((Set shortly-ish after this rp)) It took a bit of wrangling, some string pulling, and one student employee who had a crush on her to pull off a spare training room at the gym. Luckily it was still stupidly early in the semester so no one was using the rooms yet, no class or club had signed up for them so Abby was able to snag the room for an hour or two, as well as got the list of training rooms that she could reserve for the times and days she wanted to train. “So Capoeira is a mixed martial art that's dance based. The history behind it is pretty interesting really,” She explained as she set out a few mats and started to stretch slightly. Abby winced when she hit a particularly tight stretch, mentally noting that she needed to actually reserve a room regularly so she could work out between classes or something. Apparently just scattered patrols weren’t cutting it. “Anyway, it has a set of kicks that I figure you might like and might be helpful in many different ways.” They might have been alone in the room but that didn’t mean that their voices wouldn’t carry outside of the space, it wasn’t exactly like the doors were closed or anything was soundproofed. “I’ll run through all the ones I know first and then I can walk you through some of them. Does that work for you?” Abby figured by showing Cliff what she meant first he could pick and choose which ones he thought he could pick up and use. Either in soccer or while patrolling.

Abby’s efficient never surprised him anymore, so when she quickly got back to him about that training they talked about over lunch some days ago, he returned her text with the saluting emoji before noting the time and date in his phone’s calendar and setting up some reminders. So today he showed up on time and was helping her set up the mats before stretching a bit as well. He was a bit sore from his usual workouts, so his groans were echoing a bit in the mostly empty room while he stretched.
“Sounds good,” he said as he straightened himself out. “Well. Okay, honestly that sounds like it’ll be pretty tough but I’m curious to see something that might be useful for my two use-case scenarios.”
With that he stood back, unsure how much room she might need on the mats but wanting to make sure she had enough. The last he wanted was to inadvertently take a kick to the face or something because he was standing too close to a demonstration.

“Considering your training I think it might be easier than you think,” Abby smiled at the younger male and started off into a simple ginga, explaining as she went that it was just a starting move just for Capoeira. It helped her get into the rhythm and after a few moments she ‘really’ started. She started off with a simple cartwheel type kick easily shifting into more and more complicated moves, adding harder kicks as she progressed. With a final, jumping roundhouse type kick, Abby came to a gradual stop. She was breathing heavier then she should have been but again, she needed to actually pick up training more. That would help with the flexibility as well as her stamina. “The cartwheels are likely the best for soccer or the Corta Capim if you ever end up on the ground.” The young woman made her way over to her bag and grabbed one of her bottles of water, quickly empting before turning back to Cliff. “I mean it’s called ‘cut the grass’ for a reason.” She smiled and shrugged before asking, “So what do you think? Are you up to learn at least one of those moves?”

Cliff stood back, arms crossed and his expression one of pure focus as he watched her gradually ramp up the difficulty. By the end of her demonstration he couldn’t help but look supremely impressed by her, and he even playfully applauded just as she was straightening herself out.
“Hell yes,” came a very quick and easy answer to her question. Granted he had a feeling it’d take a lot of time and practice to make use of any of these moves on the field, but it looked fun, and that was probably the strongest motivator of all. “It looks crazy fun, and no doubt it’ll be useful on the field once I figure out how to weave ‘em into what I do.”
Positioning himself on the mats, he stretched a little bit more before looking over to her. “So what’s first?”

its_ p a o Apologies on the delay >.< i should be faster now that my RL events have passed. Abby grinned at the enthusiastic response from Cliff. He reacted just the way she figured he would but it was always pleasant to be proven right, even if it was just an internal guess. “First… stretching.” She informed her friend before joining him on the mats as well. It hadn’t taken long at all to do the stretches, Abby had even mentally altered some of her plans as she watched him warm up. He wasn’t quite as flexible as she was so best to start from the ground up. That way he could work up to the more fancy, fighting, moves. Ones that were less about soccer and more about being a senshi. Once warmed up she started by saying, “Alright, now follow what I’m doing.” She performed a simple cartwheel, barely considered one as far as Abby was concerned. The young woman explained what she was doing, and repeated the move a few times before pausing to watch Cliff doing it too.

”Stretching, gotcha,” he said, and followed her lead. He was actually pretty flexible all things considered, but he wasn’t nearly as flexible as she was. Still, he did his best and was feeling warm and a bit more limber by the end. Once they were standing again, he stood back and watched her do a cartwheel.
He gave it an honest try, and he did…okay. Not great, but not horrible. After a few tries he looked over at Abby, ever the face of confidence. There was always room for improvement with anything, after all, not to mention everyone was almost always bad when they were starting to learn a new skill.
“Well?” he asked, taking a few deep breaths.
Fiction1119 No worries at all! I hope everything is okay. ;;

its_ p a o Oh yeah ^_^ its all good! Just lots of family/friend events taking up mental space for me <3 It wasn’t bad. It wasn’t perfect but it wasn’t bad. Abby had stood there, watching as Cliff did his best to imitate her movements, eyes narrowed as she scrutinized his form. She had several suggestions and didn’t hesitate to point them out when he finally came to a stop. Areas for improvement, things that would help, and other little pointers. She had even imitated the few errors he was making before correcting her form and trying to note the places he needed to adjust. It was exceedingly hard to do that last part while going as slow as she could. Cartwheels were not exactly a ‘slowmow’ move. It took momentum and speed to some extent to actually pull off the acrobatic-ish move. “Once you get that ironed out, and you feel comfortable with that move we can work on some of the harder ones. The ones that are a bit more soccer friendly.” She stated once she completed her suggestions. “It's all about working up to them really. I believe the phrase is ‘learn to walk before you run’ or something like that.” It had taken her a while to get to the point she was at, and she wasn’t even as good as she knew she could be, but Abby also knew Cliff would put in the work. Especially if it was useful in soccer. She didn’t really understand it but then again she didn’t have to. Life was like that.

Cliff paid close attention to Abby as she went over the instructions, and they worked for a decent amount of time going over all of it. He asked questions whenever they came to mind, never one to feel shy about interrupting an instructor–friend or otherwise–and gave it a few more attempts before they eventually called it a day.
“Works for me. I’ll work on it as often as I can,” he said with a wide grin as he flopped down beside his bag and started to chug down his own bottle of water. Cliff was determined to have it down by the next meeting, and he was already trying to sort through his schedule in his mind to see where he could afford to squeeze it in, whether in short bursts or longer practices. By the time he finished the bottle, he already had a good idea.
His grin widened then, and he nodded toward Abby. “So when’s the next session?”
