Targovishte was still slightly cautious when she returned to the city, clutching her staff in her hands when she landed back on the building she had left from.
With a sigh, she jumped off the rooftop, and landed right in front of a very tall–very muscled, very pretty...pink woman in a skirt with a tail.
“Holy cow! You’re strong, aren’t you pretty lady!”
It was a personified Louisa from Encanto, and she took a step backwards, taking in everything. “Can you lift everything? Gosh. I’m Targovishte! Squire of Jupiter...and who might you be?”
Tonight had been long. There had been a lot of fear, a lot of feelings…a lot of everything, but…
This pink giantess made it all worth it.

Patrolling alone was a good way to avoid causing problems when Shuangxu was busy “streaming.”
Not that Corvina entirely understood what “streaming” meant except for knowing that it somehow involved Shuangxu’s computer setup, and that he fought with others in his warrior games that worked over the Internet thing, which was so called despite the appalling and befuddling lack of nets. More to the point, Shuangxu needed at least some degree of quiet while he was working, and Corvina being around might distract him. Might throw him off at a crucial moment and end up costing him one of his warrior game matches.
Dishonoring Shuangxu in such a way would have been unforgivable, and so Corvina had gone out on his own again.
He took these “patrols” very seriously, in his own opinion. But he supposed that letting himself breathe for a moment after taking out one of the Negaverse’s youma beasts couldn’t hurt. Leaning against the brick wall of an alley—somewhat near the university, maybe? Corvina still had much to learn of reading signs and things around here, with their language that looked a lot like random scribbles instead of actual words, but that felt like a good guess—he pulled a “ziploc” bag of the “pretzel” snacks out of his subspace.
Corvina didn’t think much of the other Order-aligned aura that cropped up on his senses, at first. A super senshi or a Squire, probably no trouble for him. Even when the Squire in question landed in front of him, with her long, black hair and her windsock, Corvina was content to leave her be. She was a fellow soldier against the forces of Chaos, and worthy of respect until proven otherwise.
And then it seemed she was talking to him?
Except she was saying things that made no sense?
Corvina’s ears drooped slightly as he tilted his head at her, matching his bemused expression. “I can’t lift everything,” he admitted, too caught off-guard by the Squire to puff up his chest and talk up his own strength as would have been proper for a warrior. “My home-world had mountains too great for anyone to move. After my Awakening, my tutors had me try to teach me that, however strong a senshi is, they are just as mortal and just as fallible as anyone else.”
There was another misconception in what Squire Targovishte of Jupiter had said that probably deserved to be cleared up. “And……if it’s important, I am no lady,” Corvina told her as gently as he ever told anyone anything. Being cruel didn’t feel right. Targovishte had no doubt worked hard to attain her Squire’s power, so she deserved respect as a fellow warrior, and these gendered things seemed very important on Earth in a way that they hadn’t been on Corvina. “The women and ladies of my home-world were formidable warriors in their own rights, though?”

“Oh! s**t!” Targovishte felt her cheeks heating up as she misgendered this…well.
Not a giantess...but simply a very pretty giant.
“Please accept my apology! I just assumed, you have fantastic hair, and your skin is such a lovely shade! It’s lovely to meet you, I bet that they were formidable warriors if they were anything like you!”
She held her hand out, pleased that he didn’t seem to angry but…also… “If you ever wanted to show off just how much you can lift…and this is me asking for a favor before I even know your name, but my Wonder…is a mess. It’s a huge ruin, or at least I thought it was…I found things underground…and if you would ever want to spend a day helping me clean and move rocks…I’d be extremely appreciative.”

Corvina blinked at the Squire—Targovishte, right, he should remember her name, that was a polite thing to do when talking to people—but still didn’t entirely feel like he understood what was going on between them?
“Well…… I accept the apology? If it makes you feel better,” he said, being careful as he reached out to take her hand. This was an Earthling custom, apparently, the shaking of each other’s hands on a first meeting. Still, Corvina’s hand was somewhat bigger than Targovishte’s, and he didn’t want to unwittingly harm a potential ally. “But I also wasn’t insulted or anything? So I didn’t really think you needed to apologize?”
This was “being nice,” right? The thing that Sonora had yelled at him for not doing? The thing that Lanting seemed to really want him to try? Even though it felt deeply weird and sort of uncomfortable to try and provide comfort without telling someone that they had fought valiantly. To say nothing of the fact that she was apologizing in the first place, something that had generally speaking not happened much in Corvina’s life previously.
Maybe Lanting was right about people on Earth having different idea about how apologies worked. And about them not simply being glorified exercises in humiliation for the apologizing party or whatever. Was Corvina gonna have to learn how to do this more often to survive on this planet?
“You should know yourself that women are fierce warriors, noble in spirit, and deserving of respect,” he pointed out, his tone as close to gentle as Corvina ever got. “After all, you’re a woman and a Knight of Jupiter, one of the highest possible Knightly callings. Not everyone who attends the……” He paused, pursing his lips over the mix-up of past and present tense. “Attended. In the past. Not everyone who attended the Knight Academy was deemed worthy of appointment to a Wonder on Jupiter. Which is not what happens anymore, because the Knight Academy is gone.”
Which seemed like a loss that more people should’ve been upset about, but if they simply didn’t know, Corvina supposed they couldn’t understand what they were missing.
As for Targovishte’s offer…… He’d probably need to talk to Lanting ahead of time, but given how much Lanting seemed to value him “getting out more” and “meeting people,” Corvina didn’t think he would struggle to convince Lanting that helping Targovishte with her Wonder was a worthwhile endeavor. So, he nodded. “And it would be an honor to assist you with your Wonder. Whatever mess there is, I can help with.”

Targovishte grinned at the large Senshi. “Cool! I’ll be in contact with you, and…ah! You say such flattering things, I love it.” Honestly, he could very easily fit into the safe male category along with Belmont, and she liked the thought. Especially if she was going to have him help clean her wonder a bit…it would be good to trust him.
“Thank you. And again, I’m sorry for confusing you for with…well. For just being confused, but hey! If you ever do meet any pretty women that look like they could have been from your planet, or you just think I would like…I absolutely wouldn’t mind you playing wingman and helping a girl out! I’ll do the same for you if you have a type of person you’re looking for.”
Grinning, Targovishte winked, and honestly…hoped that he would understand what she was saying. It was…a lot, and if he wasn’t…native…well.
It might be confusing. Still, he seemed to have a good grip of all things Earth…so far as she could see.

Corvina nodded and shrugged at the apology, still largely befuddled about what had happened on Earth in the past thousand years to make people like giving these out so much, even if they had theoretically messed something up. But……okay, Corvina supposed that this was happening. It didn’t mean anything about someone’s strength or lack thereof anymore, apparently. It was just a………thing that people did.
“A lot of things are confusing right now,” Corvina conceded. “Or they’re very new and I’m not used to them yet. At least it was easily cleared up with you.”
The suggestion about helping Targovishte with something other than her Wonder posed a problem that Corvina hadn’t encountered before. Pretty much everyone he’d met on Earth so far had already known in some capacity about his world being infested with Chaos and his people all being dead. It only seemed right to tell Targovishte, in case she hadn’t met another senshi like Corvina before. But on the other hand, people also tended to get upset when Corvina told them about what had happened to his world, to his people, to his life. Even though they hadn’t known Corvina’s world or any of his people.
Maybe it would be okay to just……not bring that up right now? Save Targovishte the potential pain? And save Corvina himself from the awkwardness of being handed someone else’s sadness over his own loss and understanding nothing of what to do with it?
“I already have my person,” he said. “I waited a thousand years and expected nothing good, but his reincarnation would have me. Still, I would gladly assist you with finding your own person, if the opportunity arises, and……?” Considering all the things Corvina did not know or understand about life on this world, perhaps this might be a good exchange? “If there are Earthen traditions that one does for one’s lover, could I ask for assistance? So much of life on this world is so different from what I’m used to……”
……He would need to talk to a Mauvian about getting one of those “senshi phone” things that other senshi had, in order to keep in touch with her better. Assuming signet rings still worked as they had a thousand years ago, Targovishte would be able to write to him, but Corvina could not respond without a phone, he didn’t think. But he and Lanting already knew that Corvina needed to talk to a Mauvian, they just……hadn’t done it yet.

“Oh!” Targovishte wore a small smile, feeling…almost like laughing at the whole phrasing of ‘I’ve already have my person’. It was…terribly cute, and honestly, well. She wasn’t jealous...but at the same time, she kind of was.
“If you ever I mean. Yeah that. I wouldn’t mind. I’m not sure what I’m really looking for in a person but…all help is good help.”
The laugh that bubbled up from her chest was quickly squelched. “Well…I think maybe I should head off, but…I hope we get to meet again. You’re…something special, and I hope that we get to be friends in the future, and like,”
Her face was burning and she shook her head, turning away. “I’ll be in touch! I’ll send you some letters but!”
Putting a hand over her face, Targovishte sighed. “Enjoy your person. I’m so glad you get to be happy.” There was no real…bitterness, but. It was clear that there could have been, if she had wished it.
