It felt like all Evie had been doing lately was working...and honestly it was the truth. Her parents were busy with other things like advertising and going to conventions to get the best supplies and suppliers, and the help that worked on weekdays decided to quit. Yesterday.
So now here she was, tasked to write up a job description as well as now having the lovely task of working six days a week. Thankfully, they were closed on Tuesdays, so she had that day free, but it didn’t make her feel any better when she had to get up every day and open the shop and stay until closing.
They had already been short two people, and now this just…well. It took the cake.
And Sweeties didn’t even have cake so that was quite a feat.
As the bell tinkled, announcing a customer, Evie looked up and plastered a smile on her face. “Hey! Welcome…ah! Rosie! How did he like the candy? Are you here to tell me a tale? Was there romance?”
At least it was someone friendly.

Okay so maybe this was a lil ridiculous. Why did she think this would work... Simply cause she'd been there... Once? That automatically made them friends? Ugh. Maybe she was ridiculous... Probably. Sighing, she pushed the door open and forced a smile and a little wave. "He actually liked it! I thought for sure he'd look at me like I was crazy and just... not try it. So, ya know. I was pleasantly surprised." Now she knew she could possibly bribe him with candies when he was upset with her. Rosie waved a hand dismissively. "No story. No romance. I wish. I mean he's cute and all. Definite ten outta ten. But I suspect he's got his eye on someone. Which is... again something I didn't expect." She shrugged. "Would absolutely smash that if given the chance. You should see him. He's ******** goregous. I'm so jealous of his hair." She pouted.

Laughing softly, Evie shook her head and grabbed a chocolate covered cherry out of the case, handing it out to Rosie. “Bad luck, friend. Here. This should help. Grab yourself some rock candy too. Best way to heal a broken heart is sweets!”
She didn’t want to laugh at Rosie…but…she really couldn’t help it…and it wasn’t malicious, it just. She felt bad.
“Honestly, s**t like this…oh, oops. Things like this are why I just…don’t go after guys. They’re too much trouble and way to fickle and…when they have better hair than me, I get angry! I’m glad he liked it though. I was happy with those candies. They were super tasty.”

"Ugh you don't even know the half of it. I should be glad he doesn't have a sister. Good god then I'd be really screwed." Again, she wished. She popped the treat into her mouth before skulking over to the rock candy. "I am paying for anything extra this time. I can't let you do that twice." Bad business and all that. "s**t. Damn. ********." She shrugged. "I've heard it all. Don't censor yourself on my account. I have the mouth of a sailor, don't let this pretty face fool you." Rosie pointed at herself before picking her prizes for the day. "At least you've picked your side then. Don't be me. I'm very much "A little from column A, a little from column b".... If it wasn't already obvious with my earlier comment." Again Rosie shrugged before taking her selection over to the counter. She was stalling. Best get on with it. "Uuuuuunrelated to the current conversation. I have a question."

Evie laughed again, and her expression was absolutely gleeful. “What’s up, Rosie. Everything okay?” She wasn’t going to allow the girl to pay for everything, where was the fun in that, after all. “Is it relationship advice, I have to warn you, I’m as single as the day is long and the one person I had a crush on likes her horses far too much…not like. That but. She’s more…into mushrooms and nature. I think.”
Not that she had asked. It was just better to assume and be done with it.
“If it’s about candy…I got you. Completely and one hundred percent.”

"Girl same. Again. If I could with my friend. I would but I think that's more of a hassle then I think." Rosie wrinkled her nose. "No offense but I feel like... Horse girls are just... Extra for absolutely no reason what so ever. Like, sure. I get it. Horses are cool and all but I feel like I'd like a pet that, oh I don't know, can't potentially kill me with it's body, let alone it's hooves.... The nature bit's cool though. I'm more of a crystals and shiny rocks kinda person. Really like candles, personally." Now she was rambling. Whoops. "Uh. Yes and no? Candy can and probably is involved but not in the way you think." She clapped her hands together, as if praying. "Is there any chance your hiring. Or know someone who is. Low key, kinda desperate at this point."

Evie blinked and stared stupidly at Rosie for a moment, and then nodded eagerly. If it was about the crystals or the asking for a job...
“Well! It’s like you knew I was working on a help wanted ad…we are hiring. And right now it’s literally just me here…when my parents get back…”
If they ever came back, she’d have some relief but they were so busy all the time…
“You’re hired. Have you ever worked…retail before? I think…I’ll have you just on register and stocking and things like that at first, then when we’re here together I can start to teach you the candy making if you want to learn! You’re not required to if you don’t want to, but it does come with a pay bump. But…seriously, when can you start, Rosie?”

Rosie stared at her just as stupidly. That was absolutely not how that worked. She might not remember a lot, but she at least knew that. ".... Wait a minute. What happened to paperwork? Isn't there like... training. Or something?" What kinda training did one get to work at a candy store. "I mean like, sure. I can do the basic math and s**t required for register, and I have no problem running stock but..." What just happened. "I hafta admit. I didn't expect this. I can start whenever you need me too."

“Of course there’s training. I’ll be training you starting tomorrow. Can you come in at noon? I’ll have paperwork ready by then and we can have at it if you’re cool with it! I still have to hire more people, but I’m really glad that my first hire is someone who absolutely doesn’t suck. And who I think might make a pretty cool friend. Welcome to Sweeties, Rosie. We’re lucky to have you!”
At least, Evie hoped so.
Regardless. Another body in the shop would leave more time for her to have a little bit of a life!
