Kalua cursed and ducked under the first bit of covering she could find. The Moakai had known about the storm - who hadn't? With all of this wind! - but the intensity of it was enough to ruin her plans. She'd been out and about, trying to set up a new job when the light drizzle had started to shift into a downpour so harsh it was difficult to see. Pressing her back against the wall, she looked up from underneath the awning toward the sky, only for an angry wind to throw a spray right at her face.

Instead of fussing about outside she slid along the wall until she was able to fumble for the door handle and go inside. She was supposed to meet up with Lana to discover what they'd managed to find, but - well that idiot was probably fighting the rain at this point. And she...was stuck in a crystal shop? "How long has this been here?" Kalua murmured, momentarily forgetting the storm, at least until it caused the building to shake.

At least the rain and wind could wash the blood from their skin. Lanakila didn't seem as destressed by the storm as others scurrying to shelter currently were, they were actually rather enjoying it instead. The lanky Kahi simply kept to the alleys as the rain started to pick up, the feeling of the warm rain against their skin refreshing as they navigated through the city. If Kalua was out and about trying to get to a meeting spot for them...where would she have gone? Lana tilted their head towards the left and then back towards the right as they considered their options.

Finally, after pocketing the extra coin they had earned just before the storm hit, the Kahi ventured towards a store with crystals that had caught their attention. It had to be new, despite being useless trinkets for the most part Lana did enjoy looking at things like crystals on occasion. "Ah. Seems I chose correctly." They mused as they noticed Kalua, the Kahi wiping their fingers against their leggings as they moved forward with their hair and clothing dripping from where they had pushed through the torrential rain.

The door opening was enough sound to draw her attention, and the sight of the Kaha'iko brought a half-turned grin to her face. "Lucky." Bloody as ever. They may as well have been a Hapuna with as often as she saw them covered in blood. The red skin would have been a perfect disguise, but...well, subtly wasn't really Lana's style.

Her curls hung heavy down her back and even when she moved to brush them away from her face they didn't go far. If anything it just made the puddle at her feet grow stronger. "I'd give you something to wipe off with, but-"

"Oh my." An older voice called out from the back and when Kalua turned an elderly Hapuna came around the corner. Every move they made was shakier than the last and even with the walking stick she worried they might very well topple over. "You poor things; out in this weather. Must have been awful -" They made a sort of throat clearing sound as they took in the red missing with the water dribbling off Lana. "Are you hurt?"

Lucky? Lana tilted their head as if contemplating things. "Hmm. That could be a word for it." They preferred to think that they had good observational and deduction skills. Either way Lana kept wiping their hands against their leggings, the remnants of the bloody water staining the darker material with a swirling pattern. "It's fine." Lana replied as they stopped wiping their hands, the Kahi looking towards the elderly Hapuna. The urge to do something chaotic and disturbing was very strong, but a calculating look towards the windows and the storm raging about outside made Lanakila pause.

"It's nothing serious, just a minor mishap because of the storm." They replied finally, a crooked grin crossing their lips. It was best to play nice while they were stuck here. Kalua probably wouldn't appreciate it if Lanakila got them both kicked out before the rain stopped. If they didn't have to live with Kalua then perhaps they wouldn't care as much, but they could only handle so many complaints in one day. "Though I appreciate the concern and I apologize for the mess. Do you have a mop or rag? We can take care of the mess while it's storming."

The Hapuna gave knowing nod and a heartfelt 'mmm'. "Oh don't you apologize, love; I haven't seen a storm this bad since my Vira was still with us. It's a wonder you two made it here at all." She placed a hand over her heart for a moment, her clouded eyes turning toward the window as a gust of wind slammed against it. Kalua could only guess she hadn't managed to board them up because of her years, and with every gust the thick pane would shake all the more. "I've got some supplies in the back. Let me just get them." The crystal seller turned away with a murmur about possible leaks before hobbling toward the back of her shop.

In the meantime, Kalua stepped closer to that very same window to look out. What she saw made her tongue cluck. "We're going to be here for a while." The only light visible outside was the occasional burst of lightning and what she saw only made her want to stay inside more. Wind so strong it was peeling away some of the thatched roofs and the sea beyond was in turmoil.

As fascinating as it was to watch she definitely didn't want to be walking in it.

"Will this work? I've got these to help you dry with, this ones the cleanest so you can use it as a bandage if you need to, and -"

"A mop, perfect." Kalua smiled and held her hand out. "Thank you. Please, let me take care of the floor. It's the least I can do."

Oh, it would just be too easy. Lanakila's gaze followed after the Hapuna, that calculating look continuing as they balanced the scales to see what options would be the most amusing in this scenario. It was a shame that the older Hapuna was kind hearted and seemingly gullible. It would have been much more enjoyable to torment someone else in her stead, Lana not feeling as inspired in this situation to be as malevolent. They had gotten that out of their system prior to showing up at least, the crimson stained water proof enough of that. "I suppose we should behave then." They replied feeling a bit disappointed as their gaze went towards the window. It wasn't as if there was anything of true great value that they could see in the store, but perhaps spending an hour or however long it took for the storm to calm down could prove otherwise.

"Thanks." Lana nodded their head, the motion nearly as awkward as them closing their fingers around the cloth. They waited for the older hapuna to take a step backwards, the woman distracted by a banging shutter on the opposite side of the store, and once the hapuna fully turned away it was then that Lana even studied the cloth. Nothing was on this, right? They looked towards Kalua, nearly tempted to have her sniff for any strange herbs that could harm them in the material, but then they decided to do it by themselves. Just a light sniff to make sure...their nose crinkled at the mustiness before they pulled up their sleeve to wrap the cloth around the scratch marks there. Desperate begging before the fun began, not that it had truly made Lana bleed that much, but it was something to wrap up at least just for appearance's sake. The hapuna would have probably fainted if she learned the blood wasn't from Lana and that this was only a remnant of what was left after the rain had washed the rest away. Though maybe that would have been more amusing...

As it was they turned back towards Kalua, amusement in their expression at the sight of the other Kahi holding a mop. "I'm assuming you already know that this means the plans are docked for the night? They'll be extending their own stay...looking for someone missing takes time and the storm will only slow them down." A vague comment, but hopefully enough to let her know that the plans would be delayed even if Lana didn't specify what type of state they would find the missing person in once the storm did fade away and the new search began.

For a moment Kalua 'mopped' the floor while her eyes tracked the bandage around Lana's arm. Surely that old woman wouldn't have put anything on it, right? She caught the Kahi's gaze, then settled on the cloth once again, but after a few minutes with no wooziness on Lana's part Kalua started to mop in earnest. It wasn't as if they could go anywhere anyway and doing something with her hands was better than standing by making idle chatter.

"It's a shame the rain will wash away all of that fresh paint too. I'm sure it was a beautiful piece." The one true advantage of working around storms was the way they tended to naturally hide crimes. As long as you didn't get swept away yourself. "I'm jealous; just means all of my art will have to wait." Probably for another few nights too, depending on how fast the piece was found and in what condition. Kalua wouldn't go out if the heat was high; she could afford to wait a night or two.

"Hah." A short laugh left Lana's lips. "It could have been better. There were some rough parts that couldn't be fixed properly." Someone would be limping for the rest of their days, that was for certain. "Still. There's some nice colors that work well together for your art." They added after a moment, wiping at a spot on the counter where they had trailed their fingers earlier. Some of the gemstones did look interesting, the sharp edges catching Lana's gaze as they looked over the display.

"I would go before the paint dries so that you can use it as well." It would take a bit for anyone to find them and in such a state there was no way that they would find anyone on their own. It would give them time to move before anything about leaked secrets or codes was shared by the one currently locked away in an abandoned building. Lana grinned at the thought, the Kahi walking around a display as they thought about things. "Do we have coin for some shopping while we're stuck here?" Best to go about things in a simple manner, being stuck in a storm might play to their favor if the timing could be stretched. That would be simple enough, especially if the older Hapuna's memory could be made fuzzy if someone did snoop around this particular neighborhood.

"Not as much as I would have had, but we have enough if you see something you want." If the shopkeep hadn't been so frail she would have suggested taking what they wanted, but petty theft left Kalua with a sour taste in her mouth. Just because they could do it didn't mean it was worth the effort. She wanted a little thrill, whether it was a fight or a heist, and just pilfering something from an old woman who could barely walk was boring.

When she'd finished with the bigger spills Kalua made sure no remnants remained and wrung it out into a bucket the shopkeep had set out with it. She nudged the bucket close to the door to make it easier to empty once the storm died down and propped the mop up beside it.

"That works." It didn't need to be something major for them to purchase, just a little trinket to prove that they were here in case more guards ever came sniffing around Kona's home. They would even endure some conversation if they had to, Lana looking over their shoulder to see if the older Kahi had come wandering back yet. Outside the rain was pelting against the windows, some even hitting harder like pieces of hail, and the howling of the wind made them assume that they would definitely be here for a bit. So they might as well make the most of their time, a good alibi.

"Hmm." Lanakila held up a jagged stone, the rough edges making them curious about how painfully it could cut into someone. "That one matches you." They gestured towards another gemstone of cut fluorite, the smoother pendant piece hanging by woven threads.

"It does, doesn't it?" Kalua lifted the gemstone and twisted it between her fingers. "Maybe I should take it home? I could take the stone and attach it to a choker instead." Having anything that dangled that low was a liability, but having a bit of jewelry close to the chest wasn't a harm to anyone.

She was holding it up to her current necklace when the older Hapuna made her way back to the pair. It was more obvious now that the constant movement wasn't something she was used to and it was starting to wear on the poor thing.

"Tell you what; if you two don't mind helping me with one more little project I'll let you have what you want half off. I just need some assistance blocking up these windows. It'd be a shame if the wind ruined 'em."

A hint of a smile crossed Lanakila's lips. They enjoyed bargains and so the strange feeling of just helping out was eased slightly whenever the deal was presented to them. They did truly enjoy getting something out of their work, after all. "We can do that." Lana replied towards the hapuna with a nod. "Just tell me where the materials are and we can fix them up." They would have to work quickly, but it wasn't a problem since Lana was used to working with various tools both for Kona and for other reasons. They looked over towards Kalua after they spoke, giving a slight inclination of their head as if confirming that she was also alright with this deal. It would save them some coin and give them something to do to pass the time, so why not?

"I've got some planks in the back store room; you can't miss it, I left the door open when I got the mop. Everything else to board them up should be up here...around the desk I think?...or maybe the store room." The older Hapuna gave a pondering 'hmm' and went about looking.

Kalua may not have enjoyed physical labor, but she wasn't unused to it and anything that saved them coin in the end was worth it. She nodded towards Lana and stepped up next to the Hapuna to look around the desk. "Is this what you're looking for?" She lifted a thicker hammer and turned to the shop keep. "I found a little crate of nails too. Looks like they're thick enough for the job."

"Oh yes! Wonderful dear, simply wonderful~ And here I was worried I wouldn't be able to get them on in time before the storm hit. Someone was looking out for me today."

Or someone was keeping an eye on us. Whatever entitty had started the storm certainly was keeping them from doing their work, but in the end there was only so much Kalua could do to fight it. Instead, she shoved it to the back of her mind and got to work.

Lanakila simply followed, the Kahi keeping quiet for the remainder of the afternoon as they floated about the shop to do repairs. It was best to keep their hands busy with the storm raging about outside so that they didn't give into any unnecessary temptations while trapped here. At least the older hapuna was good at filling in the quiet, her chatter and various questions keeping them quite occupied for a majority of the storm. All Lana had to do was nod their head on occasion, their mind elsewhere while the winds howled outside.
