An Honest Accident

Sometimes, accidents happen. Your character has found themself in a situation where an honest accident has resulted in an item being broken. Possibly your own, or you may have broken someone else's. Was it an item at a shop, or a priceless artifact? How does your character react to the honest mistake?

Sometimes a race was just a race. It was sometimes a sporting event where several members of Sulburi’s elite were present and bets the weight of a lesser man’s savings were made on individual runs. Xaraan racing in lower circles was an outwardly vicious sport where both jockeys and the animal’s handlers competed for notoriety. Love of the sport took second place, but here – Well, Sekani was able to seen a side to it.

If he were a smarter man he might have seen the dirty dealings behind bright smiles or the genuine excitement shown by some of the younger children who had come with their families. He’d been offered to come along with his team – not as a rider, but as a handler – and Sekani easily agreed. It was a chance to see something grand; something he’d not yet experienced and something he so desperately wanted to see again! Grand displays of flowers and strange plants adorned every entry way, occasionally draping across xaraan statues and some of the elite themselves. It was a gorgeous event, but truthfully he was more impressed with the xaraan themselves.

Some of these beasts were easily twice the size of any his team had come in with and the money spent on their saddles…By the spirits above it would pay his rent for the next five years.

"Hey, Kani?"

Turning his head, he caught his bosses eye and moved closer the older Matorian. In his day he'd been a devil of a racer, but now the old man struggled to move. The team made up for it by taking on a lot of his work, but Sekani knew he wanted more.

"Yeah?"

"Got any water?"

Sekani shook his head. "No, sorry, I can grab some for you if you want."

"Oh, no, it's okay. It's too far to walk."

Before he could even mention the lounging area next to them his boss shook his head. "You can't go there; that's for the fancy people. We don't get that stuff."

"I'll be quick; they'll never even notice me." Even as Sekani was backing up the old man tried to reach out for him, but Sekani just smiled. "Real quick." All he had to do was sneak in, grab some water, and get back out. What could happen?

It was rare that Cahira went to see a xaraan race in the city, but since she was in the area the swordswoman had agreed to go to an event just to represent her family since her younger brother was caught up with work. "Though I suppose this is work of some type, right?" She mused as she tossed her curled hair over a shoulder, the more formal attire for the lounge that she was currently in just as stifling as she remembered. She much preferred her fighting leathers to layers of silk, the material something she never truly understand in terms of fashion. But then again she was certain if she brought up anything about the different types of sword fighting styles or even various blade shapes those topics would go over the heads of the girls that chattered in little groups together. Cahira had tried to endure some of the conversation, recognizing the disappointment in some faces when others realized her brother wasn't here today, but eventually she had scooted closer and closer towards the refreshment table while waiting on the races to begin. And now here she was, just chilling in front of some snacks with a wine glass in hand to help pass the time.

Sabra Knight

Sekani snatched a wet rag on his way to the lounge and behind a large, sculpted plant he was able to 'freshen up' before ditching the evidence. Absolutely nothing about his outfit spoke of 'wealth', but he was hoping as long as he was quick no one would notice. As long as he didn't touch anything or make too much noise it shouldn't be that hard to find some water, right?

So far so good. He'd managed to slip in by sticking close to the tails of the wait staff, and while a few dignitaries were busy chatting about business Sekani maneuvered behind them. Years of being the youngest in a big family had given him enough social awareness to know who was more likely to see him and who wasn't, so he tried to use that to his advantage. It's what brought him within eyesight of the refreshment stand - so close all he had to do was reach out for a glass - his fingers were ghosting along the stem of a cup of water, lifting it just off the table....

When he caught sight of a familiar figure. At first he hadn't recognized her, so keen was Sekani on getting out but the momentary pause was his downfall. Next thing he knew a hand was on his shoulder, wrenching him around and in his shock Sekani had dropped the glass.

"What do you think you're doing?" An Oban snarled down at him. He'd never seen a man this big in his life. Even if the man's attire hadn't singled him out as a guard for the event his stature would have put anyone off.

"I'm sorry, I was just getting a glass of water-"

"Water for the guests." The man gave him a once over. "And you're not, but you still broke one of Lady Icosa's yaelish glasses anyway. Did you know that particular kind of glass is rare?"

s**t.
