Coming up the road to the house, she passed Aloysius heading out to work. She knew he was going into the shop today to work on orders and had let the guy she hired know to let her know when he left. Today she was going to be giving Liam a few more lessons about some things while also working on her fighting. It was a nice way to get out a bit of her frustration on things as well. Not that she was ever bothered by Liam, it was more so things with Aloysius again over money and things.

Texting them a short little thing letting them know she was here, she waited as usual on the doorstep as she looked at the roses that were in bloom. They weren’t exactly the color she remembered had been in the garden before but they were close and it felt a bit odd as she looked at them. Today she was dressed a little less nicely, instead of heels and a skirt she had sneakers and jeans. Though they were designer jeans and went with the blouse she wore.

Texting back Liam headed downstairs, he’d been up in the bedroom towel drying his hair after his morning shower and seeing Aloysius off to work. He had, as he’d been doing recently, asking to go with him when he went to craft some instruments - he wanted to watch and learn. It was a part of the other's life, and his family history, and he wanted to somehow be involved. It meant something to him, someone who had no family history or anything like this when he’d grown up. It meant something to him.

Unlocking the door he pulled it open and stepped aside. “Coming in?” He wasn’t sure what the plans for the day were, not exactly anyway, but he was up for whatever Melody had planned. He had after all invited these new things into his life, lessons in society, and he was letting Melody lead the way with things while he went along for the ride.

“You didn’t mention what we’d be doing today so I wasn't sure how to dress.” So he’d gone for his usual casual clothing, and would be willing to change if he needed to.

“Just for a bit then we can move somewhere a bit better for my plan today.” Stepping inside, she meandered into the kitchen and grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge. Looking around, it looked like things were still getting cleaned according to the maid she was paying. She hadn’t been sure if things would work out or not considering her brother’s position on having people pop in unannounced.

“So my plan is a bit of practice for us both, I need to practice a bit of hand to hand and you need to practice dodging social questions which isn’t too different from dodging punches.” Plus she figured he’d probably be able to help her figure a bit more about things since he went to the gym. It wasn’t a place she would be caught dead at but she did at least have a walk pad in her apartment that she used and did some yoga here and there in her place.

“So casual works but something a bit more magical would work better.”

“I can do that, I don’t mind a bit of a workout since I don’t really get to fight either.” Since his faction, and himself in particular, didn’t get into fights with other people. He didn’t really have a reason and moved seemed to leave him alone, save for the one who broke his damn arm. He could understand Melody not getting into fights, especially after the burn, so training with her would be good for them both even if he did out rank her.

“Any idea on where you want to do this? I can’t exactly go down negaspace, Aloysius has said I’d wind up dead down there.” Since he was a senshi, chaos or not, he was also the wrong kind of chaos but still the uniform was the bigger reason. He was hoping he could manage the test Melody would be giving him, dodging social questions, because he really did want to please people and he didn’t see the harm in answering simple questions. He didn’t see how such simple questions could be turned into weapons. He was not Melody or even Aloysius who would see it.

“Will we be using magic or just powered up?”

“I mean you have been working out but that’s something else.” Looking them over for a moment as she finished her water and sat at the table. They were far enough away from the city and most people to probably not be felt but she tapped at her chin and pondered.

“Oh of course not, Metallia would sense you and have agents dispatch you if not youma. I hate those things, they don’t like me either even though I am on the same side. There’s no reason for you to be there.” It was another thing she agreed on with her brother and as much as she disliked it more and more often they saw eye to eye when it came to Liam.

“Maybe here? We’re far enough away I believe.”

“Thankfully mirrorspace doesn’t have the same issues with guests, it might pull us in and keep us from time to time, but it isn’t so against others visiting.” Which was a plus if you asked him, despite the place trying to kill its own senshi from time to time. He assumed it was just having a tantrum of sorts and wanted to keep its senshi on their toes…as if it knew how little they involved themselves in the war and the big battles and fights which occurred here and there.

“We can try here though, it should be far enough away that we’ll be safe.” At least he hoped as much, he still might send Desiree a text and see if she couldn’t cover their signatures. She could do that without Melody ever knowing about the mauvian who was partner to her brother, as he knew Desiree did not want Melody to know about her.

Grabbing a bottle of water for himself he took a long pull from it, grabbing his cell phone from the countertop he went to send his text to Desiree. “Shall we head outside?”

“Maybe you should bring me to look around then at some point if it isn’t as bitey as the youma are? I remember looking at those wraiths of yours when we first met.” When she’d actively tried starseeding her brother in front of Liam and found out the hard way he was a General.

Following along, she grabbed one more water bottle because she knew she’d need it after things. “Yes let’s head outside, it’s a nice day today anyway.” Clearing the back doorway, she powered up and pulled her scarf down to sip a bit more water. Looking at the back garden, the rose bushes were in full bloom and had overtaken some of the hedges. It reminded her of things when she was growing up and it wasn’t too bad this time.

The house had sat abandoned for a while but now it looked lived in, looked like a home with people who actually wanted to be here. It felt a bit odd sometimes still though, she didn’t quite know exactly why but it was fine as she turned back to face Liam.

“So the first rule of social interactions is to listen closely and try and understand to what they mean behind what they are saying.” It wasn’t always easy but reading body language as well as knowing a bit of background information always seemed to help.
PostPosted: Fri Jun 07, 2024 10:09 am

“That I can do, whenever you want, the wraith will leave you alone.” Since he would be there and could give any orders which might be needed. Though he’d also never run into one in mirrorspace, oddly enough, since he was certain that was the home of the wraiths. It begged the question - was there an exact size to mirror space? Or was it so big, and vast, that the wraith all existed and lived there and yet he had never run into one due to the size of mirror space.

Powering up as the stepped out of the house he wondered if either of them would wind up overheating, as they both seemed a bit over dressed for this….his own uniform worse than hers. “So you mean reading between the lines…if they are fishing for things or a compliment which isn’t actually a compliment.” Where the tone of voice made the difference and changed the meaning of the word. “I think I can manage that…at least some of it.” Because some things would, without a doubt, go right over his head while other things he might feel weren’t right but might not get why. He was certain enough he could pick up on, though he also knew it wouldn’t be good enough. He’d work on it - he’d have to.

“Ok, you want to go first Melody? Or no taking turns with this sparing?”

“That’s good because I remember you saying not to touch them then which I assume is because they drain things.” Tapping the tip of her shoe against the ground, she tried to remember the things she’d seen and learned from Stichtite and Benitoite. Taking up what she figured was a boxer’s stance, she squared up in front of him even if he still had half a foot on her.

“Exactly, or when someone is hiding something while still maintaining what seems like pleasant conversation.” A lot of it was tone but she’d could tell almost by feel at this point. She just knew so many tells at this point from all her years in the circles of the city and she just had to figure out how best to get that across to them. “Look for things that might not mean much, a finger fidgeting at their side or a twitch of the corner of their mouth or eye. Could be a nervous habit or even just something that gives it away in their eyes.”

Hearing the bit of hesitation in their voice, she nodded sharply and swung out at them and towards their side. Better to catch them off guard both with the hit and then maybe she’d poke them with some questions that might sting a bit. Nothing to really hurt them but maybe get them to think about things.

“Think of Aloysius and I, would you know if something was wrong with either of us without us telling you?” She knew she kept most things quiet, kept anything that might be a weakness hidden just as she’d avoided them finding out about the burns she’d gotten after that fire senshi. Only three people really knew about it and all three of them were generals.

“They do, they do the draining for us…we don’t actually drain anyone ourselves. It’s what would happen if you summoned a youma and they did the draining and then went about on their own gathering energy. We don’t need to direct them too much either and they don’t take starseeds - nor do we.” Wraiths made things easier, they could work from a short distance away from the dark mirror senshi. It meant they could be safely hidden somewhere and the wraith out on its own unseen, and unnoticed, by the people it took from. It was nice and safe really.

“I think I can handle some of it already, at least the basics, I think more will come in time - like what you just said. I think everyone can tell when someone is hiding something but I can only assume this is like levels above the average.” Which meant it was something to practice and work on, it would come in time, he’d learn from Melody. At least what he’d be watching out for, and working with, he already understood at the basic level and could likely pick up on at its basic. He had something to build off of.

Listening as she spoke he almost missed the hit, he caught it just before it connected, and he didn’t have time to move. He did his best to brace for it and took the hit to his side. And he went for a kick, rather than using his hands, he went for what he was weaker in. He was better with throwing a punch, his arms being stronger than his legs, but he was busy paying attention to Melody and her question.

“With you…no. With Aloysius sometimes. He can’t hide a cough when it gets bad ro the wheezing breaths. But if not for the obvious tells - no. I think he would prefer no one knows when he’s unwell.”

Wraiths sounded easier and a lot safer than what she had to do so maybe she was a bit jealous of that but it also meant that Liam could keep back and let things go without to much intervention.

“Many levels above but I’ll help you learn the tells of some of the people you might meet.” The hit connected but it hurt her hand a bit, what hurt more was the kick as she missed dodging it completely. It caught her on the edge of her shin and had her internally cringing but just stepping back with a slight pained expression that was more like one that someone who only had a minor papercut might have.

“His glasses, he adjusts them when things are stressing him. That or him itching at his throat, I noticed that down in the castle.” It was a habit she had too but less for stress with her and more for when she was focusing or wanting to remember something being said. Part of her wondered if the throat thing was a hang up after he’d quit smoking or drinking but he did have that scar there too and she had no idea where that had come from.

Going in for a kick this time, something she was a bit more sure of with her sturdy heels, she aimed for one of their feet to try and get them to stumble. “When someone asks you about Aloysius what do you think you should say to them?” Speaking sternly while in motion, she kept as much of an eye out for whatever hit might come as he responded to her.

“He also tries to avoid things, topics he dislikes, but backing him into a place he can’t escape helps.” Like how he’d gotten him to accept seeing a doctor, backing him into the shower stall. “I find the only way to get things, at least depending on the topic, done is by backing him into a corner someone and nudging but not yelling and getting too pushy…a balance works.”

Because he knew his partner well enough to at least know how to get what he wanted, what was best for them, even if it wasn’t always easy. He could figure the glasses but not the throat. That was interesting. He’d always thought the scar might bother him somehow, the damaged skin and maybe even nerves. But it seemed a habit, a tell, of his instead, “I’ll keep those tells in mind, I’ll need them I’m sure.”

Yelping he jumped back, lifting his leg to look over his foot, he stared at Melody. “He’s been busy managing family affairs and has sadly been unable to attend such events. But I’m here on his behalf?” He questioned, thinking it made the most sense. It made him sound busy, not absent, and also sad that he wasn’t at these events. With the added bit that he was here to present the other. It seemed right and seemed to give the right feel and emotions…but he could honestly be wrong.

“Exactly yet I don’t really have much luck when I do that to him.” The last time had been after the party when she’d backed him into a corner in his home in the city and tried to get information out of him. They probably had more luck because of things but she didn’t know and she really didn’t want to know.

Pausing with her attacks, she smiled and nodded. “Acceptable, also going with an excuse that they were busy handling classes for the Evans family. It’s a good name to use and I’m certain Alexandre wouldn’t want to hide that connection between the families. Good job.” Stepping forward she patted his cheek then raised her fists to get ready for if they were going to try attacking.

“And if he does show up to a gathering what should you do and look out for?” Not swinging yet, she watched and waited while shifting her weight between her feet. The motion had all the layers of her skirt and her scarf swaying slightly.

“I suppose I’m lucky, it works for me.” Perhaps it was because his his relationship with Aloysius, and it being a romantic one, he was glad it worked for him though when he backed Aloysius into a corner and got the other to agree with him on things. He never took advantage of it though, always going at Aloysius for things which would benefit the other as well as them both.

“Alright, I’ll keep that in mind.” If she said it would look, and sound, good for the two families to be placed as working together then he would make sure to use that. Anything he could do to help and make his partner look even better, as well as the Sharp family in general.

“If he comes to an event…anything with alcohol would be one thing I’d watch for.” Just in case, he didn’t want the temptation there, he didn’t want to risk it. He’d keep it as far from the other as he could for long time - just incase. He didn’t want to risk it or dangle something in front of the other…it wouldn’t be good, nor would it be nice. “Any people I should watch for? Or anything else?”

Pouting, she stomped near his foot again with her heel and followed up with an elbow to their stomach. It still felt like she was trying to punch a brick almost and she figured it was because of them going to the gym so much now that they had time.

It was good that they listened, that they were not just fighting her on things like when she bickered with her brother about how things should be run. Scowling at the mention of alcohol she hadn’t really considered that as much in a social setting because she really didn’t pay much mind to it herself. “A good start but also watch what he says because he plays a different type of game than we will be playing when out at things. Don’t get too jealous either.” Because she knew of all the people who whispered and wondered about the elusive musician who could only be seen during recitals.

Looking up at them again she spoke firmly. “Your unwanted family attends things so watch for them but don’t cause a scene. That and see if you can’t find out about any upcoming investment opportunities while talking with people. It could just be a passing comment, nothing really direct because nothing ever is there.” It was all an exercise in paying attention and listening while not seeming rude and keeping things civil.
