It’d been…oddly quiet. Not that that bothered him at all–it meant more time for the people he loved and the things he enjoyed the most in life, after all–but it was still a bit unsettling. Had Order finally turned in the towel?

Not likely.

He had a feeling there would have been some kind of event to mark what he imagined would be a momentous occasion for the organization, so that didn’t seem likely. Was it maybe his timing, then? That he patrolled on nights or in areas where people were easier to target, and Order was just nowhere to be found to get in his way?

It wasn’t like he hurt anyone. Not badly, anyway; he never drained anyone to the extent that they passed out on him.

That was too much work.

“Probably shouldn’t look a gift horse in the mouth,” he said, and then blinked when he felt the blip of an Order aura not too far off. A grin broke out on his face in his amusement, and he headed off toward it. The Captain opted to walk as opposed to teleport this time. He was too busy laughing to focus properly for that.

When Tololo had powered up for the night and gone out to patrol, she had not expected to feel a strong chaotic aura almost immediately. That usually took time and hunting on her part. And this one was strong! It didn't feel like the youma she'd helped to defeat not so long ago.

Very interesting.

Thinking for a moment, she gave a shrug and headed towards the aura she felt. Sure, it was probably a dumb decision, but it was already coming her way. Seemed rude to not, at least, meet whoever it was in the middle. She could curse her life choices later.

Straurolite eventually rounded a corner and spotted the Order individual in question–a senshi! His chuckles were still dying down at her timing and his luck, and from afar he raised a hand and gave them a wave.

“I was just thinking tonight had gone a little too smoothly,” he said, an oddly friendly look about him. It wasn’t by accident that he raised the hand with his crossbow on it, though, a silent warning that he was equipped and ready to fight if it came down to it. He hadn’t been so unlucky as to come across particularly ornery senshi, but for all he knew tonight would be that night.

“Don’t suppose you’d be interested in introductions before I cut to the chase?”

He didn’t enjoy this part of the job so much. It went against a number of his principles, but it was for the greater good!

Slowing slightly as she saw the owner of the aura, Tololo's eyes narrowed as he waved at her and seemed perfectly friendly. Okay, friendly was good...

Then she saw the crossbow and froze. Not so friendly after all. She wasn't sure how proficient a shot he was, but she knew crossbows were bad news in skilled hands. If he started shooting at her...

Feeling her spine prickle, she forced her gaze from the crossbow to the friendly face and tilted her head as he spoke.

"Depends on what, exactly, the chase entails," she said. "If you're about to re-enact The Most Dangerous Game, I think I'd prefer to know now and skip any intros."

She was already scanning the area just in case this went bad. If he started firing at her, she wanted easy to reach cover.

”Only if I have to,” he said with a little smirk and a casual shrug. “I’m nearly at my quota and ran out of donors just a little while ago,” he jabbed a thumb back in the general direction he’d come from.

“I don’t know if it’s ‘cause school’s almost starting up, but I’m seeing less and less people out where I normally go. There’s usually enough, but tonight…” The man looked thoughtful, as though what he was talking about was something as trivial as deciding which flavor ice cream to buy for dessert.

Ultimately he sighed and took a few steps toward the senshi. “Anyway, if you wouldn’t mind just helping a guy out with a little bit of energy, that’d be swell. I won’t take much–just what I need to meet my quota–and then I’ll be outta your hair.”

Oooo-kay. She was going to throw up. Possibly a lot. The casual way this dude spoke about draining people. It just wasn’t right. It was indecent and it made her skin crawl. Of course, part of her crawling skin could also be his aura. He was stronger than she was and the Chaos coming off of him felt slimy.

She wanted to bolt right then and head for those ‘donors’ he mentioned. She wanted and needed to check and make sure that they could get any help that might be needed. Except, here was this officer with a friggin’ crossbow standing in her way and acting like this was just a Tuesday for him. Everything about this was just wrong and she hesitated, unsure of what to do.

Until he started to approach. Tololo unfroze and moved back, eyes scanning the area in earnest.

“Yeah, that’s gonna be a no from me, dawg,” she said, voice firm even if her insides were churning. Let a nega-guy drain her energy? Yeah, no thanks! She didn't believe that he would only take a little or that he’d just leave quietly after. He hadn’t given her any means to think he was remotely trustworthy. Which was funny because, depending on circumstances, she knew that for some people, she would have agreed to the request. But she’d decided she didn’t like this guy or his crossbow and easy-breezy way of talking about sucking away people’s energy. He didn’t care about the people he was hurting, so why should she care about his quotas?

“Definitely a no. And may I also offer you a hearty Oh, ******** You, Sir.”

Crossbow be damned. She was going to find a way to punch him in the face.

Ah, well. Weren’t they all just like this one? So unwilling to be helpful. They were doing all of this for the greater good! The energy gathering and the less than savory things…there was a reason for everything that they did! Those of Order just didn’t seem to understand. Likely they never would. as far as he could tell, though he was never one to pass up the chance to exchange in civil, maybe even pleasant, interactions with them.

Who knows, maybe he could contribute to bringing some over to the winning side.

Their side.

“Can’t blame a guy for trying,” he said with a little sigh. So he lifted his arm, quickly aimed, and fired his first–and possibly only–shot for the night, assuming things went in his favor. Not that she had to know that.

Of all the choices made in her life, Tololo thought, running towards the psycho with a crossbow was probably somewhere up in the top ten worst. Still, she'd committed to her course of action and she was small and nimble and quick. She'd be fine. She'd get in, punch his stupid face and get out. She could zig zag run. It worked for alligators after all. It would have worked for the Stark kid if he hadn't been suffering from a terminal case of Lazy Writers. She totally had this.

She absolutely did not have this. The bolt hit her in the upper arm, just below the shoulder and only sheer, stubborn spite kept her from screaming right then and there as pain throbbed from the impact site.

So much for punching. It was all she could do to force herself to keep moving, realizing that she needed to keep out of his reach. She also needed to avoid being shot again. Another throb of pain rocked her world and she bit down on her lip to keep from shrieking and drew blood.

Okay, new plan. Keep away and get away. She was going to have to use her own magic

Another throb of pain washed over her though this one seemed a little less awful. Testing her arm, she was relieved that nothing felt broken, but the way the muscles caught meant that she was going to have one monster of a bruise. Okay, fair.

"I absolutely blame you for trying," she finally managed to spit out, blood trickling down her chin. Moving more warily now, she decided she had one good shot at this and called up her magic, whispering, "Simple and clean."

Pointing towards the officer's heart, she hoped that this would give her enough leeway to escape any more harm.

Sailor Scout Attack: Simple and Clean
Effect: Tololo whispers her attack before pointing her finger at her opponent's heart and firing a pale greenish-white energy beam that resembles a star fall. When this beam hits, Tololo's magic forms a very brief connection between her heart and her opponent's heart. This connection makes her opponent feel as though they've been friends forever and may cause them to hesitate briefly in attacking her as such. Tololo can use this attack 3 times per battle for a total of 25 seconds each. As the magic fades, it leaves behind a faint scent associated with childhood friendships.

His smile was steady as he narrowed his eyes, noting the point of impact and not at all minding the speed at which she was coming at him–the calm confidence of being able to teleport clearly on display.

“You’re pretty fierce,” he said as he teleported a few extra feet away whenever she got a little too close for comfort. “I think that would’ve stopped a lot of other senshi in their tracks. Good for you.” It was meant to be a compliment, but between the expression on his face and the tone in his voice it likely came off as more of a taunt or bit of amused sarcasm at her expense.

“And that’s fair. I mean, I did just hit you with one of my arrows, so–”

Clearly he hadn’t noticed that she’d used her magic, so by the time he saw the attack coming straight for him he was a little too surprised to react. The beam hit him square in the chest, and he blinked almost cluelessly at her for a few seconds.

He’d been meaning to do something just then, but now all he could see was his friend in the distance, looking a bit worse for wear. “You good?” he asked, concern evident in his voice.

Hot damn, she thought. It was working. Feeling a small wave of relief, she managed to stagger to her feet. Now, she had to get away as fast as possible because she did not have a lot of time before the friendly concern turned back into Shoot the Senshi.

Forcing a smile and not caring how ghoulish she might look, Tololo gave a friendly wave and hoped to hell that this gambit would work.

"Hey friend! I'll be okay, but if you could do me a solid and check over there for me?" she pointed off into the shadows. "It'd be such a help and I'd appreciate it so much!"

Pleaseworkpleaseworkpleasework.

If this worked, all she needed was for him to turn his back. The pulsing pain was gone now and her legs, though shaky feeling, were working just fine and she could run away.

Just please turn and look, she thought, doing her best to keep her face twisted in a friendly smile.

Seeing her stand to her feet brought him some small relief, and he gave a little nod at the request. It seemed a little odd, given that she was so far off, but maybe whatever knocked her to the ground was where she was asking him to look. And who was he to refuse a friend’s request?

“Got you! Hang in there, I’ll take a look!”

With that, Staurolite bounded off toward the shadows that she gestured toward, trusting that she would still be there once he did a thorough check of the space. The entire walk over, though, he had a feeling he was missing something. He couldn’t place it, nor could he shake the feeling, so for the moment he focused on at least trying to be helpful.

Mouth twitching as she fought to keep her face from showing too much relief, Tololo stood for a few moments, watching as the officer turned and happily headed off in the direction she’d indicated. Counting the seconds, she knew that she didn’t have a lot of time left before her induced friendship wore off. Which meant running from a fight, which honestly? Was galling af. Still, she knew this wasn’t a fight she could win and there was no shame in admitting as much and taking herself off the board on her own terms.

Once she was sure that the guy wasn’t looking her way, she bolted as quietly as possible, running for where she knew there’d be a lot more people around. She could melt into the crowd and power down and be safe. It was time to get away and go home and deal with the bruise left on her arm by the officer’s crossbow bolt.

”It’s all cl–”

Staurolite turned and saw that he was suddenly alone. The nagging feeling carried on for a few long moments after, and then it more or less slapped him in the face when he finally realized what it was.

That senshi was most definitely not a friend, especially not after this.

The captain curled his lip and heaved a sigh. He’d been bested, much as he hated to admit it, and he had to tip his hat to the senshi. It was always tough to acknowledge the need to retreat, though he was never shy to do that. He had a life to go back to, after all–a girlfriend he loved, a job that…well. He had a job and other responsibilities. He also had art, and of course he would always have his family.

Staurolite was well-versed in the art of strategic retreat.

So while he had to walk away empty-handed from the encounter, he wasn’t mad about it. It was easy enough to chock it up to bad luck, so he did that just as he teleported in the direction of home.
