Sadie was enjoying this. She had a wonderful time in the club, had met a cute girl and was now being walked home by said cute girl. It was just…perfect. The way a night should be.
What wasn’t perfect was the rustling in the bushes nearby and the strange sound of something that seemed to being dragged across the sidewalk.
At first she just tried to ignore it. Maybe it was a rabbit or a piece of trash that was being blown along in the wind…but when Sadie finally drew in a breath and glanced behind them…it wasn’t something simple like that. Because why would it be? This was Destiny City and that was absolutely a youma.
A large almost round shape with spikes protruding from every inch…like some gnarly land puffer fish with a tail like that of a small alligator, dragging behind it.
“...Well s**t. Zenner, looks like we’ll be dealing with a different kind of monster…I suppose it’s better than some kind of a creepy man but…maybe we should hurry our pace a bit?”
Or maybe she could get Zenner to leave…to hide. And then Sadie could take care of the damn thing and they could just continue on their way. “Or if…if you want to go and hide? I can handle it, I bet…”

Zenner was initially caught off guard by the rustling in the bushes so she didn’t see the little wooden cat until she tripped on it. Her bad leg buckled under her and she landed hard with the small trinket under her back. “********?…” she muttered, pulling the toy out from underneath her. As she did, she felt a sensation rush over her body that felt like goosebumps and when she looked down at herself she saw that her clothes had changed. She was wearing a brown long sleeved dress with green leggings and tall brown boots. She was momentarily distracted by the strange symbols on the hem of her dress until she heard a noise and looked up to see Sadie facing off against some……thing? Some type of creature she’d never seen before. She got to her feet and took a fighting stance, though she wasn’t quite sure how she would even begin to fight this thing. “Sadie? Do you know what this is? What’s going on?”

For a moment, Sadie simply stared at Zenner, and then flashbacks to her own clumsy awakening came to her mind and she laughed. “Yeah. I have a pretty good idea of what’s going on, basically…the short story is that now you can help me fight this thing.”
She hesitated only a moment and then drew her own power around her, the small staff with her owl windsock appearing in her hands. “Basically…you’ve just joined the war that exists in this city, and you’re a Jupiter Page…just like I used to be. We can discuss the finer points after this thing is dead, but…hey, you picked a great person to have this happen with.”
…not that Zenner had a choice in the matter but…still.
Shrugging, Targovishte shifted to face the youma. “Get up, and we’ll take care of this together. Easy peasy.”

Zenner looked around and tried to make sense of the monster that’s in front of her. “War? Jupiter? What?!” Sadie didn’t seem afraid or unsure or hesitant or anything that made any sort of sense with this…..thing in front of them. “Look, I know this isn’t the best time to talk or anything, but i don’t know how to do any of this weird…magical bullshit. Where did you get that?” She asked, pointing at Sadie’s staff. As she spoke, she realized something Sadie said. “Wait, you used to be? So this happened to you too? What’s happening right now?”

“It has, don’t worry. It’s a very big change, and it’s difficult to figure things out, but you won’t be alone in this. I have friends and I’ve helped others get used to things when they had to deal with this. It’s…a lot, and the staff is my weapon! Just like…”
She glanced at Zenner and chuckled. “Your little cat is yours, but…hold that thought. Let’s just get rid of the issue and then we’ll be on our way and I can explain literally everything.”
Moving towards the youma, Targovishte brought her staff down with all of the strength that she could muster, grinning. “Are you good at kicking things, Zen? If you are, pretend it’s a ball!”

Zenner thought her head was going to explode with everything she was seeing, but there would be time for questions later. She looked over the cat, wondering how the cat could be a weapon, but she shrugged and decided to figure that out later. She ran up to the monster in front of them and just started hitting and kicking it the best that she could. “Funny you mention kicking.” She said between blows. “That used to be my main thing before my knee got ********. How am I supposed to fight this thing with a ******** cat?”

“The same way I used to have to fight with a normal windsock. It didn’t even match my outfit…being a Page sucked...but. Things get better if you stick with it. I promise.”
Targovishte wasn’t sure what she meant by her knee getting ********, but hse figured that she should step in and try to help, and so, with as much grace and strength she could muster, she thrust her staff into the youma and gave a pleased sigh when the creature turned to dust.
“There we go. Easy peasy, right? Good job.” Running a hand through her hair to push it back, she grinned at the new Jupiter Page. “...So…tell me…what’s your name? Not like, your real name…your name in this getup. If you concentrate and just…focus on it…you’ll…kind of hear it? Or just know it? It’s wild.”

Zenner just looked at Sadie in awe when the creature disintegrated. She seemed proficient with the staff and she looked like she knew what she was doing. Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad if she had Sadie to talk to about all of this. She concentrated as hard as she could on her name and a new one popped into her head. “Kronoberg? Is that right? That’s a weird name but I guess that tracks for me.” She said with a laugh. “Maybe we should take this off the streets? I don’t want us to get attacked again. How far are we from your place?”

“Not far at all, honestly…here, just think of you...of Zenner, and you’ll turn back into Zenner. You’re right though, I’m not really thinking straight.” With a grin, Targovishte closed her eyes and focused, and a moment later, Sadie stood where the Squire had been. “Easy peasy, then we can get to my place and you can fire off all of the questions that I see building behind your eyes.”
She laughed, and couldn’t help herself…but it was true. This was a lot...and she was glad that Zenner…that Kronoberg hadn’t had to do this alone. It was always so much better when you started off with someone there to help. It made things so much easier.
