of where the gargoyle now was, Haik gathered himself up before extending his arm, eyes falling on the animated and very ornery piece of stone to hopefully catch it alone with his current. Calling out his attack, he quickly flicked his hand to the left. While this hadn’t worked earlier, this time he noticed the gargoyle begin to move toward the wall. Gradually at first, and then without warning it suddenly surged toward it very, very violently.

His legs went out from under him then, and he felt nearly all of his power leave him all at once. Still, Haik forced himself to stay on his knees at least, and sought out the other senshi in hopes that she hadn't gotten caught up in his attack as well.

Senshi Magic
Basic — Current of Will!
Haik speaks the name of his attack and makes a sharp gesture with his hand, mimicking the direction of the current he wants his attack to follow (toward/away from him or to the left/right of him). Those standing within 15 feet directly ahead of him will feel themselves being suddenly pulled in the direction his hand mimicked for 15 seconds. It will feel as though they’ve been taken up into a strong current, and they will feel the sensation of being cold and having some difficulty in breathing for the duration of the attack. They are free to move and attack from within the current, though it might be difficult. It’s possible to be lifted out of the current, and one could actually move out of it if they happen to be near the edge. He can use this 3 times per battle.

Was rolling to see if his magic would work because I couldn’t decide. OTL Rolling helped me decide what I wanted, so they don’t matter now. XD /notmebeingextra

How Tololo had managed to not get caught up in Haik’s magic was something she’d never figure out. She’d been dodging the gargoyle’s attack when she’d turned to see where Haik was and had been just in time to see his magic at work.

Mouth open in surprise, she saw the gargoyle swept away and into the side of a building with what she would guess had been considerable force. At least, that was what she would have to assume given that there was now a small pile of rubble and dust on the ground beside the building.

“That… that was awesome!*” she gasped. Hurrying, she made her way to where Haik knelt on the ground and grinned. “Seriously, that was amazing! What did you do to it? Also, are you gonna be okay? You look way more tired than you probably should.”

Still chattering and gushing, Tololo knelt beside the other senshi and ducked under one of her arms, looping it around her shoulders. He looked way more worn out than she was comfortable with.

“Can you stand up? Let me help and we can get you to a bench or something so you’re not jacking up your knees.”

Seriously, she thought. That had been so damn cool to see.

Relief poured over him when he saw that she was unharmed, and he even managed a smile when he sensed her energy in her voice. “Thanks,” he said, gesturing something along the lines of “aw, shucks” as he spoke. Even that small of a motion felt like too much for him at that moment. He tried to downplay that, though, and instead focused on her question.

“I caught it in one of my currents,” he said, not shying away from the help she was offering as he spoke. “Thank you. Yes, I think I can stand. And I don’t know about ‘awesome’... It was stronger than it usually is, that might be why I feel much weaker than I ought to after using my magic.”

He felt wobbly on his legs, but confident. He tried not to lean too heavily on her, though how successful he was, he couldn’t be sure.

They settled by the edge of the roof, where he could lean back against the brick and rest for a bit.

“Ah…that’s better. Thank you, again.” He managed a smile and extended his hand. “For all of your help tonight. I believe we had to skip the formalities earlier, but I am Haik, Senshi of Currents. Forgive me. I’m…not from here. What does ‘jacking up’ mean?”

"Dude, don't be afraid to lean on me. Trust me, it's no bother," Tololo scolded gently even as they got him moved to where he could sit. She listened avidly to his explanation and found herself wondering at the 'usually' part. Her magic was fairly consistent in intensity. Did his fluctuate? How interesting!

Once he was settled and seemed more or less comfortable, she grinned at him and winked. "Well, Haik of Currents, you're quite welcome. I couldn't see someone needing help and not do anything. That'd just be bad vibes all around. And it would make me a pretty terrible Senshi of Friendship. Which is what I am!"

Looking pleased with herself for a moment, Tololo tilted her head when Haik mentioned not being from around here. Making a mental note to not use too much of her own slang when talking to him in the future, she threw herself to the ground and leaned back on her elbows. Once comfy, she glanced up at him.

"Sorry, jacked up usually is how I talk about hurting myself or another person when it impacts how movement happens. Knees are finicky and if you'd stayed on them too long, you probably would have gotten stiff and they'd have been hurting the rest of the day. Especially after that run you did from the gargoyle. Y'gotta take care of your body."

Ah, a Senshi of Friendship! Based on their interaction so far, that seemed apt and appropriate. The man gave her a wide smile and nodded. “Fitting,” he said, “very fitting. It suits you, if our exchange is any indication.” Even seated, he could his energy slowly draining out of him as they talked. He made a mental note to ask Jishui about this–he’d never experienced such things before.

Was it a side effect of coming to Earth? Had something maybe happened to him from getting whisked away to that strange museum back when he first arrived?

Had he eaten something weird?

All good things to ask, and he tucked such questions away as Tololo started to explain. “I see! Thank you for explaining.” He wondered if he ought to start keeping a log of the interesting things he learned about the culture of the people here on Earth. He doubted he would remember everything all the time.

“Well, it seems I owe you a debt of gratitude as well. Being new here I don’t believe I have anything of value, but is there anything I can do to repay you?”

Watching Haik with growing concern, Tololo thought he looked way too tired to be trying to sit and have a polite conversation with her. She appreciated the effort, but she’d be a lot happier if he went home and rested. And she saw her opportunity to demand he take care of himself as soon as he mentioned debts of gratitude.

Grinning a little, she waved her hand in a dismissing motion. He was so formal sounding! It was charming, in a way.

“Hold up right there, friend,” she said with a chuckle. “There’s no debts or need for repayment. I helped because I could and it was the right thing to do. You don’t owe me anything. However,” now her smile turned sly, “I do think you owe yourself a good rest. Maybe a hot shower and something to eat too. You look completely done in and it is doin’ me a concern. So, if you really feel like you need to do something for me, then I’m just going to ask you to take the rest of the night off and take care of your body.”

Sitting up, she stretched both arms over her head and winced as her shoulders audibly cracked.

“Ugh, sounds like I should be following my own advice, doesn’t it. What do you say, Haik of Currents? Is my request a good one?”
