Summer was well and truly in swing, it was actually nearly done if the calendar was anything to go by. Not that anyone told Mother Nature this. The city was hot. It was down right melting. As it was every year around this time. He had decided to go patrolling after a long day in the office, the need to stretch and work out the stiff shoulders had brought him to the rooftops. Luckily a breeze was helping with the obnoxious heat, that and the sunset an hour or two ago didn’t hurt. “Good lord,” Hav muttered as he stretched, not even flinching as his back let out a satisfying pop. “I’ve really got to exercise more.” It was ironic since the knight really did his best to go to the gym in between everything he had going. Sadly it wasn’t as often as he wanted. Or apparently needed. Getting old really sucked.

At least being a ‘magical fighter for the forces for good’ helped with that some. It definitely made doing stupidly tall jumps easy that's for sure.

The night slated to be pretty hot, Anna had just closed and locked the door to her shop with the decision to take a small walk around the city. At least she could get some sort of workout in and it would also allow the gentle breeze to go through her outfit of the day. Her business had A/C and she also had it for her home up above but something about a natural breeze just felt right on most days. As she walked through the streets of DC, Anna decided that she wanted to be a bit adventurous and wandered into the park.

Usually she wouldn't go without an escort [since rather strange things happened in the park and some people go missing] but it was twilight, not too dark, not much light either. Eh she knew how to use her keys for self defense so perhaps this wouldn't be so bad. She was barely even deep into the park when a hand reached out and pulled her pretty hard into what she could only describe as a solid chest.

“Don't make this harder than it has to be alright? Not gonna hurt you, juuuuust want a bit of some energy.”

Wait what?!

Anna did indeed struggle but it seemed like the longer she was held, the more energy was being sapped from her.

What was going on?!

Dem had decided he would try this energy gathering thing on his own for the night. Granted, Wither had told them that going in pairs would be their best bet. Hatter was with Pezz, and Polo was with her boyfriend yet not boyfriend so he was on his own for the time being. He did hear about Hatter's sister and one more member that might be joining them but he hasn't met either so he doesnt have their numbers yet. Apparently Villon was an emergency only guy so he couldn’t call him either.

He picked a spot near the entrance to the park to wait for his latest energy source, hoping it would be some one easy and not some brolic wrestler or something. Low and behold, his prayers would be answered in the form of a stunning woman that he was pretty sure was older than him. Now, if he wasn't in pursuit of Leah, some suave words would be said as well as a depowering before revealing himself. He would get that number and be in bed with her the next day if he was really wanting to woo her. BUT as far as he was concerned, Leah was what he wanted and probably all that he needed. As the pretty lady walked by, he quickly reached out and pulled her towards him, already starting the energy draining process.

“Don't make this harder than it has to be alright? Not gonna hurt you, juuuuust want a bit of some energy.”

Of course the woman started to fight but he noticed the drain was working, which caused her to slow down and eventually fight to keep consciousness.

Hav had ended up near Anna’s store just about the time she would have been closing up for the night. He figured he might just cut the patrolling short and surprise her but before he had fully come to that decision she decided to go for a stroll. His green eyes narrowed slightly even as he pulled his hat down lower on his face, his mind was spinning trying to understand what she was up to even as worry started to edge in. Was it just a walk? Did she have somewhere she needed to go? Was one of her girl friends going to show up and walk with her? She was a grown woman who could do what she wanted but this was Destiny City, where things go bump in the night. Wandering around at night really wasn’t the best course of action unless in a crowd.

His eyes widened and he nearly shouted out loud as he trailed her, already sensing the chaotic signature somewhere ahead. Hav was too far back though. He could move fast but not fast enough to prevent her from going into the park. But he sure as s**t picked up speed. Hav sped across the pavement and into the shadows of the tree, he didn’t even stop to think he just acted. With maybe a bit more force than needed he practically shoulder checked the officer even as he grabbed Anna and pulled her towards him so she wouldn’t go flying as well.

Once they were physically separated Hav gently let Anna go and stepped between the two. “Scram,” He practically growled at the baby officer. He didn’t want to kill the kid but if that's what it took… it wasn’t the first time he had blood on his hands.

Anna had no clue what the ******** was going on.

One moment she was very tired and the next, she was being transferred from one person to another. Her eyes were open enough to see someone wearing a green outfit flying back and hitting a tree. Huh? Was he hit by a car or something? Was he even okay?! A bit of movement and she was staring at the back of a…Jacket? A really strange one at that. Did she miss out on the announcement of a steampunk convention? She didn't think so….

Once she saw the person in green getting up, she tried shaking off the dizziness, wobbling a bit on her feet.

Okay so he got a bit of energy, but not as much as he had planned.

Dem went flying the moment the knight came to the rescue and ruined his plans, hitting a tree rather hard. “That…Was not pleasant.” He got up with a wince, looking at the…Cowboy? In front of him. “Look, I wasn't going to hurt her. You realize we have energy quotas right? You can't just ... .I don't know ... .monitor me while I take the energy to ensure I don't take too much?” He rolled his eyes, “Cut me some slack here, I'm new.” Of course he figured the cowboy wouldn't be that kind so he picked up a rock and wasted no time hurling it at the cowboy. He wasn't sure if he wanted to stick around to see if it landed but curiosity won out and he stepped back a bit.

Although….

“Is she someone important to you? That shoulder check was pretty…..Extreme.”

Hav kept a straight face even if he wanted to make a quip about how consent was always important, even in something as wild as this war, but even he couldn’t help but let out a soft huff of amusement when the Lieutenant threw a stone at him. “You don’t have the brains god gave a goose do you?” The knight looked down where the stone struck him, it was a pretty good shot all things considered. Center mass. If it had been a gun Hav would have been in real trouble but it wasn’t. It never was. For as wild as the city was at least he didn’t really have to worry about facing gun’s from Negaverse officers. Instead all Hav did was brush himself off before raising a brow at the baby officer.

“Are you done?” His voice was rather chilly, then again he was still rather pissed. “You should have run, kid.” He took a step forward, his hand tightening on his own weapon, the rope. He didn’t want to fight, not really. It was hard to do so with a civilian there, even worse since it was Anna. “Every life is worth fighting for and consent is a big part of the annoyance I’m feelin’ right now.” Another step closer, “I’ll fight you if you want, but you're out of your depth.”

He used his coat to hide his one hand, using it to indicate to Anna that she should ‘stop’ and ‘go’. It wasn’t easy to do so but he hoped she understood. If she was out of danger then he really wouldn’t mind a little scrap, although it did feel rather one sided. A Lieutenant really didn’t stand much chance against a Knight.

Quote:
The knight had a point, but who was going to say yes take my energy?

Really?

Dem sighed and rolled his eyes, “God you act like I was trying to have sex with her or something….” He did feel a shiver but really when your general is a crazy purple people eater and his cousin just happens to be a serial killer, not much can make him act outwardly in fear. Dem did see the woman take off which of course, there went his quota. His hands went up in a non threatening gesture, “Nah, I'm okay. You should go look after the girl you saved. I'll just go take my business elsewhere.” He gave the cowboy a small salute, “I'll see you around.” with that, he didn't wait for a response before taking off.

Anna did see the hand gesture the strange man made and figured she should try and head out, wobbling slightly on her feet while she made her way out of the park. So going to the park at any point in time just wasn't something safe. Her energy started to come back to her while she walked, thoughts going back to the stranger that saved her. Now that she was thinking clearly, he did seem kind of cute. Granted, she was in a relationship with one of the best men she's ever dated, but that didn't mean she couldn't drool or think about cute steampunk cowboys riding in to save the day.

Good Lord, there was quite a bit that Hav wanted to smack into the boy’s head. First and foremost to get it through his thick skull that any person would assume the worst in that situation, sex had nothing to do with it. How would the officer feel if someone stronger than you grabbed you from the dark? Hav wasn’t a girl and he knew he would be terrified… if he wasn’t strong enough to protect himself that is. Could he beat manners into this officer before Anna called the cops? Would that be enough time?

None of that really mattered since he could hear some scrabbling behind him which made him think she took his silent direction and had gotten out of dodge, quickly followed by the officer bouncing as well. Green eyes narrowed in the direction the lieutenant took off in, he was following his path with aura sensing but he wouldn’t put it past the kid to double back or something else stupid. It wasn’t until the baby officer’s aura was nearly gone that Hav turned and quickly made his way after Anna.

He hesitated at the park’s exit, watching as she walked away. Should he say something? What would he even say? After a moment he decided it was best not to say anything and just stuck to the shadows, making sure she got back to her apartment okay. He also made a mental note to see her some time soon to make sure she had a stun gun and some pepper spray at least… and maybe a few other things just for protection of course.
