Under Construction (11) : Construction in Destiny City is a constant; it is never surprising to see buildings come and go. However, almost overnight it seems as though a large project has suddenly come to life. Where there was once an abandoned strip mall and a sad, trash laden park, the ground has now been completely bulldozed. There’s no information about this project available in any media outlets or online, and all attempts to research it result in dead ends. A large fence has been put up, but twelve feet of wire isn’t enough to keep out anyone curious enough to investigate. Cameras are set up all over the place and there is a strange, almost magical energy. The space is large enough to be a theme park. Strangely, frosted glass stars in an array of colors can be found randomly across the lot. Someone obviously has big plans for this space–already, some strange, fantastical buildings are going up. The space feels strangely large, and once you have jumped the fence it feels like Destiny City is a world away. The sky seems brighter and the city lights seem far away, almost as though there is some strange barrier separating the construction zone and the rest of the city. And, oddly enough, if you are standing outside the fence and looking into the construction zone, everything appears blurry and it's hard to make out the details. It’s strange, for sure–but nothing seems wrong about it. Yet.
Asuka had to admit, she was curious. The Weird Destiny City forums (and her Youtube comments) had been exploding, lately--there was a strange new construction project that had popped up out of nowhere, and no one seemed able to identify anything about it. It was exactly the sort of strange, unusual thing that she loved to investigate--and it was just so, so easy.
Sure, her experience poking into the weird forest path with Hela had sucked. Sure, she should probably bring backup. But no one had mentioned anything sinister going on with the construction--just that it was weird. And "weird" was common enough and, in Asuka's experience, pretty safe. Especially as a Senshi. She didn't need to worry, or at least--she didn't feel like she needed to worry. There was plenty to keep her safe, especially since she wouldn't actually be going in. Well, not going in very far, at least. No matter how tempting it was. That was way too dangerous--mostly because it was way more likely that there would be guards or whatever on an active construction site than on some random abandoned building.
So, she'd powered up, and made her way over to this strange site. And it was indeed very, very strange.
As she walked up, she spotted a pretty, rainbow charm laying on the ground--probably abandoned by some previous visitor, if she had to guess. Still, she picked up the opalescent Star Charm and happily tucked it into subspace. Finders keepers, and whatnot. Might as well enjoy some small souvenir from this experience, since it was probably going to be upsetting somehow. That seemed to be how things always worked in Destiny City--everything was somehow upsetting, even the nice things.
(Well. Okay. The meteor shower was nice. The meteor shower had not yet resulted in her getting attacked or shocked or just generally having a bad time. So that was good.)
As she walked the perimeter of the site, she spotted odd glass stars all over the ground. She itched to pick one up--but something stopped her. These would definitely be missed, she was pretty sure, and she wasn't willing to risk attracting unnecessary attention when she was already clearly somewhere she shouldn't be.
There were cameras everywhere, but that was one of the reasons that Asuka had come as Asuka, not Reiko.
And the thing was--she really hadn't meant to go in. But squinting from outside the fence, everything seemed...strange. Blurry. Hard to make out. And that was enough to pique her interest. She wasn't one to need contacts or anything like that, so strangely blurry vision--there was no normal explanation for that.
So, she vaulted over the fence, and found herself in what felt like another world.
It was so....amazing. Even knowing the rest of the city was just on the other side of the fence, Asuka was certain that this place was somewhere else entirely. There were more of the frosted glass stars, and the whole place seemed...ethereal.
But there wasn't much to see--just buildings and such under construction. Honestly, Asuka was just glad to confirm that this place was real. That there really was some strange project going on, here in the city--one that no one was reporting on and no one seemed to think was interesting.
She vaulted back over the fence. Best not to stay--there were too many cameras, and even with her real identity safe, Sailor Asuka didn't need to deal with the cops or stay powered up for a night in jail or whatever.
But this had certainly been an interesting evening.
