The Destiny City Reservoir opened about two years ago and is an easy escape from the big city. It’s a five minute drive outside of the Eastern side of town and features clear water and sandy beaches--although, the sand here is notorious for squeaking when you step on it. It’s a hot spot for all fun summer activities, but it’s been in the news for mysterious reports of some strange, aquatic monster. Some accounts say they’ve spotted a twenty foot long, snake like creature capable of rearing a long neck high above the water. It’s hard to tell if the videos are doctored, but there are too many rumors to dismiss easily. Something strange might be lurking deep in the water. Or it’s just a hoax to get people out to the Reservoir!
But…Sometimes, people feel like something is grabbing their ankle, even if they are just wading in the shallow end. In the deeper parts of the water, it gets a little more intense: something has been said to grab onto ankles and pull. People have been warned about dangerous pranks, but so far no one has been caught. In the shallow end, anyone unfortunate enough to be targeted may feel themselves being knocked off their feet and tugged into the water; anyone in deep water may feel a firm grip on their ankle, tugging them lower and lower. Somehow, anyone it targets is freed--either by wriggling and fighting, or because someone intervenes and pulls the would-be victim up. No one has drowned in the lake. Yet. It's impossible to see who, or what, is doing this, but it usually gives up after one failed attempt. Usually.
While you may find yourself harassed by the supposed cryptid, or see something visibly odd in the distance, you cannot take any pictures of the creature. Who knows if you’re even being attacked by the cryptid–or just another youma?

Zoya looked around as her and Kata stepped out onto the sands of the reservoir. She looked interested when it squeaked as she stepped on it, “Well that’s a new one.” The teen said as she looked towards her sister who drove them there. It was a nice day for a break from the city and well since School was out for the summer it was even great to have a break from there too.
College life was difficult for her and well her sister was helping her the best they could manage to get through it.
Kata laughed lightly when the sand squeaked under their feet. “Oh man, I wasn’t expecting that!” She was looking very interested as she took the beach blankets and chairs so they could find a nice place to sit. “What do you want to do after we set up? We could swim, eat a snack, build a castle, or I’ve got a beach ball with us too.”
Zoya was looking at her older sister and sighed, “How about we just relax in the sun for a while?” She asked as they laid out the blankets. Zoya had made them both new swimsuits after having done extensive study on the types of fabrics and methods to making swim suits so she didn’t really want to test them right off at the reservoirs beach. They had however, worked fine at the local pool they went too so she didn’t know why she was worried.
Kata nodded, “Okay well you can chill out after we do this, I’ll go for a swim I think though.” It didn’t take long for the pair to have set up the blanket and beach chairs along with the cooler of drinks and snacks they brought. Of course, both of them had heard about the supposed dangers in the water but it didn’t seem like that big of a deal to them.
After all youma and the negaverse was wayyy worse than some sort of loch ness monster type thing that was hiding in the lake. She grabbed one of the lapras floaty rings she’d brought with them after having inflated it and headed towards the water.
Zoya paused as she watched her sister with the pokemon floaty, “You didn’t tell me you brought the pokemon!” She grabbed one of the others and after inflating it ran after her sister laughing, she’d snagged the psyduck floaty ring, “How far you do think is safe? That cryptid is supposed to be out here so we should probably be mindful. Don’t want to be swept under the water by that thing – and not to mention I don’t think it’s safe to power up as crowded as it is “
The youngest reminded her sister of the fact there were a ton of people around, powering up was fairly dangerous and probably not recommended since you never know who’s negaverse and who wasn’t. The water though, seemed to relax Zoya more as she felt the cool crisp water run over her feet and slowly as she started to wade in her worries were less and less.
”I know we can’t power up here.” Kata assured Zoya, “We shouldn’t need to. I still think it’s safe and that people just over react. It’s probably just fish or some type of lake seaweed. I highly doubt it’s actually some sort of lake monster or cryptid.”
She stretched as she entered the water and started wading to where the floaty would be able to hold her up and let her relax in it. She pulled herself onto the float where she was sitting legs draped over one side and back against the neck of the lapras. It was a nice day for just a chill relaxing at the reservoir. She was sure nothing crazy was going to happen. Though as she looked towards her sister, she thought she saw a shadow or something move in the water.
“Huh, that’s weir----D!” Kata yelped as something grabbed her ankle that was dangling in the water. Her sister hadn’t gotten out as far as she had yet. And suddenly she felt herself being snatched off the pool float. “Help!”
Zoya froze for a moment when she saw the shadow and her sister get snatched off the floaty, she couldn’t see what grabbed her sister with clarity but it totally snatched her. The youngest looked panicked and could hear bystanders chatter also with panic.
Zoya decided the best course of action as she watched her sister flail right before being dragged under the water was for her to go after the creature and her sister. While those on shore looked unsure and looked like a few phone calls were being made. “I got you!” She called as she dove under the water. Taking off after her sister and the mysterious cryptid.
Kata hadn’t been expecting to be the one snatched, she’d thought about what’d happened if her sister was snatched and now here she was, holding her breath and trying to struggle to get free as whatever had her ankle, was gripping it firmly enough it wouldn’t be just as easy as shaking it off and the way the water was it was difficult to see where she should aim a kick as wiggled and fought while being dragged down.
She saw Zoya swimming as fast as she could towards her and she pointed towards her leg to her sister and made a motion to try and ask her sister to pry the creature off.
Zoya nodded as she was still trying to catch up to her sister her hand was held out because catching up wasn’t working well. Maybe she could get Kata’s hand and help pull her towards the surface and it’d cause the creature to let go and retreat.
Kata seemed to understand as she reached out for the youngest’s outstretched hand and once they had a grip on each other Zoya started trying to swim the other way towards the surface of the water while holding onto Kata with all her strength.
Kata’s grip was very tight on her sister as she continued to try and kick the cryptid and help swim up towards the surface when suddenly she felt the grip on her ankle loosen considerably. Being under water felt like an eternity as one final kick and the creature let go. Both the sisters went straight for the surface, breaking out and Kata gasping for breath for a moment as she tried to calm down. “The actual ******** was that?”
Were the first words out of her mouth as she looked around hoping they wouldn’t get targeted again but waiting to take no chances she moved to grab one of the floats and go back to the shore. “Zoya come on.”
Once back on dry land she collapsed on the beach blanket they’d set out and looked towards the water.
Zoya joined her sister as she was looking for marks that could’ve been caused by the creature. “Are you okay?” She asked after only finding some red marks on her sister’s ankles.
“That was scary and I couldn’t see what had you beyond a shadow.” She admitted as she sat down beside her sister and leaned on her. “I don’t want to lose you too maybe we should’ve stuck to the pool.” She’d also taken the time to retrieve the other pool float they’d brought because she didn’t want to lose either Lapras or Psyduck.
”I-I’m fine I think. Just never thought it’d go after me.” She admitted looking at her little sister, “I was ready to fight it off of you if it grabbed you.”
Kata looked sheepish, “I should’ve realized it could’ve been either of us.”
Zoya nodded softly and sighed, "Yeah it could've been either of us." She placed her hands behind her to hold her up whilst they watched the water, there had been people checking on her sister and the authorities came over to ask questions. However, she paused when her hand had touched something behind her. Looking curiously she picked it up and was looking at it.
"Huh someone must've dropped this." There was a pause as she looked at the little crimson star charm. A note read hope this brings you better luck.
Kata looked behind her and found a gold star charm beside the crimson one her sister found, "Oh, they left me one too." She mused.
