Truth or Dare has always been a fun and thrilling game that a youngling experienced as they grew up. But even adults may find themselves challenged to tell a secret or take on a dare. Which one will you pick, and how does it all play out?
[ Play out this prompt response by your character responding to a truth or a dare. If you're playing with another character, both will need to respond to their own individual challenge. If this is a solo, play out the response as if challenged by an NPC. ]
Adjusting to her new 'normal' was just as awkward as Nimia had assumed it would be. She wasn't unhappy with the changes - far from it, actually - but opening herself up to the two new members of their family was a slow going process. The young Matorian worried at times that by pushing herself on them she was crowding the boys and yet by keeping herself away she was showing them she didn't care-
-which led to a whole mess of things in her head. What if they never liked her? What if they thought she never liked them? Furrowing her brow, Nimia closed the book she'd been reading and sat it off to the side. Their trip northward had been stalled for a few days due to storms, but now that they'd passed they were just giving it a day for the roads to dry, which left her with a little time to try something. Nimia left her perch near the wagon and lifted a hand to call out, "Jex?" Even her call wasn't loud; not nearly as loud as others in their caravan, anyway. Would he even hear her?

With the passing of the rains, the other parties were either packing up or already gone, and soon Jex and his new family would be on the road as well. Going all the way to Zena... Despite the assurances that they had enough food, he couldn't help taking time to collect nuts from one of the nearby trees.
He'd turned the front of his shirt into a pouch to carry his foraging loot back to the carriage when he saw one of his new sisters stand up. Jex froze in place and waited a long moment. Maybe she wouldn't notice him..
Oh, his name? His eyes darted side to side for Ilmryn, but the other boy was out of sight. He wouldn't be able to hide the nuts away at this rate. Well, Nimia wasn't too bad so far. Maybe she wouldn't take any of them?
He cautiously crept up around the wagon to where he would be seen, but still plenty outside of reach, before he cleared his throat. "Jex is here."

Nimia tugged on the cuff of her sleeve as she walked. It was a nervous habit, one she'd picked up as a child but during their stay in Jauhar she'd had to switch things up a little bit. Having longer sleeves meant staying hotter and that just hadn't worked. So she'd shifted to three-quarter length tops, then shorter sleeves until eventually her bare arms were bare and now she was beyond glad to get back to her sleeves.
"Oh, good." She offered him a relieved smile. Losing the boy so soon after adding him to the family would have been terrible and...well, wouldn't that be the thing, if the one she hadn't expected to escape actually did. "What are you up to?"

The boy couldn't help giving a tiny smile in return. It was still so odd to Jex that these people actually wanted him around, but those happy faces seemed genuine, and that was encouraging.
Still, his expression grew wary when he was asked about his business, and his hands tightened protectively on the makeshift pouch. Should he tell her..? Getting caught lying could turn out worse though. "Getting... food," he murmured. "Nuts. ...Can Jex keep them?"

Nimia carefully tucked her hair around her finned ear before crouching down to be at Jex's height. She made sure not to get too close, so he wouldn't feel crowded, but close enough that he could see she was interested. Baba had told her to approach being a big sister like taking on a new pet; show them love, teach them, but also be a little stern when you had to. It was harder with Fiadah since they'd been the same age, but maybe with Jex she could set an 'example'.
An example of what, though, she wasn't sure.
"Of course you can." She eyes widened a bit around the glasses. Was he...was he really that worried she would take food from him? "Actually, I have some sweet roots, if you want them too." Nimia reached for a pouch at her side, unclasped it and handed it over to the little shifter. "Grandpa Callum showed me how to find them in Sauti. If you like them I can show you where to get them too."

Jex perked up with the given approval. Now he just needed to keep anyone else from noticing it! Or, would they be okay with it like Nimia was? One could hope... His eyes widened slightly, and he hesitated a moment before accepting the pouch. Food was just too much of a temptation to resist. "What do you.. want for them?" he asked warily. Even most of the other kids at the center wouldn't give something without expecting a return. He just hoped it was nothing too crazy.

"Maybe you could play a game with me? I think that would be a fair trade, don't you?" She ran a hand over her knees and tucked her arm around the material over her shins. "Being on the road for so long can get pretty boring so I'd really like something fun to do."Liar. She loved being on the road because no one - Fiadah - asked her to get into crazy situations and it was the perfect excuse to tuck up in a cart with her reading. Since she doubted a child would care for that type of thing, let alone the books she chose to bring, she thought maybe a little game like she'd played as a girl might work best.
"How about truth or dare? I'll even go first and pick dare."

Ah-ha! There was always- ..something? Jex cocked his head. "A game?" He could only take her word for if road trips were boring, having never been on one himself. From what he understood, this was going to be a much longer trip than from his original home had been.
"Jex can play," he conceded. It was a small price to pay to keep his food. She chose dare. Hmm. Ah! This would be good! He couldn't hide the pleased smile on his face. "Jex dares you to lick your elbow."

Nimia's eyes widened. "Lick my elbow?" Raising her right arm, she looked at her elbow, and then the other arm. Maybe if she..Scrunching her eyebrows, the mage did her best to pull her left elbow closer to her face before giving up and trying the other side. All she got for her efforts were wet sleeves and a crick in her neck.
When she was good and tired, Nimia gave up with a sigh. "Sorry Jex, I tried!"

Jex's eyes widened with interest as Nimia began her attempt. Maybe she would actually reach..? ..nope. Swiftly enough, he was giggling with delight and a hand over his mouth to muffle himself, his other hand carefully keeping his shirt pouch in place. His eyes shimmered with his amusement until Nimia gave up. "So silly!"
A hint of concern crossed his features knowing it was his turn. What should he pick? He didn't want to get dared something impossible... "Jex picks truth." He braced himself for the question when he realized- "Oh, wait! What do you gotta do since you couldn't do it? Can Jex have your bread roll at dinner?"

The back of her neck was warm with an embarrassed flush, but that was okay, right? To be laughed at just this once? At least he was having a good time and wasn't hiding away or snapping at people. If anything it brightened her own smile, albeit with a decidedly violet tinge to her frilled ears. "I guess that's only fair, since I couldn't do it."
It wasn't as if she wouldn't give it to him anyway if he asked.
"Truth? Hmm, what to ask, what to ask..." Nimia dramatically tapped her lower lip with her index finger. "Oh! I know! What's your favorite animal?"

Wow! A whole extra roll for dinner! Jex doubted he could get away with such a dare again, but someone out there had to be able to lick their own elbow! A double treat though was seeing Nimia's reaction. He'd never seen someone turn purple before! Well, not since Jesurni choked on that pinchfruit. Nimia wasn't choking though. How interesting...
Jex's brow rose, unable to hide his curiosity. What was Nimia going to ask of him? "Favorite animal?" He pursed his lips and looked down to think. There were so many animals out there.. but one did stick out in his head. "Kipepwa," he confirmed confidently. "They got lots of wings and all colorful and can fly wherever they want."

"Ooo, I love that, Jex. They sound beautiful." She'd heard a few of the adults talk about sightings while they were in Jauhar, but not once had Nimia gotten the chance to see one. She hadn't particularly tried, given how far up they liked to stay, but the thought was charming enough.
"You know who else would love to hear about them? Papa Koril. He's really smart and he knows a lot about animals, but maybe...maybe he doesn't know everything about the kipepwi. Sure seems like someone who loves them as much as you do could help out with that."

Jex smiled warmly as the approval rained down on him. He really did like the kipepwa. He had spent more than a few evenings pretending to be one. What would it be like to be able to just fly away into the trees and sky whenever he wanted..?
Wary interest took over his features at the mention of one of the adults. Papa Koril. That was the one with the crazy red hair. Could they.. could they really have something to talk about? What if he didn't know as much as Nimia thought? What if Papa Koril already knew everything and found the conversation boring and annoying?
Then again, would it really hurt to try? He shuffled his feet shyly and shrugged. "Maybe."
