(Back dated to the 20th of June.)

She knew the danger this part of the city posed, especially to an outsider or someone like herself, she was confident in herself and in her ability to handle herself. She had magic and could teleport but she was still human, with human senses, if she didn’t notice something fast enough teleporting didn’t matter. Tonight that was being proven to her as she’d been caught by someone entering the house she’d stepped into, after dealing with the guy sitting by the door. She’d been knelt down calling for an ambulance, fingers on someone's neck keeping track of a weak pulse, when she’d been grabbed from behind.

Not only had she been grabbed but the ensuing fight had ended with a knife wound in her shoulder, a dead body, and an ambulance no doubt on the way along with the cops as the operator on the phone had certainly heard the fight.

A hand pressed into her shoulder to stem the blood, she was already feeling a bit lightheaded, as she pulled out her tablet and hoped the Lieutenant was around and able to help her. Calling out for them as she pulled herself up onto her feet, a bit of an awkward thing given her injuries which were not limited to a stab wound, and corrupt couldn’t help when her eyes went to the unconscious figure sprawled on a dirty couch. She had to hope help would come for them in time, and that she would be out of here by then.

Stichtite had been out on patrol, begrudgingly testing out the fact he could now teleport. As much as he hated it to his core, the fact he was using magic, he couldn’t argue with the fact it saved time and his time was always in short supply. The familiar ping from the tablet he kept in his bag, a simple mundane canvas one so he could avoid subspace for things he needed to have quickly. Not that subspace was slow but again it was magic and if he could keep things on his person, where he could touch it if needed, then he was going to do that as well.

Once he looked at the message, he checked the location ping versus his current location and found he was only a block away. Close enough that he decided just to book it down the block as he saw a glimpse of that long pink hair. It seemed that there weren’t any order signatures nearby so he didn’t bother with his weapons and just kept an eye out as he made his final approach.

He could smell blood before he saw it, something he was familiar with from work, and already started reaching for his bag. “Are you alright Valeria?” Walking around, he glanced over the downed civilian who also looked worse for wear but that wasn’t his purview right now.

She was glad for his arrival, quicker than she’d thought, even if he hadn’t verbally responded to her call this was even better - quicker. She could understand not giving a verbal answer when so close…and a Captain now - impressive and useful for them both it seemed.

“I could be worse given they had a knife and came up from behind.” Without her hearing them, meaning they’d been very good at keeping silent, there hadn’t been any noise in the damn house so she should have heard them. Someone likely spent a good part of their time being a thief…though she supposed they wouldn’t be stealing anything again. “I was keeping track of the person on the couch…their pulse is weak.” And she’d been focused on that, too focused perhaps, she wasn’t a doctor but she certainly knew how to take a pulse and she knew what was good and bad - theirs was bad.

“We need to move though, I have an ambulance on the way.” And while a starseed had been an option she had not taken it, hadn’t even considered it, she’d been busy with the figure which had attacked her and in the midst of the struggle she’d broken their neck. She didn’t think you could take a starseed from a dead body…otherwise every grave in the city would have been dug up by now - every body having donated their starseed to the cause.

Looking her over for a moment and taking in her words, he started going through the steps for what he needed to do as he pulled out the rest of what he needed from his first aid bag. Thinking for just one more moment though, as his fingers brushed against one more thing in his bag he looked up at her. “Do you know what they’ve overdosed on? I have Narcan but if you don’t know then it would be better to leave them for the ambulance. A weak pulse and breathing could mean that Narcan would work but…” It was an odd place they were in, where medical attention would save them but time wasn’t something the person lying on the couch had.

Shaking his head, he reached over to check their pulse and breathing just in case. Keeping the time in his head as he went, it was slow and weak but not as bad as it could be. “How far out do you think they might be? They should be okay for another ten minutes, even if their pulse is weak it is stable still.” Standing back up, he looked at the blood pooling between her fingers.

“I can fix that up a bit, as best as possible for something in the field. Probably better than most others.” Internally cringing as the memory of his cousin's scars came to mind.

“I don’t know, white powder could be a lot of things and while there is powder dusting the table it doesn’t mean that’s what they took either.” There were a lot of options and if it was cocaine it wouldn’t work, she knew that, it was why Valeria called an ambulance, they could figure it out once they got to a hospital. “They’re unconscious so I can’t ask either. We can try and see if it does anything…” They didn’t have time, she knew that, time was a precious thing for someone in that state.

“Hopefully no more than ten minutes. We can keep close by if we need to…just in case.” She should be treated, she knew it, but they also needed to make sure this person was ok in the end as well.

“That would be good if you could fix me up, we can work here, if that’s alright, as we can keep an eye on them till we hear sirens and teleport out then? In case they don’t arrive and we need to use the Narcan to see if it helps.” They could give a few minutes, to see if help arrived, and if not then they were here to try and use what they could on the person. She’d have to purchase Narcan herself to carry about, something she should have done but hadn’t. A mistake on her part she supposed. “Do what you need to for me and I’ll keep checking their pulse.”

“That’s alright, just keep an eye on them. I’d rather not dose them if we don’t know, it wouldn’t do any good.” Already going ahead with things, he tore just a bit more of their uniform to get a good look at the wound and went about cleaning it and making sure there wasn’t anything in there that shouldn’t be.

Working quickly, while keeping a feel out for any signatures, Stichtite dabbed antiseptic on things with one hand as he pulled out butterfly tape for now. He’d to proper stitches and wound treatment after they moved but he needed the small edges to not tear any more given it was on a place that moved and had a strain.

“I’ve done some mild prep work, but the rest we will handle shortly. It’s not something I’d like to do in a place where I have to worry about that getting in a wound.” Eyeing the white powder that was covering most surfaces in the house, he really didn’t need that getting into their bloodstream.

Hearing the faint sound of sirens, he grabbed her other shoulder gently and got ready to move. “I’ll be bringing you nearer to one of the clinics I work with, not inside of course because of cameras and security but at least somewhere cleaner where I can work.” To the nice park near his clinic where there were stone tables and benches to play chess on. There was a lot of coverage from the weeping willows that were a back drop on things and he could use that to his advantage for the moment while he worked.

The one good thing she supposed was that it was a thru and thru wound, even if it did hurt like hell with them cleaning it. Keeping a hand on the person, feeling for the pulse, Valeria was focused on that enough that the antiseptic being dabbed on didn’t bother her, went nearly unnoticed, as her head nodded once to his words. “Yeah, I don’t need to wind up high either.” Especially when there was no telling what it might be cut with, as it was without a doubt impure.

“That sounds good to me, thank you for the help.” She certainly appreciated the help from him, Valeria was glad she knew a doctor who was involved in this war so there was proper medical help. She didn’t have the level of training he had, or the type of training, she knew medications whereas he could handle injuries and the like.

“We should go, it seems like they’ll make it in time for this person.” With any luck they’d survive and perhaps even turn their life around.

“Then we’re in agreement.” Nodding and then teleporting them both to that park, he sat her down on the stone bench and went to work after rolling out his kit on one of the stone chess tables. Picking out what he needed, he cleaned his hands with sanitizer and pulled gloves on.

“It’ll hurt a bit because I don’t carry local anestethic on patrol, I apologize in advance.” It would be more than a bit but nothing as bad as it could be considering this wasn’t the worst thing he’d seen in comparison to his time working in an ER. Going slow and giving them time to take breaths as he paused, he was able to handle the wound with only five stitches.

Checking his work using a penlight, everything looked clean and clear enough that he was comfortable dabbing more anti septic around the freshly stitched wound. “Alright, it’s done. I’d avoid bathing but you can shower. Just be careful about rotating your shoulder or lifting heavy things.” Peeling the gloves off, he tossed them and the spent supplies in a small orangish red baggie that had a biohazard logo on it. He’d throw it out in his clinic in the proper recepticle later.

“Are you alright Valeria?”

“I’ll manage, I can get my hands on pain killers if I need it when I get home.” It paid to have a family full of doctors and nurses. If she needed to lay hands on some sort of pain killer it would be easy for her, she’d just explain what happened while leaving out where in the city she was, and tell them she’d had a doctor friend help her rather than bothering them. She’d avoid giving names and everything else; it wouldn’t be hard.

The needle, the stitches, it hurt like hell but she had expected it. While some officers were used to pain, could take it, she was not that sort of an officer. She had not been involved in enough battles, and taken enough injuries, to gain a higher pain tolerance. So she’d grit her teeth and found something, from pocket space, to bite down on in order to muffle herself at the first stitch.

Finally she nodded, a sweat had broken out over her while he’d been stitching her up, it took effort not lose her stomach or anything else. “I’ll keep that in mind…and I’ll be fine.” She’d teleport as close to home as she could before powering down and walking home. She’d manage some pain medication once home, she’d likely start with a good dose of ibuprofen and go from there as needed. “Thank you.”

“No blood thinners, so avoid asprin. Ibuprofen will be alright though. The stitches will dissolve on their own in a week or so. I figured that would be the best option for you.” Taking a seat on the other side of the chess table, he looked down at the board and mentally played through a few moves in his head out of habit.

“Stay for a bit longer if you can, just to make sure you’re feeling alright. You look a little green and I know it can be a bit difficult for some.” Saying things nonchalantly as he packed his supplies back up and into his bag. Offering a handkerchief, one of the standard issue ones he had in droves from gift sets he received over the years, he figured it might help her dab at the sweat on her face to make herself look a bit better for when she did go home. Any small thing to make those who might be waiting for her to worry less. It wasn’t something he had to deal with but he’d also been fairly lucky to avoid getting hurt during things as well.

“If you need me to check things later on to avoid your family members finding out let me know via the communication set. I can understand wanting to keep things discreet to avoid worrying them.” Even if he hadn’t experienced it, he’d seen it in Alexandre.

Well, it was also a blood thinner but she’d go for it because most did. Even dentists prescribed it after pulling teeth, it was common. “I was thinking of starting with that and working my way up, or going to something else, if I needed more relief than it could offer.” She could do what she needed to, lie as she needed even if she didn’t like it, she’d get what medication she might need. She just hoped she wouldn’t need anything other than what she could get over the counter, because she wasn’t much for taking medications unless she had to.

Taking the offered handkerchief she used it to wipe her forehead, and her cheeks, she pocketed it then. “That sounds good, if I see anything going on I’ll let you know.” Any sign of infection, or anything else, though she did doubt there would be any issue. He had taken care to keep it clean and she knew what to do as well, she didn’t need to be a doctor to know how to tend to such an injury once it was stitched up.

“I’ll stay here for a few more minutes but you can go if you need to. I’m grateful for the help tonight. If you need anything, ever, let me know.” Not a clue to what family he belonged to, how owing him something could be used, but she did owe him and offered to repay it if she could.

“That’s good, I’m sure you know the signs to look for but I always have to bring it up. Procedure and making sure of course.” That and he knew it was better to offer the help so that someone could avoid scars if possible. Anything to avoid others looking like they went through a meat grinder, something that vexed him more than most other things.

“I’ll take my leave then, but be careful on your way home. I hope that the evening ends well for that individual we were checking on as well.” It was a toss up but they’d at least survived until the ambulance had arrived. After that was out of both of their hands but he did feel it right to offer a bit of positivity towards things for her sake even if the odds were slim.

Waving slightly, he walked off a bit before telelporting a few blocks from his home. Powering down, he made sure he had his medical bag still. It was something that stuck around both civilian and powered sides of things since it wasn’t part of his uniform. He’d toss the bag of biohazard out before taking a shower and heading to bed so he could rest for the upcoming weekend.
