Dark Mirror senshi existed in Destiny City, and the auras created by their Chaos felt different from that of Negaverse senshi and their broken Knights. This was about all that Corvina knew about them. He was certain that he’d felt their presence before—the cool, smoky feel of their Chaotic auras, as opposed to the knives and frozen darkness feeling that he got from Negaverse operatives—but they’d never stuck around long enough to be either observed or fought.
He’d heard about them from a few people (mostly Shuangxu) while trying to get accustomed to how things worked on Earth. Why anybody simply allowed Chaos to exist and thrive was beyond Corvina. Much in the same way that he thought the best way of handling the Negaverse was to storm into wherever they holed up, killing everyone who refused to purify (this was apparently what people on Earth called it when somebody chose to leave behind Chaos, through the power of a Royal Senshi, Royal Knight, or Cosmos herself), and slaughtering their parasite-queen so much that her next reincarnation would still feel it, the problem of the Dark Mirror Court seemed to have a stupidly easy solution.
Namely: break all the mirrors and reflective surfaces in Destiny City so that none of them could flit away from a fight and escape into their darkened Hell-world of mirrors or whatever. Then, offer them the choice of purification or death, and dispense their chosen fates accordingly. Maybe things were more complicated in that the Chaos of their Mirror-realm also needed to be dealt with, but……Corvina also didn’t know. He wasn’t rightly sure that Shuangxu knew, either (through no fault of his own, given that he was a Knight and not a Dark Mirror senshi).
Feeling Dark Mirror auras distracted him quite easily. It was a good thing he’d already handled the youma out in this particular city park, because Corvina immediately turned toward the direction where the Dark Mirror aura felt strongest. Moving toward whoever bore said aura, he made some effort to stay relatively out of sight……it just didn’t really mean anything when there weren’t very many trees around here, and the ones that did exist were all slimmer than Corvina. Still, he didn’t know what the Dark Mirror senshi he’d found would do, and Shuangxu would be upset if Corvina came home too messed up. So, peering at her and her flouncy fuku from behind a rather short, slender tree that hid him exactly not at all, he considered just watching her.
Except that felt like doing nothing, which made his nerves itch.…… Starting a fight with her outright might’ve made the new Sonora show up to yell at him again, especially without reason, and Corvina likely couldn’t learn anything about what made Dark Mirror Chaos tick just from watching. So, he had to get her attention without it seeming like some kind of attack.…… Maybe food would work? Everybody needed to eat, last Corvina checked.
An apple came out of his subspace. When he threw it in the Mirror senshi’s direction, he tried not to hit her with it. Tried to get the arc correct so it would land at her feet instead of sailing past her.

Leona had been trying…trying to ignore the White Moon aura that was near by…and she was doing a good job, at least she thought! Carefully, she was acting like she didn’t feel it, or that it didn’t matter, and she was idly drifting towards the nearby mirror to just slip into and vanish into the night…
Of course. Everything was moot when something came flying out of the sky and hit her right on the top of the head.
Without really thinking, the Senshi reacted. “Shifting Cold!”
Her hand was flung towards the…oh god.
The tall Senshi and she felt herself tremble slightly. But. It was fine! After all he had thrown the first…punch? The first…
Her eyes flickered towards the…apple that was near the base of the tree next to her. “...You threw an apple at me?” Her voice was…confused, but she swiftly forced it down, hoping that he wouldn't start to throw punches now that she had all out attacked.amorremanet Shifting Cold Leona says her attack and holds her hands out towards an opponent, and a blast of cold air comes from her hands. When the attack hits an opponent, they feel very cold, and the ground beneath them shakes and may crack slightly, throwing them off balance. The cold lasts for thirty seconds, and the shaking for twenty. She can hit two opponents, at a range of ten feet. The attack can be used twice.

For a brief moment after he threw the apple, Corvina felt eager! And positive! Like he had really done a good thing and now, everything would be going quite well! He would get to learn more things about how this insane century worked and he would not start a fight he didn’t want to start and make people yell at him!!
And then the apple hit the senshi in the head.
Corvina did not much wince at other people’s pain. It had happened to them, and unless they were Shuangxu or possibly a friend, it mattered little and less to Corvina that they were in pain. But he hadn’t meant to hit the Mirror senshi in the head with the apple! And even before she flung her hand his way, he knew this was going to be bad.
He did not anticipate how bad it would be.
First, the cold slammed into Corvina, hitting him as hard as if it had actually punched him. Hitting with the force of an entire winter on his own world. Corvinate winters were not for the faint-hearted, and even with the enhanced power of a senshi behind him, Corvina wouldn’t have tried to face such a winter without adequate preparation and gear. So, getting hit with all that cold at once got Corvina well off his guard.
Shivering so hard it hurt, Corvina was ill-prepared for the ground to start shaking. When it did, he didn’t didn’t keep his balance very long. Briefly, he thought he might stay on his feet. But instead, he toppled down and back, crashing to the ground with all the grace and elegance of a giant brick slamming into someone’s face at two-hundred miles per hour.
“Don’t you Mirror freaks eat,” Corvina barely managed to yelp at the senshi who’d attacked him. “Or does your weird Mirror Chaos make it so you don’t need food?”

Wait, what?” Confused was an understatement, and one of the many things that Leona was feeling right then and there, but she couldn’t…quite wrap her head around his words.
“You…you threw the apple to…give me something to eat?”
It sounded stupid said out loud, at least to her own ears, and she was…somewhat relieved at that. She hadn’t been wrong to attack, his…intentions were really…not presented well. Still. If he hadn’t meant to start a fight. Hadn’t meant to hit her…she should at least…
“Ah…” Her arm extended, and she wanted to offer to help him up…but he was…
He was a large person and…
Well. She…wasn’t. “I…I’m sorry that I just reacted but…next time you want to try to give food to someone…maybe hand it to them? Apples bruise really easily and I hadn’t…realized you were throwing it…I thought you were attacking.”
Finally her hand opened and she grimaced. “I don’t know if I can help you up, but. I’m here to try if you need assistance.”

“Sharing food,” Corvina bit out between the horrendous shivers. “That’s a thing people do, right? ……And trying to get your attention. Some people in this city react like you did just from talking to them.”
Apologies came to Corvina only with great struggle (and recently, only when coaxed out of him by Lanting). So, it was hard to say that he was feeling sorry as he looked up at the Mirror senshi, listening to her as well as he could manage while waiting for her magic to run out and stop making everything feel so damn cold. But he didn’t feel good about hitting her with the apple either, or about how upset she was with him over that.
“Didn’t mean to hit you,” Corvina admitted, slouching and openly pouting (though Corvina never would have admitted that he was pouting). “Just thought……the food would be a sign that I didn’t want to fight. And then it hit you instead.” The pouting intensified as he added, “We didn’t have Chaos senshi of any kind on my world. I’ve heard a little, but don’t trust the source of a lot of it. So, I just wanted to see what you Mirror senshi are like for myself.”
He left out the explanation of why he didn’t trust the new Murikabushi. That part wasn’t important.

“It is a thing that people do, yeah…but.” Leona gave a sigh of relief when her magic faded. “It’s normally done a bit more gently…and with both parties knowing what’s going on.” She thought for a moment and then reached into subspace, pulling out a small bag of candy she had gotten from work. It was mostly made of broken pieces and the bulbous end of the roll, but still.
If he wanted to share food, she wasn’t going to be rude. Again.
“Here! I work at a candy shop, and this is some that we made today. It’s…I mean, It’s not the best looking but, it still tastes good. If you like candy. I’d break the big piece or just be careful with it, it’s the end of the log? Like…we make faces and pictures in the candy but there’s always an end piece that’s just. Comical and I get to take them home most of the time!”
She was far more relaxed talking about candy. It was easy to talk about candy. “Are you going to be okay? My magic doesn't linger, at least…and as for the Mirror Senshi….we’re just…like you. Only better outfits, I think. I’m a fan of the sheer stuff!”

The magic fading out earned a sigh of relief out of Corvina. Part of him wanted to flop over, so overwhelmed with relief to just not be cold. He might have indulged in that impulse, had he and the Mirror senshi not been in the middle of a public space where the Worse Chaos-Slaves—those freaks from the so-called “Negaverse”—could have taken advantage of a moment of weakness. Wouldn’t end this encounter with the Mirror senshi in a better place than where they’d gone, only for some Negaverse senshi or one of their broken Knight-knockoffs to intrude and ruin things.
He took the candy she offered carefully. His hands were bigger than hers and the bag seemed quite delicate. Damaging a gift wouldn’t have been a very good way for things to go. “It’s different from what we had where I’m from, but interesting,” he said. “My home-world used to have all kinds of fruit. People would do things like cooking it in honey to preserve it, or dipping it in this sweet syrup, then putting it on ice so the syrup hardened into something crunchy. Whatever your different techniques, it looks like you’re probably very good at them?”
Not that Corvina would’ve actually known. But the candies in the bag were colorful and their designs seemed intricate, like the sort of thing that required skill to make. So, the Mirror senshi was probably quite talented.
In the spirit of honoring her gift with one of his own, Corvina got one of the other apples out of his own subspace and held it out for her to take. “………Thank you,” he said.

“That sounds super tasty!” Leona grinned and then her expression softened when he held out the apple. “Thank you. It looks delicious.”
She took the apple from him and then shrugged. “I’m Leona. It’s nice to meet you. Maybe if we cross paths again, I could show you a little more about what we Mirror Senshi do? I have my own place, it’s called my realm and like…it’s pretty cool!”
It was a lie. It wasn’t cool yet but. It would be. She just had to keep getting crystals and then it would be cool indeed.
“I’d love to have you over if you ever want to. I’ll bring you some good candy too, not just my scraps!”
…Maybe she could make some of that fancy Tiktok tanghulu for him as well…that was what it sounded like he was talking about. She could do it. It woudln’t be too difficult. At least she wouldn’t burn herself like some of the idiots did.

“I’m Corvina,” he told her, nodding along with what she had to say. This sounded like a good plan. Learning about Mirror senshi from someone other than a brazen hussy who acted like he knew everything when his home-world wasn’t even a Koronis asteroid and he didn’t ever tell Corvina why he should’ve been trusted as an authority on anything. Not tonight, it sounded like she needed to recover after everything, and that was fair. Corvina likely needed to get home soon, too.
“It’s nice to meet you, too.” That was the way that Earthlings did this “introducing oneself to people” thing, right? Somebody said that meeting you was nice and you repeated it back to them?
“And I would like to see your realm sometime.” He’d never heard of a realm in a way that sounded so official like this, the way that Order senshi spoke of their home-worlds and Knights spoke of their Wonders? Only in a more general sense. But……the thought of Chaos producing something of its own instead of simply taking from others until they died—it was very interesting. It didn’t line up with what Corvina knew at all, since he’d only known Chaos as a force of mindless destruction, and he wanted to understand what was going on with it. “I would offer to show you my home-world, but……it’s not safe right now. It probably won’t be for a while.”
Maybe especially not for a Chaos-empowered senshi. Corvina had no actual basis for thinking so, but it seemed logical to him that the Chaos that had infested his home-world might get territorial about another Chaotic presence showing up on the world. Leona might have been in terrible danger for doing nothing other than existing.
But Corvina felt alright to stand now, so with a deep breath, he pushed himself back up to his feet. Looking down at her was a bit of an adjustment, but necessary, given the discrepancy between their heights. “Be safe tonight,” he said. “The Negaverse’s people are always up to something.”
And what did he know? He wouldn’t have put it past them to come after a Mirror senshi who wasn’t even doing anything. That sounded like exactly the sort of thing they would have done (never mind that Corvina had also come after Negaverse people for doing absolutely nothing beyond existing and he absolutely would again).

Leona blinked and looked up. “Holy s**t you’re tall. That sounds good, Yeah. You might have to duck a little–a lot but we’ll make it work! I’ll find a really big mirror for you to come through…”
There had to be extra large ones somewhere for strange cases like this. “You be safe too…” Though…she was pretty sure he could just step on whoever he wanted to beat and that would do anyone in. Anway. “Enjoy the candy, and yes please! I would love to go to your place someday too! When it’s safe. We’ll swap experiences! I love it.”
She gave another grin and a small little wave, keeping the apple close, and then chuckled. “Bye now!”
One last wave, and she scampered through the mirror that was safely hidden in the bushes.
