The Fireflies (6) : In the warm summer nights, little glowing lights begin to bob and dart through the city. Fireflies are mating, so this isn't uncommon in itself; in the past few days you've probably seen hundreds of fireflies. What makes these lights so unique is that they seem to change color; you might see a blue one, a green one, a red one. They flicker randomly, and something just seems off with them. If you come into contact with one, you will find yourself with a strange electric jolt. They cannot be caught, and will flicker away if you pursue too aggressively. This isn’t the first time they’ve appeared in Destiny City, but no one’s been able to tell where they came from or where they’re going. No matter how quickly you chase them, they always seem to disappear before you can find any answers.
There was an absolute abundance of fireflies out this year in Destiny City, flashing their little lights to attract mates. Nausikaa loved them; she occasionally had some show up even on the balcony of her apartment, blinking in her container vegetable garden. Even some of the odd colored fireflies – the ones that turned up every year around Star Festival time, with blue or red or green or purple glows to them. She'd tried to get close to one of those, holding perfectly still while one bumbled itself closer to her, only to receive a nasty shock of electricity from it that left her arm numb and tingling.
So she carefully avoided them tonight in the park, happy just to watch them drift about and wink on and off around her. They still made her happy.
Walking through a cloud of fireflies, she held her arms out and grinned. She was enjoying herself this year – especially since joining the Dark Mirror Court. The way the energy of her new aura washed over her just felt right like nothing else had. Sure, she hadn't met many others – precious few, in fact – but that was most likely because the Dark Mirror Senshi were precious few in number, period. And they tended to keep to themselves, not seeking out conflict with either the White Moon or the Negaverse. Which was fine with her.
As she was contemplating this, an energy signature penetrated her mind, and she paused. Chaos… but of that peculiar flavor that the Dark Mirror bore. Exciting! Nausikaa followed the signature into the woods, pulling up her hood. "Hello?" she called softly. "Can you hear me? I'm sure you can feel me…"
