Quote:
Path to Nowhere (14) : There are many parks in Destiny City, and if you’re willing to venture to the outskirts of the city you can find an incredibly vast forest system. It’s unlikely that anyone has explored every inch of the forest, but it’s still odd when a strange path into the forest suddenly appears in an area that you thought you knew pretty well. Where there was once just a wall of trees, now there is a faded wooden board with an old fashioned, thatched roof with a thick layer of moss. Pinned to the board, behind broken glass, is yellowed paper. The portrait of a woman wearing vintage clothes watches you with an eerie smile. A map used to be here; you can see where the corners are pinned, but someone has torn it out. A few dried flowers are pinned to the board. Someone has pinned a message that says ‘DO NOT ENTER’ and ‘DANGER’. The path is eerie but doesn’t appear dangerous otherwise. Dark shadows fill the space between the trees, and sometimes you can make out mushroom covered logs in the distance. Many flowers grow but they all appear half wilted or dying. The path winds on for what feels like forever once you are on it. If you’re lucky you can turn around and find your way out, but once you start walking, the path seems like it forever winds. You can walk until you collapse, or until you fall asleep. If you make it into the heart of the forest, you will find a giant tree with branches so heavy that they droop towards the ground, and a strange, bright-eyed owl that watches you from the branches. It’s too dark to see beyond that; regardless of the time of day it was when you entered, it always appears to be nighttime here. A slow breeze disrupts a sea of half-dead dandelions, and suddenly white wisps swirl around you and your vision fades. Whether you exhausted yourself trying to get out, or if you made it to the heart of the forest, you cannot escape the wave of sleep that falls upon you. When you wake up, you’ll be in your bed but you won’t remember how you got there. You can find the path again, if luck wills it, but all trips end up the same.

There had been a lot of rumors cycling about online about a lot of things happening in the woods. The main event, full of the chattering of people and happy goers playing with lanterns and dining on festive foods soon dwindled down as you went further into the woods. Out there, even the voices carried over the breeze of rustling trees. Winter wasn't one much for crowds and less for commotion.

Usually he'd do missions in uniform but this close to crowds meant he had to be low. Waiting, he had called in for some additional backup from a trusted friend. Someone he'd know would take this seriously but be up for a fight if it came to it.

Mahari hadn't been expecting the call, not for something like this, but considering who it was and what they were asking she had agreed. Letting her family know she was going out for the night, telling them she was spending the night with a friend, she made her friend aware of the deciet in order to cover her tracks. It was the best she could do, even if she didn't like being decietful with her own family. To her friend she'd told her most of the truth 0 she was headed out to the woods with another friend - to explore and see about the rumors going about the city about the forest. Her friend was, understably, worried for her but had wished her luck and to keep safe - she'd agreed.

The trip there had taken time, considering how far out side the city it was, but Mahari had arrived and spied the only other person around. "Winter...I wasn't expecting a message from you asking to venture into the woods. I've heard they're rather unfriendly this year...dangerous even." She was glad she kept a firstaid kit in subspace, incase something happened she could power up and retrieve it.

Looking around she couldn't help but shudder, and hold herself with her arms, this place was creepy without a doubt. "I assume you want to figure out what's going on?"

Despite not in his usual form, it was clear that Wolframite would have had a tag wag at the prospect of going out in the woods. His usually somber expression seemed alert, perky even. When Mahari arrived, they smiled.

"The woods can be, but I like to think we're more dangerous than most anything in there. At least that's what I'm banking on. And if it is, well then we should get a report." They could teleport after all which helped with emergencies. With safeties like that in place, it wasn't that bad to go into the woods. It was still some daylight out too which meant they had time to walk in and see if there was anything to the rumors. And if not, then it would be a nice walk in the woods.

"I would like to see if it's just a lot of people being bored or if there is something to it. At most, going for a walk shouldn't be too bad. A hike even if that is all it is. Nothing more than a exercise - training even. Then we can just teleport back to the city if we find nothing. Sound good? I packed some snacks and water for a few days if things go sour." He informed them, cause if it was magic of some sort, he didn't want to starve.

"Ready?" He gestured, and started to walk into the woods. He'd been in a lot of the woods surrounding Destiny city. It was a good place to practice and let some of his more pent up energies when not in Negaverse HQ. Restlessness outside of patrols sometimes got a bit intense and running it off in the woods was a safe way to go about it. For the most part, he was sure he'd notice anything out of the ordinary but brought out a Parks map from the city with him and a compass.

"I'm not sure we're more dangerous but I think we're at least capable of holding our own." Especially with there being two of them, if it was just herself...she didn't think she could handle it if something big came for her. She had strong magic, she knew that without a doubt, but sometimes that didn't matter in a fight. But to have someone with far more skill, and expereience, at her side she was sure they'd manage most anything the forest could throw at them.

"Who would we even turn a report like this in to? I've never had to turn in a report...that's why I ask." Because she'd never done more than fulfilling her quotas, she didn't like the idea of fighting unless she had to so she avoided battles, she had never gotten to knowing all the ins and outs of things despite how long she'd been around.

"Alright, I'm fine with taking a walk and seeing what happens." Though her footwear was not the best for this, far from it really, but she had gotten used to running in shoes much worse shoes so she'd manage this as well. It might not go as easy at first but she'd make it work.

Following the other she caught up and kept at his side, not familiar with the forests surrounding the city at all. "I hope you know the forest well and the path...." And maybe how to get where they were aiming to go as well, so they didn't get lost...or at least not too lost.

As the trees closed in around them Mahari looked back towards where they had just come from, to where the woods started, and than turned back to look forward. "Should we power up or no?"

"To whoever is above you. If you have a team lead that oversees your group, you give the report to them. You can also update the database if you encounter a enemy such as a senshi, knight, or something else. If you don't have a team leader of some sort, then any general will do." He said with a wave of his human-appearing hand. As a civilian glamor, Winter was of less mass than his half-youma body. In this way, he looked to be a tone man in his late 20s or early 30s, clean-shaven, with long dark hair tied into a loose ponytail. His clothes were inconspicuous and average, but his eyes were unusually bright. A vibrant yellow-green.

In the woods, he looked at ease and even excited.

"I visit these woods a lot. It's the few places I can be out of the way and myself without causing some jogger to panic. And if we get too lost, I can teleport us home." He said as a backup solution.

"Let us go for 10 minutes and then power up. That is unless you sense something strange. Even a gut feeling will be good to call out. Always trust your gut. For now, we can walk as if we are just some normal people."

And he thought about that. What would normal people talk about?

"Do you hike?"

"I think I'd put my team lead as you. I don't have anyone else above me that I work with, at all." There were only two people she really worked with, three if she considered Arsenopyrite but she was certain he followed a fellow general. He was someone she trusted though, another doctor who served the negaverse. Deciding to follow his lead, and not power up for now, she shook her head. "No, I don't sense anything. Though I don't think I have such senses like others with more experience would." They were coming though, and they would come in time, she'd take her feelings seriously once they developed due to expereince. She was working on it.

"No, I go for walks though. Almost always powered though. I work a lot and have a large family I help with, lots of nieces and nephews." Most would say too many actually.

"What about you? What do you do in your free time? Things must be different for you - as a half youma. I mean...are there things you miss from before that you did which you can't do now? Or things you'd liek to do but can't?" Wanting to understand and know honeestly, it was a life she couldn't picture for herself. She also couldn't really see most people wanting such a life. It seemed so limiting...and human nature seemed to go against it.

"Hmmm." He hummed in thought. "A large family....." What was that like? What were nieces and nephews like? Were they similiar to friends or did them being family make it like another officer? Was it stronger? Did you feel it in your bones like how he felt around youma? Or something inside when you sensed another Negaverse power signature?

"I don't remember much from before. I only remember my officer memories which were usually a lot of patrolling and fighting." He said as he tried to think about it.

"I sometimes miss having smaller hands." He said, and lifted his human-looking hands palm up, giving the fingers a light flexing. "I like being in the sun. The feel of it. It's hard not to have time out here that long. To remember there is a timer with most things."

And most of all. "I miss chocolate."

He looked over to Mahari. "I spend time with my partner. We try and go out to do normal things people do. Things I don't remember doing before. I like walking in the woods a lot. It's peaceful and relaxing. Bright. I like hunting too. It scratches a itch inside my head. A restlessness."

"I don't know what I'd like to do for the future because I just don't know much of how that will go. A lot has changed in my life over and over again. I don't tend to make plans for further off. I'd like to be a General King - if I am allowed it." He could wish.

"And you? What do you do or wish to do? And your family - what's that like?"

"I can bring you chocolate if you want, you can have it right?" She questioned wondering if somehow she might be able to help the other, just a bit. To not have much of a future, to not make plans and look forward to things, that sounded sad and depressing to her. It sounded lonely as well...to not be able to do so many normal things - human things. But he was human...how does one reconcile such seemingly opposing things inside themself. To want for the human thigns but be so limited or denied outright of those things.

"I'm sure we can find open areas, where people don't tend to go, that you can lay out in the sun...either like this or as you really are. I don't know if there is a difference laying in the sun between appearences. But I'm certain it's still warm." Perhaps too warm the other way? Looking at the other as she spoke, a ghost of a smile forming on her lips. She felt for him...to not remember who he'd been, to remember the civilian things, the family and all. Was it a blessing or a curse or something inbetween. Was it a curse to have forgotten so much, to not remember so many things, but also a blessing not to remember what was lost? It was something she couldn't even decide really.

"I'll buy you chocolate, different kinds." She finally decided. She knew there were lots of flavors and such - she'd get as many as she could. Let him see what he liked and explore something he liked. He was, and had been, helping her to find a comfortable spot in the Negaverse for herself. Because hurting people had not been a comforting thign for her. But he'd helped her and was training her...he'd taken her under his wing and she was greatful.

"I have eleven siblings...and it is a lot, it always has been. But it means never being alone and always being able to go to someone for help. Some of my siblings I'd go to for some thigns and other siblings for other matters. There was always someone to go to, no one was ever without help to provide or offer. We all work in the same field, just different areas of medicine, so we can help each other there as well...no different than when we were growing up really. Nieces and newphews are another matter...I helped with my younger siblings, in raising them, when they were little so it's similar. But now I'm an aunt and so I get treated like a second, or third, parent at times and wind up treating them as such at times. It's always busy between work and family but it's comforting." The warmth to her voice, the smile on her face, she did love her family and cared for them even when it was loud and chaotic at times.

There were fights and drama and people didn't always get along but things were always mended at some point - they had to be.

"I think, with the expereinces you've had, you'd make a good general king. Experience and knowledge...and willingness to help other officers." To not look at corrupt senshi as somehow lesser either, but she didn't say that. She knew some people still didn't like them but it seemed to be fewer and fewer.
