Quote:
Path to Nowhere (14) : There are many parks in Destiny City, and if you’re willing to venture to the outskirts of the city you can find an incredibly vast forest system. It’s unlikely that anyone has explored every inch of the forest, but it’s still odd when a strange path into the forest suddenly appears in an area that you thought you knew pretty well. Where there was once just a wall of trees, now there is a faded wooden board with an old fashioned, thatched roof with a thick layer of moss. Pinned to the board, behind broken glass, is yellowed paper. The portrait of a woman wearing vintage clothes watches you with an eerie smile. A map used to be here; you can see where the corners are pinned, but someone has torn it out. A few dried flowers are pinned to the board. Someone has pinned a message that says ‘DO NOT ENTER’ and ‘DANGER’. The path is eerie but doesn’t appear dangerous otherwise. Dark shadows fill the space between the trees, and sometimes you can make out mushroom covered logs in the distance. Many flowers grow but they all appear half wilted or dying. The path winds on for what feels like forever once you are on it. If you’re lucky you can turn around and find your way out, but once you start walking, the path seems like it forever winds. You can walk until you collapse, or until you fall asleep. If you make it into the heart of the forest, you will find a giant tree with branches so heavy that they droop towards the ground, and a strange, bright-eyed owl that watches you from the branches. It’s too dark to see beyond that; regardless of the time of day it was when you entered, it always appears to be nighttime here. A slow breeze disrupts a sea of half-dead dandelions, and suddenly white wisps swirl around you and your vision fades. Whether you exhausted yourself trying to get out, or if you made it to the heart of the forest, you cannot escape the wave of sleep that falls upon you. When you wake up, you’ll be in your bed but you won’t remember how you got there. You can find the path again, if luck wills it, but all trips end up the same.

Had she been here before? Naeria squinted at the sign in front of her. Do Not Enter, it said, like many signs on Earth said. So many of the humans were very particular about what they thought was their property, what they thought was land that they owned. That sign did not surprise her.

The drawing did, though. She spent a lot of time in the woods, and it wasn't often that she saw depictions of humans posted on boards, much less depictions of people that looked like it was watching her. This one, though?

That had been a dream, hadn't it? She'd dreamed about this, and the striped senshi, and the rest.

Or maybe she hadn't. Maybe it had been something else. As a scientist, she had to get to the bottom of this. She stepped forwards, just past the sign.

Lacaille found herself at a strange sign with a dated-looking old lady imagine looking at her in a creepy manner it was like a creepy strange fairytale so she decided to ignore the warnings and go onto the path where she saw there was someone already on the path. She smiled and said "Hi are you checking out this strange path as well?" She asked curiously she didn't mind the company on this strange adventure. She wondered what was out there and what sights it might bring. She wasn't afraid she figured she could handle any weird that this city threw at her.

Naeria startled like the deer that she sometimes saw in these woods, jumping back before she turned to regard the stranger, the human, with her wide, yellow eyes.

It was a senshi. White Moon. A quick glance at the power tracking application on her ComTech confirmed that. In some ways, that was good. She didn't have to worry about being caught without her human glamour.

On the other hand, she did not always know if she could trust senshi more than she could trust other humans. Plenty of them were cruel to her people, too.

However, she saw no reason to lie to her.

"Yes," she said, her voice thin, cautious. "I am going to go this way."

She wanted to see if this place was real.

Lacaille didn't think anything strange about the figure she smiled and said "I'm Lacaille, if you want to travel together we can or we can just ignore each other if you are more comfortable with that, I think I am going to see where this path leads, I don't know if that's what you want to do but I think that is what I am going to do." She babbled a bit, she hoped she wouldn't upset them, but she would understand if they didn't want to talk to or travel with someone they had just met.

She was excited to see where this strange path might lead, and considering this city was so weird she figured it would lead her some where strange and weird like out of a story book. She was eager to find out one way or another. She didn't think it would disappoint her. She did hope it didn't turn out like the game board with all the monsters that had been terrible. She shivered thinking about that. Spiders so many spiders and dogs chasing her and board pieces falling out from under her. Nightmare fuel if there ever was one.

The senshi was smiling. She wasn't even staring too much at Naeria. That made it seem more likely that she was one of the kind humans.

"I will walk with you," she said. As she stepped past the sign and started down the path, although the drawing was no longer looking at her, for some reason it still almost seemed like something might be watching her.

In places like this, it was better not to be alone. That was what the humans advised for being in the woods in general, although Naeria often ignored that advice. This was different, though.

"Something is strange here," she said.

Lacaille nodded and smiled "Thank you for agreeing to come with me." She looked around "I will have to agree with you there." They started off and the path seemed to be going on forever. Which was not what Lacaille was hoping for in an adventure. She had extra strength from being a senshi but shish this was a lot. She looked behind them and she didn't know if going back would do any good at this point. She leaned again a tree and looked around at the dead plants all around them. "Yea this is really creepy." She sighed "I was hoping to see something cool and mysterious, not just walk on a path that goes on forever."

There were mushrooms on some fallen logs around them, but for once, Naeria did not turn her attention to them. She was wary, bolt upright, looking at the shadows that seemed like they were longer than they should have been this early in the day.

The plants, too, were wrong.

"Something is killing things here," she said, her voice quieter.

She also found that she was tiring quickly. Just walking here took energy out of her with each and every step. She kept walking anyway, though. There was something mysterious here, and she was determined to find out what it was.

Lacaille agreed "Yes I think you are right, I don't know what this place is but it certainly its a fairytale forest." She forced herself onward till they got to the heart of the forest with her walking friend but after all that pain and suffering walking all they found was a old tree dropping to the ground and an owl staring at them. Lacille could feel herself growing too tired to stay away. She didn't think it was a good idea to fall asleep here but she wasn't sure she had a choice. She sat down and leaned against the tree. "Well that was a silly trip." She said disappointed.

It grew darker, and then darker still. Naeria stuck to the path, not wanting to be alone or to leave the human alone no matter what mushrooms or plants that she wanted samples of she saw just a few feet from the trail.

Her feet were heavy. Something was happening that wasn't natural, and there was no escaping it.

Eventually they reached a tree much taller than any other tree that Naeria thought that she had ever seen, except for maybe in her dreams. As the senshi faltered, she took one more step forwards, reaching out to touch the bark

It felt solid under her hands. It felt real.

As her eyelids fluttered shut, though, and as she pulled her knees up to her chest and settled curled up in a pile of leaves, she still did not know if maybe she had been asleep the whole time.

Lacaille curled up as well she couldn't go another step and there seemed to be no where else to go anyway. She drifted off to sleep and then she felt her own bed under her. She frowned in her sleep wondering if it had all been a dream to begin with.
