The breakfast had been cleaned up, and Damaris was looking out the window, trying to figure out what kind of birds were outside.
Honestly, it didn’t really matter what kind of birds they were…they were alive and that was the very best part about them.
Her nose was pressed up against the glass and her breath kept fogging it up a little. They were beautiful. One was a bright blue, and the other had a red stomach…they were making noises, and while the one sounded a little…
…Well. Bad, the other’s song was sweet!
Bird song was one of the things that Damaris missed, more than she had really realized but…having it again…was simply wonderful.
When both of the twittering feather covered creatures had flown away, she made her way to go and find Mary once again, and when she did, she flopped down into the nearest chair.
“I forgot how wonderful birds are, Mary…I used to have such pretty ones up on Magion…what kinds of birds do you like?”
She watched her friend with wide, sparkling eyes, eager for the answer.

Mary looked up from her phone where she looking up white noise machines and smiled at her. "I've never really thought about it, but I do find penguins to be adorable," she said. Damaris would have no idea what a penguin was, so she pulled up picture of an emperor penguin to show her.
"They don't fly, and I don't think they sing, but they waddle about and are great swimmers." Mary shifted back in her chair and looked back at her phone as she hit purchase on a white noise machine.
"So, what do you want to do today? she asked as she set down her phone.

Damaris looked at the penguin and her eyes grew wide. “They’re so...tall round! And sleek! I can see how they’d be a good swimmer!” She wondered if there were any around here, and when Mary asked what she wanted to do, the response was almost automatic. “Can we see one? Mary can we swim with some? I’m a very good swimmer, it comes with being…me. I’m not like, super talented, but I know I could hold my own to swim with one of these…”
She gave Mary’s phone a fond look.
“Penguns. I know I could win a race if you set one up…do they speak?”
Swimming with a penguin was honestly the very best way that Damaris could think of to spend the day. Especially with her best friend Mary!

Damaris' amusement brought a wider grin to Mary's face and she chuckled. "Unfortunately, they're wild animals so the only way we can see one is to go to the zoo. You won't be able to swim with them, and besides, you'd probably freeze if you tried. They live at the north and south poles of the world." She took a drink of her tea.
"They don't speak... but there is an animated movie called Happy Feet where they sing and dance we could watch." It was a good way to spend the day, though the zoo would be a sort of all day entertainment. Would teach Damaris about most of Earth's creatures too.
... Would Damaris try to free them all though...

“Well…do they sing like the birds outside of your window here? What sort of noises do they make? I don’t believe that we had penguins up on Magion…do you have them where you’re from? Up on Bifrost?”
Now that she was thinking about it…she wanted to know.
“Can you tell me about your home? Or…wait, it isn’t your home…since you live…on Earth?”
She was a Knight…but didn’t Knights normally live on their Wonders? That was what she had heard…there had been no Knights of Magion, nor would they need to be! Her home was peaceful and fun and wonderful…
“What is…Chronos? I don’t believe I have heard of that either…I know very little about you Mary! Would you tell me more? And then…explain about…this Happy Feet…are your feet happy, Mary?”

Mary pulled up a video of some penguins on her phone to show Damaris.
"They sort of... squawk I guess? Whatever you'd describe as this sound, haha" she said with a chuckle. At the mention of the Bifrost, she frowned a little.
"No, I mostly have some moths and smaller insects? The Surrounding and the Bifrost aren't really big enough for a lot of life." Mary idly scratched at her scars in thought.
"It's not my home in the same regard Magion is for you. I was born here, I consider this my home. That said, I did make the Bifrost my home for a year or so. I wasn't in a great place and it was..." She pulled her legs up under her, looking down at her tea for a moment. "I wasn't in a good place at the time and... used it to run away from my problems."
No need to bury Damaris in her long since gone love life and her stupidity with it.
"Princess Chronos is a senshi, and leader of the Zodiac senshi that are tasked with protecting the Surrounding. The Surrounding is supposed to act as the barrier between the Sol System and the rest of space. I don't think it's really worked as intended since the Zodiacs were reborn on Earth. Even less so as several of them have gone missing," she shrugged. Part of her struggle as a knight the last several years was due to the fact that the Zodiacs just up and vanished, as did Chronos' handmaidens and most of the Chronos knights. They all vanished, Caedus appeared and the Valencians could arrive on earth, then Lyndin exploded a damn asteroid. And now senshi from deep space were coming here.
There was a reason her mooto was sort of 'I will hold the line'.
"My feet are currently happy! Happy Feet is the title of a movie... like, a story but with moving pictures. There's not much to tell about me, honestly! I've been a knight since I was sixteen, my family on my grams side were Chronos knights in the time of hte Silver Millenium, and my parents are dead?"

Damaris listened raptly and nodded, though when Mary talked about running away from her problems…and seemed…so sad suddenly…
Reaching out, she took hold of Mary’s hand. “I am sorry that you’ve had problems…and I’m sorry that you lived alone. I hated being alone…I understand, Mary.” Squeezing her hand, she listened to the rest of the story and swallowed. “Can I see it? Would you take me to see your Bifrost? Can we go today? And then..see the Happy Feet?”
She was still holding her friends hand and then gave a small smile, her eyes growing bright. “Mine are dead too! We have very much in common…not…good things! But very many things!’

Mary smiled and patted her hand. "It's alright, Damaris. I'm alright being alone to be honest." She didn't need people around her to survive to be honest, not in the way Damaris seemed to. People were... complicated and those complications usually ended in being hurt. She had the scars to prove it.
"Of course I can take you to the Bifrost, and show you the Surrounding. We should be able to go today; I don't have anything else to do, Then yes, we can watch Happy Feet." Mary stood from her chair and held out a hand.
"I usually go up there from a secluded part of the garden. Habit from when Grams didn't know, but it sort of... symbolic, I guess."

“All right!” Damaris stood and once more took hold of Mary’s hand, squeezing it again. Just because her friend said she was all right with being alone…didn’t mean it was true. And now that Damaris was here….neither of them were alone, and that…that was just…so good.
“Let’s go! Lead the way and show me the Bifrost! I won’t leave your side, Mary! I promise!”
Her words were gleeful, and true. She didn’t want to leave her friend's side if she could help it.
Plus! When they got back, both of their feet would be happy!
