Firework Flowers (13) : A rare and unique breed of flowers that blossom into long, stiff-stamened, spherical orbs like those of the blossoming Powder-Puff flowers are on full display in Destiny City. A unique hybrid of several species, these plants were being engineered at a small landscaping company. While they were only meant to exist in their private greenhouse as they continued development, a simple accident resulted in thousands of seeds spreading across Destiny City. Thankfully, the Firework Flower is a beautiful, albeit temporary addition. The stems grow rapidly and look like tall blades of grass until the week before the flower blooms; the bulb is hardy and opens overnight to reveal the beautiful firework flower, which can be found in almost any color. However, unlike normal Powder-Puff flowers, when these flowers are jostled they explode in a burst of colors. Whether it is a simple touch or a strong breeze, these ‘Firework Flowers’ seem to burn up from the center of the flower outwards. It creates a beautiful display of light–especially at night. Scientists describe it as a harmless chemical reaction and encourage everyone to appreciate the flowers while they are here. The dust from an explosion can carry on the wind and will glow for a few hours after the reaction. The explosion cannot harm anyone and poses no danger to anyone.

He had been out running some last minute errands before heading home. Nothing special, nothing unusual. Just errands. General household needs like groceries and laundry. The never ending challenge of being an adult. A loop of perpetual work. He was too focused on his next stop so he hadn’t even thought much of it when one of the many people there for the star festival passed him one of the charms that were being handed out like candy. Simple little charms to celebrate the festival that brought so many people to the city. The little violet star charm was cute and all, the little tinkly bell a nice addition, but all he did was thank the person and pocket the trinket. He didn’t have a grand amount of time to get things done and chatting about the festival he hadn’t really gotten a chance to enjoy this year wasn’t something he could spare. He had a schedule to keep. People to see and places to be. The weekend was fast approaching and he wanted to get everything done so he could thoroughly enjoy his time off with his family. So his time was finite. As were the store’s operating hours, although some of them were open just a bit later for the festival so it did give him a bit of a breather to his schedule.

His tight schedule…. One that really didn’t have much room for any delays….

And yet Sig found himself staring down at a bunch of flowers that had pretty much ‘lured’ him to this spot in a park. He had been passing through when the flashes of color, but no real sound, had him powering up and going to investigate. He had been expecting some kids playing around with lights or toys, or at least something magical being tossed about since there were several he had seen that produced light, but what he stumbled upon was rather beyond his understanding. “Since when do flowers ‘explode’?” he asked absently, tapping one of the closest flowers with the end of his staff and watching as it burst out in a spectacular purple and gold sparkle. The entire clearing looked like it was covered in the puffy looking flowers, the colors ranging through the known rainbow. Not natural in any sense of the word but still very beautiful.

No danger, at least not visibly, just pretty flowers. “I wonder if they would survive picking?” He did know several people who might like the unnatural flowers. Then again he had learned over the last year that nothing was as it seemed. Could the glowing pollen cause issues? Were the flowers doing something nefarious? Just how dangerous was it for him to stand here and admire the potentially hazardous plants? That particular thought had him making a face and pulling out the burner phone and tossing a quick text out, this way there was at least someone who knew what he was doing. He even added a picture since the flowers really were quite beautiful. Danger and all.

"I don't think so," came a quiet, steady voice that was steadily approaching him, and Cepheus looked up from her DS and her game of Animal Crossing - closing it, tucking it away in a pocket, and leaning forward just to give some physical-visual sign she was communicating and aware and engaged in the conversation - as she adjusted her hat with one hand, coming to a halt about three feet away, feet firmly planted and deeply, fundamentally steady. This guy... she didn't think she knew him, but she'd been wrong before about this kind of thing; her memory for people had always been just atrociously bad. She'd seen him before? Maybe? At a group event? He was just familiar enough for that to be a possibility. If he said 'why don't you recognize me', then oh well, but that usually didn't happen. Usually.

This was not a 'never'. She had her response pretty scripted by now; people tended to be mollified when she explained no, it wasn't that she hadn't found them memorable, it was just that her memory was really bad and - more than anything else - hated retaining faces or names. She wasn't faceblind, not by a long shot, but Zinnia had become an expert at how to talk to people without mentioning she didn't remember their name even though she'd known them for a year and interacted with them regularly.

She was pretty certain she hadn't interacted with this guy regularly. She wasn't a hundred percent sure about it? But she was pretty certain.

"If you interact with them, they pretty much just explode. Even if you picked one safely, you'd have to move it. And you can't move it. Or I can't move it, anyway." She was very matter-of-fact about the whole thing, but she'd spent some time yesterday trying to figure out if there was a safe way to pick one of these firework flowers, and had come to the conclusion that some things just weren't meant to be. So it only made sense to pass on the information to someone else who was thinking out loud about the same sort of thing, didn't it? That much she was certain about.

It did kind of suck that they weren't pickable. She would've loved to have put one in her hair, or pressed it to see if the flower still glowed that way, but oh well.

(At no point did it cross Cepheus' mind to mention the flowers weren't dangerous, which might've been a good thing to discuss, but he hadn't asked about that part.)

“Well that sucks,” Sig muttered before his head whipped up and he spun around until he was facing the figure that had just talked to him. “Bloody hell! Where the hell did you come from?” The squire asked even as his heart continued to race. How had he missed her? Had he been so absorbed by the flowers that he missed the senshi? Was his aura sensing off again?

He hesitated a moment and tried to see if he really didn’t sense her but she was there. Bright and clearly order…. So what had happened? Or had he just been an idiot and missed her, like one of the other times he had forgotten to continually check for any chaotic auras.

She hadn't meant to surprise him, but his confusion was kind of funny, anyway? Cepheus giggled. "Over there," she said, and pointed off into a group of trees. "I walk fast." And she hadn't actually been Cepheus over there, she'd been Zinnia until about 75 seconds ago, maybe, but that didn't seem particularly important. Why were they talking about this, anyway? She wasn't sure why it mattered.

"They do just kind of explode if you do anything. It's pretty lame? Especially because they're so pretty, but they're way too fragile..."

really small tag, i figure the next post or two could be them squaring up for a spar sweatdrop

“Ah,” His response was lame but then again how did one pull off a ‘you scared the s**t out of me’ response in any way that wasn’t lame? Instead he just sighed and focused on the flowers, “Shame really. They do look very pretty.” The squire looked over at the senshi and absently frowned. “Odd question but why are you out here?”

Sig knew why he was out here but why exactly was the senshi? Had she sensed something or was she just patrolling… but if she had been patrolling then why did she just appear like that? He had so many questions.

"Why are you out here?" It wasn't an accusation, just flipping back the question on him. "It's usually quiet. And you get a good view of the sky at night."

She wasn't entirely blind to nuance, though. It didn't come too easily -- but Cepheus listened in on conversations, a lot of them, and she knew she generally came off as a little pathetic. Kind of a stuffed webkinz sort of senshi, or one of those antique lamb dolls. "It's... not a patrol thing. My sister is pretty insistent I don't do that on my own? But I can't really fight at all, and my magic isn't very good, so. I just thought," a gesture to his uniform, and then back to hers. I saw you were powered up, so I thought I should be too if I wanted to talk to you.

She really couldn't fight very well, and her magic really wasn't very useful most of the time. There wasn't too much good she could do like that, usually.

Smol post ^_^'

“I saw the lights,” He shrugged and tapped one of the flowers again, smiling when it set off a little sparkle of light. “Since I didn’t know what it was I figured best to be prepared.” Sig nodded, understanding. He knew just what it was like being the odd man out in this little ‘war’ of theirs. “I don’t suppose you know anything about fighting with a staff do you?” It was a long shot but maybe the senshi would have some ideas. Really, anything was better than the floundering he was currently doing.

There was only so much the internet could do and he hadn’t really found a class that catered to staff fighting. At least not without years of experience, something he did not have time for.

"Um. In theory?" Not that she knew a lot about it, but every now and again she'd had to look up some references for some fanart she'd been working on, and Anakeion had passed on some information just in case she ever tossed her weapon to Cepheus.

If Anakeion knew anything useful was another matter, but she'd been doing it for a while, so probably? Through mixing the internet, past-life memories, and just having been a Knight for years even after taking a hiatus that'd been forever long, it probably evened out to something useful.

"Anakeion has a quarterstaff, and she's taught me enough that I don't look stupid." Which was probably a lost cause. All of Cepheus' gracefulness was caught up in measured, planned movements, going through the motions in practice, not in thinking fast. "I could call her, if you want? She shouldn't be busy... but I can maybe check if your grip is okay?"

Im not much better on the timing >.<' and while its not great it should have it set up for them to actually 'attack' before the fade to black

“That would be bloody fantastic!” Sig perked up at the offer for a teacher, he even happily nodded when the senshi suggested checking his grip. “I really am working off of self training from the internet so any real assistance is very much appreciated.” He shifted his stance and grip on his staff the way he figured he should hold it and grinned, “I’m ready when you are.”

Cepheus, who was not particularly a tall or large girl by any stripe, pushed onto her tiptoes to get a better angled glance at Sigriya's grip - and then immediately regretted it because, oh, right, her proprioception was bad, and stumbling forward when she managed to trip on flat ground ended up meaning she threw out her hands with enough force she - there was no good way to put it - accidentally hit him in the face (thankfully, not too hard) with his own weapon.

"I'm so sorry." She looked like she wanted to melt into the ground.

Ok, that should be a Fin for Sig ^_^

Sig let out a gargled yelp as his staff was practically thrust into his own face, it was like a horribly predictable vaudeville movie. She stumbled, shoved his staff into him, he stumbled backwards, tripping over his own feet, and in the process the staff flew free of his grip as he tried to keep his balance but failed. The staff bounced off into the field of flowers after smacking the senshi, in some kind of karmic retaliation all its own, several flashes of colors from the flowers marking its resting place.

Sig’s own fall was just as colorful. The flowers burst into a riot of light and harmless sparks, it was both beautiful and surreal. Sig lay there blinking for a moment, trying to process the chaos of the last few seconds before just starting to laugh. “Dear lord, that was some Three Stooges type s**t,” He chuckled as he sat up rubbing his face even as he dusted himself off. “I think it might be safer for us both if I just pass you contact info for this Anakeion to help, or vice versa if you would rather. Otherwise we might end up hurting each other more trying to figure it out then one would during typical training.” He climbed to his feet still laughing, “The name is Sig, Sigiriya, by the way. Squire of Ida. Even if it seems like I am more of a Larry or Curly right now.”

The young man finally introduced himself, better late than never, just as some flashing red and blue lights in the distance broke through the tree cover. “I am assuming we shouldn’t stick around any too much longer,” He nodded towards the lights, noting the two flashlight lights bobbing through the darkness. He summoned his staff back before dismissing it entirely, it was an extra step but he felt better knowing he had it in hand before sending it away… to wherever it went.

"Have your friend reach out to me, I know senshi have their ways and if not just contact Maia, Antares, or even Ida, they can reach me as well." He figured the three strongest senshi he knew were good touchstones in the event they couldn't look him up on the senshi database or what ever they use. Sig eyed the flashlights coming ever closer. "We should go, besides I still have to get to the store." He just hoped they weren't already closed.

With that the squire booked it out of the area, doing his best not to set off any more flowers. It had been an interesting detour that was for sure. One he hoped would pay out in dividends if he was actually able to get some true training with his staff. But that would have to wait until later, for now he really did need to get to the store!

She just made a pathetic little noise under her breath that, had it been subtitled, would've been something along the lines of weh. In spirit, at least, if not in verbiage.

"I know what I'm doing," Cepheus said, "sometimes," but whatever she'd had going was completely deflated at this point. "Okay, though. I'll let her know." She pulled out her senshi phone to take notes, Sigiriya of Ida - was that the spelling? By the time she looked up from focusing on the screen, he was already gone.

Not her finest moment! ...Really not her finest moment. She was going to go home, lie down, and think about her life for a bit.
