(Back dating to June 27th)

He couldn’t remember his opinion of doctors in the past, not that it mattered, but he’d agreed to letting Stitichite cheek on him every so often. Something about his health and making sure he wasn’t hiding injuries, maybe someone had seen the report on him going off a roof after a knight and thought he’d hide injuries as well? It was something he’d hide, considering Lorcan was one of three in the Negaverse who knew he suffered migraines as he did. He’d rather not be seen as weak or in some way lacking when compared to officers, even if it meant hobbling about with a broken leg he’d do that first before admitting to being needy or weak.

Thankfully he was in good health, only a few bruises from a recent run in with a knight - they hadn’t lived. If anything his cat did more damage, with those murder mittens they had, than most knights or senshi. Thankfully though he didn’t often hit his cat, by accident, when he was sleeping so the claw marks were few and far between…though he did have one on his wrist right now that was healing, though it itched like hell.

A week ago Kioshi had gotten brave and left a flash drive in the others mailbox with a note to watch the movie, he thought the other might appreciate it and the commentary humans and the idea of perfection. He’d sent him Repo! The Genetic Opera. But he’d also he’d included the information, as a file on the flash drive, for his audibles account. Remembering the others comment, awhile back, about yokai and not being familiar with them. He’d downloaded several books on his audibles account on yokai just for this - for Lorcan to read.

The fact it was his personal account meant he had other books as well, all his other books, he had a lot of history ones though there was no particular focus with those books. There were books on mythology and some books which dealt with the current global going ons as well. He prefered audio books over putting his reading glasses to good use.

Standing on the others doorstep he knocked, and waited, wondering if the other had looked at the flash drive and what he’d gotten to - what he thought.

It had been a busy week when it came to work but surprisingly it was quiet on the Negaverse front. Knocking on the wooden chess table just to avoid jinxing things, he had finally gotten back to his peaceful and well-organized schedule. Like clockwork, he’d gotten back to the few things he did outside his home that weren’t draining or patrol-related. It felt refreshing which was a new oddity to him because he hadn’t realized how much the strain of not having a schedule had bothered him.

One night, after coming back from a seminar he noticed something in his mailbox which was odd since he had cleared it of mail earlier in the day. It hadn’t been what he’d expected though he was a bit surprised at the new reading material in addition to a movie of sorts. Outside of the over-the-top musicality of it, he could see what they were talking about in their note. It wasn’t something he really intended to watch again but the books were something he’d put on in the background while working through his personal notes on a few things that were going on in his clinic.

The books of yokai were interesting, even if he would never really let on to most that he did in fact like those stories and folklore tales of creatures. Magic was still something he didn’t quite like but the older tales sometimes described things that just weren’t able to be explained back then and he would find himself wondering what mundane explanation might be good for most things.

One thing he’s found almost hilarious was the historical account of the Salem witch trials and it had him laugh when he’d seen it in the list of books. It was always interesting to hear different points of view on things he’d had familial records of but to see it in a senshi’s collection of books was on the nose almost.

He’d been near the end of it after a few days of listening when a knock came on the door. Face falling for a moment, he cringed at the thought that his week of peace was over and his cousin, the tart, or Aloysius were here due to some “work” related injury or illness. Standing up and moving away from the small chess table, he walked over to the door and turned the outdoor light on before opening it.

It wasn’t who he expected, not in the slightest, but from what he could tell they didn’t look bloodied so maybe the week of peace wasn’t over. Looking around them, checking for anything troublesome outside, he then sighed and rubbed his face a bit. “Is everything alright? I never expected you to show up here at this time of night.” Maybe they had tried to reach him through the tablet, which he hadn’t checked since he hadn’t powered up the past day or so.

“Come in, I was working on something while listening to a book.”

“You did mention wanting to see me for a check up and I work during the day. I assume this is some way of making me a patient of yours.” Plus he would prefer things private and not in a clinic, he wasn’t fond of spending time around people. If it wasn’t people staring, pointing or whispering than it was just the amount of noise some people made. He had little tolerance for people and managed it only when he had to, he didn’t like to go out and socialize really. He was certain most of it could be pegged on his parents, he just got that feeling.

“I don’t have a medical history I can provide though, Hisoka didn’t really leave me that. The only things he left me were the information about suffering migraines, which medication I was on for it, and that I have a sulfa allergy which would put me in the hospital.” Shrugging as he stepped in slowly, going right to removing his shoes and finding a place by the door to put them. Hisoka, by the way he spoke, had been his previous name…now it was Kioshi. The only thing Lorcan knew, till now, was the migraines and which medication he’d been taking for them. He’d not needed to tell him anything else.

“Should I assume it’s a book from my audibles account? I’ve noticed a few books being read - and I didn’t read them.” He wasn’t keeping track ,or spying in some manner, but he did his own reading and happen to notice things.

Listening and processing what they said, he offered a short nod. It wasn’t that he’d forgotten, it was more that he wasn’t sure if the corrupt would take up his offer. He felt for them, at least when it came to their medical condition as migraines were insufferable when he got the odd one but to have them frequently had been debilitating from what he’d seen the other time.

Heading to his kitchen he filled the electric kettle with water and flipped the switch to turn it on. “Tea? I have a lot of varieties due to a family member of mine.” Careful with what he let loose, he pulled down the one he knew he was going to use before motioning for them to look through the rest.

Considerate, good, very good. They’d left their shoes by the door and didn’t track anything into his home. He’d nearly flipped when René had tracked mud in a few weeks back after a rain storm. The mention of another name had him pausing until he remembered a bit from their first meeting when they’d let him know that they had set up a sort of need-to-know box of things for after they corrupted. It was a good plan, something that made sense when considering the randomness of what one lost when being corrupted. It was something he’d been reading about after meeting them, there were more than enough cases of it to run a study at this point. It was interesting at least but he could understand how it might prove difficult if someone had allergies or conditions they forgot about. Someone like Kioshi, who had a sulfa allergy, might find themselves dead or in an ER if they were lucky after something as simple as a routine round of antibiotics. It was a bit frustrating but it wasn’t something the individual could control.

“I can work from the ground up for a history, if possible an allergen test could be run if you were curious. Allergies can change over the years so it might be a good idea considering the situation you have. Otherwise, I think continuing what prior prescriptions and treatment plans you have through Arseno would be best.” Running through the list of things for a new patient, he was already planning for a schedule of things to get everything in order.

Looking over at the laptop near the chess table his brow furrowed as he wondered if they were looking into his habits or noticed how he burned through audiobooks like a wildfire through a dry forest. “Yes, something to listen to while I work on research. A doctor’s studying is never done, otherwise, they might as well lay down and die or stop practicing medicine.” It was something that bothered him when it came to the older doctors that he had worked under during his rotations, when they had gotten comfortable and he knew that procedures were being skipped and things had been slipping through the cracks.

“Tea would be perfect.” Following the other he took his time reading over the tins before pointing one out, unsure if the other would welcome him grabbing things for himself, some people didn’t like that sort of thing. Not to mention the other was big on hygienics much as he was. “Something light, close to a green tea.” He’d found something that looked good, it had some fruit notes, it would work well for him. “I’d rather be safe than sorry so an allergen test would be a good idea. I know Hisoka left me something to work with but he might not know everything either.” So he might as well do what he could to see if there was anything else hidden there in his blood.
“I know I’ve told you what I currently take for my migraines, though considering my jobs I still get them fairly often.” The medication did help, once taken, but the stress couldn’t be avoided really, it was far easier to avoid loud noises than it was stress.

Laughing at the others comments he found his lips twitching into a smile. “That I like, it’s the same for tattoo artists and piercers. Piercers have a convention every year with classes, to go over new techniques and to network with jewelry companies. Tattoo artists have conventions as well.” He was a professional but there was always more to learn, to refine, and to talk with others who were new and old - it helped. So he could certainly understand the others' words. “I just happened to notice though, while I was going through a book or two myself. I saw others being finished.”

“So how do we work on this history for me and anything to be done tonight? Or do you want to tell me what you thought of the books…or the movie?”
PostPosted: Fri Jul 05, 2024 9:01 pm

“Alright, I can do that. There’s cream, sugar, honey, or lemon to add to it if needed.” Pulling open what looked like a small breadbox revealed jars of most of the things he’d mentioned as he grabbed two cups down from the cabinet and added two spoonfuls of honey to his cup and setting the teabag beside it. He wouldn’t put it in until the water was added so that the bag wouldn’t stick to the honey at the bottom. A second spoon was set down on a spoon rest for the other as he turned to watch the kettle already almost nearing a boil. It had been something that his secretary had gotten him that first year he’d had his practice open and it proved reliable and efficient.

While he still didn’t quite have a positive opinion of the stereotypical type of people who got tattoos instead of spending their money on more stable things, he could get behind the sort of continuing education and hygiene that he’d heard were something this corrupt stood behind. “Seminars both live or online in my case with virtual or deceased patients in place of the living. It would be frowned upon for many reasons if things were done at a seminar on the living you see.” On top of how many rules and regulations it would violate for the individual and the practitioner.

“I can manage a history of sorts over time but I can work on just a baseline tonight and I have an idea of a schedule that I can go over with at some point after I check it against my own as well as your schedule. Some of them will have to be done during the day due to fasting rules as well as the normal circadian rhythm of most people. As for the movie…” Shaking his head a bit, he pressed a palm to his temple as he sighed.

“The theatrics were over the top as was the story and setting but I can see some things that bother me. The idea of purchased genetic perfection on top of the idea of leased or loaned organs goes against everything most doctors stand for.” Though he had little to say when it came to heavily handed genetic choices appearing in his own extended family. Whether it was by accident or not it was impossible not to notice how almost every member of his family was blonde and had some variation of blue eyes.

“The books though, I dabbled through a few historical ones and the two I saw about pharmacology. I try to keep up with the medical journals with my own account so anything outside of it tends to get lost beneath the monthly updates.” It had gotten to a point that he could no longer really scroll to the bottom in an agreeable amount of time. It was also good that he didn’t have to download things to hear them anymore otherwise he would have sent his harddrive to an early grave by now.

“No cream, small bit of sugar, and no need for honey. I’d rather have a slightly sweet natural flavor.” Most of the time he didn’t take any sugar in his tea but every so often he would, like now. “I can understand that, the need for confidentiality and all that, it would be impossible to keep to that if things were done live - not to mention so many people around with a surgery or something going on. It sounds not only old fashioned but dangerous for the person going under the knife.” Thinking of movies he’d seen where round or oval rooms had rowed seating with some sort of procedure being conducted in the middle of the room on the ground floor. People would watch and who knows what germs they might bring into the room, especially since those in the audience weren’t cleaned up as they should be.

“At least they keep things safer now than they used to be, not to mention confidential.” Which is what he liked about Lorcan as well as Tom. Both kept his secrets so no one else would know, but he had the safety of someone knowing about his migraines in case it ever took him by surprise on a mission or during a battle.

“I can take days off if needed, I’m not an apprentice anymore so I can take a day off if I have no one penciled in for an appointment.” Especially if he mentioned it was for a doctors appointment, that he had a new doctor taking him on, his boss would understand and both bother him over it. The only time they’d ever teased him was when it came to Kai; but that was no more and they knew it.

“It may go against everything doctors stand for but when business enters medicine…and when people's obsessions get to a certain point. It’s not something likely to ever happen, certainly not like the movie, but tell me it couldn’t happen in some simpler form. People go and get themselves in debt for cosmetic surgery and keep changing their appearance - never pleased with it. It’s a chase for something unattainable before it’s undefinable - perfection. I’d say I’m not much better, all things considered, but I’m not addicted and I’m not about to sink myself in debt over it.” He worked and planned, saved, and worked some more for the changes to himself he’d made.

“We both see two different sides of a human issue with a need to keep…changing and it is not only addictive, as has been proven, but where money can be made corruption will eventually enter.” It was a matter of time as far as he figured it. He was certain it was already creeping into his own industry. People going under in order to get massive tattoos done all at once - it was insane and dangerous and so many other things. It brought a lot to question as far as he was concerned. “I thought you might like the movie though - the message there.” The music and dramatics aside. There was a message…a very human one, one which was possible though not to such a degree. That was the funny thing…people looked at people like him, people like his co-workers, and they didn’t always think they were educated or could have such thoughts. He wasn’t some stupid kid…despite what he looked like.

“The pharmacology ones were to learn more about medications…like sulfa based medications. I’d rather know a bit more about my own issue so I’m not so blind.” He’d rather have a clue than just blindly follow others, even if they were professionals, it was stupid to blindly follow others along…you’d never know they were going to push you off a cliff till you were falling. No thank you.

“I hope you liked the historicals. You can keep reading whatever you want on my account, think of it as a library you have access to.” Going to measure a small amount of sugar for himself, very small, it went into his own tea cup as he stretched and took the time to look around. The place was bright, brighter than he liked, but it was simple which he could appreciate. It wasn't overly decorated or fancy - none of that unnecessary stuff cluttering the place. It somehow fit the other.

“Once the tea is ready we can start with whatever you want to get tonight for my file.” And they’d go from there. At least it was another step in his life…in being someone, having a medical history, it was something most people had…a telling of their life in some sense. A what they’d done and other things…and it was something he didn’t have. It was like he was just…here. But having never done anything.
PostPosted: Fri Jul 05, 2024 9:05 pm

“True true, things were different back then and not just in the field of medicine. I am sure your area of work had its own less than ideal beginnings as well?” Not that he knew much about it other than the few occasions that he’d seen piercings or other cosmetic modifications get infected leaving a person in the ER and then to the operating room in some cases.

“I prefer honey of sugar as a method of keeping a pollen allergy from cropping up though any additions to tea are up to the individual of course.” It was why he had other options for the odd occasion when he had a guest. Most of the time it was family but more often than not it was specifically Alexandre or Katya. Not that his cousin drank tea but they did at least bring more to him from time to time when they felt the need to try and apologized for throwing wrenches in the clockwork schedule of his life.

The mention of confidentiality did have the corner of his mouth coming up almost into a smile, more of an expression than was normally on his flat face when he wasn’t annoyed or exasperated. “Confidentiality, saftey, regulations, and procedure are all things I seek to uphold so I approve of anything that also encourages that nowadays.”

Hearing the kettle click, he moved and went about adding water to each cup without getting a single drop on the counter before setting the kettle back on its base. Adding the teabag to his cup, he swirled the spoon in it three times before tapping it on the edge of the cup before cleaning the spoon and setting it on the drying rack near the sink and washing his hands. Mentally he took note of the time and would take the bag out here in three minutes as per the instructions and toss it into the trash. “I do prefer history and non fiction books, I’ll keep that in mind though and I will avoid the things you are actively listening to so that there aren’t any hiccups in your progress.” He’d never dealt with sharing such a service before but he’d known that sometimes with René or Katya took to watching something here on his Netflix account they tended to mess with his lists and order of TV watching. Not that he watched much outside of documentaries but the fact they were messing with it irked him at times.

“You can follow me back to the examination room back here from last time. I won’t do any blood draws or anything tonight but I will keep what you said in mind and provide you a schedule as well. It may be easier to contact me via mundane means in this case, I can provide you my work email or cell phone though I will not hesitate to block any extraneous messages. I prefer my peace over social things.” It was something he didn’t really agree with when it came to his cousin even if he did go to family gatherings. That was a different matter because it was family but everyone else was more or less a bother most times.

Moving down the hall with his tea, he pulled down a small sanitary mat to set the cup on so that it wouldn’t get anything on the counter. There was enough space for them to set theirs down as well before he started with another round of handwashing and getting gloves on. A clipboard was pulled down from one cabinet then various kits with swaps and tests were pulled down as well before being set on another mat in an order that probably didn’t mean anything to the other.

His own tea bag found itself in the cup at about the same time as Lorcan’s bag went into his cup. A small stir or two of the spoon and he followed what the other did before moving to follow him. “I mean if we go back in tattoo history then yes, same for piercings even, the history for them was certainly not safe or sanitary. Thorns and wood sticks for tapping in the ink which was water and coal mixed, at least in some cases. It’s still done that way in some countries…stick and poke or tapping is what it’s referred to as. You have it done by monks in Thailand, I’ve seen them blow smoke over it and other things. It’s spiritual and magical for them. At least most of the monks now use proper needles that are sterile. I’ve seen others, in little villages, who use thorns and sticks still and ink made the old way…and the same thorn is used for everyone as well. Sanitation is not a thing.” And as much as having someone ink him in such an old, and traditional way, would mean a lot to him the sanitary part had him cringe so hard he couldn’t. He would absolutely lose it if someone tried to use the same thorn on him…and it can’t even be properly cleaned and just no - so many no’s.

“Piercings we now use autoclaves to clean everything and most are pierced with implant grade surgical stainless steel. If someone is stretching piercings they typically won’t put in anything bone, stone, horn or anything porous till it’s healed because porous things stick when the stretches are healing and letting out the usual fluids, like plasma. Not to mention germs get trapped in those materials as well so putting them in a fresh stretch is bad. Things we know now that in the beginning people didn’t know…they also didn’t have better things to use either.” All those improvements to things he was glad for - so very glad. And while he may have information dumped on the other he also knew they’d understand, see how things had gotten better, it was much healthier and safer and especially cleaner. The fact some modern piercers and tattoo artists still lacked such things…it angered and frustrated him greatly.

“I’ll also keep out of anything you’re reading. Once I’m done with something you can read it and I’ll read something once you’re done with it. I don’t mind sharing with someone who can appreciate the collection I have.” And it did seem the other appreciated it. He’d intended, and assumed, the other would only read the books on yokai and perhaps the two pharmacology books but they’d gone for other books - it was a surprise. He could appreciate it and didn’t mind sharing. Trailing behind the other a pace or two he watched them set their cup down, he continued to sip at his own, he watched what they brought down and finally he set his cup down as well.

“Let me know before you want blood so I can make sure I have something in my stomach. It’s never good on an empty stomach.”

“I’ve seen a bit about those older methods, rituals and things along those lines back then.” Sometimes related to witches or even just other cultures that may not have fit in with the local populations over the years. Traditions passed down or things carried on the skin, it wasn’t something he liked in the here and now but he could understand how it may have been important back then.

“Good to hear about non porus materials being used, bacteria in an open wound like that is asking for gangrene.” It was something he’d seen a few times, though not because of a piercing but it was something that sought out any opportunity that the conditions were right for.

“That will work then, I saw a few other things I may listen to in the future. It would be interesting to hear your opinion on things. I enjoy my cousin’s company dearly but I also know him too well and it has been refreshing to talk about new topics with someone different.” It wasn’t quite a compliment and that same flat expression he wore didn’t change much with eras he spoke but it had been something not unwelcome.

Motioning for them to sit on the table, he nudged his rolling stool with his leg to get it to move across the floor. “Most bloodwork will be fine but I will have you do a set with fasting though only for an eight hour window. I can give you a week’s notice if that is acceptable?” Enough to give them time to figure out a day off or to arrange if someone needed to drive them before or after. Everyone reacted to fasting differently and from what he could tell Kiyoshi was already on the thinner side so it might not go over as well but he’d watch carefully for any worrying signs.

“Yes, some of those old designs are still done but with modern machines. Some are done in the old method…sometimes just made safer. I’ve attended a conference with classes talking about various cultures that used tattoos as a way to show what the person achieved, rank and status. Some believe that it’s a sign of beauty while others state that it’s a way for them to be judged in the afterlife - to wear their achievements so the deities can see it.” There was a lot to it, even now there was reason behind many tattoos, there was a lot to the history of tattoos and even piercings. “Sometimes they were used to mark criminals, it’s why tattoos in Japan are still underground and you’ll be banned from beaches, spas and other places.” Same for other asian cultures actually. It had a history with organized crime and still had a reputation and wasn’t seen in the best light though it was changing, slowly, as many things changed over time. He took it as a good sign especially in asian culture where people were already pushed so hard to conform it was good that they were able to express themselves more, because conforming as much as asians often did was something which led to stress, depression and more. It meant people weren’t able to be themselves as much as they should. It was what led to counterculture…to the clothing choices in some areas in Japan…the need to break from the expected norms when they weren’t working or in school.

“Exactly, it’s why we suggest people never buy those sorts of items until things have healed. Or if they do buy them that they don’t use them till everything is safe and healed. We don’t need to be dealing with infections walking in, we get that enough anyway. People don’t clean things like they should, use the wrong things, or other piercers from other places botch things ….like piercing guns.” That last bit had him actually shudder - he had a thing against piercing guns…like he would like to scold every parent who got their children's ears done with those things. And everyone who did piercings with them…there was a place in hell for them - just them and their kind.

“I find the talks with you interesting as well, I would like to continue them. I don’t often talk with people outside of my own industry so to talk to someone else, even if it’s on non related topics, I find it worthwhile.” The other was serious and calm and logical he didn’t give to emotions and Kioshi could more than appreciate it. The other also didn’t look down on him for not having attended college, though it had never come up he figured it was likely obvious, and they didn’t look down on him for his career or his appearance. It was nice to see someone who was professional who didn’t talk down to him and had a level conversation with him…something he didn’t often get.

Taking a seat he nodded his head slowly, though he was already dreading the idea of eight hours of no food or anything. That was, for him, a long time. He didn’t often eat big meals but he ate many small meals or snack options. To go that long was…a lot to think about but he’d manage it, he was certain he could do it. “That’s fine, a notice of when to expect it. I’ll make sure I take the day off work then.” So he could make the appointment and not have to deal with the stress from work, or anything else.
PostPosted: Fri Jul 05, 2024 9:09 pm

“I see, I know there are conferences and seminars for most professions but I can’t say I thought about one for tattoos and piercings really.” Though now that he thought about it, it did make sense as it would be a way to talk about safety and techniques much as they were during medical conferences.

“While I don’t wholly agree with tattoos I also wouldn’t exactly say they define someone’s character either. Much as how clothes don’t define someone as much as I have seen someone believe.” Thinking of how things were during certain socials where clothing and connection was all that mattered even if someone was vile otherwise. Moving to take their blood pressure, he held a hand up to keep them from speaking for a moment as he took the measurement and wrote it down. It was a bit elevated but that made sense considering they had been at work earlier. Once that was done he put his hand down and went about gathering their temperature and pulse rate. Everything was within normal levels so far which was good but also not unexpected considering how active one was when out on patrol. There wasn’t much room for laziness in the Negaverse and he appreciated that.

“I would be fine with that, as long as it doesn’t interrupt my work day at the clinic. I believe it would benefit us both as well if we went on patrols together. I can look out for signs of an oncoming migraine and you can assist in feeling out those signatures I can’t quite notice yet. It’s mutually beneficial and would keep your health concerns out of the public eye as it were.” It also meant he could keep an eye on the senshi and learn a bit more about magic, as much as he still hated it all.

“That would be good, taking the day off before and after in case you take poorly to fasting. I usually have patients sit and have a snack or two afterward to avoid them passing out on the drive home.” He’d seen some of them drop as soon as they got up off the table or come down with a migraine. But he’d also seen people fine afterwards and go for a jog so it really was widely varied and he did his best to keep an eye out on everyone.

“That is a good part of conferences. It's also buying things, ink, jewelry, and talking to vendors who supply the industry. Then we have conventions where the public gets to go and purchase things and see artists. At conventions we also will do piercings and tattoos, there are competitions as well…those are bigger events.” And louder and more stressful but he’d been to them before, he had to, it was good to get his name out there as well as what he could do as far as tattooing.

“No, they don’t define a person but some people act as though they do. They won’t talk to someone who looks intimidating or has a lot of ink and work.” It caused issues for people like himself, and others who had even more done than he did. He could in some cases understand it, he really could, but some people didn’t even give a fair chance to modified people. At least here he had that and it was worth it, it was someone who was worth talking to.

“I work also, I’m not going to interrupt someone else's work day.” He could respect it, especially since he worked a lot. He didn’t take much time off or have free days really. If he wasn’t with an appointment he was hanging around waiting for any walk ins who might have an interest in what he could do. “Patrols would benefit us both, it wouldn’t hurt to have someone around incase I wind up getting hit with a migraine.” Though he really was hoping it wouldn’t happen again, he could do without that, it was more danger than even he wanted to deal with. “That last one is important for me. But I can certainly pick up on what you can’t sense and keep you safe.” Until they got stronger and could pick up those signatures, could better hold their own in a fight, but he didn’t mind helping even then.

“If you can set the appointment for later in the day, or even in private, I can work the day before…fast the day of the appointment and come right in. That way it’s less time off work for me.” Which would make things easier for himself, and his clients, since he might have to shift a few things around. He’d try and make it the easiest he could for everyone involved. He was certain Lorcan would understand.

“Interesting, there are pharmaceutical companies that sometimes do seminars but I take those with a grain of salt considering their marketing.” It was a minefield he hated navigating, something he wondered how that other corrupt he knew managed it all. Shaking his head he listened more about what they were saying.

“True and it can pose issues when hiring as well though it depends on the profession I assume. Even if I’m not bothered by it, I feel as if my patients might if my secretary or front of house person had modifications or ink.” Shrugging he knew it was more about the image of things which was why he let his secretary decorate and manage the design of the waiting room and most of the office. There hadn’t been any complaints so he saw no reason to change things.

Finishing up the other measurements, he leaned back and scribbled notes down on his clipboard that he’d type up later on this evening while listening to more of that audiobook he’d been listening to when they’d interrupted. “I’ve got everything I need for now and I can let you know via text what time would work best. I should send you a message regarding it before the end of the week and then, of course, it would be scheduled out a week or more after that to let you organize your schedule.”

Nodding at them mentioning keeping him safe, he almost laughed a bit at the thought that he was having a witch watching out for him. It felt wrong deep in his core but he also couldn’t really count them out considering how things had been so far. “It’s good to keep the medic safe because otherwise who is going to play damage control?” Raising an eyebrow as the hint of a smile came out, he then got up and went to remove his gloves and clean up before washing his hands.

Looking over his shoulder, this would be an interesting puzzle to solve and they were considerate of his time and schedule unlike everyone else. “Let me know if you have any other migraines between now and then as well, track when and where you felt symptoms and what you might have eaten or drank before them. It would be good to have that info and also being aware of things will help you navigate things a bit more on your own as well.” Give them the ability to help themselves as it were.

“Yes, it does cause issues in a lot of professions. It’s why most tattoo artists, at least those who I consider professional, won’t tattoo certain areas unless the client has a secure job or is already covered in ink. It’s not that we don’t want the work, or to even do the work, but we don’t like doing career killers on people. We don’t want to be the cause of someones job issues. The same goes for piercings, though less so I suppose, because I feel as if it’s not the piercings typically but rather the jewelry used.” Though there were certainly some piercings which would end a job, or cause someone to be denied one, and while he understood it he also didn’t like it.

Kioshi was one who liked the idea of expressing oneself so long as it didn’t hurt someone else…and modifications, piercings and tattoos didn’t hurt anyone else. They might bother someones feelings, make someone feel a bit unwell even looking at certain things, but it didn’t actually hurt someone else. But of course people liked to try and ban things and make them illegal which just drove things even more underground and made them even more unsafe.

Standing and stretching he watched the other, a bit more of a smile playing across his features. “I don’t envy you those conferences with pharmaceutical companies. It sounds like a** kissing to the companies who are fleecing the public, making medications too expensive but necessary for people to be on them. Insurance companies that may cover them…but not entirely. It seems like people's health and well being is being held hostage and the companies don’t care. I’ve heard some of the medications…all they do is tweek it a bit and put in for a new patent on the same medication that does the same thing. I’m not sure I have words for that.” It was corrupt and it harmed people, real people who had a real need.

Shaking his head, not wanting to go down that rabbit hole, Kioshi focused on the appointment he’d soon have with the other. “That sounds good, you have my number. I might take time to respond, depending on what I’m working on, but I will respond as soon as I’m able.” He preferred texting to phone calls, he wasn’t often able to answer his phone, but he could respond to a text as soon as he was free and between clients or on a break. Phone calls were something he almost never did unless he absolutely had to.
