Ever since the night he had descended into Mirrorspace, Levi had been...debating. Asking himself a million questions, trying to weigh the pros and cons of all of it. Of staying, of going. Of keeping his life and making a new one, of finally figuring out what it really meant to be Sailor Elsa, Senshi of Emptiness.

The problem was, he was increasingly coming to a decision that was going to mean...a whole lot of changes. Uprooting his entire life, really. And before he did that, there was someone he needed to talk to.

He'd called Lavender, asked to come over and talk to her, alone--because this was between him and his twin, and no one else--and he stood outside her door, and knocked.

This was...probably going to be the hardest conversation of his life. When he'd come out, he'd sort of known what to expect, but this? It could go any number of ways, and that was sort of terrifying.

Lavender was excited that Levi wanted to come over. It felt as though they never got to talk, really. And she missed him. Especially now, with everything being so crazy with the twins coming. She and Rhona had been so busy getting things decorated, beginning to babyproof as much as they can, and just…trying to spend time with one another.

Rhona was always so busy all of the time, and the pregnancy had honestly been good to at least keep her home more often.

Right now she was at work, and Lavender opened the door with a smile. “Hey you! I’m so sorry that things have been so distant lately. It’s been rough. And you know Rhona…she never wants to settle.”

She stepped out of the way and gestured for her brother to enter, a plate of fruit and cheese on the coffee table in front of the couch. “Make yourself at home!”

It was rough. This should have been, Levi knew, the happiest time of Lavender's life. She and her wife were married. Having kids. And here he was, showing up to absolutely uproot everything and throw it all into utter chaos.

But some decisions, a person had to make for themself.

"Thanks," he said. "I know it's been crazy, with everything going on, and I've...kind of been having a time of things, myself." A time that he'd mostly kept to himself, because he'd thought it was something he needed to fix for himself. "Which is kinda what I wanted to talk about?"

He came inside. Moved towards the couch, but didn't sit down, not just yet.

"Look. I could beat around the bush, but we both know I hate that, so I'm just gonna come out with it--Lav, I think I want to leave the Dark Mirror."

Lavender froze, having turned away, in the process of grabbing the drinks that were waiting on the kitchen counter. She felt as though she had been punched, hard.

For a moment, she couldn’t quite…think and instead of answering, she walked into the kitchen, grabbing the drinks and putting them on the coffee table with the cheese plate.

After another long, drawn out moment of silence, she half fell into a chair and looked at her brother, brows furrowed. “I…yeah? What…ah…what brought that on?”

Well. At least Lav wasn't screaming or throwing him out of the house or anything. Levi could...at least appreciate that. Given that she'd brought drinks and everything from the kitchen, it seemed like a bad idea to not at least sit like they were going to have a conversation about this.

"I've had...trouble with my magic, for a long time," Levi confessed. "It never really felt right. I never really felt right about it. It's hard to explain, just....it felt wrong. And I finally figured out why."

He crossed one leg over the other, tapping his foot against his calf. "I kind of went on this....adventure. Let's call it. In Mirrorpsace. Was able to see some memories of the last Sailor Elsa. And it turns out--I'm not supposed to be the Senshi of the Wendigo. I never was. I was supposed to be the Senshi of Emptiness, all along, but she--the last Sailor Elsa--some ******** up stuff happened at the end of her life, and it seems to have...scarred her starseed, somehow. Her starseed, my starseed, our starseed, whatever. So I had ot deal with all that and now my magic is right and it works, but I can't stop thinking...."

He exhaled.

"I feel like there's more I want to know. More that might be wrong. And I am literally the only one who can fix it. But to do that, I have to leave the Court." His shoulders dropped. "And I just---I don't know if I can stay, knowing that there was something so wrong with me for so many years, and no one ever noticed. Mirrorspace never cared, until it became totally untenable. And I just....I can't do it anymore. Not knowing all of that."

Lavender listened and took hold of her drink, taking a sip of it while she listened. Levi’s voice sounded like it was coming from far away, and she wasn’t sure if she was tuning things out or was about to pass out, because honestly, it could be either. She…understood. It made sense. But.

“I don’t know…I don’t know if Rhona will want to leave. You know that she’s…always…so for the Court…I…”

Drawing in a breath, Lavender closed her eyes and counted to ten, trying to keep herself as calm as she could. “I…wish that…this had happened before she…I mean…I…”

Swallowing, she looked at her brother and nodded slowly. “I will miss you.”

And this was the hard part, wasn't it. They'd always been together. Always known that the other was there. And Levi was...destroying that. He knew he was. Knew that this would hurt Lavender. But he still felt, deep down, that he had to do it. That this was the best--the only course of action he could take.

"I know," Levi said. "And I understand. I won't ask you to come with me. You're married, you have kids coming, you have...so much you'd be giving up." Not that he didn't, but for him, it was different. Academic accomplishments, a job, all of that--very whatever.

"I'll miss you too," he said, genuinely. "And I hope--I hope you're happy, Lav. Really. I hope you, and Rhona, and the kids have the best life. And I'm sorry I won't be there for it."

Lavender closed her eyes for a moment and drew in a deep breath. “You know you’ll always be welcome back, if you find what you’re looking for and feel that you can come back, I’ll make sure that you are allowed to. I’ll make sure of it, so…don’t worry on that front…um.”

Her chest was aching slightly, and she was trying to just keep herself calm but…

Damn. This sucked. “I’ll see if Rhona would be willing to leave…I…maybe she would…we’d have to figure out how to deal with the babies but…we…I’ll ask. It won’t be until after they’re born but…”

She would try. There was no way her wife would agree but…still.

“Just promise me that you’ll be safe? Don’t go doing anything stupid, okay?”

Honestly? All of Lavender's promises were sweet, but Levi didn't exactly foresee any of them coming to pass. Once he left, in his heart, there would be no going back. And Rhona would never abandon the Court she had willingly chosen and given so much to.

But he wasn't going to say that. Not to Lav, not right now.

"Thank you. And if you two do decide to leave, I'll be waiting." Hew would welcome his sister and sister-in-law with open arms, even if he knew he wouldn't entirely remember them.

"And I promise I'll be as safe as I can be. No point in doing all this just to get myself hurt or killed before I can get my answers, right?" He forced himself to smile, but he knew it looked wan and tired. "I love you, Lav. You're the only family I've ever needed. You know that, yeah?"

Maybe not. He didn't say it enough. But he had to make sure he said it now.

Lavender nodded and put her drink down, before standing up and moving to the couch, hugging Levi with all of the strength that she had. “If you do end up getting yourself killed, I’m going to be pretty pissed, and I’ll find some way to resurrect you just so I can kill you myself. That’s always my threat to Rhona, and you as well…so just. Be safe you a*****e.”

Her voice broke on the word a*****e and she shook her head swiftly, trying to force back the tears that had finally won out.

“I love you too. So much.”

Levi leaned into the hug, wrapping his arms around Lavender and holding her tight.

This would probably be the last time he hugged his sister, and he was going to make it count.

"I will. I promise. No need for necromancy here." He couldn't even manage to be playfully angry with her--not now, not here, not with this. Not when it was his choices that were going to pull them apart, possibly for good.

"Is it okay if I just...hang out here for a while? I have some stuff to do to close out my....everything, but....it can wait a little." It wasn't like he was on some kind of strict timer, after all.

Lavender nodded, not wanting to say anything at first. Not wanting Levi to know just how much this was bothering her but finally. Finally.

“Stay for as long as you want to. I’m not chasing you away. Not now, and not ever. I promise.”

Even if this choice made them enemies, which…she couldn’t really think that it would…she would never chase him away. As long as he was her brother, and magic be damned...he would always be her brother, then he was always welcome.
