A character might encounter some sort of mentor character, who will prepare them for the trials ahead. Sometimes this mentor is a parent. Other times, it might be a wizard or a suburban Karate teacher. Whatever form they take, they are there to guide our hero through the unknown. The original purpose of this character was probably to convince younger generations of people to listen to their older, frailer tribe-mates.

This character has many faces, but if you see any character say something like, “Relax, dude” or, “Chill out,” then they’re probably the Joker in the pack. In myth, Jokers often act as a cautionary tale, warning people not to waste too much time in pursuit of pleasure. In modern culture, they’re often the comic relief.

Their Name: Tinibiti Fabula Their Personality: Tinibiti is a caring individual. She wears her heard on her paws, which should get her in trouble, but she's also pretty fair at talking her way out of problems. This does not mean she's terribly diplomatic - sometimes she is, but more often than not, when trouble rears its head and growls at her about something someone has done, she'll launch into a panicked blitz of word-vomit.
When handling an existing relationship, Tini tries very hard to make sure her friends and loved ones are in good spirits, and she will go to the ends of the earths to find out what is bothering them if they're acting out of sorts.
Their Backstory: Tini has been around for an exceptionally long time, and through her time has lost herself more times than she can count. Sometimes this is simply being swept up in a relationship, others, she has traded bits of herself, her memory, or her identity to protect others. She is flexible, and though the gender term she uses is feminine, she is flexible with those she appreciates most. Traditionally, a shift in who she identifies with means she will forget who she was for that time, but she is quite sure she has been several names and many genders. What she -can- tell you is that today, in this instant, she is Tiniti Fabula; friend, confidant, flirt, and a Phox who falls ears over tail for a pretty face... And her legs are feeling a little wobbly, so you must be fabulous!

Creating The Warrior
Their Name: Solarus Caroun Their Personality: Solarus believes that a still body is a useless one - hardly more necessary than a door stop on a kitchen cabinet. As such, he is rarely still, and has what may be an antiquated belief that all should be able to physically defend themselves. With a particular emphasis, at least in his mind, on his own strength, he will spar or train with anyphox, and even other species if they're willing.
He finds trust difficult to give to new faces, and carefully attends a friend who is acting strangely. He has, however, made it his personal goal to keep the Mentor active, and find a way to get the Joker to take life just a little more seriously; tasks that are occasionally sure to pose their own threats and problems.
Their Backstory: Solarus has always been a fan of moving around, keeping active. When he was young, he rarely stopped moving, bouncing from here to there to see if he could help and sparring with the other youths in the pack whether they liked it or not. It wasn't until he was yelled at by one of the elders, or perhaps it was the Mentor, about his activity level being dangerous that he began to venture into board games and mental stimuli, where he found an intense appreciation for games like Chess and Go; games of Strategem, and began finding constructive ways to responsibly redirect his seemingly endless font of energy.
Their Future: Roleplay! ... The future... Will be... Roleplay. ^-^

Aiding The Caregiver
Their Name: Loaf (he wasn't born with his name, The Joker gave it to him and well, guess that's his name now) Their Personality: Loyal to a fault, he lives for his siblings. He's rarely seen without them (or are they rarely seen without him, what's really going on....) and any conversation he has with an outsider is somehow tied back to them.
It's his duty, they are his family - they are his reason.
If you were to ask an outsider what his personality was outside of being someone who is always there to protect those he loves, they may tell you they don't know. Is he a shadow of a soul, morphing into whichever sibling is there that day? He runs exercises with The Warrior as if he was the punching bag personified, he laughs at the Jokers quips even if they were directed at him.
But it hurts, when he is used for target practice. It hurts, when the jokes don't quite land as funny. But you'd never know that - he'd never let you see that. It's the price he pays for the role he was given.
And he's better for it, right? He tells himself that, at least.
Their Backstory: He would do anything for his siblings....but did he do that?
Growing up he was always the responsible one; his siblings threw caution to the wind as if life was a game, and he was always there to pick up the pieces. The Warrior got a scratch? He nurtured them back to health, taking precautions not to worsen the injury. The Joker took something a little too far and rubbed someone the wrong way? He was there to right those wrongs, apologizing for any misgivings.
He knew no other way, as his parent had instilled in him the role from day one - it was his duty to protect, to love, to nurture. He did so without an ounce of regret. Relentlessly honorbound, he held his title with pride.
And then he fell in love.
She was a spunky soul, just like his siblings, so he took an immediate liking to her. In her, he saw someone who he could protect, someone who needed someone like him to keep her grounded. Someone who was simple.
But she wanted more from him. She didn't want to be tied down, didn't want the life of a Caregiver's spouse. She wanted dragons, and knights, kingdoms and magic! She wanted freedom. So he had a choice. His family, or her.
He would tell you he'd have done anything for love. But leave his siblings? No, he won't do that.
Their Future: Going off the backstory I'd love to play with this theme of regret. He's never had regret before, but how long has it been since he chose to let her go? Does he wish it could be different?
Will he choose a selfish act of leaving his siblings to pursue a lost lover? This would be a very interesting plot that would unfold.

Assisting The Creator
Their Name: Barayas Their Personality: He is driven almost compulsory in nature to create. His desire to leave behind a "legacy" that future generations will talk about and give credence to his talent and respect to his name.
Their Backstory: Barayas in all fairness keeps his past to himself. Those he does let in he must trust explicitly for the footsteps of his past haunts him.
In the not so distant past Barayas was considered an artist to behold. His talents were perceived to be exceptional. He was commissioned by someone of high esteem to create something very specific and personal for his love. To be honest the idea was something that would require alot of time, effort and most of all precision in the creation of said project. Without thinking of the consequences in failure, he accepted the commission a decision he would later come to regret.
The commission was to create a glimmering pool, encased in the most expensive and beautiful tiles adorned with gems and precious metals. It had specific measurements and the place where this was to be built was already chosen. Upon seeing this area Barayas knew instantly this area would not work well with the design and upon explaining this to his commissioner he was met with disdain. He was told in no uncertain terms it will be built here, you will complete it and it will be perfection. If not the price I will extract from you will be one you will never forget nor will it be an easy one for you to pay.
That alone should have made him walk. He decided not to, and it cost him dearly.
Toiling under the hot rays of the sun and the coldness of the night, he worked tirelessly to create this masterpiece for the one who had commissioned him. He did his best to make the area work, but he had his doubts. He took extra time which infuriated his benefactor, but he explained it was a delay in the materials needed for the adornment on the borders. The benefactor seemed to accept this albeit with reluctance. This bought him extra time to make small changes and hopefully keep from causing a catastrophe.
Unfortunately there was not enough time in the world for him to make this perfection. The ground where he built this monument was not suitable for what he built. It was stunning and those from miles around flocked to see it only for it to suddenly collapse under the enormous pressure of the water and it flooded down the hard packed dirt and created a tidal wave of sorts and unfortunately for some, there was a heavily populated area not to far from this site and it was wiped out completely. Survivors had to find refuge elsewhere and the destruction was massive.
Barayas could never show his face again in this area. He quietly and quickly packed up and left, to wander about to find the will to create again.
Their Future: Plots: To find someone to help him not only heal his ability to create but his heart as well. He needs to find his "muse" and create again.

Advising The Joker
Their Name: Maverick Their Personality: Going along like a leaf on the wind, this jokester isn't really one to think too hard about consequences - until he is in far to deep. Preferring to be laid back and care free, Maverick, or Mav as he likes to go by, often puts off today what he can do tomorrow.....and tomorrows tomorrow, and tomorrows tomorrows tomorrow.... well you get the picture. He excels at making others laugh, but that's only to mask the lack of self confidence within himself. It's easy to hurt yourself for comic relief when you don't really care for yourself to begin with. So what if he sprains an ankle or pulls a wing muscle? They laughed, he laughed, it's all good! Don't get him wrong, that doesn't mean he's not capable of being happy, he is quite often happy living in the moment, high on that rush of adrenaline and forgetting the worries of the world. He would do anything for his family, no questions asks, but inside, he is rather unsure if they'd do anything for him in return.
Their Backstory: Always laughed at. That was his life And in part he had signed up for it, so what reason could he complain? If he did, he was met with mockery of his own usual words. Chill bro. And so he did. Or tried. At least to his family it seemed that he did. He didn't bother complaining anymore. He really ramped up the joker aspect of himself. And for a while it actually did feel good. Seeing his family laugh. His brothers in stitches. But after a bit of time, it began to feel like each joke chipped something away from him. Until he was left cracked. Blinking one morning as he awoke, he felt something stir inside him. The need for a change. Not fully, necessarily, but maybe starting small. A new place with new faces? Without so much but a few words on parchment, Maverick left his home in search of whatever it was he felt he had been missing.
Their Future: Mav would love to find someone who could make him laugh, and make him see the beauty that he is. Someone who wont fall for his simple gags and terrible jokes. Someone who see's the real phox on the inside, not the joker on the outside. It ideally would take lots of rp and plotting to find someone of that nature, whether it be friend or more.
Their Name: Moonfrost Their Personality: He has been sheltered his whole life. An only child, he has seen no fault in his parents, who have loved and doted upon him while keeping him away from the world. He is sweet, his is innocent, he knows naught but kindness in his heart, and the heart of others.
Their Backstory: Betrayal. Abandonment. His parents just up and left him one day. He did not understand why. They said they would no longer indulge him. They said he had served his purpose. He didn't understand. He thought they had loved him, but that was a lie. He had merely been a project, and they deemed him a failure. What did that mean? How had he failed? What had he done wrong? he simply didn't understand! The only thing he could think of was his friendship with the Lover. They had warned him about that one, that they would hurt him. He didn't listen, and now they had left him. He had failed by not listening, so he would leave his old life behind and forge a new one, and maybe then his parents would come back and love him again.
Their Future: Someone who can show him that he is better off without his parents, and being disobedient is not something your caretakers should abandon you over, so he no longer seeks what was in his past and can move on.
Guiding The Lover
Their Name: Ioudas
Their Personality: Love. He loves passionately, he loves deeply, he loves absolutely. His friends, his family, his lovers, all of them he simply cannot help but love them with all of himself, even when it burns him--and oh how it has burned him. Yet despite that he turns his face toward it every time, for until the burn is the warmth and he simply cannot help himself.
Their Backstory: When the bodies of birds were found with their flight feathers torn out, everyone turned on Ioudas. The accusations came so easily, he wondered what he had done to make those around him think he would ever do such a thing. Because they were beautiful? Yes, the birds had certainly been beautiful and if he had found them peacefully dead he might have taken the feathers to create a gift, but he never saw a one before they chased him away. Even when the true culprit was found sometime later, it made no difference. Ioudas would never return to that community. That they had so eagerly turned on him told him he wasn't welcome there. It hurt, but he was no stranger to being rejected, even if it had never been like this before. Nothing more to do than travel on and find somewhere else to belong.
Their Future: Someone, anyone to love him. Platonically or romantically. Someone maybe who can even teach him how to dial it back and not give himself so utterly he smothers the other, or burns himself out.
Creating The Warrior
Their Name: Azym
Their Personality: Charismatic and strong-willed with a determination to get through any strife they come across, but also with an intelligence to know they can't solve every problem by bulling their way though it. They are confident they can face whatever they come across.
Their Backstory: Azym has always been a cocky and confident one, ever since they were a kit. Always the first to leap to the defense of others, whether their own littermates or phoxes without any relation or even friendship with them regardless of the risk. It's a miracle they've come out relatively unscathed thusfar, but even when they failed, they got back up again eventually.
Still, there have been some serious losses. Once when they leapt into a flood-swollen river to save another only to nearly drown themselves, another when they faced a forest fire only to nearly suffocate when finding themselves trapped in a depression sucked dry of oxygen. Again and again their recklessness has nearly caused the demise of themselves or others, but rather than being discouraged, they've picked themselves up to try again and again. Smiling at a world often cold and unfeeling.
They're the hero, after all. They can do naught else.
Their Future: Learning to relax, learning to stop taking on the burdens of the world and realizing that they don't need to be the savior all the time, that it isn't on them alone to be the hero.

Supporting The Mentor
Their Name: Sokolata (he/him)
Their Personality: A gruff sort, he doesn't always have the easiest time expressing his affection in words, or being soft in general, but his actions speak loudly for him. He isn't fond of the way his body wears his age and it gets on his nerves when things that came so naturally when he was younger are a little more difficult now. Even when others offer aid in a well-meaning way he is likely to be bitter and then regret his roughness when they were only trying to help.
Would not know what to do with a hug if it happened to him. Would probably T-pose and be like what in blue blazes I just was being honest get this thing off of me before I have to feed 'em.
Their Backstory:
I'm going to leave parts of this as vague as possible so it can dovetail in with the backstories of the others. It's always difficult to enter an rp contest where pets are related in some fashion but it's not clearly defined, unless you're entering as a group to come up with a joint story. You get nervous about coming up with something that won't fit with another person's kiddo!

He's a little on the smaller side, and in his youth was a lanky and scrappy thing. Would often bite off more than he could chew, which is impressive with how big this guy's mouth is. A very strong moral compass and the inability to shut up has landed him in his share of fights, as he often would let physicality speak for him rather than mince words.
This landed him in some hot water, and fairly often at that. Older, wiser, he can look back and say that if he ever learned to keep his trap shut life would've probably been much easier on him. Now he has no choice but to use his head more to try and solve problems, and gets frustrated when the youths make the same mistakes he did. He finds himself in the *very* uncomfortable position of trying to be a voice of reason when he himself barely had one in his prime.
Chances are he's the sort to take anyone in, for any reason, because he knows what it means to be the underdog fighting against a world that's unjust and unkind. It frustrates him to no end when the odds don't break the way they should and he gets rather ruffled when s**t's not fair. Even if he'll constantly say that's just the way it is, he really hates that that is, in fact, how it is.
Their Future:
This old fart will probably keep being everyone's gruff dad whether they want it or not. He probably can't help himself when it comes to worrying and looking out for the little guy. I'd love to see someone that was under his wing come into their own and he can kind of mentally fist pump and be excited for them and like, have to turn around to hide a quick tear before he gets called out for having an *emotion*, heaven forbid.
I have a couple of thoughts about where this could go, but I want to keep things loose so he can be influenced by the others and see what comes his way.

Guiding The Lover
Their Name: Amora Their Personality: Amora is the kind of person to sacrifice everything to help people she loves. To her love is a strong and powerful emotion and she will sacrifice life, status and limb to help those whom she loves. She is passionate about the things she likes and throws her self into learning every bit of it. Even if she doesn’t love someone she is still willing to help. She is willing to overlook small things, someone steals her food, nope didn’t see anything. Valuables on the other hand she will not forgive theft of. No longer having as much as she used to she loves and values all the items she has left. While she might not know how to do much she is still willing to try and do her best! She tries to be a diligent worker and come off as happy to everyone but truly, she feels lost and un-anchored in the absence of that which she loved.
Their Backstory: Amora was born the first and only princess of a kingdom. As the first born she was Heir to the throne, but when her younger brother wanted it she stepped aside to let him learn how to rule instead. He was her bother of course! She loved him and wanted him to be happy. What did it matter if she had spent so much time learning how to rule all ready. It would still be helpful when she married into a different royal family.
Romantic love was the kind of thing she read about in books and desired so so badly. However she could not let herself love anyone for as the Heir and later just a Princess of the realm her marriage would be political. So she couldn’t fall in love until she got engaged at least. To fall in love with someone else would just be heart breaking, to never be together a tragic forbidden love? No she couldn’t let herself do that.Not to mention if she did fall for someone else who is to say that they actually loved her and not her status or power? Someone from a lower rank would surely be willing to use a princess to move up in the world. So the safest thing was to simply wait for her parents to arrange Prince Charming for her.
Then one day, one of her father’s advisers were found dead. Murdered. This adviser had argued against letting Amora step down and allowing her brother to take her place. He argued that her brother had a cruel streak and could not be trusted to run the kingdom properly
When talking to her brother about the horrible murder he responded “It had to be done, the man was poisoning fathers mind, he was going to push for policies that would hurt the people, hurt the kingdom, It had to be done, I love this kingdom you know that don’t you?”
Love that was it that was the ticket and her brother knew it. Yet the princess fell for it anyways. She loved her kingdom she loved her brother. If her brother killed to protect the kingdom then she would protect him.
“I did it.” She announced. “I murdered the adviser because he was against me stepping down, I have no desire to rule, and he was trying to push taxes too high, if the taxes take all the farmers crops the people will starve.”
Whether or not her father believed her lie or not is uncertain. All that is known is that the king took mercy on his daughter, whom he loved very much and instead of Execution the princess was disowned and exiled her from the kingdom.
With only a “small” amount of money, a few pieces of jewelry and clothing she was kicked out and forced to set off and figure out how to live on her own in a place far from home. Love was what had guided her through life, her love of her family, wanting them to be proud of her and happy as well as love for the kingdom. Now she had nothing and no one to love. So she kept on moving trying to find a place a town she could love as much as she had before.
