It was such a lovely day on campus today, and Jaina was taking a walk, just enjoying the warm breeze playing across her face.
Of course, in enjoying the breeze, she had her eyes closed…and of course, she was still walking. The path had been clear though, so she hadn’t been worried about crashing into anyone…and of course.
That was exactly what happened and Jaina walked right into someone, yelping in confusion as she stumbled. “Oh my god. I’m so sorry!” The words came out in a gasp as Jaina tripped and hopped twice, before colliding with a low wall, a planter filled with flowers.
“s**t, are you okay? That was my fault completely. The breeze felt so good and my eyes were closed like an idiot.” She turned to look at who she ran into and her first thought was damn. What bright hair.
Her second thought was guilt for not paying attention but…hopefully he wouldn’t be mad.

The worst thing when being run into by someone who had their eyes closed, was also being distracted with your nose in a book and not looking where you were going. It wasn't really his fault, but he was trying to understand the differences between C and Objective-C and why anyone had decided to keep both of these languages around because it made absolutely no sense and--
Zeke toppled over into a bench, yelping as he was collided with. The book went flying into the planter bed as he crumpled over the back of the bench. There was a voice speaking, but the world was still spinning and his glasses were hanging by one arm.
"One sec, ack," he said, waving an arm towards the voice behind him. First okay, get the glasses back on properly. Second, push self back up right and onto the bench the right way. Okay. Done.
He hadn't expected such a cute girl to be apologizing to him though. Long dark red hair down past her waist, dark brown eyes, and tall. s**t she was tall. Zeke's face flushed a little at that and he cleared his throat, standing quickly.
s**t he was eye level with her -- eyes UP ZEKE, UP.
"I wasn't paying attention either. No harm no foul, as long as you're okay...?" he asked, glancing up and down to see if she was hurt or injured in any way.
And if he shifted slightly so his overly long sweater vest covered the front of his pants... that was his business and he wasn't going to bring attention to it.

Grimacing, Jaina reached out and grabbed his book from the planter, and held it out. He was little. Honestly, she would have made a comment if she wasn’t so absolutely embarrassed. “Yeah, so long as you’re okay, here’s your book…it was just…”
She gave a wistful sigh and tucked a lock of hair behind her ear, the rest of it blowing as the warm breeze picked up again.
“It was just so nice. It’s just so nice. Taking a walk seemed like the most important thing to do in the entire world so…”
Shrugging, she hesitated. “Do you want to go to the cafe with me? Maybe grab a drink and I can make up for bowling you over?”
It was the least she could do, and he didn’t seem angry…and that.
She didn’t want him to be angry.

He took the book and tucked it back into his book bag. Zeke checked his phone for a moment, reminding himself that, yes, you were on the way to the cafe because your next class isn't until the evening you dolt.
"I actually was on my way there before we collided. My next class isn't until this evening. I'm, uh, Zeke, by the way," he told her with a sheepish sort of smile. Besides, if they sat at the cafe, he wouldn't have to crank his neck so much to look at her face.
So tall...
"Maybe we can snag one of the outdoor tables? You're right that it's absolutely lovely today." Zeke smiled at her, glancing at the day around them. It really was lovely outside today. He could see why she'd gone for a walk. The eye closed, less so, but he'd had his nose in a book so...

“I’m Jaina. And absolutely, I was going to fight you if you suggested we sit inside.” Giving a laugh, she began to walk towards the cafe, glancing at him for a moment to make sure that he was following. “I wish it could be like this every day. The winters and summers are way too long…and the nice days like this? There’s never enough of them, it’s rude.”
Friends were good. Friends outside of life were good. This was fun.
“What’s your major, Zeke? Also, do you always walk with your nose stuck in a book? Watch out, if you do French people will start singing about you. It’s scientifically proven.”
…At least it was in Beauty and the Beast.

Zeke adjusted his bag and followed her, glancing up with a smile as she made sure he was following. Damn she was tall... He'd never really considered, you know, who might be attractive in his mind. Too busy with school and trying to not disappoint the Code, and because the only people he usually even were pointed at were his mother's picks and they were never... great?
Mark had been a delight to talk to and hang around with, but he'd also been looking for a 'trophy spouse' and was probably more into his mother than Zeke himself.
Jaina on the other hand was just... a person. A very tall person, but a person nonetheless and one his mother had no hand in. At the very least, she seemed decent enough already to be considered a friend.
"Computer Science, with a focus on client side interfaces and application development," he said, taking a few extra steps to walk next to her. Damn his short legs! "Which is a very academic way to say I'm learning to build apps for phones, computers and the like."
Zeke scrunched his face at her, pouting with this tongue out. "Haha, very funny Jaina. I only have my nose stuck in a book when the damn code makes no sense, alright?" He was not Belle, thank you very much. If anything, he was more like the prince from Cinderella, just less problematic.
"What do you study?" he asked as the cafe came into view. It didn't seem super busy, thankfully, and there were a good number of tables still open in the warm sun.

“That’s pretty damn impressive! Honestly, I’m still torn on what I really want to do. My brother is loaded so honestly if I don’t want to work I won’t have to…but coming here for classes has helped me meet a lot of people and like. Been amazing for my mental health…I’m enjoying like, my computer classes…and I’ve thought about maybe trying to go into like game design, but the whole…coding thing…that’s way too much for me. I like languages, but…again…there’s not much of a place to go from there…so right now I’m just taking one class at a time and trying to find myself.”
And meet new friends while doing so.
“I’ve been acing all of the classes I’m taking by doing it that way, so my GPA thanks me from the bottom of its heart.”

Zeke raised a brow and led her to one of the tables and set his bag down. "Game design is a cool field, plus it's popular and you can always go the independent developer route," he said. He hadn't pegged her for being rich; clearly whatever her brother was rich from was not the same circles that his mother worked in. At least, he'd remember someone Jaina's height and hair color at the functions.
"Lucky; my mother is of the mind that I should work for myself instead of just inheriting the family wealth," he muttered with a sigh. Then again, he could also be used a business merger at her decision, and she couldn't very well marry off her only son without a college education on his resume.
"Do you want to get a drink first, and I'll watch our stuff?"

Jaina grinned and nodded. “It seems like it could be really fun!” She simply nodded, trying to gloss over the whole both of them having money…it wasn’t like Jett’s money was really hers...she was just using it because he was so generous but.
“I’ll cover the drinks, just tell me what you want and we can continue this great little talk?”
She wasn’t being sarcastic, she was honestly enjoying herself. And she could cover the drinks no problem. Plus, it meant that her new friend wouldn’t just vanish into the void when he got himself something.
…Not that she needed to buy her friends but. Sometimes it didn’t hurt.
