It was hot. Nayeli wasn’t the biggest fan of the heat and was more than ready for autumn to start creeping in. She was taking a walk, aimlessly wandering and pondering what her life was supposed to be. She’d graduated High School and she wanted to go to College, but was unsure how to pay for it. Her parents were never going to allow her to go to school for art like she wanted. She needed some sort of job or direction in life, a path forward out of the shithole that was her current situation. Her parents weren’t going to be any help so she had to figure it out on her own. Not for the first time she wished she had a car; that would open up some options. She had her earbuds in and was listening to her “New Feminine” playlist as she pondered what to do. People passed her by but she paid them little mind as she found somewhere to sit and pulled out her sketchbook to draw.

Sophia was enjoying the weather. To a point. She had herself a very cute fan that was decorated with butterflies and rabbits, a strange combination, but it was cute, and she enjoyed it. She also very much enjoyed the relief that it brought when she waved it. If the air would just move a bit…that would honestly make all the difference in the world.
She paused and tilted her head, looking at the girl with the very pretty hair and moving up behind her, gazing down as quietly as she could.
She had headphones in, so at least Sophie wouldn’t be heard, and for a long while she just watched as the girl sketched and finally, reached out, tapping her on top of the head. “What are you drawing? You’re super focused!”

She was focused on her work, erasing and redrawing the same parts over and over. She was learning how to draw anatomy properly and it was difficult. She was becoming frustrated with herself for not progressing as far as she wants yet. She was entirely lost to her own thoughts, her music drowning out everything around her, so when a tap on her head came she nearly jumped out of her seat. She whipped around, pulling an earbud out of one of her ears as she took in the person who had tapped her. She blinked, processing, for a moment before addressing the pretty stranger.
“Oh Hi… I’m just studying anatomy.” She shrugged, offering her sketchbook for the newcomer to see. She wasn’t happy with her current progress but she wasn’t shy about sharing her art. “My name is Nia. What’s yours?”
