Lanting was, bluntly, nervous. This entire thing--with the Code, and their Wonders, and all of it--it really, really freaked him out. And he wasn't exactly able to shake the possibility of getting trapped again, even if it seemed like that was possibly a one-time situation. Still, just to cover himself, he'd sent a couple messages on Discord mentioning that he was feeling a little ill, maybe he wasn't as recovered from that bout of the flu as he'd thought, haha, just....well. Just in case.

He was fidgeting nervously with his wand while he waited in the park, where he and Dunnottar had promised to meet--they'd be doing solo expeditions to their Wonders, but getting to talk to someone else beforehand and settle his nerves sounded really nice, to Lanting. And Dunnottar was...a little prickly, sure, like a pastel cactus, but a cactus just required the right care and it could blossom! So Lanting probably just had to be nice to him and things would totally work out.

Yeah. That....that sounded good. Even if Dunnottar would only ever know Lanting, because Shuangxu was a whole disaster area and no one needed that.

Shulang sighed a little as he slipped from his home and transformed into Dunnottar a few streets away. This whole thing just seemed so... tiring. Already. But he'd promised to help the kid (he had no real idea how old Lanting was, actually, but anyone younger than him was "kid", anyway), and his honor demanded he suck it up and deal with it. He made his way down to the park they'd agreed to meet at, wishing that they didn't have to go through all this fuss, but... After meeting the Code like that, the sheer scope of this whole... universal conflict thing had finally hammered its way into his skull. He lived here, all his stuff was here, and as far as he knew, he couldn't simply hop from one universe to the next—at least, not without dying, and transmigrating into another universe would probably end up with him in a similar situation anyway.

Nooo thank you.

"Ah, Lan... didi," he greeted, a little bit uncomfortable with the familiarity, but feeling it necessary all the same, after Lanting had used "gege" back on the Moon. "How are you feeling?"

Lanting perked up when he saw Dunnottar. Yeah, okay, they were both only Pages, but Dunnottar seemed so much more mature and put together, and Lanting really, really wanted for there to be someone who knew what he was doing that he could talk to. There was so much he needed to learn, and so much he needed to figure out, and the whole thing was...super mega stressful and scary, especially because it could have such big deal consequences. Probably. Maybe.

Anyway, the point was, Dunnottar's presence made him feel better about everything going on. Even if Dunnottar seemed a little awkward--maybe he just wasn't used to having friends, or he was an only child, or something.

"Extremely nervous," Lanting confessed, "but there's nothing I can really do but go forward, you know? What about you, gege?"

Dunnottar nodded, feeling more awkward as time went on in this Page's presence. He wasn't even really sure what he was doing, talking to a Page of Ida when he was a Lysithean Page, himself. Did they care about factions like that? He wasn't sure. If nobody did, then he would discard the idea, himself. It seemed useless to try to impose something like that if it didn't matter.

"Not really," he answered with a half-shrug, flicking some hair from his face. His bangs were irritatingly long, but he couldn't bring himself to cut his hair.

Not anymore.

"My worries lie manly with surviving attacks from those that want to destroy our planet on some misguided nonsense about protecting it. Anything else simply... must be done. I do not care so much about what I must to do to bond with my Wonder, insofar as it's something I must to do protect my actual home. There is little point in worrying over it—it must be done, so it will be."

"Oh," Lanting said. He supposed all of that made sense, and maybe he ought to be more like Dunnottar--focused on the real goals in front of them, like protecting Earth.

The problem was, Lanting still wasn't really sure he understood what those greater goals were. He'd never met any of those people Dunnottar was talking about, who wanted to hurt other people to protect the Earth, just the one monster he'd tangled with when he first became Lanting, and that obviously wasn't the same. But he guessed they had to be a real problem, just...not one he knew anything about.

"I mean, that makes sense. I just...it seems like our Wonders and all of that are kind of tied in with our ability to protect Earth? So I...really want to get this right."

Dunnottar hummed a little bit, tilting his head curiously at Lanting. He seemed so nervous. It was something he just... honestly did not understand. Had he faced no real threats in his life? To be so frightened of screwing up something that the Code itself had practically said was very simple, it just needed to be done, and quickly? He highly doubted the Code would punish anyone—it was some kind of godlike entity, sure, but its... well... moral code didn't seem to dictate anything of the sort. Not if it was in charge of Knighthood.

"From what I understand, they are," he said, attempting to be gentle. "But getting it right should be easy. Find the piece, say hello, come home. The Code didn't seem like it had any doubt we could do it, no matter how early or late we were in Awakening."

Lanting nodded, firmly. They could totally do this, Dunnottar was right, and he was being totally stupid.

"Alright, so...we'll each go to our Wonders, and then meet back here, and that way we can be sure we went and got back safely." It seemed like a totally reasonable way to handle it. "See you in a couple hours, I guess?"

DUnnottar nodded. "See you then."
