"I really didn't mean it." Zariah blinked at the little figurine that she had in her hands. She had spotted it on her grandmother's shelf and had decided to pick the thing up to play knights versus monsters with, the girl having a few various wooden figures that she collected to fight with each other. Of course the pixie figurine would be a perfect ally, the winged creature catching her eye in the sunlight with how its crystal wings gleamed. She just hadn't realized it was quite so delicate, the outstretched arm breaking when she stumbled with the piece. Now she was at a loss of what to do, the usually bold and stubborn girl's gaze burning with tears as she simply stared at the injured pixie. It wasn't as if she could just will the arm back onto the body, right? So what did she do now?

The kitchen was warm and filled with delicious scents! He and his mother had spent the last hour preparing dinner for the family, and he had been thrilled to help out. When he was told to start rounding up the family, he scurried to fetch his grandparents and his sister. "Zariah. Zariah, time to eat." He turned into where he thought she was and stopped short. Was that grandmother's pixie figurine?! "Zariah? What happened?"

"I-I..." For once the girl was truly at a loss for words and instead tears simply began to fall onto her cheeks as her brother questioned her. How did she fix this? Could she even do anything? Her vision was blurry as she held up the figurine, once more trying to figure out how to get the arm back into place as she gingerly positioned it. Maybe some sap or something? There was some sap that she could get from the small bushes that grew in the garden....or maybe there was something else in her grandparents' cabinets that she could use? Zariah tried to stop her fingers from shaking as the thoughts kept racing through her mind, the youngling sniffling as she tried to stop her tears and look at Coleus. "I-I want to fi-fix it."

It was so rare to see his sister looking so lost and uncertain. Coleus' protective brother instincts immediately kicked in to override the panic of seeing their grandmother's figurine broken. Grandmother was scary when she was angry, and this was sure to do just that. "Hey, we can fix it," He assured as he walked over for a closer look and to rest his hand on Zariah's shoulder encouragingly. The pixie's arm... Hopefully they could fix it... "Let's look in the sewing room. I bet mama and grandmother have glue or sap in there somewhere."

"Mmkay." Zariah blinked the tears from her eyes, raising her shoulder so that she could rub her face against the material of her shirt, and started towards the sewing room. She had been thinking about things like that when she took a moment, the girl trying to ease the racing panic in her chest. If it was mama and papa it would be shameful, but she was even more afraid of disappointing her grandparents. So she would have to do her best to fix this! "Maybe there?" She gestured towards a cabinet in the sewing room, hoping that they could find something inside while she cleared a spot on the table to place the pieces of the pixie. It was kind of a clean break, at least? Maybe they could figure this out....just maybe.

Okay. Okay. They could do this! They could make this work! Though, wouldn't it be best to actually tell their grandmother what happened? That would be the right thing to do... Oh, but the idea sent chills down Coleus' back. Maybe it would be right, but it would also be so bad.He crept as quickly and quietly as he could with Zariah into the sewing room and walked over to the cabinet. He licked his lips and carefully pulled it open. Needles, various threads, paper, bandages, knives... ah! Two small jars held a creamy off-white goo, so he grabbed both and brought them to the table for Zariah to see. "I think it's one of these. I've seen mama use it on her projects before. Just take one of these little sticks to put it on the pieces that need to be put back together and hold it for a while."

Zariah gingerly put the pieces of the broken figure down, the girl's eyes still brimming with tears as the arm teetered slightly before settling against the figurine. If they couldn't fix it then she would just have to let her grandmother know it was her fault and try to find a replacement somehow...the very thought made her chew the inside of her cheek nervously before she looked back towards Coleus.
"You sure?" She asked, blinking as she looked over the jars and then back towards her brother. Not like they had many options, so why not give it a try? Zariah nodded at the realization before gesturing towards the pieces. "Do you want to get the goo ready and I'll hold them? Will that work?" She managed, the girl trying to find her calm despite the wet stains that still traced down her cheeks from her earlier tears.

Coleus chewed gently on his lip. Was he sure? He looked over to Zariah, but seeing her face.. "I'm sure!" he announced, much more confidently than he actually felt. He opened one jar and gave it a sniff. Did that smell right? He thought he remembered it. Maybe. "Besides, we can try the sap like you suggested if this doesn't." He swirled the goo with a detailing stick and scooted closer. "Okay. Hold it steady, and press them together when I say so."

"We can do it." Zariah said, the encouragement mostly for herself even as she spoke towards her brother. "Yeah." She nodded, thinking about the sap that she knew would be super sticky if this didn't work out. There was one time she got sap in her satchel and it was sealed shut for days! Surely it would work on the figurine if the goo didn't, but she was still hopeful that this would actually be successful.
"Alright, I'm holding it." Zariah confirmed after she aligned the arm with the body, trying her best to keep her hands from shaking as she held it there. "Maybe we can find an artisan who makes these too..." She mused quietly, trying to think that if they could get the figure to look okay from a distance at least that it could be secretly swapped out later. The youngling didn't like lying, but she also didn't want to make her grandparents angry so she was willing to dodge around the truth for the time being. As long as they didn't notice then she wasn't lying, right?

A little bit of the goo had gotten onto his fingers as he spread the glue and wiped up the excess. Content with the work, he stepped back and closed the jar. Despite his better senses, his intrusive thoughts quietly had him press his gooped fingers together. "That's a good idea, too," he agreed as he put the jars back. "We'll give this a few minutes though. We should be okay to wait in here."

"Yeah." Zariah nodded while she did her best to keep her hands still, the youngling hoping that the extra goo didn't stick to her fingers. "Maybe we can sneak it out and see if they can recreate the pixie." And at least it still had its other arms, the strange crystal creature posed with them outstretched and making it tricky for Zariah to hold onto. The last thing she wanted to do was to accidentally break another of its crystal arms or cover it with extra glue.
Soft footsteps down the hallway had her pause, Zariah nearly panicking even as she forced her body to stay still. Flailing now would only cause her to ruin the process and so she just had to hope that her grandparents weren't actually coming down this way. Closing her eyes tightly, the girl counted in her head and let out a sigh of relief when she didn't hear the steps going in their direction. "Okay, how much longer do you think I have to hold this?" Time was running short, especially if dinner was almost ready.

"Hopefully, it won't come to that," he murmured softly. A whole new figure would be expensive... and would they be able to find one exactly like this one to replace it? How close would it have to be for grandmother to not notice? He froze in place when he heard the steps. His eyes shot over to Zariah to make sure she was still and quiet. Good to see her standing strong! He watched the door closely, and didn't breathe again until he was sure the steps were headed elsewhere. With a sigh of relief, he hurried over to the table to peer at the pixie. He waited just a little longer. "Okay.. Try letting it go. Don't pull or anything, just let it go." He sucked in another breath to hold, his hands unconsciously closed into tight fists with anticipation.

Zariah took a deep breath, the concept of letting go of the figurine making her more nervous than the footsteps. "Here we go." She whispered, her voice barely a murmur as she slowly pried one finger after another away from the figurine. At first she was nervous that it would slip away from the body, but it looked like the arm was actually staying! A sigh of relief left Zariah's lips, the youngling looking at her brother with a bright grin.
"I think we did it!" She gushed quietly before peeking around Coleus again towards the door. So far, so good. "Maybe we'll push it towards the back of the display though and I can work really hard to save up some coin..." And then maybe by then she could do a simple swap so that her grandmother wouldn't notice the large crack going through the pixie's arm with some white showing through the crystal like a scar. "Thank you, Coleus." She added as an afterthought, the girl flashing a grateful smile towards her brother. "I owe you one." Truly, she didn't know what she would do without her brother helping her out.

It.. it was working! Coleus turned away to let out a hefty breath of relief. Thank the gods! He turned back for another look and smiled. "Can barely tell, I think! Might be better to put it back where it was. She'd probably notice it more if it went somewhere else." The thanks earned a big smile and he raised his hand to give Zariah a thumbs up. "You're welcome!" His eyes slid to his outstretched hand, and the smile swiftly turned into a frown. His thumb was stuck down... so were a couple fingers... Uh-oh.

"True." Zariah nodded at her brother's logic. It would make more sense to just try to blend it back in and not make the placement too obvious. She chewed her bottom lip as she contemplated things, the girl hoping for the best. If they got found out then so be it. She would take responsibility for her mistake then, if that happened.
Though she followed her brother's gaze to his hand, the girl finally letting out a soft laugh despite her earlier tears. "We'll uh...figure it out." Maybe Coleus could eat with one hand for now? Surely they could get that goop off somehow, especially when her own fingers still felt dangerously sticky. But first the figurine....then they could figure out the rest and hopefully slide into dinner without revealing any issues. Fingers crossed!
