Quote:
Featured in this RP are: Muri, Ida, Volterra, Kerberos, Illyria, and an early cameo from Yuki!

Reiki hated keeping everybody waiting. He really did. Especially tonight, of all nights.

As he darted and ducked through the alleys between Scandals and North-End Park, he tried to think of anything that he could say for himself. Like, taking a ******** while on the quest into Mirrorspace—sure, that part, everybody had probably expected. Reiki talked like an absolute ********> shut up,” Levi had snapped at him, “always talking, always justifying”—so it only stood to reason that a confrontation with the Mirrorspace knock-off of him would talk anybody’s ear off and that arguing with it would take some time. But Reiki had distinctly not expected for Elsa to show up, and he hadn’t expected for them to end up in some kind of confrontation like they had.……

Honestly, it would’ve been easier on his heart if Jet had shown up with a mind to decapitate him for trying to purify when Faustite stood to be hurt by him doing so. While that would’ve been infinitely more dangerous in a physical sense—infinitely likelier to end up with Reiki’s starseed imprisoned in the Negaverse or chomped on or something—Reiki couldn’t begrudge anyone from the Negaverse any hypothetical attempts at killing him before he could join the faction that they considered the enemy. No hard feelings.

Unlike Elsa’s failure to understand him, now.…… Even knowing that Elsa wasn’t well right now, Reiki couldn’t deny how badly it had stung, to feel like purification meant that he had to forfeit all right to Elsa’s understanding.

As Reiki finally closed in on Kerberos’s bench in North-End Park, he tried to shove all of those feelings down. They didn’t matter right now. They couldn’t matter right now. Not with so many more important things that needed handling.… Counting the auras on the final leg, Reiki figured that he had to be the last one showing up: two White Moon eternals (so, Ida-hime-sama and Blossom), one Dark Mirror basic (that’d be Volterra), and one White Moon Mauvian (unless they turned out to be Viatrix or Mister Sparkles the Death-Dealer, Reiki couldn’t think of who they might be, but he supposed that he’d find out soon enough, having forgotten that Ida had offered for her bonded Mauvian to come). Getting close enough to count heads, he finally picked out the civilian, sitting in the spot on Kerb’s bench where Reiki himself usually sat, and the precious angel who had done nothing wrong ever in her life sitting beside him.

Goooorgeous,” Reiki sighed heavily, swooping in behind Yuki specifically and gently ruffling his hair, “I told you that you and Cersei could go home, didn’t I?” Glancing at Ida-hime-sama and Kerberos, he added, “I hope Gorgeous has been behaving himself?”
PostPosted: Thu Apr 11, 2024 1:40 pm

“Oh yeah, sure, like I’m the one in this relationship with the dubious track record about behaving himself,” Yuki teased.

Strictly speaking, there were probably several places Yuki could have been right now that would have been much safer than sitting here, on this bench, where some of this town’s magical weirdos apparently liked to hang out. Given his druthers. Yuki would have preferred to be somewhere safer. In general, he chose to support ******** in all of his magical boy shenanigans—not least because ********, headstrong and feisty as he was, would go and get himself involved in them regardless of anybody’s approval, so it was overall better for Yuki to just support him and make sure ******** had somebody in his corner. But supporting ******** didn’t mean that Yuki wanted to be involved, himself.

Staying at this particular bench didn’t seem like a good plan for staying uninvolved……but as ******** apparently—swooped in to ruffle his hair, Yuki huffed good-naturedly. “You did say that,” he agreed, tilting his head back so he could look at ******** (even a ******** who seemed upside down from Yuki’s current perspective). “But your ‘good influence on you, your overall well-being, and your choices and behaviors’ magical girl friends have been cool and sweet while I’ve been telling them about how you got me to quit vaping. Plus, Cersei didn’t want to leave yet and she’s been behaving with Illyria-sama, so……” Yuki shrugged. “Here we are.”

Which would’ve been a perfectly nice place to leave things off on—except, even upside down, ******** seem completely on-kilter by his standards. While he wasn’t slouching, Yuki could tell more strain than usual was going into ******** keeping his posture decent, and the fondness in the look he gave Yuki didn’t cancel out how it looked like ******** was right on the brink of a crying meltdown. Considering tonight was supposed to be a happy occasion, Yuki could only imagine that this meant one thing: Something had transpired in between ******** and Haruhi going to Mirrorspace, and right now, this very moment.

“Okay,” he deadpanned, “what happened to get you here, and who do I have to kill?”

Maybe he’d only met Kerberos, Ida, and Illyria the Magical Cat tonight, but……Yuki hoped that his comment read as a joke and nothing more. It seemed obvious to him, given his status as a clearly non-magical video gaming journalist? But one never really knew how some people might take things.

“Ugh, nobody, thank you,” Reiki insisted, whining softly and gently swatting the backs of his fingers against the top of Yuki’s head. “Look, Mirrorspace was just a rancid little b***h to me, and sure, I expected that? But expecting it didn’t really help, y’know? In the moment, with me needing to listen to it, going on and on about its garbage opinions?”

Which Reiki personally thought should have sufficed as an explanation……except the way that Yuki arched a brow up at him indicated that he clearly disagreed. Considering how much Yuki was being made to deal with tonight……well. Reiki knew that they needed to get a move on, yes? But he also didn’t have the heart to deny Yuki a fuller version of the story, since all of this was so far outside his general comfort zone and likely to stay that way for a while. Maybe not the entire story

“So, the Mirror-Clone’s whole purpose is to trick me into staying, right,” Reiki explained, letting his shoulders sag because……he’d been ******** Through It with this whole process, and he was Tired. “I wanna leave, and it wants me to stay, so we’re at cross-purposes about this and blah blah, yadda yadda? Well, it shows up before me, looking like I do except dressed to the absolut nines, decked out like the Mirrorspace princess it wants me to be. And I’m like ‘You’re tacky and I hate you, ******** off.’ So, it’s like ‘Why don’t you stay, we could be great together, and I’ll make you cheap knockoffs of Elsa and Faustite who won’t hurt your feelings or do massive crimes against humanity or whatever.’

“To which *I* am like ‘Yeah, that’s nice, but it’s totally fake, and you’re totally fake, and at this risk of sounding like Holden Caulfield, all of this is some phony bullshit and literally everyone in the Court deserves better than the likes of you. But also, try offering princess status to somebody like Acubens or Hybris, who might actually want it.’” Reiki did not stop to consider if anyone else recognized those names. He knew he’d mentioned them to Yuki, Blossom, and Volterra before, in varying capacities, and as much as Reiki liked Ida-hime-sama—and as nice as her Mauvian companion, Illyria, likely was—the most they really needed to know right now was that Acubens-oneesan and Hybris were other Mirror senshi.

“Anyway, the whole conversation was incredibly dramatic—which I mean in a derogatory way? like, the absolute most derogatory way—and honestly, it felt kind of unnecessary? Like, I guess I get why Mirrorspace thought it wasn’t, but……gurl, get with the program. I have been bodily outside this door for months already. I only haven’t left sooner because I had some s**t to get in order and I didn’t want to ******** up my baby sister’s senior division figure skating debut when I know how hard she’s been working on it.” Rolling his eyes at all of Mirrorspace’s nonsense, Reiki shook his head and sighed. “Then, it tries to act like choosing my own happiness and well-being is some kind of self-harm or something, which……? Make it make sense, right?”
PostPosted: Thu Apr 11, 2024 1:41 pm

Listening to this whole ******** Story, Yuki frowned sympathetically and wrinkled his nose. About halfway through, he took a quick look around them, searching the horizons for any potential trouble. Sure, the magical people around here seemed to have some kind of danger sense or something, which should have alerted them to any looming issues? But other magical people in town probably had similar senses, which meant that they could have felt the gathering of four magical humans and one magical cat. Taking too much time here to let ******** vent some of his dramatics would probably risk everybody getting in trouble. Like, what if ******** was wrong about Mirror Prince Remarque being a reasonable person who would just let him and Volterra go without trying to stop them?

Or what if ******** little It’s Complicated decided to show up tonight and cause problems on purpose, the way that most of ******** stories about General-King ******** seemed to involve him doing in some capacity?

Or what if one of the aggro White Moon assholes Yuki had heard about showed up instead and they wanted to make a mess of everything?

Too many potential interruptions. Too many potential dangers. Too many reasons why ******** needed to get cut off from going on too much longer. So, even though Yuki could tell that Reiki wanted him to lean into the story and give him more room to continue, as he tilted his head back again, what Yuki said instead was, “You’re right, but riddle me this: are you only being so effusive with the details about Mirrorspace because something else happened that you’re not telling us?”

“……Yes,” Reiki said bluntly, finally letting himself slouch. No sense in trying to fake it or pretend otherwise, now that Yuki had called him out, honestly. “But it’s not something that will interrupt the important s**t, and I already asked Remarque to check in on it.”

This earned him another round of Yuki giving him That Look—the one that Yuki did when he knew that Reiki was withholding things—and that, in turn, earned Yuki another sigh. “I ran into Elsa before I came over, okay,” Reiki explained. “He wasn’t well. And he didn’t take it well when he saw this special little guy.” Huffing softly, Reiki rummaged around in his bodice so he could pull out his Mirrorseal. “And yes, I’m not exactly happy about hurting both of the boys I’ve romantically danced around by making this choice, but like……?”

Reiki shrugged. “I’m really bad at changing myself to make stupid boys happy anyway,” he said, wearily. “And if I say anything else about Elsa, I’m going to have a sobbing meltdown instead of getting our actual work here finished already, so……? How about we get on with the purification and I give you a rain-check on the rest of the story, okay, Gorgeous? Cash it in after Ida-hime’s helped us get out of Chaos and I’ve had a nap or five.”

“Sounds like perfect idea to me,” Yuki agreed.

Frankly, he didn’t like the sound of any of this. Reiki hadn’t told him who Elsa was, aside from how they’d known each other before ******** had joined the Court. So much the better for Elsa, because ******** had also said “You don’t understand, he’s really not well, not enough people in his life have ever been kind to him before” about General-King ******** and his assorted misbehaviors, which made Yuki kind of want to press his luck about fighting somebody with phenomenal magical power in defense of his boy’s honor. That sounded more than a little bit dangerous and like something ******** might not be happy about him doing, though, so fine, whatever, Elsa’s face could remain thoroughly un-punched.

“So……,” he said, looking at Ida, Kerberos, and Illyria, and skritching Cersei behind the ears for the sake of steadying his own nerves. “How…? How does this all work? ******** said space might be involved? And I’m fine to wait back here if that’s the case.” Yuki considered, for a moment, whether or not it was fair of him to add another detail. Ultimately, he decided that yes, it was: “******** wants my first trip to space to be his planet and—what? Am I supposed to say ‘No’ to him asking for something harmless just because it would make him happy?”

The longer they all stood there, the more tension gathered in Ida’s shoulders and neck. She loved Muri deeply, but this was the one time his habit of showering everyone with words was not as charming as she usually found it.

“I would like to take us all to my asteroid.” Ida jumped into the break in the conversation between Muri and his friend, taking the questions as a springboard. “It's safer there, as we won’t draw unwanted attention and we won’t be interrupted. It's probably also easier for me… Ida shares energy more freely when I’m there, and we’re going to need a decent amount, I think.”

Yuki got an apologetic smile from her as she twisted her fingers together, then spread them and offered him one of her hands, palm up. The glowing lines in her palm traced the shape of an orchid.

“If you want to wait for Murikabushi to take you for the first time, then that’s okay. But we should really go. It's safer to talk there and the longer we stay here, the more likely someone uninvited is going to join us.” She said, unconsciously echoing his thoughts. “It was good to meet you, and thank you for being supportive. I know this transition is very difficult, and having someone there even just for emotional support is a lot of help.”

Poor Yuki… she had all of her fingers crossed that this purification went well and she was able to bring Muri back to him unscathed, but different. The nerves of what they were about to do, what she was going to have to do, had been eating her alive since they had set the date. She’d been unable to sleep last night for them, worried about probably stupid things. Could she do it? Would she do it right? Would she hurt Muri or Volterra? Would something else happen to ruin the whole thing? Then there was the added complication of Muri’s cousin. Did she had enough in her to help both of them? Iris had collapsed after her attempted purification, and she remembered those false memories of other purifications taking everything she had… It was only the presence of Kerberos and Illyria that kept her from visibly vibrating with the tumult of emotions behind this. The expression on Muri’s face when he arrived, and the way Yuki called it out, only added to her worries. She wanted this to work. She would make it work.

“Once we are there and ready, I will use my crystal’s power to purge the chaos from what you and Volterra brought, Muri. I believe once that’s done, it will release it’s hold on your own starseeds.”

Illyria was worried about Ida. In the time that this plan of a purification had been finalized, there had been increasing signs that the pressure was getting to the one senshi that mattered the most to the Mauvian. It was why she had decided to come along to the meeting. There were all avenues of possibilities of things going awry but, for the first time, Illyria did not feel as if something like what happened during the attempted purification of Faustite would happen here. Of course, she’d been left behind on a rooftop during that battle, but it had probably been for the best. But now, she was center stage, even if her role was only that of a supporting character. It was part of her duty to Ida to be present whenever the Orchid senshi needed her to be there.

She hadn’t been aware at the time that she would have had to deal with the presence of a canine though. Illyria had been hesitant at first upon the sight of the civilian and the dog on the bench where everyone was supposed to meet up, but really, in retrospect, Cersei had been a fairly chill canine. There was the initial mistrust but as soon as Illyria saw that Cersei wouldn’t be an issue, she returned her focus to Ida.

After being extremely cautious, Illyria nimbly darted up Ida’s side in order to at least offer a soothing presence. Her gaze traveled to take in the sight of the dark mirror senshi that were wanting to be purified before simply wrapping her tail around Ida’s neck like a soft scarf of reassurance. Her gaze was steady even as her body began to vibrate with a gentle purr.

Volterra didn't even want to admit it to nemself, but ne was… a little scared of what was going to happen. Of course, ne wanted to be purified. Ne wanted this to happen. But it was still a bit of an unknown, and going to someone's asteroid was placing a lot of trust in a stranger. Of course ne trusted nis cousin, but Murikabushi did have a tendency to just… trust people he shouldn't. But this… ne really hoped everything would work out okay. At least their family would know. Ne wasn't sure they'd be able to do anything, but at least they'd know.

Volterra patted Cersei gently, trying to calm nemself and remain cool on the outside. "Good girl," ne said softly to her.

Then ne turned to Ida. "I'm ready when you are." Not really, but ne had to be.

Kerberos was nervous. Even after his talk with Murikabushi earlier, even knowing what was coming, even though he was fairly certain that all was set in stone—there was still a fear there. A fear that something might happen, some force might interdict, and Muri and his cousin wouldn’t make it back to them. That they might lose their friend for good.

When his cousin had joined them, and then when Murikabushi himself returned, Kerberos felt a lightness in his chest. This was real. It was happening. And unlike the last time he’d been witness to a purification, this one would not, Kerberos hoped, secretly be an ambush—not least because Murikabushi’s desire, at least, seemed deeply sincere. Kerberos knew his cousin less, but trusted that Muri wouldn’t bring someone to him and Ida that Muri didn’t trust, so….that was that.

He reached out and laid a hand on Ida’s arm.

“I’m here for extra energy, if you need me,” he promised, softly. Then, he looked between Volterra and Murikabushi, very seriously. “I don’t know if it’s different for you—your Chaos is very different than the Negaverse’s—but I will warn you: when Cosmos purified me, it hurt. But the pain is the magic working. Purging Chaos’s hold on your starseed.”

He gently squeezed Ida’s arm. “We’ll be safest in space, but it’s been good to meet you, Yuki. I’m glad to know we’ll be trusting Murikabushi’s well-being to someone who cares about him, when we bring him back.” He wondered if it might have been different, if he’d had someone waiting to catch him. Someone who knew him.

What-ifs that were pointless, now; Kerberos had found his way in the end. But he couldn’t help but wonder.
PostPosted: Thu Apr 11, 2024 1:44 pm

Yuki nodded, taking in everything that Ida and Kerberos had to say. He didn’t really understand……most of what was happening this? If he was honest? Sure, ******** had explained everything, multiple times at that, and Yuki understood the basic idea at the heart of this process? But many of the finer details either went over his head or crashed headlong into a feeling like This is not how reality works, though that sometimes still flared up, even after having ******** in his life for so long. He’d made certain notions of reality difficult to maintain, even before all of the magical girl whatsits had become real.

Whatever Yuki didn’t understand, though, fell quickly to the wayside as he looked up at his boy again.… Everything happening tonight was so important to ********, and that sort of faraway look in his face was concerning. Maybe it just meant that ******** was exhausted—like he’d hit his limit a while back and kept going anyway because he was Like That—and trying his best to process everything happening regardless? But in case it was something more than that, Yuki put his free hand (the one not currently holding Cersei’s leash) atop the hand of ******** that rested on Yuki’s shoulder. Tilting his head back again, he gave ******** hand a gentle squeeze.

“Hey,” he said softly, “you’re gonna be okay, remember? And Asher, Cersei, and I will be waiting at home when you and Volterra are done.”

“Asher’s a friend,” Reiki rushed to clarify for Kerberos, Ida, and Illyria. “And a housemate. And a Cosmos Knight, which……I just learned……earlier tonight……”

His sigh probably sounded more discontented than he wanted it to. More discontented than Reiki actually felt right now. He wasn’t having any second thoughts—as if he would dream of backing out of this idea now, after all the work he and Haruhi had put into getting ready for this and uprooting their entire lives so that it could happen—but……it had all been Kind Of A Lot. Even before going into Mirrorspace, everything about this had been Kind Of A Lot. Now that they were at the finish line, or at least just shy of reaching that point, everything Reiki had had to power through to get here felt like it was catching up to him, and hard.

Emotions swam furiously around his head, most of them contradicting each other on at least two counts. Questions and anxieties raged inside him, thrashing hard against his ribcage with each fluttering, erratic beat of his heart. What if it didn’t work. What if Ida could rescue Volterra but there really was something wrong with Reiki, or with his starseed, and she couldn’t help him after all. What if it did work, but everything stayed exactly the same. What if, on the other side, Kiyoshi Sakurazawa couldn’t find a new therapist because there was no way to talk around all of the magical girl shenanigans and get the help he needed without sounding like he was completely out of his mind in ways that weren’t actually true. What if Cersei didn’t remember him on the other side, the way she got so confused about him when he powered up.

Even less helpful than those fears, part of Reiki’s mind wanted to glom onto Radiohead lyrics that he knew all too well. But that part, he felt significantly less guilt about smothering with a pillow. “Creep” had a time and place where it would’ve been appropriate. Tonight, right here, was neither of those things.

The threat of any pain from the purification process felt more enticing than anything, a fact that Reiki knew he’d need to unpack later and already, he didn’t want to. Pain from an objective outside source sounded easier to deal with than the tempest roiling inside him right now. But it wouldn’t fix anything about that storm; he knew from experience. Third-party pain would end, sooner or later, and he’d be left to deal with the same emotions, the same problems, the same all that mess that had metaphysically beat the s**t out of him in the first place.

Dimly, Reiki sort of wished that he’d run into a Knight on his way over. Any Knight, as long as they’d had a signet ring and known who Faustite was, or whatever the rules were for making their signet rings work. Even if he didn’t like the choice Reiki was making—which Reiki honestly couldn’t begrudge him, all things considered—telling him that it was all finally happening now felt……somewhat less irresponsible? Than running off into the night? And somewhat less irresponsible than most of the other ways that Reiki felt about all of this? Then again, not running into Kaifeng or Pendour or somebody was probably for the best. Meant that Reiki couldn’t ruin everything by letting too much slip to someone he knew to be clever, vindictive, homicidally violent, and a dozen other things, thereby unwittingly letting Faustite know where to show up so he could interrupt this.

Plus, given Reiki’s luck, the Knight he’d run into might’ve been some aggro douchebag like that Neptune Squire he hadn’t yet decided to forgive for………whatever. Sighing heatedly, Reiki rubbed at the bridge of his nose and tried to banish all the thoughts that didn’t matter right now. Their input was appreciated, but he could deal with them later (or ideally never, in some cases).

Taking a deep breath, Reiki nodded and looked to Ida. “I’m ready,” he said, and squeezed Yuki’s shoulder one last time before slipping his hand free from Yuki’s hold. “Let’s go.”
PostPosted: Thu Apr 11, 2024 1:46 pm

Ida felt the warmth of Kerberos’ hand on her arm and the vibration of Illyria’s purr through her skin, sending their support wordlessly to her through their touch. She flashed a reassuring smile as she covered the senshi’s hand with her own. She could do this. She had to do this. These two depended on her, and she would break herself, if she had to, to set them free.

“Everyone needs to be touching. That thing in the subway was sort of a fluke with all the extra energy I had, so we need to be connected for the teleportation.” She said as she summoned her phone from subspace. Kerberos was already touching her and Illyria was safe where she lay across her shoulders. She offered her free hand, orchid glowing in her palm, to the other two. Thus secured, Ida pressed the button and let the power take her, the world about them blurring into a sense of motionless travel.

—--

When the world finally steadied about them, the darkness of D.C. in late winter was replaced with the gentle sunshine of the kind you find in spring. A soft breeze stirred about them to the rush of leaves and grasses, bringing with it the soft sound of hidden windchimes and the smell of a riot of flowers.

The group stood in a joyously chaotic garden, beaten dirt paths winding among beds filled with anything and everything that would grow there. There was enough order there to say it was well tended, but there was a relaxed sort of organization that seemed to embrace the way the plants wanted to grow, rather than forcing them into neatness. It could have been a garden on Earth behind some rural cottage, save for its great size and the wild splashes of colors that did not at all match what Earth plants would have produced. Tomatoes in their cages that shone a vibrant periwinkle, for example. And behind and around them, trees that loomed massive and towering, their tops dwarfing the tallest redwoods. All showed signs of ancient habitation with sweeping stairs coiling around their outsides, arching doors and windows cut into the sides to show interior spaces, hanging walkways connecting upper branches.

“Welcome to Ida.” It’s senshi said as she released her guests. She tilted her head back and glowing petals fell in a whirl around her as power suddenly exploded on inner senses, released now that they were finally in safety. The petals coalesced into sweeps of fabric and feathers as Ida’s fuku changed, growing into a long lavender dress that pooled at her feet. A drape settled over her arms as white wings unfurled behind her and in a moment, the magic cleared to reveal Ida in her regalia, jewelry around her neck and wrists and bare feet in the soil of her asteroid. All the tension had left her with their arrival, leaving her relaxed and smiling shyly.

“I’m sorry I didn’t get to bring you before, Muri, and while its not exactly the circumstance I’d have wanted, ideally, I’m glad you get to see Ida now.”

Although he took Ida’s hand as instructed, Reiki blinked bemusedly at her mention of the……subway? ……Oh, right. The battle with the Blight, wasn’t it?

Right. She, and the other Order senshi, and all of their Knights—they’d disappeared once the battle was over and the Blight had been ended.…… Reiki remembered being upset at the time, in a way that he’d known he couldn’t hold against anybody even before he’d heard from Fang and Kerberos what had happened. Of course it made sense that Ida had only taken White Moon folks with her. She had no way of knowing who they all were, or what it might have done, throwing a Chaos energy signature into their midst. Someone might’ve gotten triggered just by being around Reiki. Someone might’ve suspected sabotage or an attack.

Reiki had instead fallen in with Faustite. Gotten yanked away for an encounter that he’d only really told the whole, unexpurgated story of……to Yuki and Elsa. The latter of them had heard it during an onslaught of words where it had distinctly been one of the least important things getting mentioned.…… Telling Ida had never really occurred to him as an idea until now, trying to think of if he really needed to say anything about that night or not. As he nodded and took her hand, Reiki decided that he didn’t want to tell her. Ida was already doing so much for him and Volterra right now, and before, she’d only acted in the interest of creating the greatest good for the most possible people.

Everything that had happened that night in the basement of the Farnsworth.…… Reiki’s hurt and horror about knowing what his magic had done to Faustite.…… His guilt over using his magic on Faustite another time, when Faustite had snapped over being told off for acting like a d**k and tried to attack him and Tama.…… From a certain perspective, all of it could be traced back to Reiki getting left behind in the subway. But how would that have been fair, putting all of those things on Ida’s shoulders?

Reiki didn’t want Ida to blame herself over things that weren’t her fault.

Easy enough to put all that out of his mind, though, when they made it to her world.

“……’Terra,” Reiki said softly, awe in every syllable, “I don’t think we’re in Kansas anymore.”

Maybe it wasn’t an original reference (and part of Reiki fully expected for Volterra to get at least some degree of Exasperated with him), but he didn’t care. If ever there were an appropriate time to reference Dorothy Gale, Reiki knew in his heart that it was now.

Space would never cease to amaze him. Not even getting starseeded out here, wherever in the black Astraya was, could dull his enthusiasm for planets, and Wonders, and all the marvels of the Final Frontier. His reaction was more subdued than normal tonight—mostly silent, his face not too openly emotional—but even so, he looked around in starry-eyed reverence, drinking in the sight of the towering trees, the technicolor vegetation, the signs that people had once lived here.…… Each breath came in trembling and left Reiki feeling vulnerable. No harm would come to him or Volterra here, he knew that, but so much about Ida’s world threatened to overwhelm him right now.

“The circumstances…… I don’t care,” Reiki said, shaking his head, then looking at Ida and her Princess dress with the full back-wings. “I’m just glad to see this place at all.…… Everything’s so real, and vibrant.…… It’s so alive.……”

The “very much unlike Mirrorspace” went unspoken. It wasn’t the point, so why bother bringing it up? From what little he’d seen of Murikabushi-That-Was, thanks to the toys and vials that Mirrorspace had used in its attempts to seduce him into staying, Ida’s world was very different from what his own would be like, as well. But……it was so close, now. Freedom was so close.

Volterra… actually felt breathless as ne looked around in wonderment at the completely different planet under nis feet. The air felt almost cleaner, here. It almost felt like an unbearably wonderful fairytale setting. The trees, the purple tomatoes, the…. Entire atmosphere of it felt like something from a 1980s fantasy movie, with almost even that "fantasy fog" quality a lot of those movies had to make it seem so dreamlike. Even Volterra was moved by it. Hurriedly, ne checked to make sure nobody was looking and wiped at nis eyes. Ugh, stupid.

… And Muri's comment, even stupider. Ne rolled nis eyes and gently smacked Muri's upper arm with the back of nis hand.

"We weren't even in Kansas when we left, you mega-dork," ne said affectionately. Ne turned to Princess Ida—who fit the theme Volterra had crafted in nis head about the place, with the fancy getup— and gave an awkward smile. "Thank you, Ida, for bringing us both here."

Ida was beautiful.

Perhaps Kerberos was biased, given his affection for its Senshi, and for planets on the whole, but Ida was warm, and sunshiney, and inviting—so different than his world of eternal night, lit by glowing flora and fauna. But just as vibrant and alive, and full of so many colors and so much life.

“No, you aren’t,” Kerberos laughed, softly. “Your world is so lovely, Ida. Just like its Senshi.” And she really was beautiful, so resplendent with her wings.

But this wasn’t the part he was here for. So while he stayed by Ida’s side, ready to provide more energy if she needed, he did move just a bit to give her space to do her work.
