Quynh was adjusting to being back in Chibale after traveling for so many months again. While she had grown up being carried off into the different countries, her mothers always hunting some strange beasts, the Aishan hybrid felt like it was a bit harder to get accustomed to the deeper jungle and the Aishan warriors who lived there. Something about the sunny beaches of Matori still lingered with her along with the experiences there which kept a fresh flush on her cheeks even as she waded through one of the inlets along the edge of Jahaur that led into Chibale. It was pretty lovely here in its own way with the dim glow of the crystals behind her, the tall trees blocking out a chunk of the sky even along the edges here where the open expanse of sky lingered across the water further out. This little area had always been one of Quynh's spots and she tended to come here whenever she just wanted a moment to think. And spirits did she want to think after finally seeing her mothers again, the idea of presenting a hybrid to her family still bringing a bit of tension there despite their love for each other. "Oh well." She would just keep dealing with it, she hadn't backed down before and definitely was not going to give up on her feelings now. The very thought brought a small frown to her lips as she reached down to pick up a smooth rock from the clear water, the pebble sparkling as she turned it over in her hands.

Returning to her mentor’s side after everything she’d experienced had been a humbling experience. The older Aishan had raised a brow when Ika made her way back to the well-worn training area and after a few quips about ‘summer distractions’ they’d gotten back into their routine. She’d stopped by to visit with her family, though not for as long as they likely would have preferred, but her interest wasn’t in making small talk with them. She wanted to get back to Chibale for…other things.
With one hand clutching the handle of a wrapped basket, Ika kept walking. She’d gone off the normal path in the hopes of avoiding her older sister, and instead saw familiar colors through the foliage. As she got closer the figure became more and more familiar, so much so a smile crept up on her features and yet…there was something off about her. She could have easily turned around, given the other woman her space and yet, Ika wasn’t really about that. Instead, she came closer, albeit slowly and said, “Is this going to our thing? Finding each other randomly in the wild?”

The hybrid's body froze as she heard noise, but as she recognized the familiar voice Quynh's shoulders relaxed more. "Maybe." She replied, her expression brightening as she turned around to face Ika with a smile. Out of all the people to stumble into here her...well, she definitely was not complaining about this twist of events. She held up the pebble a bit playfully, showing it to Ika. "Did I pick up a summoning stone? Your timing matched perfectly." She teased before her gaze drifted down towards the basket, a curious brow rising as she looked back at Ika. What was she doing out here in this more remote spot anyways?

“Maybe? Wouldn’t be the weirdest thing to happen out here.” She plucked her legs up and around a patch of brambles until she was in a more open spot. ‘Open’ being relative, given their location, but at least here the vegetation wasn’t trying to take the basket from her. “My sister was supposed to have come back from Chibale sometime today for a visit and I might have taken a longer detour to avoid her. What about you? Why’re you out here?” And not with your mothers. The subtext was clear enough, even if she didn’t say it out loud. They’d come back to Jauhar with a purpose so seeing Quynh deviate from that was odd.

Quynh continued through the water until she was back on solid ground where she could follow Ika. "Your sister?" She asked with interest. Out of all things...she knew Ika had family, but honestly now that she thought about it there wasn't much she knew about them detail wise. Did she have a lot of siblings? Did they all look like her and what about her parents? I suppose I was too caught up with my family's reaction to her alone that I didn't think about everything and everyone involved. Quynh realized, a soft sigh escaping her own lips as the questions came towards her. "I needed a moment. Aife and Clovis, my mothers, are still settling into things since they just returned from a hunt." Settling into the area, settling into the news that Quynh was interested in a hybrid that she wanted to introduce to them soon and trying to settle their bewilderment that their daughter out of all things had betrayed their bloodline like this. She looked towards the sky and then back towards Ika with a hint of her exasperation in her expression. "Maybe we could just contemplate exploring a remote island like Matori and not returning?" She joked lightly, not even trying to hide that there was some tension with those outside of this new relationship.

Ika nodded. “My older sister, Subira.” It felt a little odd, given all they’d shared already, to be talking about mundane things like mothers and siblings, but she supposed it made sense for them. They were making a go of this in reverse so the little things were just falling into place. For good and ill, it seemed. “Ahhh. Not to keen on their daughter dating a hybrid?” Even saying it outloud sounded foolish. Quynh herself was a hybrid, but technically she was also full blooded Aishan so maybe that was better in their eyes? And it wasn’t as if Ika looked the part.
Her eyes drifted over to catch Quynh’s expression and Ika sighed. “Hold up.” She reached into the basket on her arm, lifted the cloth just enough to reveal a swollen loaf of breath and pinched off a piece. When she had a good grip on it she moved closer to the Aishan and held it up to her lips. “Open. It’s sweet bread with a honey glaze. My older brother made it.”

"Ah, I see." Quynh tilted her head thoughtfully, curious about what she should even ask. It probably would be important for them to get to know more about their families, right? She wondered how many relationships started with all of this knowledge or if they were odd for learning more at this point after becoming partners. Either way they could tackle this together, Quynh truly believed that and held onto her resolve as she nodded. It was a slight motion to reassure herself even as she continued. "Did she follow the Aishan path as well?" She asked after a moment before making a face at the direct question. "They are very old fashioned. I suppose especially on my Elarian side." She admitted with a grimace. "But you know I'm not like that at all. You would think that my childhood would have taught them something about hybrids...but I suppose it's different." If anything she loved that Ika had earthling blood, she looked beautiful with the mix no matter what others said about tainted blood.
And then there was a piece of bread in her face. Quynh opened her mouth without hesitation and took a bite before making a delighted gasp. "It's good!" She beamed before blinking again. "Older brother?" Okay, so there was probably quite a bit of introductions to be had then. How big was Ika's family?

“That’s because you’re a special kind of hybrid.” She tapped Quynh’s mouth with the bit of breath before popping it into the other woman’s mouth. “And I’m the dirty kind.” There wasn’t any bite to her words, nor was there any resignation. Ika had dealt with it enough from some sectors in Aishan communities, both in Chibale and when she’d visited Zinris, that she was just over it. “It is going to make ‘getting to know them’ hard and it’s going to put you in the middle.” And for that she did show concern for. She didn’t like the idea of Quynh being stuck like that, but with her being her and her mothers being traditionalists there wasn’t much that could be done. Not in the present, at least.
“I have three siblings; my twin, Ujiri, and my older siblings, Subira and Eurig. My mother Ariya prayed for Subira before she met my mama, Ujana, and Ujana was pregnant when she started dating Ariya. So my older sister is pure Alkidike, my older brother is pure Talean, and Ujiri and I are hybrids.”

"Only to some like my mothers, but they were biased." Grumbled Quynh even as she took another bite and savored the sweet flavor. "They're just jealous that they can't be as amazing as you." She replied, her gaze narrowing at the word dirty. It was shameful that even her own mothers balked at the very mention of earthling mixes. She truly did wonder if they only accepted her because she was their blood, others still viewed her as an abomination for mixing two types of Aishans especially those who still despised Extremists and their Elaria daughters for everything that they did before. If anything Quynh would understand that more than the disgust towards earthlings. Truly, why did they have to hold such disdain for outsiders like this? She only shook her head at Ika's concern, a small smile coming back to her lips as she reached out to steal a piece of bread to offer towards Ika instead. "I'd rather stand my ground against them than be without you." She reassured her. "It's not the first time I've raised my different opinions around them anyways." It would just some time and arm twisting, but she was certain they would like Ika within time. How could anyone hate her?
"Oh. Wow." Quynh breathed, a flush covering her cheeks as she realized she let her awe show at the revelation. "That's quite a family, I didn't realize. It's a bit bigger than just mine with me and my two mothers." One Elaria, one Alkidike and one Aishan hybrid. Nothing quite as drastic as a family with pures and mixes together. "I do have a few Elaria and Alkidike cousins at least, but we're not really close either." That was mostly thanks to her mothers and their hunting habits where they rarely stayed in one place for too long though.

I doubt that. She wondered if Quynh’s mothers had thrown a fit when they heard or if it was one of those pinched lip, disdainful silence sort of things? Ika knew her worth, even if others didn’t care to acknowledge it, but it was enough that the people closest to her made up for it. Her friends, family, mentors and most of all, Quynh. “I would never ask you to choose between me and your family.” She meant it, every word, even if it was accented by Ika taking her bite of bread. Selfish and stubborn as she was she could never ask someone to do that.
“Sounds like they just need their space for now and maybe we can ease into it? We could always start with meeting my family if you want; hardest thing there will be remembering them all.” There wasn’t any question of her family accepting Quynh or not; instead Ika worried most over getting all of the connections right when it came time. Even she had a hard time keeping things straight from time to time.
“No siblings, huh? No wonder you’re so cheeky.” She smirked. “It’s that ‘only child’ mentality. I’ve got an Aunt in Tale, too, with her family and my grandfather lives in Belrea with his new wife so this is just the tip of things.”

Quynh pressed her lips together at the very thought. Hopefully it wouldn't come to such a choice, she had some faith that despite her mothers' shock that they would come to terms with things. "That sounds like the best plan for now. I brought it up to them, they'll just need some time to settle before any introductions. Not like it's too hard since they were planning on another hunt and will be gone for a time again." Ah, the life of the roaming hunters who fought off dangerous creatures but didn't care about the nearby villages they helped while doing so. They just wanted the thrill of the hunt, and whether it helped earthlings or not it didn't matter. Aishans, perhaps, but even then they would go out of their way just to chase that adrenaline high of combat instead of waiting for requests.
"I think I can remember a few names and faces. Three siblings and mothers are surely something I can keep up with." She replied, her expression only growing more amused at the cheeky comment. "Does it show that much? I think I've always had a spark ever since dealing with others while growing up." Her words trailed off though as she processed Ika's ever growing list of family. "Oh, I see. Just the tip of things? Maybe I will need a whole class for this after all." She joked lightly. A family of five or six might be possible, but just how many relatives did Ika have and actually interact with?

“It’s cute of you to try.” She laughed. “Seriously though it’s a lot, but for the time being I’d like to keep you to myself.” Introducing someone new to the family would be overwhelming enough, but this was still new to her too. “I say we worry about all of them and their issues later. Right now all I want is to wipe that gloomy look from your face. It doesn’t suit you.” She’d much rather see her fired up or laughing; anything but that sour, pinched expression. It wasn’t as if brooding would fix any of their issues anyway.

"Alright. I suppose I can't complain if you really want that." Teased Quynh with a small smile as she tried to avoid the knot of frustration she had been feeling ever since talking with her mothers. "No gloomy face, hmm? I suppose since we're both out here and unless there's any urgent matters we could just find ways to enjoy the time and hopefully get rid of any gloominess." She playfully added, trying to focus on being more playful and less gloomy since simply mulling over these tensions wouldn't solve anything. It would just take time and so for now, why not just enjoy the moment together? They were in a lovely spot with each other for beautiful company...well, there were plenty of other ways to pass the time instead of worrying about family introductions.

“If you have any ideas I’m open to hearing them.” She reached over to hang the basket on a nearby branch, waiting all of a breath for the weight of it to settle before turning back to Quynh. “We could look for crystals…or rocks…or other things…” If it was working it was working and at any point her partner seemed put off then Ika would step back. As it stood, though, she moved a little closer until they nearly touched. “I don’t have my swords so we can’t spar unless you wanted to try hand to hand combat.”

Quynh paused at the offer, thinking carefully about how to respond. Would it be too bold to do something more intimate here? As bold as she appeared even with her flirting the hybrid was still so new to all of this. "We could look for things or practice hand to hand combat." She looked around them, a slight smile on her lips as Ika moved closer. So maybe she wasn't the only one feeling a bit motivated at the moment. "But it's a lot of water in this area, so maybe we could just cool off for a bit instead." She suggested lightly, a teasing glint in her green gaze. "It is hot and a swim could be nice."
