Quote: Heat Sick (9) : The temperature is unbearable. Heatwaves have made it impossible to enjoy some of these otherwise perfect days–and they seem to be having as much of an effect on the City as they are on the people. Strange tears are appearing throughout the city, as though something has clawed right through reality. Sometimes you can’t see them, but you can feel them–and the sweet relief of a cold gust of air billowing through the crack. The rifts mostly appear transparent but if you peek in at just the right angle you might see a terrifyingly dark realm. Sometimes items vanish near these weird tears, and sometimes people do as well. Items might be found thrown across the room or across town, or not at all. Thankfully, nobody seems to disappear for long; they always wake up unconscious somewhere else. Sometimes, they don’t remember anything except for a cold breeze. Sometimes they say they were stuck in a strange, dark realm where they heard monstrous wails and saw strange little imp-like creatures scurrying around them. Thankfully, they are ejected before harm can come to them, but the realm is frigid and frightening. Doctors are saying it’s heat exhaustion and that delusions and wandering are common, so they advise staying indoors and staying hydrated. Honestly, Nelson hadn’t realized just how bad the weather was going to be, and as he stumbled, trying to fan himself with a hand, he swayed slightly. It was hot. It was far too hot for existence, and while he only had a block or so to go, there was suddenly a burst of cool air and he paused, closing his eyes for a moment and then pressing on, shivering slightly as he saw something out of the corner of his eyes.
No. Absolutely not.
Hurrying to Juniper’s house, he opened the door with his key and slipped inside, panting and feeling far too overheated, sinking down to the floor, his back against the door.
He was dizzy. Hot. And he had seen…something out there…was it just the ramblings of a guilty conscience? Was he losing his mind?
He could be losing his mind. Nelson honestly had felt that way for the past year or so and just…
The blowing air vent on Juniper’s wall felt wonderful and he struggled to get his breath back, waiting for his boyfriend to notice he was here.

Juniper huffed, trying to pull what he could of his hair off his neck. It was, unfortunately, just a little bit to short for a ponytail, which meant that he still had to suffer with it sticking to the back of his neck. He sighed as he heard the door close, and a rather suspicious thud. Better go check if everything was okay... It was no surprise to him, to find his boyfriend slouched on the floor. Thorn was practically moved out at this point, so the only ones with the keys to the house were him and Nelson. "Hey you." He said, leaning against the wall, and almost regretting it instantly as it felt like he was sticking to the walls. Juniper stared for a moment before frowning. "What's wrong love? Is it one of those days? Or is it the heat today?" Juni walked over, gently wiping Nelson's bangs back. "Come on, I think Thorn left some hair ties and clips around here somewhere. Let's see what we can do about getting your hair tied back. Juni never thought he'd say it, but right now, he wished another freak snow storm would happen and trap them somewhere cool.

“It’s so hot.” Nelson muttered and gave a soft groan, opening his eyes halfway and looking at Juniper, wanting to smile but unable to make the effort. “And it’s not just hot…there were…”
Closing his eyes again, Nelson thought it through, not really wanting to admit that he was seeing things…it. Didn’t sound good. And if it was just a guilty conscience that was making him see and think things…that just…brought on more problems.
With a sigh he shifted slightly, leaning his head forwards and allowing his long hair to fall down, exposing some of the back of his neck.
“I kept…thinking like I was seeing something. It sounds so stupid but like.” He cut himself off and shrugged, shaking his head and keeping his eyes closed.
If he was seeing retribution. Was seeing Hell...Juniper didn’t need to be burdened with that.

"It is." Juniper agreed. "I don't know how you do it with all that hair of yours." He moved, sitting next to his boyfriend. "We can try to darken this place up, see if ittle be any cooler that way?" There was always swimming... But Juniper wasn't sure either of them wanted to deal with the sun beating down on them, even then.
Juniper snorted lightly, as he kept picking the stuck strands of hair off of his boyfriend. "It doesn't sound that stupid. We seem to be making a habit of getting iced into whatever building we're in during winter. We both know this city likes to mess with us." He shrugged, trying to think of ways to explain it. "...If it makes you feel better, we can chalk it up to heat exposure." Which, might be a valid reason. "We can wait till it cools down if you want, see if we can find what you saw. That way we know what we're dealing with."
He gently nudged Nelson. "Do you wanna try and stick your head under the shower and cool off? I can see what we've got in the freezer. Pretty we have somethings that we can make slushies with. Or, we can stay right here, under the vent."

“I normally like my hair…” Nelson mumbled and allowed Juniper to start playing with it. “...Maybe you could braid it up though?” That would feel nice. Maybe pin it to his head…if he could just get air on his neck...that would feel so good. And in reality, it was all that he really wanted but.
With a sigh, he opened his eyes again and looked at Juniper, expression seeming…somewhat lost. Confused.
Pained.
“I…” He swallowed and finally just plunged on, shaking his head. “I kept thinking I was seeing something. Like. When I was on my way here, there were these…strange like…cool spots? That sounds so stupid…but I kept seeing…I don’t know if they were demons or what…Juni…”
He chewed his lip and shook his head slightly. “Do you think. They’re going to just drag me to Hell? I’m pretty sure I deserve it if that’s the case…I…”
The words were coming slowly, painfully. “I still. Don’t know what to do to forgive myself…”
Honestly, he didn’t think that he would ever forgive himself.

Juniper nodded. "I'll put it up for you." It might not be the best braid, but at least it would be something. "It doesn't sound stupid, love. Hell, I have magic." He reminded Nelson. "You... You probably did see something. I don't know what you saw, but I'm willing to bet that you're not the only one who did." Juniper leaned over, resting his head on Nelson's shoulder, and lacing on of their hands together. Heat be damned. "No, baby. I don't think they're are. If they try, I will be there to stop them. And if I can't, well, we'll go together." Juniper squeezed their hands, before looking at Nelson. "You don't deserve it, Nelson. You did what you had to in order to survive." He couldn't blame Nelson for that. "That's... That's okay. We'll work on it yeah? I'm here for you."

Nelson nodded slowly and then just pressed himself up against Juniper. “...Yeah. Yeah I know you are. You’re the only thing keeping me…sane. And I appreciate you…”
He just wished…
Wished there was more that he could do…but right now?
…Right now…this was almost enough…and he was…well.
Almost content.
