The coldest part of winter was over and so began their journey towards the northern mountains of Zena. While Katori knew she would miss the comforts of home, the hybrid was also eager to explore and to help her companion resolve his own mission. Companion? Was that a good word for Finn, considering all the changes to their relationship? Katori frowned at the thought, shoving the final pieces of her belongings into her travel bag as they prepared to leave last night’s camp to continue forward. “We should hurry if we want to get through the mountain pass before nightfall.” Even though the first blooms of spring had arrived the northern areas of Zena didn’t really hold much warmth while the rest of the country brightened, the snowy mountains barely changing despite the shifting seasons. It was always cold there and while Katori knew they had to make the journey there was always the temptation to just turn around and seek warmth while they still could. Once they crossed this mountain path though? Well, it would be snow and ice for quite a few weeks going forward until they finally turned back towards the south once more. And as if the skies were agreeing with her a few flakes of snow slowly floated downwards from gathering clouds, the first sign that something might possibly go awry once they entered those mountains.

Despite the season and the multitude of layers covering his skin Finn still felt the chill nipping at him. While he was physically the healthiest he'd ever been the Yaeli was still thin with little in the way of fat to insulate him. He was prone to a shiver even under the warmest sun and at night he dreamed of Oba. The absurdity of it caught him more than once; he'd hated the country and everyone in it, had cursed the sands that burned his bare flesh, but still...It was where he'd been reunited with Tac, where he'd first met Katori, and maybe...maybe that made it a little more bearable.
A large, fuzzy head pressed against him and nearly knocked the Yaeli off his feet. "Biscuit, go away.." The little mammu just looked at him, gave a curious noise and moved in again until he pointed at Katori. "Go bother her." Instead of doing any such thing the mammu calf simply looped it's trunk around Finn's ponytail - as it would a mother's tail - and hung around while he packed up.
Biscuit had certainly grown during their time at the sanctuary and while Finn thought he was already an overgrown bother he'd been assured - multiple times, by multiple people - that Biscuit would triple his size in the next year. How many times had he tried to leave the orphaned calf back at the sanctuary? Had tried to get him to bond with the others, anything or anyone other than himself and yet - here he was.
At least he was big enough to carry some of their things.
Once he had everything wrapped up he crossed the space between him and Katori, Biscuit trailing along behind him. "Do you think we'll make it?" Finn grimaced, his eyes traveling to the sky above.
