Hobbies:
Candles – Brief stints of therapy taught him generally unhelpful skills related to the five senses, but one thing Jamie discovered in the process was that he likes scented candles. Some may now jokingly call his ever-growing collection an addiction. Jamie will admit that he spends way too much money on them (considering he doesn’t make much money to begin with), but they smell good and they make him happy. His preferred way to relax is to light a candle, flop onto the couch under a warm blanket, and zone out to the TV or his phone (or both). He’s considered making his own candles but hasn’t been able to set aside enough time for it yet.
Plants – In the absence of consistent friends, Jamie keeps plants for company. They’re perfect for it. Some of them don’t even require a lot of maintenance. He can talk to them and they won’t talk back, vent to them without receiving any unsolicited advice, and share secrets without having to worry about them running their mouths. Plus they really add something to the otherwise uninspiring decor of his dumpy apartment. Jamie often rescues the most pathetic looking plants on a display and attempts to nurse them back to life. Sometimes he’s successful. Sometimes he’s not.
Tinkering – Jamie has always had an interest in how things work. As a child, he would take his toys apart and put them back together. As he grew older, he switched from toys to household appliances. He enjoys the process almost as much as the sense of accomplishment when he manages to repair something. Some people might find it frustrating when a problem arises that requires tinkering, but that’s half the fun for Jamie. These days he can clean, repair, and sometimes improve anything from the refrigerator to the washing machine to the dishwasher to some discarded holiday decoration left busted on a shelf in the store.
Virtues:
Hardworking – Jamie might complain about work and school (sometimes endlessly), but he still goes to work and school and does everything that’s required of him to the best of his abilities. He simply can’t half a** things; he must whole a** them while hating every moment of it. In the end he doesn’t mind this compulsion of his, because it means things get done, usually to some pretty exacting standards. Though he wouldn’t call himself a perfectionist, he does take a bit of pride in a job well done.
Straightforward – Jamie isn’t the type for lies or misinformation. He says what he means and means what he says—sometimes to his own detriment, or the detriment of others. He likes to know where he stands with people, which generally means returning the favor. Jamie is candid and sincere. He’ll keep secrets if necessary but prefers honesty and authenticity. He doesn’t see much of a point in trying to delude people. He finds that when others know what to expect from him, they’re less likely to be disappointed later on.
Practical – Jamie can’t remember the last time he was deluded about anything in life. He was a precocious child who grew into a burnout teen too stubborn to give up even if doing so would have served him better. He keeps himself planted firmly in reality and has a pragmatic approach to most problems that arise. He has what he thinks are reasonable expectations and doesn’t allow himself to get lost in the clouds. Jamie strives to be logical in all areas of life. There has never been a magical solution to things and he wastes no time trying to find one.
Flaws:
Spiteful – Jamie works hard in various aspects of his life. This includes holding a grudge. He considers himself an Olympic Champion in Spitefulness. He can be hateful, and hurtful, and doesn’t often forgive or forget. He is frequently vindictive, periodically catty, and perpetually snide. He doesn’t think himself cruel since he reserves his spite for those who’ve earned it, but outsiders without much experience with him might find his attitude a bit off-putting.
Pessimistic – The world sucks and everything is awful. That isn’t a motto so much as a fact of life. Jamie is a world class pessimist. He expects the worst in any given situation. It isn’t that he worries about it, it’s simply what he’s come to know about life. The world is cruel and unfair and there’s no point in pretending otherwise, not even to preserve someone’s feelings. They should know the truth as much as he does. Jamie has been called a cheerless downer and an unrepentant killjoy, and he’s totally fine with that.
Dramatic – Jamie has feelings. A lot of feelings. And because he likes to be straightforward, other people usually have to deal with those feelings. Even the negative ones. Especially the negative ones. Jamie can be emotional, and loud when he’s emotional. He has sometimes been known to make his problems other people’s problems. But it’s unhealthy to keep everything pent up, right? So he should let it out. Right??? At least he’s self aware and acknowledges that he can be a pain in the a**.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Eyes: Round and baby blue (#89CFF0), often lined with black liner and similarly dark mascara.
Hair: A pale, cool blond with lavender highlights, worn to his shoulders. Jamie’s hair has a wave to it when left to air dry. It’s often haphazardly tossed into messy ponytails and buns.
Face: Androgynous leaning toward feminine in the shape and set of his features. Youthful, with the occasional hastily treated blemish. He has two piercings in each earlobe and a stud in his left nostril.
Skin Tone: Pale, creamy, with a bit of a rosy quality. Jamie is prone to blotchy flushing, especially when his emotions get out of hand.
Body Type: Narrow framed, with an underlying strength most overlook. A thin, subtly toned physique that doesn’t require much work to maintain.
