When she was done babysitting, her nieces and nephews off with their mothers, Mahari had slipped out for a late night walk. She liked walking around the city, something her family knew and didn’t worry about. This wasn’t India and they didn’t have to worry about her walking about late on her own, as they would have were they back home in India. It didn’t matter what area they lived in, because they had lived in a nice area, it was still unsafe at nights for a long female to be wandering.

Here it was safe, or at least safer, and here she had power and the ability to protect herself - something she had not had back in India. Walking far enough from home, from the homes of her family members, she was safe from being seen or bringing attention to where she came from. That was when she powered up and continued on through the city's dark streets with her heels clicking and her hair blown back by the cool evening breeze.

There was a lot to consider tonight, things had changed and she really couldn’t ignore it even if she wanted to. So instead of just going back to her apartment after the dinner she decided to go out and maybe drain a bit and look for any buildings that were for sale that might meet her needs.

Each step she took led her to the sadder side of the city, full of those undesirables that she held a large amount of disdain for. All of them were here because of their own problems and choices, she never really held any respect for the ones she drained and sometimes drained a bit extra off the top when she could. Tonight she went a bit harder on them as she fought internally between the two ideas she held side by side of her brother and what family meant.

She could feel another chaos signature nearby though so she kept an eye out for them as she went along meeting her quota. Occasionally she wished she’d find her brother out here passed out because she could drain them more and just claim it was an accident. Nobody would believe it but she’d still be adamant about it.

Shaking her head, she knew she wouldn’t find him out like that, not after Liam had picked them up and dusted them off. Things were almost pleasant now and it felt so odd considering how things had been over the past year. Time and time again the image she’d held in her head was proven wrong and it was getting harder to really hold them to what had been built up in her head. They just didn’t match and she’d been figuring that maybe the images had never matched.

Valeria sensed someone else, someone equal in power to herself, and while she could have headed towards the signature she didn't. She also didn’t walk away from it. She just continued draining, her phone coming out to make a call here or there for someone, but she still took the energy she needed from the unconscious men and women. She didn’t discriminate when it came to who she took from, nor who she called help for, these people needed help and she would do her best to aid them. She just hoped some of them would help themselves and let people help them. Most she knew wouldn’t…but some might. For those few she’d start the ball rolling by making her calls.

She wasn’t surprised to hear an ambulance or a cop car, not when she was the reason they were coming into this part of the city. As she walked she was unintentionally heading closer to her fellow corrupt. Her heels clicking and hair trailing behind her as she moved, watching her surroundings just in case.

Aoede was close now, she could feel them and as she turned the corner she saw a head full of pink hair that was longer than hers. It wasn’t even braided so all that length just seemed to drag and she felt bad for them. It must be a pain having all that. If it wasn’t such a pain to cut off her hair each time she powered up she’d do it more often, to be honest.

Clearing her throat she waved to the corrupt. “Good evening, is your patrol going well?” Part of her felt like they looked familiar, had they been at that party where Benitoite and Wolframite were drinking? It had been awhile back and to be honest, she’d been more focused on the tales that were being let slip by the drunk blond.

“Hopefully things have been going well for you.” Moving in closer, she adjusted her glasses and casually gave them a once over. “You look familiar, have we met before?”

“So far so good, I’ve been rather busy this evening.” Came the answer while Valeria made her way closer to the other, hands resting in her lap as she walked. “It’s been easy gathering here, always is, people don’t tend to notice when they’re unconscious.” Which was a good thing for her, though she did like grabbing starseeds from those who aided these poor people in their descent. Looking the other over as well, as she took note that she was being looked up and down, she nodded slowly.

“I do believe we’ve crossed paths before. I believe it was during a gathering.” Because she didn’t cross paths with many, and she didn’t see many she could easily recall those she had come across, so she could remember that this corrupt she had seen at that gathering, a celebration, turned party. “You look well tonight, how goes gathering?”

“That’s good, it’s been going well for me as well.” She’d gotten more than enough for her quota and had started up a bit extra as a cushion in case she got busy with civilian things here soon. With summer coming up she wasn’t exactly sure how many more lessons would happen for the Evans family but she did know a lot more events would be requiring her attendance.

“Ah yes, with Wolframite and Benitoite. Now I remember. It has been rather uneventful, I’ve been looking into some things around here since I figure the rent prices will be rather cheap given the local population.” A bit of disgust had the corner of her mouth turning down into a frown as she spoke, she really didn’t like these people that lived here. If she had the money and power to do so she’d have the whole area bulldozed and something better put in its place.

“I’ve just about hit my quota so at this point I am mostly just looking around at some things.”

“This area might not be the best…” That was putting it mildly, and being generous. “But it makes gathering easy. I also don’t feel bad taking a star seed from a dealer or a pimp, and this area isn’t short on supply of both those sorts of people.” And when one vanished another turned up to fill the empty space. Eventually it was her hope no one would fill those spots, that this area of the city could be cleaned up, she was working on it in her own way.

“What would you want to do in this part of the city? It’s not exactly a safe part of Destiny City.” That was an understatement really, this part of the city had more crime than anywhere else…even when you took into account the powered crimes which took place in the city. “I’ve been slowly trying to clean up part of this area. It helps me as well.”

Taking a moment to adjust her glasses, Aoede took a look around the area as she considered talking about her plans. There was a lot to set up still so she was hesitant to share things because she didn’t want her idea sniped. Deciding against it, since she didn’t really know this other corrupt outside of a chance meeting in the past. They didn’t seem terribly horrid so far but you never really could know.

Waving around vaguely she decided to give a non-committal answer. “As you said it’s easy to gather here and there really aren’t as many of those order enemies around. The people here aren’t really the type to call for the local police or anyone else that could lead to trouble being brought around either.” It meant it was pretty much free for whatever either just draining or starseeding, even if that wasn’t something she really did. She’d had her hand in a knight’s chest before but backed out of it then. Though now after getting burned she was certain she would take the chance if it meant her avoiding getting hurt again.

“I guess it does help if there are fewer of those undesirables that are feistier, getting punched while trying to drain isn’t fun. Do you know this area well though?” She still didn’t know much about it because it wasn’t a place where she really would be caught dead even looking into it on her computer. It was social suicide just considering looking into things here as a civilian.

“I’m getting better at finding my way in this area. I’ve been calling ambulances when they are needed for people. I’m hoping that with time, and a lot of effort, things can turn around. This area brings down the areas around it, it’s unsafe, and it brings down the city. I’d like to take out every dealer and pimp and make it where none replace them - too fearful of their own death.” And she’d like the users to get clean, but that was a whole different battle. That was fighting against addiction and it wasn’t an easy fight, it also wasn’t a battle for her to fight, it was something each person would need to face…and want to fight. Many wouldn’t though.

But perhaps finding themselves in a hospital, drained of energy, or both it would wake some of them up enough that they’d get help. “It’s my way of getting what I need, as far as energy and some starseeds, while also helping the area as it needs to be.” If the cops and others in charge wouldn’t do it she would. She would handle it and she would also make her quotas at the same time.

“This area needs a lot of work and it’s not safe…though for us I suppose it is safer than it is for this areas victims.”

It sounded too good to be true and she had her doubts, these people here didn’t need a second chance especially if that meant it would make her job gathering energy harder if the area was cleaned up but she wasn’t about to say that when it seemed like the other senshi was motivated to do something. “It’ll take time, that’s for sure.”

Stepping forward, she looked around again at some of the dazed people that were further down the alley. Probably ones that had already been tapped for the night of energy so there was no point in trying for more from them tonight. “It makes sense, maybe I’ll keep an eye out on things for you, just in case any of those more dangerous ones show up. That or if any knights or order senshi show up, not that I’ve really seen many around here.” It was sort of an offer but more so an opportunity to get someone else around this area as a second set of eyes as she scouted things out.

Any number of people between her and another of those senshi like the firebug, the more the merrier in her opinion as long as she wasn’t the one getting burned.

“Order wouldn’t come here, they’d avoid a place like this. They claim they want to help but where are they? They are in the safe, nicer, areas of the city doing nothing for the people here.” Whereas she was gathering energy, yes, but she was trying to do some good as well and help these people where and when she could. “They are only out and about to fight us - not do anything worthwhile…” She hadn’t seen much of order here and what good did they do? They claimed to be the good guys, to want to save this city, but what did they do aside from fight against her side? Would they suddenly start doing any good in this city if they were to win once and for all? Would they then, and only then, turn their sights onto this part of the city and help? It wasn’t something she had considered, or thought about, till now as she was speaking to the other.

“I’m no doctor but I have some knowledge in medical so I try and help where and when I can. The drug dealers are dangerous, if I could control a youma it would make dealing with them easier and less dangerous, but their starseeds are good to turn in. I doubt this part of the city will clean up for years.” Unknowingly telling the other that she didn’t need to worry about this part of the city becoming too expensive - not any time soon at least.

“It would be nice to have another set of eyes on things. And if you need help you can always reach out to me.”
PostPosted: Mon Jun 03, 2024 9:11 pm

So that’s how it was and she could agree with it in part. “High up on their thrones acting as if this part of the city doesn’t exist as long as they keep fighting their good fight.” It was easy to lean into it, to egg on this opinion because she really didn’t like order either. The fights she’d gotten into were rough as well so if she could avoid them by sticking around here then she’d deal with these pathetic people.

Perking up at the mention of them being a doctor or sorts, or at least one with medical knowledge, she nodded to them. “Aoede is my name if you don’t remember it. I work under Benitoite. It would be nice if the youma were on our side and not just the side of the officers.”

That other confirmation they said had her screaming with joy inside. Prices would stay low and she could work on slowly buying up buildings and seeing about things here to sew a few seeds and get something set up. She could maybe wrap it up as a harm reduction clinic and get this senshi to help maybe in the long run but that would just be the facade of it all as they siphoned off energy in droves. Bleed the whole area dry one way or another until the problem resolved itself.

“I look forward to working with you in the future, I’m sure we can figure something out about this area.” Offering a smile as well as her hand to shake theirs, Aoede had a lot more to think about and plan on now.

“It would be nice but I doubt we’ll ever get that lucky. It’s still better than being on the other side, at least we are on the right side of this war.” She stated calmly. Order she was not a fan of, not when the only reason they came here was because they sensed chaos, they didn’t do anything but fight chaos and do nothing for the city and the people who lived here. Not that the Negaverse was hosting charities and events and such but they did offer jobs to people when they had plans going to collect energy. If order didn’t ruin those plans then people would have good jobs provided, unknown to them, by the Negaverse.

“I take it you have plans for this area and the people here?” She questioned, shaking the others hand slowly, watching her. “Valeria, corrupt of brains.” Because she figured it might be a good idea to let the other know what her sphere was,

“I’ll help you so long as our goals, and wants for this area, align and work together. I’m not against using the people here for our needs…so long as the people here don’t suffer more than need be. Kill the pimps and dealers, as well as the gang bangers - I don’t care about them…they are the problem in this city.” Along with order, of course. “But the users and the street walkers…they need help, and they can be used for energy grabs.” But no killing them, they were in most cases victims of various things
