(1/7) Yeah... Eujanie might've been spending more time in the town lately, but that didn't mean she enjoyed tromping through the wilds with her father any less. Their little patch of heaven took a lot of effort from all of them, and while most of the time her dad handled patrols of the surrounding territory on his own, lately she had demanded he take her along with him more.
Which brought them out here now, inspecting the remains of a devoured aldabuck, trying to determine if it had been from a witu and, if so, how big the pack was. It was days old, so they probably weren't anywhere close by, so Eujanie wasn't too worried about it - except - "I bet it's a litter of pups. That's the only reason they'd be dumb enough to hunt in YOUR territory." She said with a scoff.

scarlett arbuckle heart Gaia bugged out and it posted like 3 different times, I'm so sorry for the chaos. lol I deleted the two dupes. While Uzumati had grown accustomed to patrolling on his own around the forest, it wasn't so awful having company at times. It shouldn't have shocked him that Eujanie would be more eager to explore out of his children, but her demand to tag along more had brought a happy surprise despite everything. Though it also did make Uzumati more wary, the man not wanting anything to happen to his daughter while they patrolled the more dangerous areas of the forest between their little home and the nearby town. And seeing those remains? Well, it definitely put him on high alert as he studied the area. "Hmm." Uzumati did nod at the statement, considering the option of a wandering witu and pups. It was that or maybe a rogue who had been chased from its territory into this one, not understanding that it was an earthling who had claimed the land over the normal scents left behind by other witu to mark their territory.
Still, it would learn soon enough. Uzumati crouched next to the decaying beast and lowered his hands so that he could feel the temperature of the body. It probably had been killed over a few hours ago right before dawn, there wasn't enough bloating but it was a bit too cool to be considered fresh. The meat was ripped away in a wild manner, not leaving much room to see exactly what type of fangs had dug into the beast which probably did mean that there were at least two different beasts that had made a meal of the poor buck. The ground was too dry, there not being a good rain in days now, so he couldn't easily track prints either. So it would be based on any disturbed grass and potentially marks along the trees if the witu had decided to try to scratch its mark into the area already.
And there it was. Uzumati noticed the broken blades of grass heading west, a bit north of their home but still dangerously close. They would have to head that way to make certain a rogue hadn't invaded the woods or to figure out how to handle a witu building a den with pups in the area. Uzumati sighed softly before nodding towards Eujanie, motioning for her to follow him along the trail and not realizing that the clouds were quickly gathering on the horizon.

(2/7) The girl rocked on the balls of her feet, watching with interest as her father investigated the corpse. His intelligent eyes tracked around the area, and she followed his gaze until she caught on. She wasn't necessarily a good tracker - she was better with her hands, with processing leathers or putting things together, but her father had always been patient in his lessons to her and it only took her a few moments to catch on.
Eujanie padded along her father eagerly, occasionally shooting fond glances up at him as they walked. Here and there, they paused for him to further track their quarry, and soon they'd trailed deeper into the woods, where the trees crowded close enough that the overcast sky was less obvious.
At least, until a fat raindrop landed on her nose. Eujanie paused, blinking, raising her hand - in time to feel more rain pattering through the leaves.
Then, as if satisfied with catching them by surprise, the sky opened and the rain began in earnest.
