Quote: The Meteor Shower (3) : It wouldn’t be a star festival without a meteor shower! Right on time, a beautiful array of shooting stars graces the night sky. This time of year is unnaturally clear and it’s incredibly easy to see the stars. Most meteor fragments appear to be little white or yellow lights streaming across the sky, but if you watch closely enough you may find that some of them seem to be a whole rainbow of colors. The scientists have reported that it’s just different components burning up as they enter the atmosphere, but there’s something undeniably magical about it. Elliot and Atticus spent a lot of time together but they didn’t often get to sneak away for just themselves. They’d been busy lately and it almost felt nonstop. School was out, though. Elliot wasn’t busy with any summer sports. The world wasn’t in any sort of immediate trouble.
So, they were going on a date.
A proper one, too.
They’d dressed up. Elliot brought flowers. They went to a museum, got dinner, went to see a movie.
They had a curfew–which was silly because he and Atticus were out far later when they were powered up, but he supposed it was his parents trying to give him a normal teenage experience.
Elliot held Atticus’ hand tightly in his own and swung it while they walked back to the house. They still had about half an hour before they ‘had to be home’ so he was making the most of it. They were taking the ‘scenic route’ through the park, which was really just the long way home. They came down here all the time so it’s not like there was much to see. Except–
“Oh, Atticus! Did you see that? There was a shooting star. Quick, make a wish.”

It had been such a nice day. Atticus was excited about spending time with Elliot. Yes, he loved spending time with their friends, but sometimes it seemed like they never got a chance to just be with each other any more. They lived right next to each other, but it still seemed so far away sometimes.
Atticus paused when Elliot spoke, and he looked up at the sky above and gasped. He’d heard there was supposed to be a meteor shower, but he hadn’t realized he would have time to actually see it.
He had to stop walking so he could close his eyes. He was glad Elliot had given him the flowers before they went out so he had time to put them in a vase, but it also meant that he could reach out and take hold of Elliot’s other hand.
“What are you wishing for?” he asked quietly with a shy little smile, knowing they probably weren’t supposed to share. “I’m kidding. You don’t have to tell me,” he promised. “It’s hard for me to make a wish when I have everything I want already. Oh… I guess that’s a little selfish though,” he laughed softly, sheepishly. Of course there were all of the wishes he could make about ending world hunger and and ending the war and all of that, but it didn’t really seem fair to put all of his hopes into a wish without actually doing anything about it.

“Oh, you think that’s selfish?” Elliot asked. The corner of his lip twitched into a smile, as it often did when he had something amusing he was only just barely keeping to himself.
He could have kept his wish secret, but what good would that do when he knew how to make it come true?
“I wished for a kiss. From you. Right on the lips.”
He didn’t have to tell Atticus what he was wishing for but he wanted to. He didn’t really have much that he wanted to wish for–nothing that could be so easily captured or granted by a shooting star. He’d probably wish for the happiness and health of his family and friends. For the magical war to stop. For things to be easier for the good people who needed a break.
It was a nice dream, but he didn’t think any shooting star could grant him those wishes. Even if he’d now seen a second, and third, since first looking up.
Atticus’ face was prettier than any shooting star, though. And Atticus could grant his wish right here and now.

Atticus was pretty sure his cheeks darkened a couple shades, but he also couldn’t fight back the smile even if he wanted to. He felt a little shy and giddy. He loved Elliot, and he still got butterflies in his stomach every time they flirted a little. Or a lot. Or not at all.
“Oh?” he tried to feign surprise, almost anxiously swinging their held hands out from their sides and back together. “Well, that works out because I was wishing you would wish for something like that.”
Of course he leaned up to kiss him. How could he not? Sure, he had to stand up a little on his tiptoes so he wouldn’t have to bend his neck too much. Elliot was just getting tall! He knew it was kind of shallow to think, but he kind of liked that Elliot was taller than him so he could press against his side easier. Oh and it would probably be easier for Elliot to carry him.
“I love you,” he mumbled against Elliot’s lips, leaning against him so he wouldn’t stumble while on his toes. “Thank you for tonight. And every night. It was really nice that it was just the two of us.”
Elliot was a lot more social than he was, and had a lot more friends and teammates, but Atticus did what he could to support him and be around. He just got overwhelmed easily, especially if he wasn’t able to be by Elliot’s side.

Naturally, as Atticus lifted himself up on his toes, Elliot leaned forward to meet him.
He’d taken his time with the kiss and even after Atticus had broken away to speak, Elliot still didn’t move away. He was spoiled, of course he expected they’d have another kiss or two or six before they started walking again.
“Yeah, I was thinking that too. I mean, I think our friends are great. I love spending time with them. And we’ve all been able to accomplish so much, I think? But I like spending time with just you. I don’t have to worry about too much PDA or saying something embarrassing in front of them.”
Not that Elliot ever really seemed to get embarrassed. He took everything in stride and was a good sport about all of it. For Atticus’ sake, he held himself back sometimes.
“I love you too, Atticus. I had a really good time with you. It’s nice to get to go out and actually see the whole world we’re protecting.”

Atticus couldn’t help but giggle with shy delight at how wonderful Elliot was to him. He still felt like he didn’t deserve all of the nice things he had now, but he also knew his heart wouldn’t be able to handle losing any of it.
“I hope they don’t feel too upset about it. I don’t know if I can stop myself from at least giving you a kiss or two while we’re together,” he admitted, this time pulling his hands away from Elliot’s so he could lift them to wrap around his neck. If he played a little with his hair, well, it was just easy when his hands were up high like that.
“I think we’re a really good team. With the others, too. And… I want to get stronger. Somehow. I don’t know if I’ll be able to be a good fighter, but I want my magic to get stronger at least.”
They didn’t know if they could always rely on special artifacts that just happened to be found in times of need.

Elliot wrapped his arms behind Atticus’ waist to help support him. Once more, he peppered his face with kisses.
“I don’t think they get too upset. We’re pretty good about it. Anyway, I just can’t help it either. It’ll be easier when it’s winter and we’re both wearing big coats. I’ll just pull mine up and we can kiss behind it and they won’t have to see. And you’ll hold on tightly so I don’t get cold,” he laughed.
Even if he was just teasing, it was certainly something he was probably actually considering.
“Do you have any plans for how to get your magic stronger? You don’t have to fight, I’ll fight for both of us. I know I’m in good hands with you, you keep me plenty safe and help put me back together if I get hurt. Even when it’s not because we’re fighting someone. Your magic, after I’ve run a race? You should get a gold medal for that, you’re the real MVP.”
