“I think that would be a wise idea,” Mel agreed as she took a seat across from her friend before pulling out her phone to send Harvey a quick text that she likely wouldn’t be home for a few hours.

“I honestly almost wonder if we should give ourselves a day to rest before going to mine.” Going to Sava’s had been a fairly mellow experience, except for when she suddenly fell into a deep sleep, which left her with the feeling of the calm before the storm. Einhornhöhle had never been a particularly dangerous place when she’d visited in the past, yes there were places in the woods where it was wise to be careful where she stepped. But nothing bad has happened there.

Maybe this worried feeling was unfounded, but it was something that she couldn’t quite shake as she lifted the menu to see what soups were available to go with the sandwiches.

Before she could answer, the waitress came by their table with two glasses of ice water and straws. “What can I get for you two?” she asked with a cheerful tone that you’d expect from an old-fashioned diner.

“Hi, yes. Um-” Melody looked at the menu once more and real quick. “I’d like your grilled cheese sandwich with a soup and salad combo.”

Certainly, we have chicken noodle, tomato bisque, minestrone, and broccoli cheese. For salads, we have a garden salad, Caesar salad or a southwestern.” She recited each item without taking a breath as if this was something she rehearsed in nearly every conversation. Ingrained in her memory to the point she probably repeated it in her sleep.

“I’ll take the minestrone and garden salad with ranch dressing, please.” Melody then looked across the table at her friend then added. “We’re going to be on one check. Whatever you want, it’s on me.”

“No problem, dear” the waitress looked to the brunet with rainbow bangs. “What can I get you sweetheart?”

“I’ll bring you a small bowl of extra cheese on the side,” the woman gave her a wink before scribbling the last of her notes on the small piece of paper. “Let me know if there’s anything else you two need.” she added before retreating to the back counter where she passed the order into the kitchen area.

Once she was out of earshot range, Melody shook her head and chuckled softly. How people could be so awake at this time was beyond her, but friendly as well, it was like finding a unicorn. But some people just had that level of charisma and were undaunted by anything.

“Don’t worry, I don’t think you’re a freak for wanting more cheese. I know a few people who can’t stomach it and would rather suffer the consequences than give it up.” Not that she could blame them because knowing herself, Melody would do the same thing. “I wouldn’t mind checking out the food truck though, sounds like it’d be right up my alley.” Something to do over the weekend, maybe.

“But to address what we were talking about before. I think I’ll reserve deciding what we’re going to do until after we eat. This might give us enough energy to keep going, or might just land us both into a food coma.” She laughed knowing that it was probably a solid 70% chance of being the latter. Even though Sava had not been conscious when they were on her Wonder, Melody knew that she was by no means resting.

“I appreciate it, thank you. And if you need help with cleaning up your wonder, I’m happy to go back with you.” Though she wasn’t sure where they would put the debris since it wasn’t like there was any sort of galactic waste management facility that came to pick up broken branches or drop off pisces of shattered glass. Something they’d have to figure out later.

”Alright Ladies, I have the Broccoli and Cheese Soup with extra cheese,” the hot steaming bowl was set in front of the woman with darker colored hair. ”And I have the Minestrone with the side salad,” both were set in front of the woman with lavender eyes and ombre colored hair. ”And a grilled cheese for each.”

The final plates were added to the table, but before the waitress left she kindly asked ”Is there anything else I can get for either of you?”

Melody shook her head, “No I think this is good, thank you though.” She received a warm smile and a polite nod before the waitress left so they could enjoy their meal. Leaning forward she inhaled the aroma of mixed vegetables and warm broth of the soup she’d ordered. “Smells delicious,” Melody commented before picking up a wedge of her sandwich and dunking it in the warm broth.

The first bite did not disappoint. Hot, definitely, but tasty enough to come back to some time if she found herself in the area for sure. “I’m glad you suggested this place.”
