You know she had been looking for a partner in crime, her brother was sweet and not quite the material she was looking for, though she loved him very much. She had big fish to fry in life and she would achieve her goals. She knew she would. First though, she required another familiar of her own.
Who should come walking up in search of a familiar but someone who happened to be her cousin. This was her first good look at the boy from the other side of the village. He had fantastic hair, she must say, attractive, yes she was proud that he was family, they had noble bloodlines she didn't care what anyone said.
Adopted or not he was her cousin, time to test his metal.
"After a familiar today perhaps? Me too." She eyed him up and down. "What are you after? Scales? Thrills? Teeths? Fur?" There were so many options and they had quite a bit.

He hadn't been here five minutes and someone else had appeared, a pretty prentice who was family no doubt from the haughty look of her.
"And who might you be bright eyes?" He asked. She was pushy, he would push back, there would be no one sided friendships or enemyships as the case may be. Something told him should it turn out that way the rivalry would be epic but he wanted to see if she was cool or not, If she was she might have a shot at his best friend so long as she wasn't too annoying.
He had been looking for a friend, and had come up short outside of his siblings. It was unfortunate and he needed some new ideas in his life. The same people every day would lead to mind stagnation and he wanted to be the smarted around so that no one could get the upper hand on him. It was a tactical decision. Also if his friends were powerful and terrifying all the better.

Oh? So he had a backbone then. Respectable. Her eyes cut through him. Related but not by blood strictly, he was also from a prestigeous and strong line. Perhaps..perhaps he was worthy of her friendship. She nodded her head and stepped to meet him, uncharacteristically offering her hand. "Seathra. And you from your description..must be Undine." She was sharp and always would be. He seemed to have above average intelligence and a personality. Excellent, she loved finding her people.
"Let us search for a critter for each of us then." She was ready to add another pet to her roster. She would need the practice for later she was sure. Today just might turn out interesting after all. There were other people looking for their critters and an attendant for each one for the most part, some had to wait. They however helped with chores and therefore made use of their familial bloodline back stage passes. "No need for anyone else, I know which ones are not ready, Daddy has been working with me."

"Hmm, I am not sure if I want something big or more companionable...flying or land lover...maybe water? I guess we will find out huh? I don't suppose you know what you are looking for?" He asked his cousin, he supossed that was technically what she was to him approximately...maybe second cousin? Something like that anyway. It was not important she was family and seemed to be sharp minded. Maybe just maybe he had a friend that wasn't a sibling for a change...if they got along. He had a temper probably from his Mama, he wondered if this girl did too. He was a bit jealous that she was older. Already a prentice from the proportions of her body.
Here he was still short but well as Dad said big surprises came in small pacakges. "On to the critters then, unless you want to stand here and talk all day." He waved her on. Watching her he was starting to realize how very similar they were. This was sort of exciting either way he was going to come out of today with a new best friend, better if he could make it two new best friends.

"We shall do the full tour then, no need for anyone else, I know who is trained and who isn't, your family are welcome to watch though if they are around." She supposed they were her family too come to that.
She waved him forward and started to walk. She had a feeling he didn't enjoy all the niceties of society like her. They had their place in getting her what she wanted sometimes but for the most part at this point she had little patience for it. She had a few specific goals in her life. Mostly outdoing her eldest sister. Her brother and other sister were fine, they were not much of a threat to her image in their father's eye, Kechiri however had been their father's favorite allegedly for so very long. Seathra would change that.
"First by the trees here are the radaku, a Jauhar special. Is there anything that catches your eye here?"

'Radaku, Jauhar..the gardener down the road from us has a bunch of these, apparently his male attracted a female from wherever she was and they had kids in the garden there." He could just as easily ask them for a pup, besides the ones he saw here were good but none of them had that spark for him. "I don't think my future partner is here, they all look great I am just looking for something I'm not sure I can describe adequatly with words." He sighed and said. "On to the next then?"
The next turned out to be perzi, which were cool as well, but he was looking for something a bit..well spicier. He wasn't sure overgrown cat was the best option for him. At least at this time...he might consider one later.
She didn't seem enthralled with the perzi either, though she had looked longer at the radaku than he had.

Well, so far no luck on jauhar medium and oba small. Perhaps their tastes were more aligned then she thought. "Your Dad is a tamer right? What are his specialties?" Perhaps starting there might be more effective. If tendancies were blood related with this kid at least. She smiled thinking of her own darling. It wasn't hard because Forest the keldari was napping in her skirt pocket, specially designed to hold him. He was so cute and she was never ever alone. But this time she figured it might be time for a bit bigger familiar. She grinned fiercely out in front, her companion could not see the feral smile.
She was after something with more teeth she felt, that was why she had paused at the radaku for so long, she had really been considering... but there were two that drew her more strongly and she couldn't help herself. They were just so desirable. Plus one never knew, a beak might not be so bad.

He put a hand behind his neck and rubbed it, somewhat embarassed. He supposed she had a ton of beast charmers in her family there was no need to feel uncomfortable.
"Well he specializes in snaptrotter, calls them his spirit animal for some reason. He does work with other critters, but he is best with Snaptrotters. He learned a lot from your Uncle Thallassa so I heard." Thal also specialized in snaptrotters, so it made a lot of sense.
"I just want something impressive, snuggly with big teeth that makes dummies think twice about teasing me or my older brother Ustasis." Everyone was protective over Ustasis. He was the only gentle omega type that they had. The rest were fiesty enough to solve their own problems. He didn't want anyone making mistakes with him, he was not as forgiving as his angelic older brother.

She had been right, they were sort of after the same thing really, something large and intimidating that loved them..or would over time. All the critters they were to chose from were already trained to some degree by her family or by other tamers so it was as safe for a prentice and a youngling as it could be. Nothing was every purely safe but they should have enough selection.
"Guess we can skip most of the others, though you look like you might be compatible with a sailscale so we will swing by their enclosure after our two heaviest hitters. Because Dad and Uncle Thal specialize in them, we have the best selection of snaptrotters and janarim comparable to the cream of the crop in Oba. We diversify and improve our bloodlines with new stock every chance we get. They were not above putting visitors critters to stud if they were allowed. Xarthin was now a founding father for a lineage of theirs. She dragged him up to the janarim fence.
"Just look at them arnt' they beautiful?!"

He took a deep inhale. This...this was the one. His eyes had fallen upon a young black and blue spotted bull, it was an adolescent but was starting to fill out gorgeously. Dad might be a snaptrotter expert but Undine had studied his other notes and new this was a good animal. A solid box like frame, good slope to the shoulder. A win no doubt.
"Him." He gasped/whispered. "Him." He approached the fence, wonder in his eyes. "I bet he could really go when hes full grown, strong, big frame, he is one for the legends to write about."
Undine was..a bit of a drama king but this male deserved so much more. "I will love him forever." He whispered. "Love at first sight." He muttered. Turning to Seathra, he hissed. "How much?" He would give his whole savings for this one animal. He swallowed. No room left there for a sailscale but he did not doubt he would have his paws busy with the one. The one that still stole his breath.

"Well that was abrupt." She smirked and wrote the ear tag number down on a pad. "Your father saw to his price, do not worry. I was not privy to the conversation but i was told any price. He is a fine young male, I am sure you two will be very happy together as partners."
She looked out over the janarim..but felt nothing..yet..perhaps..perhaps the snaptrotter pen would hold her new best friend.
"If you would accompany me after you have introduced yourself to him? I am not supposed to leave anyone unescorted for spicey nice reasons." He would understand. There were works of art and then there were works in progress. She learned everything she could from her family about beast charming. She knew it was what she wanted to do..at least so far. She still had time to chose..but she was pretty sure she would be a tamer. Though what her brother did was pretty cool too..tentacles and all. She belonged to a very talented family and they kept finding other talented people to make family. All to the better she thought. Strong bloodlines were always good.

With her permission he crawled through the fence and held out a hand for his chosen janarim to sniff. The beast did so and then cutely booped his hand as if he approved of this little creature with seemingly no fear like himself. He had been home rasied by this family and was approachable and friendly yet held himself already with proud bearing.
"What a mighty king of your kind you are, and you are young like me...tell me would you like to go on an adventure?" He whispered into the big ear which flicked as if attenuating to his voice already.
"I thought so." Undine placed a collar around the beasts neck, a dark murky teal that he thouhght suited him nicely. "Now they will know that I belong to you." He gently booped the already disturbingly broad snoot and bowed backing away to the fence. The janarim tilted his head as if to ask why leave so soon mr small?
"I'll be back, don't worry." He nodded to the beast hoping that the body language at least had gotten through. "You will see me by end of day and you will come with me."

He said his goodbyes to his new partner and they were off to the snaptrotter pens. Her heart started to pick up. "This was what I was hoping for." She muttered to herself, she knew she was a reptile person, her keldari proved that but none of this years present janarim sparked her fancy so instead of fire lizard she would see if water lizard fit the bill. Something in her heart said yes it did, even before she laid eyes on the biggest snaptrotter male she had ever seen. Her jaw literally dropped. Her Dad had brought in new trained candidates last second. Cunning old fox! He spoiled her so.
She shook her companion. "Look at him Undine! Look!" She was giddy with excitement, her eyes were big as dinner plates. "What a monster, oh he will be mine." She punctuated each word with a half ways gentle shake of her smaller cousins frame, he for his part did not seem to mind her dramatics, he too had a sister after all.

Well at least she understood now. It was indeed a huge snaptrotter. "I see it, I see it, no need to shake me, I don't produce salt that way." He shook her off and got a good look at the subject of her attention. A full grown bull, mean looking, but who knew he was a muddy greenish brownish color. One of the better looking beasts conformation wise and certainly a record breaker if he had ever seen one. He had looked at a lot of snaptrotters in his short life and he confirmed her quality check.
"A fine beast to be sure." Now could they go back to his janarim now? "Get your collar on him before someone snatches that trophy out from under you. He squinted. "Would that one be out of Myr perhaps? Or a descendant at least, we got a few of them years back, nice critters...sassy but hard workers. There was something about the shape of the jaw, the arch of the back and the zest for life that all of his descendants seemed to carry.

She did give him a bit of side eye at that and checked the beasts chart. Stunned, "You are right, he is a grandson, out of one of Dad's most stolid females. He does dabble in snaptrotter breeding sometimes, they cant' help themselves." She shook her head at the fallings of her family knowing full well that she fit the bill.
"Given a thought as to what you want to be when you grow up?" Her eyes glinted in the sun sharply. She knew her destiny as least so much as anyone could at any particular age. Could it be that her prospective partner in crime might also be one of them? A freshing, fledgling scalelet if you would? A beast charmer's beginning? He had the bloodlines, it could be, they needed a fresh new wave or who would take over the farm when the elders retired on? She tried very hard not to hold her breath and then busied herself collaring Diablo, as she immediately called him. He had the red eyes for it and everything.
