Kayde 1

It was almost the twin's birthday. It always filled him with pride to see them growing older. To watch them make mistakes. To see their separate personalities that didn't ruin the bond they shared. Growing up an orphan without a single idea of who his birth family was, it brought him so much joy to watch them. To have a family to call his own. The other boys at the orphanage in Oba hadn't felt like family at all. Barely friends sometimes. Oh, he got along with them fine enough, but they'd always gang together and make fun of him. What was a child of Tale doing in Oba? Did his parents not want him so badly that they ditched him in another country? Was he the product of some shady noble's affair kept secret? He'd heard it all. It was no wonder he'd left as soon as he was old enough, hitching a ride with the traveling trope to become their acrobat.

Strange to think back on that life now. It felt so far away. He was getting old. That brought him back to the present, and to the piece of paper in his hands. Directions were written on it in his own hand so that he wouldn't forget to go to the place while he was roaming around town on different errands for the day. Keeping someone waiting would be unacceptable. In fact, he made sure to keep a close eye on the sun in the sky and got there early, if not to make a good impression but also not risk it. Not when he had something very important to order.

It was rare that Kyril got to spend an entire season with her family in Matori, but the hybrid had managed to linger for a few weeks longer than expected. She was having such a time that she had even gone to her mentor's old shop in the nearby village, the hybrid helping out while she could for a bit. Did she need the money? Not necessarily, but it was always relaxing to work in the forge with the glass forming into various shapes as she pulled together requests and restocked the store. At the moment Kyril was touching up a glass vase, twisting bands of amber and teal into the design as she rolled the molten glass across colorful beads. It was only after a few minutes that she finally finished, dipping the glass into a container to cool, and as Kyril stood up she wiped a hand across her brow to shake off the damp bangs clinging there.

That should give me time for any guests. Her mother had mentioned there might be someone stopping in today, and Kyril had kept an eye out before getting caught up in projects. Now she simply waited, twisting her hair back into a fresh braid before leaving the back of the shop to go back through the shelves and make certain all of their spare pieces were perfectly arranged for visitors. It was there that she would be found, the little storefront along the main square with its display full of various glass creations some mimicking creatures with others being more useful like vases and paperweights.

Kayde 2

Once he dropped off the last item on his list for the day, Kayde walked back to the main street, where all the artisans had their little shops that he knew so well. Even though it still felt like yesterday that he had moved here, he had come to know most of the shopkeepers and their workers. Had helped them on more than one occasion each with something or another. There had been even a day when he had apprenticed for a day with some when they were short on staff. Never anything big, of course. Usually dealing with customers, distracting them with talk while the real master finished their order. Or hauling something from one end of the yard to the storage room, stacking everything neatly on top of each other in the corner. It was work he knew Elka wished he'd stop doing. But he enjoyed it. It didn't bother him how busy he made himself between his little errands and his dancing career. He always managed to make time for his family, despite it.

The man stopped for a moment to admire the glasswork in the window before entering. The shop wasn't one he was as familiar with as, say, the bakery or the bookstore. He looked around for a moment, until his pale eyes fell upon a woman, whom he approached with the usual friendly smile on his face. "Excuse me. You wouldn't happen to be," he paused long enough to look down at his note, turning his eyes back up once he got his answer, "Kyril, would you?"

And there went the moment of silence. Kyril tossed her braid over her shoulder and straightened her light cotton blouse over her leggings to look more presentable before turning around to greet the guest. A leaf earthling? Was that who her mother had mentioned? A small smile of amusement crossed Kyril's lips as she watched the man looking down at the note. "I might just be." She replied after a moment, the question making her think that this was more than likely her expected guest indeed. Unless Jhin had sent someone from the rangers with a message for her? But that didn't seem right since she didn't recognize the man from those living back in the village. "I think I may have been expecting someone, but sometimes I can be terrible with names so my apologies. Kayle or Kain, was it?" She started, looking over the earthling before holding up a finger as if to request a second to think. "That's not quite right..."

"Kayde?" Was that it? Kyril smiled as she recalled her mother's words about the couple that had moved to Matori and had worked with her family here. "You've danced for the academy before, correct? If so, then it's a pleasure to meet you." She paused after another moment, a soft laugh leaving her lips. "If not then I suppose this is a bit of an awkward misunderstanding, but I'll still try to of any help if you're looking for something in the shop."

Kayde 3

"I'm, at least, certain I walked into the right place." Kayde looked around him, noting the many displays of impressive glasswork surrounding him. Would have made him a little nervous to be standing there, afraid of knocking something over, had he not worked on his balance ever since he was a very young teenager, balancing on tight ropes and doing practiced, precise leaps from high places in such a way as to not hurt himself. He never tripped over his own feet, his eyes always watching the ground. A habit he had picked up long ago to make sure there was no debris on his small stage to ruin his act.

He turned back around, folding the small piece of paper and placing it back in the pocket of his pants. It was true. He could have mistaken her. He knew to look for a hybrid, but Matori and Oba were so close to each other, it wasn't an uncommon combination to find in the citizens, especially on this side more than the Oba. Not like finding a pair from Tale and Zena in Matori. Much harder to blend into the crowd. Still, he was never bothered by any looks of surprise. The world was changing. The countries were mixing more and more. It wasn't a bad thing. Quite wonderful, really, to find love within another culture.

The Leaf man stood quietly, waiting for her to come to a decision before nodding his head at her final question. "I have, yes. I seem to be slowly being introduced to your family." He returned the amusement with a little chuckle of his own. It did seem to be true. Which was fine with him. They all seemed like such a lovely group of people. "I was actually looking to order some custom pieces for my children's birthday."
